- Let's take a look at the Fallen Angels photoshoot from ANTM...where Tyra basically blames the models for the bad photos...even tho the sky was blown out BUT THATS NONE OF MY BUSINESS

What I never understood about the criticism on ANTM (and what I now as an adult am able to see as purposeful gaslighting) is that the photographer, set designer, stylist, and virtually everyone on the set is never to blame for anything. It is always the model's fault. And in reality, a lot of the crappy shoots we remember are a result of very poor planning and performance from the set crew and photographer. Even the most skilled model cannot make gold out of crap. 🤷🏻♂️
Aa
But it's super easy to blame inexperienced young girls. What do they know. Give's you drama for the show, boom! Mission accomplished.
So true. And on top of that, they put these women through hell and then have the audacity to shame them for being 'difficult' when they set boundaries and stand up for themselves.
Well said
@@lacey892 Thanks to D'Amato calling out.
Nigel asking the model, "Have you ever been this physical with a boy before?" was so inappropriate. This show needs an HR department so many of these people can be reported.
the black face might be an issue too in other episodes 😂
nah, HR departments are the cancer of society
Yeah, my eyebrows immediately went up.
I’ll take sexual harassment for $100.
I can't believe what whiny little babies 🍼 WOMEN have turned into, I'm so glad I came from the generation where if we thought to ourselves Hmm,🤔 Was that inappropriate to me? and if so we would just open our mouths and say something to HR or the UR. GROW UP 👊👊💪🤨
Fatima was one of the worst. Iirc it was Fatima who had been through female "circumcision" and was traumatized. And they made her be like posing intimately with a male model. Disgusting. She was afraid and uncomfortable.
Ironic that Nigel tried to intimidate them by saying ''one of you is going to be Vogue Italia'' just after the photographer had slated Lexie saying she should'nt model, but she ended up getting featured in Vogue Italia a few years later without the help of the show so I don't think the judges really had any idea of the girls potential. :P
Yes! There have been many former ANTM models who were booted off the show but then went on to have a relatively successful modeling career on their own, because ANTM's over produced, over the top photo shoots often don't show a model's true potential. Let's be honest, the show was first and foremost a reality tv show focused on the drama, the modeling was far less important.
Yeah that she male judge what a dinosaur
Uuuh that's so satisfying. I hope she subtly rubbed in their jugemental bully incompetent faces.
That's amazing!
Good for her. I am glad she had a career outside the show.
The fact that test shots were even an OPTION to choose for “best picture” is not only embarrassing for the model but also the photographer. I’d be pissed.
Some of these probably were test shots. Why are they asking the models to pose for test shots?
"The only connection what would be possible is wifi at this point". Jessica's roasts are getting better and better
She’s hilarious 🤣. I love the dryness - my fav type of humor👏
@@The_Salty_Siren Ikr, 😂😂😂
She’s so funny. Like imagine going out for drinks with her, how much fun would she be?
Except back in that day WiFi connections were basically non existent 😅😅😅
🤣🤣🤣💯
The audacity of these girls not mastering the art of acrobatics within 5 minutes.
How dare they not know how to suspend themselves in mid-air on their first try.
Right
😂😂😂😂
This made my day
And model at the same time. How dare they? Outrageous 😅😅
I am NOT convinced she was hitting on him and trying to start something. Remember these women have been cut off from friends and family for months. Any connection to home, especially someone who understands the show, would make one of the models giddy with joy. Especially when the women haven’t been able to talk to many other people besides the other women in the house. We know the producers and editors can spin footage and words to create a false narrative.
Question - didn’t Lenox tell us the photographers pose them? I’m starting to get confused on how much control the models have on their poses.
Yeah, she got excited he was on a sports team at her school and she actually knew who he was. It sounded more like she wanted to have a friend who had something in common with her.
I remember Lenox saying that as well! It's so confusing, they are involved in the poses but then the models get criticized for it? 🤔
Absolutely 100% agree with this.
I agree. If he had been a woman, they would see their interaction as two happy people who know each other and haven't seen each other in a long time. And some people are naturally more flirtatious in their interactions like I am Kasey lmao she's just bubbly
The way she was talking to him was almost as if she was reciting lines given to her, like a bad actor. They fed her that stuff to do. Producers can get people to do some crazy stuff, & even this was pretty tame
I'm actually kinda mad cause the whole "fallen angel" concept was super cool but they did it the worst way possible. The makeup was weird, the background gave nothing and the editing was kinda boring. The photographer could have done something really good and impressive but everything was so flat, and it was not because of the models
exactly what i was thinking. not a single thing in the set gave angels to any degree... some of those girls didnt even have feathers
Agreed... *sighs * how sad
Right like Jay got wings and they got Boa eyebrows and hair????
