Like the old saying "You can please some of the people some of the time. But you can't please all of the people all of the time".❤️🙏🏻The sofa came out wildly amazing !!!!!!!🌴🌸🌼🌺
All I could think about was Salvador Dali, who did some very strange things to furniture. He followed his artistic instincts wherever they led him and gave no flying "farts" what others thought. Art is raw and personal ... not everyone gets it. The rude woman has other problems that bleed into her everyday life. You handled the situation perfectly. It's difficult to shake off the dark shadow that such people cast.
@@paulaj7682 I totally agree! And it`s also true that oftentimes it`s not so much about "getting it". It`s mainly a question of resonance. Does something resonate with you or not. A wise man once said that you can`t argue over taste😀
Debbie I am an artist myself. I know how important it is to listen to your inner voice when it comes to your art. I loved how you took something that wasn't working and turned it into something wonderful. And I don't know if I would have had the patience with that woman that you did. I am a very nice person, but I think she would have pushed my buttons. LOL
Well they just have nasty people all over the world!!! But DONT listen to someone that might not have any taste worth looking are listening too! Keep on keeping on!!! You do amazing work, and I’m in love with every piece you have made, into a work of ART!!! That settee, is ART All By it self! Beautiful!!
My God woman it is AMAZING! The way I like to think about it when someone tells me not to paint is, there are copies of that couch in the world and if someone wants that couch they will find one exactly like it, but by painting it you have created a one of a kind work of functional art! It’s wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing!
All that gorgeous color makes that sofa look like it’s smiling. What a perfect place to sit at and get inspired. Love your song choice at 9:45 it made me giggle. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talents and stories with us! 💐
The couch turned out beautifully! I have to tell you, when I first started watching RUclips a few years ago learning about painting furniture with chalk style paint, I was a little annoyed by your videos. I was confused about the high angle of the camera, I didn’t understand why you were always holding more than you could handle and dropping things, and I wanted you to just get straight to the point of your story and not go back-and-forth with the painting and the story. But my daughter who was a subscriber of many RUclipsrs told me that’s just your shtick. So the more I watched, the more I got hooked. I love your stories, your quirky personality, your boldness and your creativity. And although I’ll probably always love more neutral decor for my own home, I love to watch you paint with bright bold colors and fun patterns. What a boring place the world would be if we were all the same. Keep doing what you love and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks! ❤️
Here’s my take: at first I thought, Noooooo! I want a white settee like this and they’re so expensive. BUT, being a furniture buyer/seller myself and wanting to be more brave with my creativity, I think this piece was worth the sacrifice to show we can go for it and that it’s all JUST STUFF!! And WOAH! It turned out so amazing. I love how you show us the “fail” and how you work through it. You are a true artist and someday I hope to be in your neck of the woods so I can come see your artistry in person. Keep being YOU!
I saw your original video painting fabric a while ago, I believe it was the first video I’ve seen I’ve yours and I was so impressed. I think it was very brave of you to try and now I have been looking for the perfect settee to do the same thing to. Thank you for being an inspiration 💚💚💚
Same here...! Ever since I watched that video I 've become a fan. Sometimes, Debbie's creative process is painful but, every time she comes out of her struggles is so rewarding for all of us watching, because she's following her instincts ... And that in a learning process is precious... Keep following the beat of your own drum, Debbie. You are a Rara Avis!!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕
I loved it even you thought it was “no bueno”!!!! Turned out beautiful, always does. Unfortunately people who are hurting themselves often try to hurt others. It’s hard to recognize at first and it feels personal but with patience and love we protect ourselves as well as become a beacon of hope for the hurting person. I love this video because so many creatives who expose themselves on RUclips go through the self doubt spiral that ensues after receiving hate mail. Myself included. Thankfully I’m also a psych nurse so the hate mail doesn’t bother me although like you I do take the time to reflect on my responses. Thanks for taking the time to make this video, such an important topic!
Wow! That's impressive the way you were able to rework the original painting of the couch. It turned out beautiful and your story was amazing. Good job, Debi❣️
It’s so beautiful Debi!! You created a masterpiece full of joy. I totally get it, I’m a furniture hoarder too but you helped me by telling her you didn’t want to look so you wouldn’t be tempted. People get so offended but then give you crap when they see how much you already have. We have to just keep creating. I’m gaining the courage back to put myself and my work out there and I have this great community and friends like you to thank for having faith in me. ❤️ I loved this video!
