Our next ‘patient’ came in with nausea and right lower belly pain, and was found to have an enlarged appendix. While most are removed via laparoscopic surgery, we chose an open approach, allowing a bit of practice with ligation and tying knots 🪢 (turns out he has a novel but working technique!).

Spoiler alert: one surprising (and extremely rare) finding in our case at grossing - appendiceal myxoglobulosis, also known as “caviar appendix”. This variant of appendix mucocoele is characterized by numerous pearl-like balls filling the appendix, resembling fish eggs or frog spawn, and can cause a (very) cute appendicitis 😂