The clothes were horrible too I’m sorry but they didn’t even check the weather forecast before the shoot to see if it was going to be cloudy
Lmao and there’s people standing in the background of the pics🤣🤣 like I can see random people making sandcastles in the background
"She should not model" - she say after only seeing her in this one, technically demanding shoot with harnesses and literal flying in the air. She have never seen her on the runway, in beauty shoots, commercials etc so who is she to judge?
Just the clothing was such a mess. Like you're gonna have the girls portray angels, floating in the sky, and you put them in effing leggings!? The missed opportunity to put them in flowy gowns and trains is real here.
Exactly! What happened to high fashion? Not here.
Yes, thank you! Certainly didn't help with the critique that half of them looked like dancers. Half the girls seemed to be DRESSED like dancers. And the only thing particularly 'fallen angel' about the styling was the black feathers which looked awkward and cheap. Add to that the blue sky and the beach, and this photoshoot failed to communicate the theme on just about every level. The models were easily the best part, as at least some of the poses were kind of interesting.
And it was such a cool theme too.
How was she supposed to look fearless with literal feather eyebrows 🤦🏼♀️😩
As someone who used to model, I definitely agree about the defeatist photographer attitude. I was focusing more on the poses for one shoot and the photog said "It seems like you don't even want to be here". LOL And I was honestly really enjoying myself. Turns out he was mad that I wasn't connecting with him. I didn't work with that one again. I actually worked with a lady photog twice because she was so constructive.
Same girl. I had a similar experience with a photographer, we were doing a night shoot so I was less chatty than normal but doing my best. He said in front of everyone, including the client 'you clearly don't want to be here' and I was so shocked and upset by that as I was fine! More than happy to be there, working and making money! You're so right about them getting annoyed because you don't connect with them, at the time I was about 19 and he must have been in his 30's. Creep.
@@danifacee Sorry to hear you had that experience. It's so unprofessional when they make statements like that. You're there to work!
They said the girls did good in the shoot but then said they were bas in the judging. I'm so mad about that.
@@cleosworld9096 Yeah it's so mean. :(
@@sarakjeldsen769 Thank you, sorry to hear about your experience too. That photographer would not get away with that now, I would DEFINITELY have something to say. They get away with it when girls are young and new to the industry. And yes, I agree, we are there to work and not be the entertainment!
"Is that what you do when you're seductive?" -Yes ma'am, I rise to the ceiling of my bedroom dangling from 2 wires.
Touché
Tyra would have a major freak out at being called "ma'am"
So we don't know how to connect the dots, huh? The continuous complaints about all the models having "dancer" poses, but like they are in a harness and then told to look graceful. For balancing purposes, the majority of people dangling in the sky on strings would probably maneuver into those positions to help hold their balance enough to be photographed. If every model is doing it, it is more likely your setup than them "copying each other". If every student fails on a test, it's your test that's the problem, not the students. Practicing in the harness and having someone show them how to move in it would have solved that, but that would require a show that actually cares about modelling and not one that just wants to make fun of people for ratings.
You hit it on the nail!
Tyra used to overreact so much. Tbh that picture isn't that bad, plus it's not always the model's fault if there's a bad picture!! Plus looking back at this after nigel admitted that Tyra picks bad pictures of some models to make judging easier just shows that she probably picked a bad picture, circulated drama and ended up blaming it on the model to not come off as the bad guy
They said in the shoot they said good but in judging the photos were bad. Perfect example.
Tyra's a witch.cxxx.
I always wondered why they were not allowed to pick the picture to use or get for their portfolio
So, I was expecting beautiful black wings Photoshopped onto all the girls. I kept adding them in my head and they would have make the pictures waaaay better
Same! I was so disappointed when I saw the finished results. It barely had anything to do with the models though.
Wait, what? They don't? I haven't finished the video yet and I was fully expecting wings on the final pics :(
Then they actually had to care about the photos and not just waiting for the show to pay them big
Well, of course they gave Ann wings, as it was important that she look the best, since The Powers That Be wanted her to go far whether she deserved it or not.
@@loreleiandrews8989 To be fair, the wings still looked pretty mediocre. Really, all of the feathers felt more like community theatre than high fashion. You'll see better looking wings at an anime convention. How frustrating.
At this point, Jess could make her own model show with some of the models that were on ANTM. I’d totally pay to watch haha!
I would too, because Jess would actually want to do a good job, which means she'd help the models.
@@sweariefaerie9621 Yes!! After seeing episodes by episodes how shitty they treated them… I mean we all knew, but some of us didn’t know the extent. These videos are shocking to me.
I would too!