Instant tropical life vibes as soon as you look at this piece. This is so gorgeous. I think it was screaming to you "Debbie! Take me to paradise pleeeeease!" And you definitely knocked this outta the park. GORGEOUSNESS
As a former Floridian (I spent the first half of my life in Miami but I’ve been a Texan for over 23yr) this was my EXACT thought! The colors, the blend and then those GORGEOUS stencils all just screamed tropical life.💜
Your brave creativity is so inspiring! Even people who despise "the box" struggle to give up the safety within it's walls. We crave the freedom to forge our own path only to fear where it may lead (the unknown). When creating something new, we leave ourselves vulnerable to failure.
Debi I have been watching your channel since 2017 and find you to be such a gentle & compassionate person. Your creativity is so inspiring and really helps to motivate me when I seem to have lost mine. Thank you for being you. 😇💗🙏🏻🌻🌴
Zero criticism Debi! This project is so REFRESHING in this grey & white unimaginative era. Your amazing personality is infused into yet another unique and beautiful piece!!! Bravo, you’ve not disappointed us who come here for inspiration and a breath of fresh fun air.
Just watched the replay. I love how the sofa turned out! 🥰 It made my heart sad to hear about the wounded person that came into your shop. You handled it quite well. 👏 Just like paint, there are so many different shades of people, some are darker than others, maybe they need someone like you to brighten them up! ☺
I painted couple fabric French chairs 10 years ago with latex paint . It was my first painting chairs project They are at my work table and paint is still good
Well I think you painted that fabric beautifully Debbie! It's a work of art. It was nice as it was, but I'm glad you had the courage to go for it. You had vision, not many people do . Regarding the rude lady...pah!
I have admired your beautiful work since the first time I discovered your channel. I love that you just “go for it” when inspiration grabs you, the results are always wonderful! Keep up the beautiful work that you do, and ignore the naysayers. You are awesome!
Your mother's quote, the video presentation, the way you handed a very rude customer, the finished piece and the wonderful playlist you use in all your videos is absolutely beautiful, gorgeous and always keeps me coming back. Someday I will have enough cash to buy all your beautiful paints!
It looks great, your videos have inspired me so much because of how hard you have busted your ass to create something for yourself. You've created a BRAND.. that is NOT easy..... A quote I have found to be very helpful in a lot of situations "When you feel like you want to quit, remember why you started.." .. It's been stuck in my head ever since I read it and it changed my perspective. You are an artist, wether others like it or not, art is objective and everyone will have an opinion. You do you girl. I'm a fan!
I absolutely love everything you create! I am so thankful I found your channel, IOD, and others connected to y'all's brand. You are such an inspiration! I look forward to your videos and always replay them when I need a boost of creativity! Thank you for all the time you put into your company and channel! You have changed my life and I appreciate you!
You are simply adorable! I love your sense of humor, your enthusiasm, your ability to see the positive in every situation. Dealing with the public can be challenging sometimes, mostly good, but sometimes not - and every once in a while you have a real gem walk into your space and totally flip their sh*t. I have had it happen to me on occasion and being in business I reacted much the way you did, trying to remain positive on the outside and turn the situation around for the good , all the while trying to bite my tongue and contain that part of me that at this point just wants to beat the living crap out of this incredibly rude person. My Mom used to tell me when I was little that misery loves company and I think that is why some people are just toxic. Hopefully a little bit of your sunshine rubbed off onto this woman and once she calmed down she saw the situation for what it really was. Love watching your videos so much, both for the tutorials as well as the engaging stories you tell.
Oh Debbie, I hear you! I barely comment on anything these days, because no matter what I say, it seems to trigger someone. A few weeks ago, I commented on how much I admired a woman alone in a foreign country, without transport, building her own home. I commented because I truly admired her, but the backlash was unbelieveable! All you can do is inwardly laugh, as these comments always tell more about them than they do you. The war is spiritual as the days are very dark, all we can do is armour up and pray for them. Love the sofa! ❤
Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. That sofa is Stunning! I was a little afraid at first but you really saved it!
Love to you Debi ! So glad you are not hung up on what people don’t understand . Do DEBI ! I love the art and the lessons. As for the rude lady, when a person’s soul is troubled, nothing comes out but toxins. Pray for her and release her .
