Another easy and inexpensive way to upgrade upholstery is to purchase curtains. I bought 1 set at a dollar type door or Wally World for $10. I simply stapled over the old seat covers and they still look good 5 years later.

Living in a rural area, there are zero fabric options.
I have learned to patiently hunt through the clearance areas to get deals.
Thrift stores can have unused fabrics. Compare prices as some thrift stores have really high prices.
Curtains and sheets at Giant Tiger's clearance have a whole range of fabrics for many purposes.(ie purses, shopping bags, masks, gift bags, upholstery, etc.)
This week, I also got a selection of spring tablecloths on clearance at Walmart for $1.20 each.
HINT: Clearance items frequently do not scan correctly. so take confirmation photos of any pricing, have patience to take extra register time and check your receipt carefully for correct pricing.

Tracy from the Sewing Channel gave us a great tip the other day. She makes quilts but it is good for any material. W🎉hen cutting snags and fluff off the top of material always use a set of curved scissors so you don’t risk actually cutting your material. I have not yet bought a set of curved sewing scissors, but I do have a set of curved manicure scissors that I use.
Thank you for this lesson in painting cloth. Uncomplicated Great!

Deidre, this turned out so amazing! I've seen Annie Sloan paint furniture with her chalk paint, but this looks so much easier! I have a wing back chair in dusty rose coloured fabric from 35 years ago. Needless to say it doesn't quite work for me anymore. I did buy some fabric to reupholster it but have ne er gotten around to doing it. This is something I will try instead and if I don't like the results than I'll go ahead and reupholster it (someday)! Thanks for this!😊

It's very comforting to know that things aren't perfect. You absolutely did the right thing in my mind to keep going and not redo the video. You are the best. And what an awesome idea to add fabric softener. This is definitely something I will try. I love your videos. Keep 'em coming.

Wow, that turned out beautifully! So many tips & tricks packed into one video. I had no idea about using fabric softener. That’s genius! Buying fabric paint is so expensive. With your method there’s no breaking the bank! The blue was definitely the better look to go with, though you’d probably have been able to use the orange if you darkened it with some black. That might have created more of the look you were going for. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your gorgeous dining set. When your friend sees it she might just want it back!😂 Cheers from FL😺

I am IN LOVE with this technique. It was so easy, the paint goes such a long way, it smells fantastic haha, is soft and playable, looks like leather and the color stays true! I purchased an antique sofa set at a thrift store with the intent to "DYE" the material black (to make them gothic and resell) after another tutorial I saw. It came out terrible. It was brown no matter how many passes I did, streaky, stinky, and laborious - it took days and looked terrible. With this process I was able to FINISH both side chairs in a half day, the material is blacker than black, soft to the touch - I am so impressed! I even left them out in the back and the morning dew just beaded up. Love love love and I can't wait to flip more furniture with this process. ❤❤❤

Love this. As a complete novice your video has opened up some many opportunities.
It’s exciting that you can use latex with fabric softener.
I do have some questions I hope you’ll answer.
What was the paint sheen you used and suggest?
How long would you suggest for a dry time?
How long before you apply the wax and what’s the drying time for it to completely dry/set?
Does the material still retain the softness with the wax?

Are used a eggshell finish but you could use any type the drying time will depend on your heat and humidity in your home when you do it so it’s hard to say how long it will take and I let it all dry overnight and then apply the wax and then I put the chairs together the day after that and yes, it all retained it’s softness even after the wax was put on and I have had no issues since I did this project

These chair pads turned out beautifully in blue!! I have seen a whole wing chair that was painted, but the paint was not even and it felt painted! I also saw a television DIY program, where a couple tried to paint their sofa, which also did not turn out. Evidently it's easier to get an even coat on a smaller surface.

It takes patience and lots of coats for a big peice

It’s much easier than paint to recover them! And they look soooooo much better than paint

Wow you did an amazing job, and as much as I loved the rust/orange, the blue makes the blue in the carpet pop out! I am going to try this on an old upholstered chair in my bedroom, which is pink, and I hate the color. Thank you so much.
