- In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to root the Xiaomi Mi 9. We will be following the Xiaomi Bootloader Unlock Guide and original Xiaomi Universal Root Guide I wrote last year since the process is exactly the same. And this root method is also same on all Xiaomi smartphones so you can follow along even if you have another Xiaomi device, only thing different is the TWRP recovery you will be using for your specific model of Xiaomi Android smartphone. Now, the video tutorial is really just a video I filmed while rooting my new Xiaomi Mi 9 but it still should be very helpful for those of you who are rooting your Xiaomi Mi 9 or any other Xiaomi smartphone. This is awesome! I have the Mi 9T, and it worked perfectly exactly the same way. The Magisk version on your website was slightly out of date, but it was able to update itself after it installed. This is the first time I've properly rooted a phone without using a sketchy "one-click root" solution, so it was pretty exciting to see TWRP boot for the first time for me. Thanks!
Great video Max, you forgot though the step where you go into Settings-Developer Options-Mi Unlock Status and "add account". At least for me that was necessary. Love your content and stay always high on Android!

hello, i just did what u just do in the video, but after rebooting the system, yhe system keeps rebooying to TWRP and wont boot in to the mi system, is there anyway to fix this? thanks

I bought an international version of the Xiaomi 9 and want to root it. I have a few spare ATT SIM cards to use in the process and want to know this phone, when rooted, will be able to operate on the ATT network. I fully enjoyed your universal and M9

The official TWRP was out but you typed in "Mi9" and not "Mi 9"
Btw, I'm having this strange power consumption problem. Using BetterBatteryStats, it shows a huge otg_default and qcom-step-chg wakelocks... almost a 20% better drain overnight (flight mode and no apps running)

Hi Max! I did this with my Xiaomi MI 9 MIUI 10 Android 9 installed successfully but it didn 't work with MIUI 11 Android 10. I have a bootloop. Maybe have to use another version of TWRP Recovery? Any idea how to fix it? Thanks forward...

i have a question... i install the beta miui 12.5 and i wanted to have the fast f2fs storage so i downloaded the f2fs patch zip and the Mi9 boot perfectly but when i restart it it cant boot to the miui and it need to reinstall the Rom from the scratch . Maybe im doing something wrong? but i know how to install roms etc...Can you try and see what i mean. by the way i am a big fan of you sins the Giveaway with Flossy carter and i dont know why i chose that video to make that comment. doesn't work for me. It doesn't show me the thing on my phone when i type "fastboot reboot" and press volume up + power, it just goes back to the "fastboot" screen

When I hold Power button + Volume up it after "fastboot reboot" it just brings me back to fastboot mode... no matter how many times i tried and how long I hold the buttons

i might need your help with something... i finished all the steps and installed magisk onto the device but after i exited twrp through the reboot now option after installing the zip (had to do alot of stuff to even get encryption gone) i cant boot into anything the phone just keeps boooting into fastboot thats all i have... please help