Debi I love you so much, Love the way you go from this to that with a specific song between and for your sofa, my gosh it's absolutely divine! A few years ago, maybe 3 years, I stumble on one of you video showing a painting sofa and I was in love. Went onto marketplace and went looking for the wright piece and I found this beautiful brown leather sofa and chair a few hours from my place and absolutely out of my price range but I had to have it, well that set is still in my living room in a dark navy blue with a lot of transfer's on it and as to this day I still love it !So a big HOURA to you for being different ! (Note: hope you understand what I wrote cause I'm a french Canadian)
I think the sofa turned out great! While it’s not my style, I can certainly appreciate the artistry. I think people often say “ don’t do it!” because “they” Don’t have the courage to “even try” what you’re hoping to accomplish. But you Debbi need to continue following that little inner voice that tells you, “more paint, that’s what this piece of furniture needs!” After all that’s why we love you.
Debi, you didn't ruin that sofa, you saved it from boredom! :))) It's so cheery and inviting!! I love your art, and keep doing what you love and be courageous in all you do!! :)))
Absolutely stunning! I absolutely love your pieces and the way you handled that lady speaks volumes to what an absolutely beautiful soul you have. I'm sure it wasn't easy as she kept poking at you trying to get you to react, but your positivity definitely glowed. You are truly an inspiration.
I’ve been wanting to paint a couple of pieces of furniture but wasn’t sure what color to use. I originally thought I’d paint them more neutral but since they are currently a floral of pink & green, while on the lighter side, after this video where you say the fabric should be lighter than the paint, I’m going to reconsider the color. And maybe reconsider the placement of the furniture. Where I wanted it is in a room with bold colored curtains & a bold wall color because those are easy & less expensive to change than furniture…unless of course you’re painting it. I think I’ll still paint them a bold color but put them in a room where they will be the focal point & move more neutral pieces into their old spots. I wish I had space to store & paint furniture like you have. When I retire, it’s my dream to spend a week on the country’s largest yard sale & buy furniture, enough for a year. Then paint it & donate the pieces to our local shelter for women leaving abusive situations. I’d like for each woman to pick a piece to take with them as they start their new lives.
I appreciate so much that you didn’t give up when it looked poorly. You took a beat and dove back in and wow, it really bloomed! You’re an inspiration to be brave and trust ! Xo
I don't know how you do it! My grandma used to tell me "girl, when God was handing out patience...you were too impatient to wait for yours!' LOL I make up for it in other ways!! Your patience & kindness are just a couple things we all love about Debi Beard. You must have "waited a long time & stayed to get extra patience" my friend. Your kindness & patience are just 2 of the things that draw us all to you!! I love that you show different ways to use your projects & even show your "mistakes" which to some people they are loving it & yelling at the screen "noooo, keep going! Paint thru the odd/ugly bc you will find the way as you go!" It's nice to know that even the pros like u can go down the wrong path, find a fork in the road, go down the rabbit hole, & complete a gorgeous piece!! There's lots of people in this world who chase their wine/whining with a glass of Haterade! You make the very best Lemonade my dear!! Much love & respect! XOXO
Thank you ❤️ patience was a very big struggle for me over the years God has slowly helped me and given me a desire to restrain my impatience🙏 thank goodness he does not give up on us❤️
Debi, your videos inspired me years ago to take a leap of faith and deck out my house. I was trying to figure out how to blend my love of vintage and bright colors with my mad thrifting skills into a beautiful home on a tiny budget. Your videos taught me to be brave and if it doesn't turn out...paint over it! Now my home is fabulous and when I need inspiration I always look to your YT channel. Haters gonna hate but there are lots of us who think you are fantastic! Thanks for your transparency and authenticity!! ❤
Hi Debi❣️ Beautiful piece....love the colors🤩 Just a fabulous job🌟 I love your stories and I know they are real life stories! Your story reminds me of a story now 30 years old...my daughter was in dance class and the girls had just received their costumes for their recital....All the Moms were standing around the waiting room getting instructions on all things recital and what needed to be done to each costume etc and this woman had entered this crowed room was huffing and puffing ( clearly she was running late) she listened for about 2 mins then started muttering about the cost of the costumes and why should she have to sew anything, etc I will never forget the dance owner/ main teacher’s response to this women’s behavior.....she quietly moved herself closer to the women ( most of the parents had left by now) and in a low voice said to her ...you must have had a really bad day.....I don’t think you could possibly be this angry with me ....the woman started crying and talked about how horrible her day was etc etc apologized to the teacher.....I was amazed at the process and how it immediately defused the women’s anger.....I’m.so sorry I didn’t get that out quicker ...but I have used this with my Mother, employees and in many situations and it works ever time! Thank you for sharing your beautiful talents and and stories😊kim
I’ve become this way with reupholstering…people have said why would you reupholster that? And I’m like..ugh bc I can!💕 same with redoing my wallmurals, other paintings and redecorating my home. It’s all part of being an artist and a passion to create!
