They are great people and deserve so much more than most of the bands out there for they have real talent. When I was 9, just a few months after my dad died I got to go backstage and meet them. They asked what my favorite song of theirs was and I said "the song that you say rabbit in." (Live and Die) and they actually changed a song they were going to play at the concert so they could sing "Live and Die" at the concert. After I left backstage to watch the concert, they dedicated the song to me. I will forever remember and I love these guys so much!!

My mom was in the hospital, and she came home for a weekend. I showed her this song, she loved it, and about three weeks later she died on Christmas night. I'm fifteen, and this song makes me sob. It's hard to be in high school and be that "tough guy" who plays sports. I go on Twitter and people complain about their parents. If they only knew...

Several years ago my boyfriend saw The Avett Brothers at Firefly. He innocently came to me and said, "You MUST hear this band." And showed me this video. Me, who adores the banjo, this type of music, and men who look like this.
Clearly, he was not thinking ahead. My obsession cannot be stopped. He created a monster.

I grew up hearing this song in the car, and singing along with my mom when it was just us. It’s been about five years since we’ve done that, but every now and then I remember the lyrics and search them up trying to recall the tune. The minute I found it today, I put it on my playlist so I never forget again. I may be 15 but I honestly think this is one thing that will stick with me somewhere in my memory my whole life. And no I’m definitely not crying hearing it for the first time in a while why would you think that. :,)

Can't describe it, but nobody could sound more like Cabarrus county than these guys. My daughter had lunch every day with her school librarian, come to find out, she was the wife of their manager. The way they can weave the hard edged working class country backround they came from with those almost Beatle-esk melodies and harmonies is amazing. Funny how a band can sound so local, and still appeal to a much larger audience. Spend a little time in Cabarrus, work as a welder, brickmason or carpenter. You hear one of their songs, it's almost speaking to you.

    • @sseal6088
      @sseal6088 11 месяцев назад

I agree, I love the local North Carolinian culture and all these dang yankees keep moving down here(semi-ironic) causing some issues. My mom grew up in Cabarrus county and my grandparents still live there. Even though I'm young, I have fond memories of listening to this music on the way to family gatherings and Myrtle beach.

    LYRICS
All it'll take is just one moment and
You can say goodbye to how we had it planned
Fear like a habit, run like a rabbit, out and away
Through the screen door to the unknown
And I want to love you and more
I want to find you and more
Where do you reside when you hide?
    How can I find ya?
'Cause I want to send you and more
I want to tempt you and more
Can you tell that I am alive?
    Let me prove it
You and I, we're the same
Live and die, we're the same
Hear my voice, know my name
You and I, we're the same
    Live like a pharaoh
    Sing like a sparrow anyway
Even if there is no land or love in sight
We bloom like roses, lead like Moses, out and away
Through the bitter crowd to the daylight
And I want to love you and more
I want to find you and more
Can you tell that I am alive?
Let me prove it to ya
You and I, we're the same
Live and die, we're the same
    You rejoice, I complain
But you and I, we're the same
Live and die, we're the same
You and I, we're the same
Hear my voice, know my name
You and I, we're the same
I want to love you and more
I want to find you and more
Where do you reside when you hide?
    How can I find ya?
'Cause I wanna save you and more
I wanna tempt you and more
Can you tell that I am alive?
    Let me prove it
You and I, we're the same
Live and die, we're the same
    You rejoice, I complain
But you and I, we're the same
Live and die, we're the same
You and I, we're the same
Hear my voice, know my name
    You and I
    You and I

This song reminds me of when my grandad died a couple years back, I was riding in my dad's car back from my grandad's house, the day he died, we went to his house because we wanted to stay with him for the last moments of his life. So, on the way back, in my dad's car, we were listening to "Live and Die", and I actually teared up a little bit. That's how I know this song. In fact, that's how I know the Avett Brothers. The Avett Brothers will forever be my and my dad's favorite band. That's also why this song will always be my first favorite song by the Avett Brothers, no, of all time.

SavagesInMyTown This band has been at it since 2000, long before Mumford hit it big. They are born and bred independent and were only picked up by a major label three years ago, and had mainstream success long before that. The Avett Brothers are a completely separate entity, with no influence from Mumford and Sons. If anything, their music and stage performances show that Mumford and Sons may be influenced by TAB. So, fortunately, you are wrong. I'm very proud to say that I grew up minutes from these guys and that the culture around here is what shaped them, even in their music today, not major labels such as Universal or Mumford and Sons.

i grew up on these people. Thank you for giving me a whole childhood of good music. Pop music will always be seen as better, but they don't know how good and special this stuff is. Keep doing well and give new generations their childhoods.

No matter how often I play this song it's like hearing it for the very first time. Very very few songs uplift me like this one does. Wonderful.
PS Jacob the drummer is the spitting image of my son, Matt - also a drummer. Another reason to love this song!

@@pamvandusen4433 It was a spiritual experience when I saw them live the first time in Huntington, West Virginia. I stood about 6 feet from the stage and apron and I was completely enthralled and transported. I have seen them live two more times and though they have been great all three times, the intimacy of the first venue kind of ruined me for bigger ones. I went to their NYE concert in NC and saw them following a Reds game in Cincinnati. That was over a year ago and I definitely overdue for a live show ! 😁

When I heard benjo at the beginning, I was feeling like Lake, when she was in car with Will. At once I understood, what is Colleen Hoover talking about in Slammed. That life and death are inseperable. That living means dying, but there's always happiness in life. I cried like a little girl. I swear, I'll never be the same again after reading Slammed and listening to Avett brothers.

One of their best, and you gotta love the reversal of the film at 0:14 that makes it look like Scott is playing left handed! Strange.
