I have never had potty failures as bad as I have with my Bostons. I guess I was unable to be consistent in the beginning, and now, they're two years old and still soil the house. They can be outside playing for hours and will come in and go in the living room. I am retiring in a month and will be able to walk them every hour, so I will give this technique a shot. Fingers crossed!
I was lucky with my girl. I took her out often and she picked up on things really quick. I also focused on forming a strong bond with her as a pup. She slept with me the first few nights. I never yelled or got violent. She is a wonderful and gentle dog. My uncle always told me that you have to be Firm, fair, and consistent.
@@BostonTerrierSociety I hung by our sliding door and I just kept showing her and hitting with her paw when I took her out. Then she just started doing it on her own . She was super smart. Well I think all Bostons are. I love you chann
I love all of your suggestions. I lost my 16-year old Boston a few months ago and deeply grieved. I just found Iris, a darling five-year old Boston and this is her second day in her new home. She is doing great, and I'm grateful to have your postings-all so relevant. Bostons are so emotionally intelligent as well as incredibly brilliant. They are the best.
We did all things you mention with Frankie, who is now 22 months old and they worked like a charm. We also used a crate early on and kept using it for quite some time. He NEVER had an accident in the crate, and we found it very helpful to get him house trained quickly. Also, to this day he runs into the crate at bedtime. I’m sure the “hidden” treats we used to leave there didn’t hurt.....
First time puppy owner...our Boston is 4 months and we still are struggling. I am hoping some of these tips help, even though we are already doing most of them. Wish us luck!
/We just put the deposit down on our first Boston Terrier puppy. She is 7 days old, we get her on July 14. I'm doing my homework on the breed before we bring her home and I found your channel!!!
Received a Boston Terrier for my birthday a week ago. She is 9 weeks and already going potty outside. She sits and knows her name. She has a regular routine and I have to say that she is the best dog ever!! I have a brother and sister who are 7 year old Poodles, who took what seemed like forever to be potty trained. I found you a few weeks before driving 1,050 miles round trip to get this little (?) bundle of love, your advice, etc gave me lots of confidence in allowing a Boston to own me! 😉
By the way, what type of good would you recommend on a puppy or just a general Boston terrier? Kibble? Store bought or special? Raw diet, good or bad? Thoughts on it? How to know if a Boston is allergic to their food? So much to cover on this topic haha
Thanks for a refresher course! We have become new foster parents for a 5 year from a puppy mill.😥 Could you maybe do a video on walking on a leash. Thanks for sharing and life is better with a Boston Terrier ❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾
You’re welcome! Oh my goodness that is sad but amazing you were able to bring them into a loving home. Yeah I can make a video like that just from my personal experience...my wife and I are not trainers but we do have some tips on walking Bella.
Hi! Would be good to talk about the health related issues and differences from this breed and the Frenchie. If you could upload something in regards to these matters, when it comes to vet visits/costs and if the breed is right for the person or not. Maybe things the breed doesn't like, some dog breeds don't like going on walks in the rain etc.
Hi I'm having a hard time potty training Monchi. He is 3 months old. I stay consistent but I'll take him out and all he does is lay down or eat leaves. Then goes back inside and pee in the house. He knows he is not supposed to coz once he does, he'll come to you looking guilty. Any advice would be appreciated. Ps thank you so much! Your channel is incredible! 🤗
I have a Boston Terrier and he is just 3 months old, he is with us almost 1 month, he is about 65% trained to go on the pee pee pads, he is a terror, into everything, if he can get it in his mouth he'll try and eat it, he's on a semi raw diet with supplements, raw prime rib and cooked chicken tenders, and I thank you for your training help
We’ve owned 14 dogs before we got our first Bostie one month ago. We’ve successfully house trained NINE Italian Greyhounds-which are notoriously hard to house train. This Boston is by far the most difficult breed we’ve had. Way harder than an IG. House training a dog isn’t rocket science, but this Bostie is clueless. He is currently 14 weeks old and our IG is 18 weeks old (yes two puppies). The IG figured it out in less than a week. The Boston will pee right in front of us right after he just peed outside. He learned the dog door on his own the first week, so we know he CAN learn. We don’t take our eyes off him and take him out every 25-30 minutes. He’s gone out on his own and did his business maybe a dozen times. Maybe. We follow him when he goes out on his own, always watching. He’s a sweet boy from a very reputable breeder, but we don’t quite know what else to do. And strangely enough-he will go out on his own and poop, but will come back inside and then pee-even after he just peed. And he doesn’t sniff around looking for a place-he just stops and kinda squats and pees. WTH?!?
