Excellent work, trying to get mine done the same way, previous owner didn't care about it and I'm so particular about details and cleanliness, can't stand dirt/junky look, I like clean and proper. Your videos on your Tacoma helped a lot. Thank you. I had to Subscribe.
I was gifted a 95 4x4 Tacoma by my auntie in 2008. It's a manual, red truck, single cab and it's still my daily driver. I need to fix up my interior a little bit too 🤣
I was surprised by the parts that I was able to buy from Toyota. Toyota does not have very many interior parts but if you are lucky you can still find good parts at junk yards. There are online junk yards that show pictures of the trucks and interiors. And they ship also. If your truck has bucket seats the passenger seat fabric will fit on the drivers seat. Most of the drivers seats are worn out. I got lucky and found a matching passenger seat and used the parts to fix my drivers seat. Good luck with your restoration.
@@4x4mikey I have the bench seat and the drivers side is worn out. The mechanics of the car are all in top shape. I've just finished the last mechanical repairs. Next on the list is the audio system and a paint job. Then I'm going to spend some funds on redoing the interior with a local custom car shop. Nothing too, too crazy, but I would prefer a vinyl floor vs the carpet. An arm rest that folds down from the middle seat would be nice on a long road trip.
I want to do the gauge cluster swap you did! I have a 96 Taco. What did you search for to get the one with the tachometer? And are there any changes to the electrical connections?
I found the one I swapped in on eBay. It was for a V6. My truck has the 4 cylinder. I just hoped it would work. The gauge cluster plugs right in. It looks like Toyota used one wire harness for all the Tacomas. All of the warning lights work and the tack worked but it does not read correctly. I checked it with an RPM gauge on my multimeter. It reads about 100 rpms off at idle and then the loss gets larger as the rpm's rise. If you buy one make sure the one you get is for your engine. Also about mid 1997 the tacoma speedometer went to digital and no longer used a cable so also check that.
Robert, I used a cheap steam cleaner from amazon and I used my shop vac to vacuum up the wetness. It worked very good. Be careful when using the steam cleaner on the plastics because it will dull them. The heat and steam pulls the oils out of the plastic. Armorall or similar will bring back the color. For the fabrics I used some foam carpet and fabric cleaner and I was very surprised how well it worked. The previous owner was a heavy smoker so you can see in one of the videos all that nicotine coming out. I also used some dawn dish spray but the foam carpet cleaner worked best. The steam cleaning and the detergents got rid of 95% of the smoke smell.
I paid $7800. A lot of people might say that I paid too much but these trucks are hard to find in good condition. They are built like a tank and where I am from 75% of them are driven into the ground. The nice ones are not for sale. You take a chance when buying a car off Ebay but this one turned out to have good bones. I will be putting out completed interior video in a day or two. I will probably have 3 to 4K in parts but on the last video I will put in all of the costs. There will be a mechanical repair video and a body repair video. Thanks for watching I hope to finish this project and then find another truck to do a driver quality restore on.
Thomas, I got lucky and found a passenger seat out of a junk yard that was from about the same year. It was filthy but it cleaned up. For the bucket seats the passenger fabric will fit on the drivers seat. The drivers seat was damaged in my truck. Most passenger seats will not have a lot of wear. I also had to take the seat fabric panels to an upholstery shop to repair one vinyl part that was damaged. There are online junk yards that will ship you the parts and most of them have pictures of the trucks.
I have seen a heat gun used in different situations. There are some RUclips videos where Tonka toys are restored and they used heat guns on the plastic wheels to make them look new. Most of the Tacoma dash, console and trim is made of hard plastic. It works pretty good on the light scratches and makes the deep scratches less visible. The plastic will be discolored at first but the color evens out after it cools. Also after it cools down adding armor-all or some other plastic protectant helps the scratches to disappear even more. You have to be careful not to melt the plastic. If it gets too hot small bubbles will form. I only used the heat gun on the hard plastic. It will damage vinyl and I was a little worried that someone may try to use the heat gun on vinyl after watching the video.
You did a commendable job on those seats. I recently watched a car flipping channel where these guys decided to "improve the value" of a Tahoe or Suburban and ordered the cheapest leather seat covers they could find online and replaced the perfectly good cloth seat covers. Did they do a good job? Let me put it this way, when they were done that leather upholstery had more wrinkles than Trump and Biden put together.

Thanks for the comment good luck with your project.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great use of natural sound instead of having music
Thanks for the comment. There will always be natural sound in my videos.
ThE sandwich part caught me off guard 😂🤣😂🤣😂 👍🏼
lol
Looks great. Id like to find another one to tinker with. You should have added a clock while you were changing things out 😉 EDIT - you did later!
There’s also a mod to the clock to display the battery voltage instead
Hahahahaha, the Sandwich , was a nice touch ! :)
Lol, one of the few people that did not skip through the entire video. My wife does not like participating in my jokes.

What brand of interior carpet cleaning machine would you recommend? Great vid !!

@@4x4mikey great information. Thank you.
may I ask how much was the truck? I am looking for a nice little reliable taco just like this one and dont mind putting in some elbow grease.

Where’d you get the new seating materials?

I was wondering about the passenger seat fitting, now thanks to you I now know I can use the passenger seat to replace the drivers bottom. Thanks.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The dogs got a nice treat lol
Where did you learn the heat gun trick? I’ve never seen that or maybe I’m living under a rock!

LOL. I was very lucky to find a good passenger seat from a junk yard. It cleaned up well in the washing machine and the fabric fit the drivers seat.