I really do think Jess will be great mentor and creative director and also shield for the models when the judges or other cast (non-model) talk nonsense and inappropriate things to the models
She has talked with some models that were on the show, it would be awesome to ser them all work together. I picture the professional models being the judges of the competition, an maybe being on set to do a demonstration of the concept they are trying to shoot. Jess world obviously be the photographer/leader of the show.
I wonder if they wanted to offend Jane by saying they didn't think she knew what 'scorned' meant; Jane literally was a student and athlete at Princeton.
This photographer was RUDE as HELL. Her comments come from a mean place as opposed to constructive criticism
Also RIP Andre Leon Talley
When you said Rip Talley I was like what you talking about I didn’t hear he died
And this photographer wasn’t rude at all
@@caseydominick7806 Yeah pain.
@@caseydominick7806 u her gf??
Yeah she looked like a man too
Tyra: you didn’t go through because you, a blonde, can’t pull off being a brunette....
Sara: but you made me brunette...
Tyra: it’s a mystery why you couldn’t do this....
Sara: the photos were blown out!
Tyra: (swishes hands in front of her) a mystery!
Jessica is so right about not just being thrown into those situations. I've modelled for years and was never comfortable working closely with male models when I was really young and my agent understood that and I never had to. In other news, RIP Andre Leon Talley.
Sorry to horror stories like that.
Oh damn, I didn't know he died. And I didn't know he was 6'6"!
Amen, babe! xoxoxoxoxo
R.I.P. to Andre! 🙏
Does anyone else think the PHOTOGRAPHER on this shoot was the one that was truly disastrous and had everyone blast her? Seriously I want an America's Next Top photographer where we can dismantle all the different photographers seen on this show over the years. Not many of them were that impressive..... All of the pictures from this episode were incredibly similar and just plain boring.
Russel James maybe or Patrick Dermarchelier.
Yeah she was so manly she couldn't even press the camera button
That would be awesome to watch. I'd like to see the FULL REELS of their photoshoots as well. This photographer's name is Anne Menke, and she clearly has an aesthetic that isn't the most exciting in my opinion.
Yes! And Jessica can host and direct! I love it!!!
There were some gems in there, but I agree. I definitely didn't like her attitude.
Kayla was really unconfortable for a reason with the male models. You should see episode 8 and see what's happens with Ann too
Yeah maybe they could have made her mortal a woman and used one of the other contestants.. her photo is bomb though
You mean commercial?
That episode is so upsetting ugh
This was the first season they brought in so many male models to work with. Yes, they did in the past. But this season focused on it, and I feel as tho they were breaking Kayla down to share her story.
It was disgusting to watch
It’s like none of them have ever been on a harness or did any research into harnesses. The “dancer” poses that they are talking about are literally the most natural and least painful things you can do in that type of harness.
22:02
When talent has to do something very physical, like be in a harness, swing from something high up, or whatever the case may be, they get trained beforehand so they know what to expect. A real production wouldn't just throw them to the wolves hoping it works out.
So on Oliver Twist’s channel he interviewed a lot of the girls from this season, Chris, Lexi, and Kaci were the big three I can think of, and this season all of the girls got along really well, so Ken Mock shut down the cameras and told the girls if they didn’t start giving the drama they would have to recast everyone. Soo the amped the drama between Lexi and Kaci, they sent Chris’s sister home and then would ask her about it constantly, production made Kaci ask the guys to the house (she had tried out on previous seasons so producers knew her well enough to ask her to start drama). Also, apparently on set the girls did really well (according to Lexi) and then when they went in for judging they were confused about the pictures that were chosen. When you started talking about test photos it actually lines up a little with what was said about this shoot
As a model I cancelled a shoot after a fitting session because they had no mention of male models until during that fitting they told me they had decided to add them in. Definitely needs to be talked about before hand!
Strange how i watched this and other shows as a teen and did not see a problem with them. And now as a 37 year old i see so many issues with them. I see Tyra completly different now then i did as a 15 year old.
It was a different time back then. I feel the same way - now at 34 I am horrified. Back then, it didn't really register because that's just kind of how society was then - you needed to be flawless in order to be cool and fit in, and if not, you get tough love. I've mentioned it in a different comment before, but it's why movies like Mean Girls was so successful because for a lot of us that was our collective experience.
Girl!!! S A M E!!!!!!! I used to make my mom watch this show with me and she always hated it and I couldn’t figure out why. Now, I get it.
Maybe you just need to chill a bit
I saw this show when in hospital for depression and an ED annd thought the critic was absolutely normal because that was how i spoke to myself all the time
Linda Larsen det var trist å høre. Men tenk at kritikken de ga er like ille som hva de med spiseforstyrrelser sier til seg selv. Håper du har det bedre nå, og det er bra AMTM er borte. Det var ikke sunt for unge mennesker
People who said you won’t get money doing graphic designing obviously don’t see what kind of technological age we’re in, poor souls.
