BobBlast 210 - "Great Presentation without Framing."

  • Welcome back to another BobBlast!
    This short video lesson shows what I do with my 6” x 9” small paper paintings… my warm-ups and practice pieces. I sell them at art fairs, in galleries and museum gift shops and also online. But how?
    I don’t frame them. I (and you) and not in the framing business. I want to make a professional presentation without the added cost of a frame..
    I mat and bag each one - Ready to go in the bins of a festival, open studio, gallery or museum shop. This is what you need…
    •First of all, standardize your paper sizes.
    •Secondly, make a “mock up” paper mat, according to available, standard frame sizes, which is easier for your customer.
    •Third point to remember after you have painted those standard universal-sized paintings… when finished, you’re ready to package and present them in a mat, a back board and a crystal clear bag. Ready to go!
    •And the final point before the painting flies out the door - photograph the painting and put it in inventory. Once it’s gone, you’re not going to get another chance!
    Cha Ching!
    Thank you for your interest, questions, comments and support!
    To view more of my favorite art materials, go to my website and click on my “Studio Resource List” - you can download it as a PDF.
    Thanks again for watching and telling your friends! All my BobBlasts are archived on my website and my RUclips Channel. Fabulous way to present for galleries, art shops, and summer markets which I'm preparing for. I remembered this technique after spending a bundle on shrink wrapping some paintings for a pop-up Xmas market, last December. Lesson in economy of resources using a mat and crystal sleeve. Now I'll look into the info sticker on the back and making sure I add the name, my signature, and date on the actual painting AND the back piece. Thanks very much, Bob, for all your wonderful info for success with my art. :)

    Couple of things if may:
    1-never mount on the window mat, just on the mat back.
    2- you need to hinge the window mat and mat back and not to leave it loose like you did even if you are slipping them in the preservative plastic bag, they still can move on top of each other and SCUFF your art work. extra couple of minutes where you hinge the mat window to the mat back and support the two with archival acid free double sided taped you are good to go.

    I’m determined to learn how to measure and complete. My watercolors/mix medias turned out to be 6x8’s for the paper I broke down from larger sheets measuring and fractions really stupefy me 🤦🏻‍♀️ I am not sure why my brain doesn’t understand. But I am determined.

    • @RobertBurridge
      @RobertBurridge 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks - I hear you! First of all, decide on what you want the overall size to be for your presentation mat. Make sure the size you select will fit a standard-sized frame. That part is very important. THEN - decide how big you want the opening of the mat to be. You want your watercolor paper to be SLIGHTLY larger than the opening. I initially chose the 6.5x9.5 inches for my paper because I could get quite a few paintings out of a full sheet of watercolor paper.
      Hope this helps!

  • @twohandsandaradio
    @twohandsandaradio 3 месяца назад

    So if someone buys it and takes it out of the plastic it all falls apart? I make mine more permanent so people couldn't take it apart or just have it fall apart like these.

    • @RobertBurridgeBobBlast
      @RobertBurridgeBobBlast  3 месяца назад

      The artwork does not fall apart - there is a hinge of acidfree tape on the back of the mat - makes it easier for the framer to work with it. Thank you for your comment.

  • @lucyb.5131
    @lucyb.5131 6 лет назад +1

    This is wonderful! I'm so glad I found this video. Question -- why don't you tape together both front and back matboards? That's something I've been considering but not sure what to do. Thanks!

    • @ReviewsAndMore9
      @ReviewsAndMore9 6 лет назад +1

      Once framed, the two matboards plus painting will be thick enough to be held in place by the frame, so taping them isn't necessary. It also makes it easier to remove the painting if one chooses.

      Thanks for your message. I use a "piano hinge" with acid-free framers tape to attach the top of the painting to the top mat. The bottom board is not attached. I slip the board and mat into a Crystal Clear bag. Hope this helps.

      This is the statement he puts on the back of his work: "This is an original painting created with professional conservation quality art materials, protected under the copyright laws and may only be reproduced with permission in writing from the artist." Then he adds the copyright symbol and his name and contact information. (Just know that your work is automatically copyrighted the moment you create it.)