It turned into a beautiful piece of art! I’m sorry you and your Dad were faced with a rude person who sought you out. You’re definitely a lady and a class act, as they would’ve received a tongue lashing from me as I showed them to the door. Stay true to yourself Debi and keep that beautiful smile on your face!
My favorite kind of video, an art project with a story. You are wonderful and talented. As far as the lady goes you never know what someone else is going through. You were kind and that’s all that matters.
Debi, I think it looks fabulous!! I was one that didn't think you should paint it but I'm so glad you did!! It has personality now!!! As far as the rude customer, you have to wonder how sad her life is. Did she just come there fo sell a piece of furniture? Love y!!
WOW that is gorgeous Debi!! Yes as a shop owner for 37 years, I could write volumes of books on stubborn, funny, rude, mean and amazing customers and the stories, oh my! If I had time I would! You did the right thing. My husband had to quit working in our shop early on, cause he couldn't stand the bad attitudes and remarks. So funny now to replay those times! \o/
Excited for this video, Debi! You’re so brave! It turned out so pretty! Sorry you have to deal with rude people, but I’m glad to hear you’ve learned how to not be too triggered by them. Some people aren’t as far along on the journey.
I think it turned out gorgeous! We used to be part of a vintage thrift store and we got quite a few customers walk thru loudly complaining about how the majority of the furniture was OMGAWD .. PAINTED!! but that was our niche, taking old furniture that had seen better days and upcycling it to another chance at life instead of putting it in the landfill. They acted like we had committed a moral sin ... but it all sold very well so we just let their uppity comments roll off our backs like water on a duck. I'm older now and disabled, unable to paint & such anymore but i sure do miss it TERRIBLY. Am glad you decided to 'soften' the sharp zigzag points on this piece .. the bones of the settee are all curvy, and sharp angles in the paint would clash to the point of giving me a headache. 😉
This is beautiful! You should never doubt your intuition. Took me a long time to learn to trust mine. It was a painful lesson but one I’ll never forget. This sofa turned out wonderfully. Thanks for sharing the story with us.
I've been away from your channel for quite awhile and it's Sunday morning, with coffee cup in hand I thought I'd see what you have been up to. I didn't realize that I missed your beautiful artwork and of course your lovely story telling. I especially remember how much you wanted your original house and with your Dad transformed it to a cute boutique for your artwork. For me, it was sad that it is now used for storage, but a person needs to do what they want no matter what others think. These past several years with all that is going on is tough on us all even when we don't think it has been. It has been a difficult roadl, but watching your videos and listening to your stories made my Sunday morning a little brighter. Thank you
Debi, your videos seem almost "holy" to me....I cannot tell you how much I adore what you do, how you relate to us viewers, how you view life... I sit at my desk (at work, shhhh) watching this with tears in my eyes! I just love your stories and your work - the sofa is GORGEOUS - and you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Debi -- this is beautiful! The original tan was BLAH. You do you. That woman was terribly rude. Afraid I would be rude back or laugh, neither response good. I am going to look for a peice similar to this because it would be fabulous in my living room. Those inlays are awesome.
I actually liked where you were originally going with it, but I like the final results as well. I am very interested in trying out the paint inlays using your method. I really liked what you did on the back.
Once she engaged, she wanted YOU engaged. Period. She knows full well your dad wasn’t rude. That’s why she drug him into it. She was upping the ante. Many a person would have taken the bait. You were excellent! This kind of person is toxic to everyone- except possibly her children, who by the way can do no wrong, even if they’re caught red-handed. I’ve never known how they get along in the world. Or how they live so long because the acid in their systems would surely kill us! Great story and I really love the couch!