The mean salary for a graphic designer is not really that much ($53,000) so it just depends on where you're living and how much you're borrowing for student loans. You wouldn't want to go to a college that was over $20,000/yr for a degree in graphic design because by the end of your bachelor's you'd be $80,000 or more in debt which would be very difficult to pay back. The average pay for entry level is only $32,000-37,000 and you're considered entry level for about 3-5 years.
It's a difficult field "to make it" in - only 30% who start out with a job in graphic design are still in the field after 5 years.
@@truzle6133 That is still better than A LOT of entry level jobs that may be a business major or even architect major. My point was still in a technological age, there's room for growth faster within a technological industry that shouldn't be taken lightly.
There's nothing easy about any entry level job that you're starting out in, so that wasn't my argument either. You're making a general statement that applies to most jobs, I'm just saying that her field shouldn't be looked over in the industry that we are now in, some people are recruited right out of college and some will have to struggle until they get to where they want. I was only stating that her type of work is not to be taken as if its low end, most entry level jobs are just like that. You don't become a surgeon just so, I'm only stating her line of work is equally IMPORTANT.
@@JavelleElaine "my point was still in a technological age, there's room for growth faster within that technological industry..."
The predicted 10 year growth rate for graphic designer is 3%. The average 10-year growth rate for ALL occupations is 7%, so it's growth rate is slower than average.
Technological jobs are on the rise, just not graphic design.
".... her line of work is equally important."
I don't know what you are comparing it to and the word important is a completely subjective term.
@@truzle6133 I think, you're not even focusing how new the technological age is and for that, because of your knowledge, you are here predicting an estimated growth when most of these occupations have existed way before it. If you were to look at how fast it grows versus someone in business, medicine or law, given their history, if 4% is what is seperating persons in this industry, I would like to think it's growth is a steady and as dominating as the rest, period.
@@JavelleElaine I'm having trouble understanding everything you wrote but I'll just say that these are not my predictions, I'm citing the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Graphic design does not have growth as steady as others fields, it is below average and far below the fields with the most growth. Industrial engineering has 14% growth, physical therapy has 35% growth, and software development has 22% growth to name a few. Graphic design is not a new field, it has been reported upon by the bureau since the 1960's.
They did that one girl really dirty by giving her bright red hair. Seriously that will make it very difficult for her to be booked. A blank canvas is much more bookable when you're a model.
This season took place in 2009- 2010, with Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lara Stone & Lindsey Wixson being everywhere hence why Chelsea tooth gap was widened. While models who had red hair Eniko Mihalik, Lily Cole & Karen Elson were also widely photographed during this time, hence no surprise that she dyed Kayla's hair. You can see how the top models of the time influenced Tyra's makeover choices. Heck Karen Elson Vogue Italia cover is even pictured on the wall. Perhaps it's not as bookable by today's standards, but it was at the time.
@@ashante190 Ohhhh I see! Shows what I know hehe :)
Do you like that color on her though? I like it way more than the blonde she had before
@@jbear3478 it's ruined.
Not to mention how hard it is to take red pigment out of your hair 🛑
That one model that “complains” too much is the only one with any balls to actually say that everything they’re doing is b.s.
I just got fired after reporting harassment in the workplace and they said that I "feel" like I'm being harassed witch is different that actually being harassed, and then I was asked my age, to wich I had to say that it shouldn't matter my age, harassment is not ok no matter the age. THEN I found out that cases involving age discrimination are only valid if the victim is above 60. This country is disappointing :/
If you worked for a corporation check the code of conduct or ethics (should be in info packets given upon hiring or on their website) and look for the information about reporting cases of harassment (sexual or other). Depending on what it says you may be able to sue for wrongful termination. A man in North Carolina just sued his company for wrongful termination based on discrimination and got a HEFTY sum. This country isn’t depressing, your former employer is and it’s possible you can fight back. So find out. Don’t take it lying down if you don’t have to. FIGHTING 💪🏻!!!!
I am so sorry about that
@@nekograce7914 Agreed. Get a lawyer. You did nothing wrong, and you were blamed for reporting inappropriate behavior.
This country is going to blow in a few years if they don’t reform the labor laws.
There definitely isn't enough context here, and important details have been excluded. I'm not saying this didn't happen to you, because this kind of thing really does happen, but if you truly were harassed (and it wasn't just a "feeling") and you were fired for reporting it (and not because of some other work-related/personal issue), get an attorney. Yesterday. If you have a case, no labor lawyer will turn you away.
Remember: HR is there to protect the company, not the employees.
