    I can just imagine, visitors ask to use the bathroom, and then rotate out the toilet and do their bizness, while continuing to carry on a conversation. A great comedy routine, but one I get, as I had a converted stepvan in the '70s that had a PortaPottie (I never forgot that great product name) under one dinette seat. A bit awkward when other's are about, but by oneself, and it's raining outside, it got the job done just fine.

    Nice video. Just checked the specs on the Ford F-150s and if you wanted to stay in the 1/2 ton area, would have to purchase one in the upper models, possible 4x4, and larger engine to have a safety margin to haul one of these. It was interesting to see two outside compartments that were not lockable. The propane storage area being one but this makes sense in case of an accident and the water access being the other one. I thought for sure they would do the same as they do on the 400 and have it where you can lock that cover. The layout was very nice and typical of nucamp well done. Nothing looks cheap. You said there is an option for a microwave and I'm going to assume that would take up one of the upper cabinet areas. Very impressed until it came to the toilet. My wife of 40-years looked at me and said NO WAY IN H#$$. Plus, it's right under the fridge and next to the food prep area. Understanding the design struggled with weight, perhaps focused on 1/2 trucks, and wanted as much as possible inside they did a great job. I know lots of comments there needs to be a wet bath but honestly, I don't see where you would put it and still have a rig that would fit a 6' bed.

    • @cheftomsd
      @cheftomsd 29 дней назад

      I had an F150 in 1986 which had a payload package. It was rated to carry about 2,600# in the bed. Mine had a EFI 5.0 V8 and 3.55 rear end. Was a great set up for my 8' camper (1,300# dry wgt) which did not have a shower but had a porta potty.
      I swapped out the passenger rated tires for truck tires and added air shocks.
      Wet baths add a lot of weight; you probably would need to step up to a 3/4 ton truck for that.

      @@MandyLea I have a good question... Why would you want a truck camper? honest question

    • @MandyLea
      @MandyLea  3 года назад +2

      @@TENNESSEETORNADO It's not for everyone, each person has a style that works best for them. But, some of the pros to a truck camper are that you get a camper without having to tow! It's very easy and convenient to get around - and allows you to get to some places that a normal tow behind would not go. They are still pretty quick to drop off the back of the truck, so you have a vehicle to drive around after you set up camp. The floor plans are open and roomy... but you do have to have a truck that can handle one.

  • @mrutan6055
    @mrutan6055 3 года назад +11

    The 2013 F150 I traded off for a 250 had a payload of 1700 lbs you would have to get the camper down to about 1000 lbs to leaver enough payload for the weight of the passengers and equipment. Such as a pop-up like a palamino. And no amount of extra springs and air bags is going to legally change your payload.

    • @MastaSquidge
      @MastaSquidge 2 года назад +1

      Yeah they conveniently leave out the little detail that you can only really haul it totally empty and with very few vehicles with specific options packages.

    • @cheftomsd
      @cheftomsd 2 года назад

      I had an 8' Six Pac back in the 80's that weighed 1200# dry. The F150 with payload package would carry up to 2500# in the bed so this was a good combination. The 5.0 liter V8 with automatic was a good setup with this camper. I did install overload springs, tranny cooler and replace the tires to LT tires.

  • @unitedwestand126
    @unitedwestand126 3 года назад +28

    I saw the previous view you had up for the prototype of the cirrus 670. I actually liked that setup. If these truck campers are 4 season campers, it would be nice to have a compact shower inside rather than having to go outside for a quick shower especially in colder temps. I like this one but would still like an indoor shower 😊

    • @diamondeye75
      @diamondeye75 3 года назад +10

    • @ladin425
      @ladin425 2 года назад +2

      @@diamondeye75 I agree. I like the cassette toilet, but I need a shower. You would be surprised to know how much of these campers are made of off the shelf parts. I think it wouldn[t be too hard to build one yourself if you don't mind taking on a project.

  • @TimNelson

    As a designer, I see this the good thinking behind this product. Great design first REMOVES elements that are not needed. Then you address the items generally not wanted. "Deconstructive" thinking brings the core elements of value. Yes, thank you, remove the television, AC unit and the awning. Well done, design team. Congrats.

    Great review! I know you made a disclaimer regarding the need to check payload capacity of respective half-ton truck, but in all honesty these things would probably have to be built out of balsa wood to be within usable payload capacities (i.e. with passengers, fuel, supplies, etc.) of most half-ton trucks (even with max payload option added).
    Having said that, I think this is a great camper for almost any 3/4 ton truck, and that's how camper manufacturers should be marketing them (imho).

    Please, could you mention the price. Even if it’s rounded off. I hate an entire video on a camper, then NO mention of price. I have to go to the damn website to find the ballpark price. Thanks

    • @MandyLea
      @MandyLea  Год назад

      Apologies. I try to mention price, but this particular video was of a prototype that did not even have a ballpark price at that time. The video is also 2 1/2 years old so it would not be accurate at this point anymore. The newest version of this camper is now called the Cirrus 620 if that helps.

    Still too heavy and the tanks are too small. They could easily lighten this camper by choosing lighter materials for cabinets. A pop up camper is the way to go for half ton trucks. There are plenty of pop up campers available that weigh below 1200 pounds.

    All those big round plastic caps they use to cover the fasteners in the cabinetry and wood trim make it look really cheap. I expect better from nuCamp. I thought they were trying to be a premium brand.
