Absolutely love this. Havn't heard it for years, used to be someone at Butlins Pwhelli who sang this in the early 90's, I'd never heard it before then but couldn't get it out me head lol! Funny enough we are going to Blackpool next week & going to the Bloomfield Club & who should be on the bill on one of the nights but Nicky Newsome who wrote the original version.
I am quite amazed at how many claim to have written this. As far as I am aware, Larry (White) wrote a number of versions about Liverpool and Birkenhead and sang them all around the area. Hopefully he will either confrim or deny having written the original as he is still doing a great job of performing this and many other songs.
I see John Clarke was DRAGGED up can't even put a capitol letter on his own surname pmsl... Nob! Birkenheader's where and are still a great friendly bunch, listen to the record and you may see.... Thanks Larry White and Chris for this insight