“She probably shouldn’t model”…with that attitude u shouldn’t be a photographer then!
Just as Jessica said, if a photographer has a defeatist attitude, it'll affect the models. Not that I'm a professional model, but every photographer I've worked with has been so encouraging & positive with me.
btw, they didn’t bleach her eyebrows, that’s just how blonde she is. it’s her hair they ruined cause getting brown dye out of natural, level 10 blonde hair is so immensely damaging.
RIP Andre Leon Talley. His influence on Black queer folk exploring fashion, on being unapologetically Southern, on fighting for inclusivity and suggesting models of color in a notoriously exclusive industry, is unmatched. Be free and rest well, ancestor.
Wait what?! I didn't know he was gone. He was young too. I'll have to do some research. He was one of the more decent people who appeared on antm. While he was tough at times, he never hid who he really was, and never overreacted for the sake of Reality TV.

"Get me a giftcard to the Nintendo eShop, I'd fall for that" 🙌🙌
Best line ever. Sorry mortal men.
100% agree with this statement
What really gets me with this show is just how unprofessional the whole thing is, all the photoshoots and panels, and what have you, but then the judges treat it all like it's so accurate to real modelling. Like, bruv, tell me Tyra herself would have put up with being one of the models on her own show...
19:29 this part was so unprofessional. The way the panel behaved was really disappointing
The thing that irks me the most about ANTM is that Tyra doesn't actually set these models up for success. It's like she wants them to purposely fail. And if they do succeed they weren't taught how to advocate for themselves and stand their ground from people who would easily take advantage of naive models starting out.
Very true, most of these aspiring models thought this was their best shot at entering the modeling industry and get left in the dust with no actual experience.
She always made sure no one could be bigger than her…when she saw special sparks in models- she destroyed them via the competition.

I’ve noticed that in a lot of professions that are predominantly female (modeling, teaching, nursing, etc) everyone else creates the environment in which they work, with little to no input from them, yet they are entirely to blame when it doesn’t work. Nurses are overworked, underpaid, understaffed, yet it’s their fault quality of care goes down. Teachers are never consulted about what actually works for their students- just handed more programs, policies, and rules to juggle on an already overstocked plate, and blamed for poor test scores, not pleasing all the parents, etc. Models are put on a set and made up, without input, then blamed when it doesn’t look good. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
i would definitely like for jessica to react to episodes of australia's top model to compare the two shows because the contrast between them are actually insane. watching season 1 of aus next top model, it was a much better environment for the models. no crazy photoshoots, the inappropriate and problematic commentary was kept to a minimum, and the biggest thing for me was the judges actually conversating with the models during panel and allowing the models to give their opinion on their own photos (both good and bad) and in general just treating the models as co-workers rather than the superiority vibe we got from the antm judges. i was pleasantly surprised and i think you would be too.
Man, all the Australian shows are so much more positive and human. Like, Australian Shark Tank is amazing where I absolutely cannot take the elitism and superiority of the American version.
minus the series’ with jodhi meares as the host (excluding alice burdeu) , the australian version and winners make much more sense as a whole too
I wouldn’t say all Australian shows are better, RPDr Australia is the worst lol
The Brit version is also better. Judges are much more cordial and kind, the girls seem more polite & supportive to each other as well. I'm an American & can see how we can get labelled as too blunt, combative or rude from a show like this 😂
Maybe if all pictures were bad, common nominator was photographer and Jay. This show was so weird.
Ann and Kayla are few of my all time favorites tho.
It’s wild that in this show you could NEVER tell who would win, they send home many with so much potential
Omg I remember watching this episode and I thought it was crazy even back then that Tyra blamed them for everything. Also I didn’t even think the photos were as bad as she said.
The "bad" photos came down to the editing. I think they purposely choose test shots sometimes just to roast the models.
@@addie-eileenpaige6460 yeah that makes sense.
the production design on this one was so bad.. theres no way those girls couldve made this concept work any better than they did, there was barely any concept to begin with.. the ideas there were wonderful but the styling, the setting, pretty much everything set them up to fail. next to none of these feel like 'fallen angels' its more like dead birds. those girls did everything they could and im amazed some of them made it look good at all, they were set up.
Have you seen the episode where one of the contestats breaks down because they where forced to work with a male model after being sexally assulted- works can't even describe how wrong it was of the show to put her in that position
Yes. It’s this season, and it’s Kayla… the commercial episode. I think they did it on purpose. The male model served no purpose in that “commercial” either.. Poor Ann too, falling everywhere on rollerblades, on top of being super uncomfortable around a male.
what if I was to pick "disappointed" as an emotion, so if they were to dislike the shot well then I accomplished the word
Yessss
Honestly it also looks like this photographer doesn't know how to transition settings from one skin tone to another when it comes to the background being blown out. Sure, maybe lighting did change, but blaming girls for bad film really boils down to posing and instructions. Also, did the photographer even really know the words that were chosen? Help at all towards getting a result other then pointless criticism about who should or should not model? Honestly ANTM is really a negative environment and the coaches themselves are creating drama rather then portraying the industry accurately.
