I have been fishing since I was 8 years old (am now 42😩). I love this channel so much. Fishing doesn’t have to be so serious and it’s about getting out with your mates or on your own and enjoying it! You should build some structures around the peg underneath/in the water to give roaches and pikes a place to hide aswell as some lily pads and reeds.. I think you’ll be able to catch some in the near future! Greetings from Amsterdam

I have a canal 5 minutes walk from home. Fished it with extreme prebaiting daily for over 2 years. What I learnt, you have no need to rake at all. Jut bait the area, ducks, swans, the fish themselves, clear your spots completely in time. They start to recognise spots as regular feeding larders.
As encouragement how does this grab you, my weedy canal eventually produced amazing golden rud with the reddest fins, bream to 8 1/2lb, tench to 6lb, perch I “grew on” with regular feeding to an amazing 4lb, there proved to be 16 carp , most low doubles, but one a truly amazing rare 31 1/2lb immaculate common, numerous pike averaging 7lb, to around 15lb.paradise on my doorstep, free fishing, so weedy and reedy hardly anyone knew what it contained and not many fished it either. The stock was wiped out when “caring” wildlife lovers released a family of 3 Otters on the stretch, then canal management “mistakes” saw the section drying completely during the drought a couple of years back killing remaining fry. Without fish to colour the water the weed and reeds have taken over clogging it completely in some places in just a few years since the main fish losses. There will be flooding eventually.
These idiots don’t realise the benefit of a fish filled water in limiting weed growth and keeping the flow going without the need for human intervention.
Heartbroken to go from canal heaven to a mosquito filled reedy ditch because of human stupidity and criminally negligent canal management.😢

If you put aeration in the canal even if it's just behind your home will make a huge difference and the more air the better it will help the water clarity also!

To detour the Swans when your ground baiting. Throw bread in floating on the surface they will follow it down flow. Then quietly bait up .Swans have good hearing .

I saw mention of a Road Trip pike fishing fest and I had some fun in Sweden last year hooking in to some veritable crocodiles without legs! we went on a camping trip in open canoes to Axeltorp, hired canoes and camping rights on the islands of Lake Bromola from Wetlandi and had three days of absolute bliss. one for consideration of you find yourself in Sweden!

Use to fish that part of the canal when i was a kid had some lovely fish from there massive tench 20lb carp and only a few pike and 1 turtle

Keep going man, the work on the lock is a setback but try and speak the canal and river trust and get them to let you know about any work due to be done in future. Especially if you are going to stock the water. I've loved every moment of this series and can't wait to see what happens next 😊.

Got a swim behind my house. I buy bulk corn pellets and regular pellets for keeping the spot baited up. €100 goes a long way.

Squeaker Mix and Layer's Mash ideal heavy ground baits. And best of all it's dirt cheap for sacks full. Just boil or soak the squeaker Mix and molasses syrup for a few weeks in a Wheely bin. Nail some chicken wire to decking to stop you from slipping on it.😮