I so appreciate your bold creativity and this piece really demonstrates your love of colour. Personally I can’t see how it’s any business of ours (your viewers) to try to dictate what you should or shouldn’t do with pieces you own! On other channels if we’re asked for an opinion I have sometimes chimed in but do so respectfully. I kind of felt sorry for the woman who lashed out at you. Imagine living life with that kind of anger!
Ok so that had to be time consuming but oh wow it’s stunning. Yes I liked it before it’s classic but omg this is a work of art. Kudos to you for taking chances.
I always love your channel because you don’t delete your mistakes. How can we learn otherwise? Life and art are messy. We have to learn to repair it!! 🤷🏼♀️
I KNEW you wouldn't ruin it. I just knew it, and you didn't disappoint. I could watch your videos 24/7. You're so creative & inspiring. Congrats on the magazine spread. You deserve it. Thank you.
Everybody's got an opinion but you've got to listen to your inner artist. This looks beautiful Debi! BTW fellow furniture hoarder here... my husband doesn't understand!! Cheers ;-)
So good to see you back again on RUclips! Sometimes there is nothing you can do (if you want to stay on the polite side). It is ok to say that’s enough and walk away or defend your dad first by saying I actually heard the conversation, he wasn’t rude, it’s enough now and walk away or ask her to stop or leave. You had been polite despite her ongoing unpleasantness, I know it’s hard but you don’t need to take someone’s verbal lashings.
I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for sharing you are a continual source of encouragement and inspiration. My pieces are not as artist or brave as you but on occasion I step out. Thank you 🥰

I'm a fan!
💗Gorgeous! 💕I absolutely love watching recaps of the projects that change direction in the process. 💞Thanks Debi! 💖
That sofa turned out fantabulous!!!!!!!
I love your daring creativity you’re an inspiration and keep breaking out of the constraints of the norm!!!!😀❤️
So beautiful Debi I must come and see your awesome shop it’s just full of the things I love !
Oh I miss these types of story telling videos!
Debi the sofa is breathtaking !!! You are so very talented!! I hope one day to be better at my painting. You give all of us so much inspiration!!!
Absolutely beautiful! I wish I had your eye for color!
Love this:) and story too....Would LOVE to see the process of organising your space as well!
That is beautiful Debi. Great job!!!!
I appreciate so much that you didn’t give up when it looked poorly. You took a beat and dove back in and wow, it really bloomed! You’re an inspiration to be brave and trust ! Xo
No dancing? Debi that's my favorite part of every video. Please keep dancing.
XOXO
Thank you ❤️ patience was a very big struggle for me over the years God has slowly helped me and given me a desire to restrain my impatience🙏 thank goodness he does not give up on us❤️
I think you do you boo! I love it! I too work in the public and some people are just unhappy and take everything personal. You handled it very well.
Wow! I love how the little sofa turned out, yes it was beautiful before, but now it’s so pretty and cheerful, it’s a very happy piece
I absolutely LOVE this!! Powerful story & love love love love the couch!
I LOVE the tropical beachy look you created on that sofa!
Beautiful & Fun!
Excited for this video, Debi! You’re so brave!
It turned out so pretty! Sorry you have to deal with rude people, but I’m glad to hear you’ve learned how to not be too triggered by them. Some people aren’t as far along on the journey.
It’s beautiful! I love what you have done!
I love everything about you, your channel, your creativity, your live videos on Facebook, and your stories! You are a wonderful soul!
Thank you
That piece is absolutely amazing!!
That is totally awesome Debi, some ppl just can't see the artistic side. Totally love it!
It’s fabulous Debi!
You have a good attitude Debi. You did a fantastic transformation on the sofa. I hope it sold quickly ❤😊
Sorry you had to go through that. Remember it had nothing to do with you. I love the sofa. It is wonderful you were able do make it so beautiful
One thing I have learned doing art, especially with paint, is never give up!!! It's not over yet!!! Good things come
Love your artwork on the furniture, beautiful job! So sorry you had to deal with a nasty customer, sending ❤
Cheers ;-)
Definitely be proud of it. It turned out wonderful!!!
I much prefer it painted, but I'm not one for neutral colors and pices. I love it ♡
So good to see you back again on RUclips!
I am an artist and I know when your inspired you have to go with it. Love you and a great inspiration !💖💖💖
I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for sharing you are a continual source of encouragement and inspiration. My pieces are not as artist or brave as you but on occasion I step out. Thank you 🥰