I loved your speech about pursuing passions regardless of people's discouraging comments. That is such an important sentiment to spread. Also, you're hilarious and that's why I watch your videos :) Thanks for your knowledgable and kind feedback towards this frustrating show.
Thank you for watching Jillian ☺️✨
@@JessicaKobeissi Ah! You made me day by replying to me, fangirling :)
That moment in the video was *so* important I felt it should/could be a stand alone in and of itself.
I remember distinctly that as I excelled in school and developed my passions, when I would present them (to extremely positive review) adults would be impressed and encouraging *until* they asked, or I informed them, that I wanted to persue said passion professionally. Even individuals in the field. There was a constant hammer hanging that said, "No matter how good you are, there's always going to be someone better or luckier than you. *Don't quit your day job.")*
Looking back, it was even *more* ridiculous to carry the narrative that I needed to focus on a more "realistic" goal; eg Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher ect when I was a *child* and didn't have a "day job". That seed of doubt however, postponed or surrendered numerous opportunities I could've taken.
The moment I "stepped out" and "rebelled" by persuing my real loves they eventually went from recreation to vocation - because I did so with passion. Devotion comes easily when it's something you genuinely enjoy and care about.
I think it's a dangerous sentiment to persue your passions regardless of anything else. It's the reason why they're are so many Americans in their early twenties with $30,000- $50,000 of student loan debt and a completely unmarketable bachelor's degree like interdisciplinary studies, community organization, history or psychology. That doesn't mean nobody should get those degrees and you need to listen to other people all the time but be aware of the risk you are taking.

My 8 year old nephew likes taking pictures of insects. He's more professional than these people 👀
🤣🤣
My *very* optimistic hope is that these photographers (all of them throughout the series) ended up being called in on their harmful behavior by their friends or coworkers who watched them on the show. I really hope these people learned from these episodes.
Check out twitter and YT comments. They clearly have gotten much flak.
I went through a similar clothes bullying when i used to work for Gap and they literally told me my shirt looked like a pajama to never wear it again. Little did they know i was going through depression and that really made my self esteem go through the drain. Now ive grown to love what i wear regardless of what people say. So if you're in a situation where you're being humiliated why not stand up for yourself i mean at the end of the day try to please yourself not other people.
Jessica said it best; she called it high school bullying.
People who criticize people’s fashion are usually the least stylish most boring people ever. Pajamas are now fashion, look at slip dresses and lounge pants. NEVER let those dumb bullies make you feel less than your fab self.
Hearing Jessica speak on people not believing in her being a graphic designer made me feel seen because it's exactly what I was told. I'm so glad she went for it 🥺 as a fellow graphic designer I hope to be as fulfilled as you one day
I know i love her. I needed to hear that. I WAS a graphic design student but I realized I love traditional handmade art and photography way better and I want to pursue that, but people do make it sound like you can’t just do that or your gonna be broke. But I hate the corporate world, I’ve tried retail jobs a plenty and been harassed and bullied at them so no thanksss to those
R. I. P. André Leon Talley, trailblazer and fashion icon! I forgot he was a judge on this show when reading about his passing yesterday.
Anna Wintour maybe she's a bad person? after he's died 😠
You're right, something is up with all these needs for male models in this season and the judges emphasising boyfriends and how one of the models does not feel comfortable around men and being asked provocative personal qsns. They're always trying to stir up something.
Funny that you mention lighting and set up when it came to Jane's picture because, in Lexie's interview with Oliver, she said that Jane had won a competition on the the beach that day to take pics during the Golden Hour... but you don't even see the difference between her pic and the other girls'
damn... the contract that the photographers sign with the show probably has some sort of clause that says "I wave the right to decide which of my photos get shared on the show" so they can show all the test shots to send someone home or claim that all the models performed poorly that week.
The "how low are you about to go" comment is towards Kacey reaching for the guy's undies, not how low to the ground. lmao
right, I thought she was going to call her out 😮💨
So Nigel asking that question..."have you been physical with a boy before?" doesn't this cross the boundary of professionalism that he'd boast shouldn't be crossed especially if their is a power dynamic.
