The 90s was a different era. You had to be old enough to understand why Desree wasnt considered "black" enough. From about '92 to the mid 2000s was the Hip Hop Soul era where artists like Mary J, Aaliyah, TLC etc were mainly singing r&b over hip hop tracks. It was extremely popular so if you didn't have that urban sound, you were considered pop. Only a few black artists were successful in that lane, like Seal and Sade. I remember the case with her and Beyonce more accurately. Beyonce DID NOT steal from her, she got permission from Desiree. The only stipulation was that Beyonce could not change any of the words from the song, and she didn't adhere to that. Beyonce changed some of the words which in turn gave her writing credits, which is why Desiree successfully sued her.

"You gotta be" was played at my high school graduation. I had no idea she had to deal with legal issues with Beyonce and Janet Jackson. What a true David vs Goliath story!
Her I Ain’t Moving album was the first I ever owned. I love every single track on that album and I still listen to them. I bought the Romeo + Juliette soundtrack because of her song on it. I have no idea how Beyoncé got away with blatantly ripping off her I’m kissing you. How hard is it to just ask a person to use their work?
it might have more to do with her daddy the manager ,i have a feeling her management gives her the songs without checking the small print .Her father was a salesman ,not having worked in the music industry at all right? but he still took 25% of whatever deals went through him
I don't know why she is called Queen bey?? She's more like insecure bey😢😢😢 Desiree she's so talented she doesn't need Jay-Z 😂😂😂😂
She’s called Queen Bey because she is the GOAT. All Des’ree had to do was bow down and kiss the mfn ring. After doing that, she coulda had a discussion about the alleged stolen material 🤷♀️.But since she charged at Bey like an enraged buffalo, she got put down by the Queen 😤
@justineebourgeois3420
You're coming from a place of emotion,!! She's overrated she doesn't write her own songs.. Insecure enough to lie about writing 🎵🎶 Spare me the emotion.. we shouldn't Bow down to any human. Don't confuse the human with God..
@@miaking5973 Desi’ree came at the queen expecting no repercussions. She shoulda did her research and seen what happens to those who oppose (ie. Keri Hilson). Desi’ree shoulda got the memo 🤷♀️
@@justineebourgeois3420beyonce worships satan , that is why she is famous, do your research before you comment
@@justineebourgeois3420uhaaaaa she can't be "the GOAT" if she's stolen the majority of her career 🙄
I like Desiree's music!! She has a lovely voice
Hello Natasha, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
Omg!😮 I love Desiree!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😊 I just loved her work!.. I hope Beyonce 🙏🏾 isn't doing these type of things but so many female artists/woman who have worked for her are speaking out about how she has treated them
Some, like Aaliyah, didn't live to tell.
@@lindam4006 so what exactly did Beyoncé did to Aaliyah that you witnessed as an eye witness not based on whatever people said?
If you think about it in a song Jay Z made a long time ago He and Beyonce are the modern day Bonnie and Clyde and the song was sampled from Tupac song me and my girlfriend I wonder did Tupac receive credit was deceased already 🤔
It's possible that a hidden hand has taken her out of the music industry, I see all the evil that they do against the musical work of Jennifer Hudson, she has a wonderful voice but her songs are not successful because the advertising machine that controls the radios and other media, they decide who should succeed. With all my heart I hope Desiree returns to make her music, whoever is born with talent must use her talent.
Her Music is very inspiring And positive. The world needs more of that!
You gotta be encouragede too. Going thru a worped child hood it always hit me whwn rhe li e came "you gotta be tough, you gotta be strongerrrr" then "u gotta stick together" and love will save the day.
Her and Sade can do a Verzuz if they're still doing those things.
Sade is still doing music. She decide to do less music because of her kids. Sade is known for waiting least 5 to 15 years for each record.
You're kidding right she has a nice voice but she can not hang with Sade.
@@thomas-ol3ni i also thing sade and Toni braxton are other Dimension vocally. And they dont need any Hits anymore
I truly hope she releases new material; she is so talented. I listen to her music often. It brings me solace.
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser, You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger. I didn't know her till I googled her and every time the song comes on the radio I feel super strong and happy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love her songs! Reminds me of my childhood.
Des'ree is awesome. I love her Music
Hello Dana, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I am SO TIRED of hearing these SAD stories about people in the music business. Des'ree's mom was RIGHT: She should have become a lawyer. This is not to disregard Des'ree's talent, but the music business is VICIOUS! When will we learn? Success in the music biz is not solely based on talent.
We sung “You gotta be” for graduation from 4th & 8th grade lol I love that song
Wtf, I didn't even finish the video yet, but I gotta say that I love those verses of "Life". How can somebody say it's bad lyrics? It's a song about finding happiness in the little things, so precious.
Why is beyonce crowned the Queen?
With J's guidance, he and she Take Others out of the Game.
