It's great to see the "name" is still around. True Chicagoans know that the original stores were on 83rd and Cottage Grove. True Chicagoans also know that it was originally a black-owned family business. It's interesting to see how so many will capitalize on what someone did before them. Even more interesting to see how the media (via this TV spot) portrays this establishment as the 'be all to end all'. I grew up eating Leon's and lived nearby. I don't ever remember seeing any of the guys in this clip on Cottage Grove or 75th Street.
Papa Geoerge you're exactly right. How dare they direspect like that. When did Archer ave. become part of the southside? Personally I used to go to G and B bbq on 103rd. I remember the trophy case when you walked in displaying how many times they whipped the big bbq establishments ass at the old school taste of chicago ! It's all about the Jamaican jerk chicken now though . Rasta Fari ! Respect to the old school chi-town hustlers .
AMEN!!! 86th and Houston! When we used to go on vacation, we'd say we when to the Islands... Stoney Island, Blue Island and Rock Island!!! LMAO Is Moo and Oink still in business? Loved that place!
Their bbq is great. I used to go the s. side locations at 83rd and Cottage, and 59th and Racine, but those are gone. Lem's on 75th east of the ryan is excellent too. Most of the best ribs are served through bulletproof glass.
AMEN Brother!!! Baby Dolls on 110th and Halsted, can't remember, but 79th and Asland... Fuck... just about anyplace on the Southside!!! Soutside is da right side! Fenger and CVS ruled. LMAO Go Sox!!!
haha hate is a strong word. I'm Muslim and indifferent to this place. fyi pork is forbidden for Jews(easy to find the verse) and Christians as well. Leviticus 11:7-8 ESV " And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you." not even allowed to touch dead pigs, let alone eat
@@parlaykilla it's not trash, it's your visual bias about something you didn't know was happening already since 1979. These are the same people. In the summers of 92 and 93 I would go every day with my Dad to help out at 83rd and 79th, Leon would give me $10 each time he saw me, great man. I made several batches of sauce by myself, you likely had some 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. That's what's funny about comments like yours.

What is it with these Chicago joints and DROWNING there meat in sauce? Without even asking the customer.. just dumping and assuming they want it that way? I'll be heading up that way from Texas this Christmas..and every place I see online drowns there meat with sauce.. I guess I'll have to request it without sauce ahead of time. Oh.. And stainless steel smokers.. really?
Oh Lord the sauce is the best part when they pour it on the fries it makes my mouth water!
Mi amor

Yes, you're right. They also had the biggest chicken wings on 83rd Cottage.

Papa George Chronicles I agree. I remember the one on Cottage Grove. They also had the longest line at “Taste of Chicago.”

Fake leons
Fake Leon's? The owner worked for original Leon's, 83rd and 79th, processing all the meat and making all the sauce from 1979 to 1995 🤣🤣🤣. You people.

Yeah, we know how to do it right! Stay in Texas and eat your meat, the rest of the world knows how to flavor it.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 Eric and boby
Dont knock it till you try it young buck
How somebody from another bbq region gonna complain about another city's bbq style? Do you complain about the sauce on your big mac?
You can request sauce on the side too
The sauce is wayyyyy too sweet. It tastes like i'm eating dessert rather than dinner.