This show is a good example of how workplace bullying works. The whole targeting personal and emotional topics are the reason why most toxic work environments don't like people who keep to themselves because they lack anything to attack you personally where it really hurts. Toxic managers and coworkers like it when you tell a lot about yourself and talk a lot about yourself because the things you say are weapons that you are giving them that they can use against you at a later date when they feel like it, maybe when you're doing something that doesn't please them even if it is for your own good like not partaking in gossip with them, etc or even when you are at your best and looking confident, they bring those topics up to knock you down. Unfortunately for these girls on ANTM their information is taken before the show while they think that it is a procedure only for them to realize when it is too late why they were being asked all those personal questions. And that's on toxic people, so if you are a well-intended person be careful who you tell about yourself.
THIS
As an introvert my last boss would intentionally ask me extremely personal questions and then get offended when I declined to answer. It’s like they feel entitled towards hearing about and discussing my personal information, which is why I respectfully said I don’t want to talk about that because it’s not related to work and I don’t think it’s any of their business.
Ive quit jobs and almost want to work independently for this reason. The more classy and private you are, the more trashy nosey gossip kweens will come after you to stir their low vibe pot. NOBODY in the workplace is entitled to my personal information
The lighting is bad it’s the models fault. The male models don’t look good in the shot it’s the models fault. You chose the wrong word it’s the models fault. The sky is over exposed it’s the models fault.
Are we seeing a pattern here? Everything and anything on this show wether they can or can’t control something is there fault. I have a very special finger on my hand for these people 😉
I get that it makes for good tv but I cannot imagine the emotional gaslighting that the girls go through
good tv is a stretch
“Good tv” is a matter opinion. I absolutely despise how they try to make everything into drama. I started so many of these types shows thinking the premise sounds interesting only to rage quit 2 episodes later because the premise was thrown out for manufactured drama. Now I don’t even bother watching any reality tv, even if the premise sounds good. I know it’ll be the same crap.
It's interesting how we interpret things differently cause when Jay was talking about how low she was going to go on the male model, I thought he meant it as how low would her hands reach on his actual body but when you were talking about it, you kinda made it seem like how low the harness would allow her.
JESSICA!!!! I feel you SO hard about people judging you for being a graphic designer. I have a degree in economics but went back to uni for a degree in illustration. My dream has always been to make comics and I am still hustling toward that goal. Pursue your dreams, life is too short NOT to!
I really dislike how the panel always expects the most on the nose interpretation of the chosen word/concept. There is no room for nuance or subtlety. I am not saying that the pictures were great (although I agree with Jessica and the other comments that its not even the model’s fault) but there is for example not only one way to portray “lust”, it’s a broad and multi-layered word/idea.
I agree with this, if the model isn't super in their face with the concept, then they say the model didn't do a good job. It's so strange because I feel like people are more inclined to praise those who can bring nuance to a concept, so the fact that the judges expect them to be over the top for everything is definitely strange.
This show was sooooo problematic on so many levels. No one learned anything about fashion & modeling from this show. We just learned that managers in the work place can not just critique the hell out of us, but they're encouraged to do so!
I just saw that André Leon Talley died on Twitter and then I click over to RUclips and you’ve uploaded a video with him in it 😭💙
I love your videos, they’re so positive and funny!
😭😢
It would be so fun to see a series in reality show style where Jessica leads aspiring photographers through photography related challenges similar to her RUclips videos. I love love seeing people’s very different creative renditions of the same theme or same model etc does a show like that exist yet? I’ve seen makeup, art, body painting, lego, drag, food, cake, even dog grooming, I wanna see photography! ❤️
I would soooo watch that. Photography is my favorite thing
Jessica is such a lovely human! Always stands up for the models and calls out all of the gaslighting and horrible treatment.
“America’s Next Top Creative Writer” 😂
They put them in *harnesses* and strung them two feet above the men they were supposed to be modeling with and then got upset with the end result.
So many of the photos were cropped so weird. Some seemed to be literally framing the male models and yet the girls are critiqued for not being the focus.
Well.... i mean you cropped her limbs and half her head out so.....
Luxeria reviewed an old episode recently where they shot a “Wonder Bra ad” where they were all instructed to be very sexual with the male model, resulting in the underwear not being displayed in the photos. Then they were critiqued for their posing, that they were directed to do. It’s pretty clear that nothing about this show made any sense and everything was just a script.
I swear my hairdressing class is like if antm was hairschool. The critiques are just as helpful and depressing.
Ok I’m projecting, I had a really bad test today and got gaslit into questioning if I was seeing something different when I cut hair. I literally had to get my model to text pictures of their hair because I was so confused
😞 sorry to hear, experience will only make you better, and you might have a hater
@@onegreenenvy ❤️
Me: *Reads title ‘Is she right?’* Is she ever?!