My thought exactly…she certainly not the only QUEEN in this music game 4sure
Cause she worships the devil , do your research before you comment
Because....OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! 😂
She had good taste, great work ethic, overall entertaining🤷🏽♀️not even taking up for her, im not longer a fan but that’s what is was for me.
What About jlo stole Ashanti career smh!!
Career? Jlo came out first than her. And she wrote a song for her which she makes alot of money from. So it's Jlo who helped Ashanti.
@@omnip3469 yeah, JLo came out in 1999 I think. Ashanti came out a bit later
@@omnip3469Not quite. J-Lo actually lifted Ashanti's vocals, not just the song. She stole a so g from Mariah which is why Mariah doesn't know her to this day.😂
I love her "Silent Hero" song so much. It was beautifully placed in a scene of Spike Lee's "Clockers" movie.
Supernatural is a beautiful album... Lifts your mood and makes you happy...
My siblings and I love her. Used to listen to her in Senegal back in the 90s.
I loved Desree in the beginning and love her now. What a talent and beautiful voice
If Drake said that line y’all would of said it was hot 🥵 3:40
You know it ...
Des’rea’s song “You gotta be” is such a great song! It’s a real anthem to live your life by!
I think there is place for Des’ree in our music industry now more than ever. I loved her and often wonder why she wasn’t a break out artist, but I also understand what they call limitations were her boundaries.
Bey time is coming the New Millennium step on set..
I would love to hear more great music from Des'ree but this late in her career at 55 it will be difficult. One of my other favorite Des'ree songs you did not mention is "Crazy Maze". I love that song!!! Crazy Maze is so poetic with it's lyrics.
Its sad tho. Shes ended up being a typical 1 hit wonder in the 90's a period where many unknown artist could reach popularity with 1 or 2 hits. Then after that they couldn't top their best song and their careers would crumble instantly.
She wasn’t a one hit wonder in the UK.
Good episode i was wondering about this lady
Yes yes go for it Desirey
Just listened to this lady this morning, Gotta be strong, gotta be wise etc. Very nice song, compared to what we are fed these days, then again im old & record sales dont win with people of my age.
The music industry is brutal.
She is human - a person of good character ,whom has been a victim of injustice. She should do more music if she wants to go so . She doesn't have to be No.1 - just give us joy.
I love her voice and music
She has a beautiful uplifting voice as if her voice has wings, keep singing, you are very talented that cannot be denied. You are in a better situation ... so soar like an 🦅 eagle.
Life was a beautiful song. 🎵
She was beautiful, I hope 🙏 ❤ comes back 😢 God bless
she was really ahead of her time
Ur voice is beautiful and real Desiree
The Music 🎵 Industry is DARK AF ‼️‼️‼️
Hello Sabrina, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I love Des'ree and she is GORGEOUS!! Come back, Des'ree, we need your music! How dare Beyonce and Janet steal from Des'ree!!
Music world is the ghetto. Stay where ya at gurl.
I love her music, I still listen to her songs 25 years later 😉
I remember when Beyonce released Bday with Kissing you and I bought the CD the day it came out, it was removed off the shelves a week later because she had stolen Desree's song. Desree;s version was much better
Hello Pretty, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
By far better than today industry offers
I think Desiree´ is a true artist & she should produce as she is inclined and can realistically expect returns on her investment. The entertainment industry is facing exposure of its insane corruption. So I hope Desiree won't let those issues impede her.
I still listen to Desiree songs ~ Life and What’s Your Sign
her music has Great vibes❤
Desiree music 🎶 is so timeless…Sadly being black balled by the Carters seems like severe complaints coming from multiple artists…Everyone can’t be lying on them…
Exactly and I don't kno if you remember in a song Jay Z referred to him and Beyonce as the modern day Bonnie and Clyde and that song was sampled from Tupac me an my girlfriend I wonder if Tupac got the credit who was already deceased 🤔

Please make a comeback beautiful! Gotta be cool, you gotta be stronger, you gotta be wiser! Your always in my heart. Much LoveX
Hello Florea, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
This is why Beyonce does not do interviews anymore. She's scandalous and the behive just don't wanna believe it.
Nice, you should do Alana Davis next, she's an underrated talent.
Seems like a lot of people where trying to rip her off. Very disappointed in the artist that snatched her work without compensation. Totally shocked and disappointed in them. It was as if her talent and magic was their’s for the taking. So proud she fought back, and WON! She’s doing well in the world and remains undefeated. Yes, she should keep singing, forever! Look how far she got without a nepo-baby connection and without booty shaking her way to the top! That’s real Black Girl Magic! 🔥🥷🏿
Yikes i didn't know she was from the UK like Me🇬🇧 love her songs
I didn't know either. I'm just finding also a group, Five Star, are from the U.K. too. Found out from another RUclips video recently.
She was out there in the 1990s, so unless you are an old bugger like me, You probably wouldn’t know any of her songs x
