Uncle John (Mack Sevier) passed away in June 2015. There are 2 bbq joints that carry his recipe & bbq sauce - Uncle Johns near 83rd & Cottage Grove and Uncle J's on 47th St. I haven't tried Uncle J's on 47th but Uncle Johns on Cottage Grove is VERY good. RIP Uncle John.
83rd & Cottage carry the name but not the taste -- they don't use a wood-burning aquarium. The REAL deal is Uncle J's at 47th and Vincennes. Follow the smoke.

Not minimizing the fantastic eating establishments in Chicago because they have incredible food, but Texas Barbecue is top notch. Austin, Dallas and Houston, Texas is memorable and highly recommended. You will tell Mama, Daddy, Sally, Joseph, Jacob, Kevin, Reba, Michelle and Hasan about the experience. LOL!!!!!!

I used to love Uncle Johns. His Q was off the chain & reminded of those old school BBQ spots back in the late ‘60’s & early ‘70’s. Those other spots that has his name pales in comparison to his quality. R.I.P.
83rd & Cottage Grove, just like Ponce Perez said, where Leon's BBQ used to be. Some say the 83rd street BBQ is not that good, I DISAGREE, the ribs, links & chicken are just as good if not better. The restaurant is much, much bigger too. It's still carry-out ONLY but you can get almost 20-25 people inside (though that would make it a little crowded). No need to stand outside when the weather is bad. A much better location, IMHO. A small off-street parking is available but be warned that Cottage Grove can be busy during rush hour time.
you need to try( big O's bbq) its located in valera texas little town but his bbq its really good special day for ribs on fridays only..if you pass by you will.see it a small smoker out side..jaja..