Also regarding the male model thing, I totally agree they did it on purpose. Not only the girls have boyfriends but Kayla is terrified of men. She cries because of it later on in the cycle. 😢
So Mr Jay is worried about how low she goes but when there was a guy grinding on a model and groping her he had nothing to say about it🤨
Sorry Jessica, I'm having a heart felt moment here. Your videos and your jokes ALWAYS
I just wanted to thank you, your videos and your jokes ALWAYS me laugh and smile even during my darkest times. It can be pretty hard to get me to laugh when you're really struggling with your mental health when you're always on the verge of tears that you're trying to choke back 99% of the time. I love you and thank you so much for making me laugh, it really means so much to me. Love you xoxox
Yesss I requested this photoshoot once, thank you for doing it ❤️
Can you also react to the mermaid photoshoot from cycle 6 at some point when you can? I remember that one being particularly weird. The photos were rather beautiful overall but they had the models like, hanging from a net for the entirety of the photoshoot, and I remember Nnenna speaking up about it in particular.
She has :)
@@gisellealvarez2941 I looked through the playlists and didn't find it. If you can link me, that would be good. Thanks.
I love constant commitments on “dancer poses” but like if they’d have not done it they would have constantly talked about them not modeling from head to toe
Jessica, I wanna know what you think about the episode in this season when they do the cringe “commercial” for a fake drink brand. It involves Kayla (bright red-head) getting freaked out about them having to kiss the male models bc she has a rough past where she was m*lested as a kid. They still make her do it and it infuriates me to this day.
That is HEARTLESS!!! Jessica had said, models in the real world, sign up to work with male models, female models, do swimsuit catalogues, etc. No one is surprised by having to be physical with another model.
i'm currently in school for graphic design. thank you for what you said. it scares the hell out of me everyday thinking i may not do anything with this degree, but art and design are my life.
i'm OBSESSED With these antm videos honestly, hearing your thoughts on everything is really insightful (not to say i don't love ur other videos too, whenver u vlog photoshoots those vids are so relaxing and all the tips you give are also really great as someone who likes to do photography casually as a hobby :) )
90% of the things that they blame the models for, are things that should be handled by the photographer, creative director, costume/ stylist, etc. That show was so toxic
Apparently, not in this show. They say if the models look isn't right, the lighting sucks, the editing sucks, it's all the model's fault. 🙄
Love the encouraging words from you, almost and towards the end of your video. That message is imperative and needed to be said. We all have to trust in ourselves even though, at times it is hard to and that others count us out. It is worth it to create your journey and to learn and grow. So, thank you Jess for that reminder. Awesome video!
I still don’t understand how none of these judges and other judges that have been on here have been held accountable for these. For the sexism, racism, classism and clear harassment, bullying and isolation. The mental health of these models was never thought about if anything they looked too break them down. Yet none of these judges or producers of this programme have been publicly scrutinised by the news or reporters. I’d love to see Tyra, Nigel, mr.jay, Janet, Leon, Kelly, Yu Tsai, hell even Ashley and Rita Ora … all on a stage surrounded by the models and viewers of the show as one by one we highlight what they did and how wrong it was.
The girl that said: Men meat! Yes! 💀
Honestly as amazing of a video these always are, I don't think Jessica could have ever known just how much I NEEDED that pep talk. The exact same thing is happening to me where I have an idea of what I want and people either outright say "really?" or think they're "helpful" by asking me if I'm "sure" it's what I want.
Needed to hear that today.
Yes! Thank you for uploading this! I just got done watching all your others lol 💖💖
We didnt even get to see the best shot! Because Tyra even said to one of the models "this was the shot closest to your word" meaning it wasn't the BEST shot, just the one she thought was closest (which she then said didn't fit the word)
Another thing that bothered me when they showed a "crappy" photo of a model, it's just bull. You know there were better photos and they just didn't use it to start drama. I don't buy it.
What does Tyra mean “I heard you guys picked the word” she’s not aware of the challenge now 🙄
Honey what you said about your experience with following your heart and going after graphic design resonated so deeply! Gurl! I loved it and it was so well put! Love your channel btw💓
My mom told me going to school for graphic design was pointless because I’ll never get a job or make any money. I wish I never listened to her because graphic design is very needed in today’s world 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I remembered from Chris's interview about this photoshoot was Chris saw her frames and saw a photo of her she liked; unfortunately but not surprisingly, she didn't like the photo they chose for her as her best photo.
needed this pep talk today about doing what you love. you're the best Jessica.
in the season on netflix, i think it’s season 21, this deaf model (who won) had to do a challenge in the dark and it’s mainly a hearing listening exercise and of course he struggles with it. they blame him ofc. you should react to that
It was on cycle 22 and his name is Nyle dimarco
