  • Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) wrote his Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C minor, BWV 564 probably in his Weimar years (1710-1717). The earliest known manuscripts date from 1719-1727. In Bach's organ works, this particular adagio stands on its own and has virtually no parallels with his other works. This performance by Dutch organist Jan Harryvan, recorded in 2001, has an otherworldly quality that invites deep rest to settle in your system.
As with several inspired compositions by the great composers, pieces such as this are thought to stimulate a positive correlation with brain wave frequencies (a stabilizing effect around the alpha frequencies of 7 - 8 Hz).