Im having similar problems. My puppy is driving me crazy. It seems spiteful what he does. If I don't keep an eye on him at all times, he'll go pee as soon as I turn my back on him. And it's just pee. He'll go a week or two with no "accidents" and as soon as I think he's learning. Bam. He's peeing inside again. It's so frustrating I'm turning to RUclips AGAIN for ideas of what to do. This has been going on for months.
Sorry, my previous comment was accidentally added before completion. . . I really just wanted to say thank you for your time and knowledge, as it has helped in her transition from farm puppy to house puppy. Please continue to share as I am certain that you will be an inspiration to others who are considering " making life better with a Boston Terrier!" 😉👍❤
I’m getting my first puppy, a Boston, on New Year’s Day! He will be 8 weeks old and I’m very excited. I’ve been nervous though, because I know Boston’s don’t like the cold, and I live in the Midwest. Will having a young puppy during the winter make it hard to potty train?
Winter in Idaho was tough on both of us. Once weather changed I left the door cracked. Now if she has to go, winter is arriving. She just stands next to the door.
My partner and I have a 2 year old that we got as a puppy and we just rescued a 3 year old female that was used as a breeder. She is just so sweet and affectionate and we just love her. Problem is that she's a little harder to potty train. Do you think she could have some trauma from being a breeder. I don't think who ever had her let her inside their house or showed her any loving but we just love her and she's with us now and she's loved and safe.
We are about 7 weeks from getting our first Boston Terrier. She's a Red Boston, and we cant wait. Any way you could show what a Vet looks for in a healthy Boston Terrier? We love all your videos, and after watching decided we wanted one. Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for these potty training tips. We are getting our new girl Boston in 2 weeks! I would be quite appreciative of a video on proper crate training. We plan to use crates. Thanks for all the help!
I'm trying to create a video covering this topic. It will be a while before it comes out. Here is the link to the Boston Terrier Society Facebook community there you can talk to other owners who have had success with crate training...facebook.com/groups/bostonterriersociety I hope this helps.
We have successfully trained both Bostons and Shepherds for many years. In all of those years we have only had one problem child (every family has at least one). She hated to go out in the rain and snow, we have a back yard so we would let the dogs out. For many years she was good about going outside only, until she was about 6, and started peeing in the house (never pooping). Of course we took her to the dr. to see if there was some kind of bladder infection or something, thinking it was excessive peeping. Nothing wrong good bill of health. So I was determined to get to the bottom of this. I went out with the dogs, after a few days, a very cold winter day, I noticed that Mackey was done very quickly, and ready to go in. Her mistake was she squatted to peep close to the stairs to get back in the house.....NO YELLOW SNOW. She had been squatting but not peeing and then coming in the house all casual like, until no one was paying attention, and peeing under the dining room table. It was holiday season so I was in that room a lot. I have never or ever had a problem like this since. That girl was too smart and funny. Most of our dog stories are about her and the large Shepard she had total control of.
My wife and I are high school teachers and school is starting full time here in the next two weeks. We've always wanted a Boston and our 8 year old is finally at the right age to help. Our biggest fear is not being able to potty train and crate train the puppy quick enough. We know we'll have to hire a dog walker, but we're just concerned this might be too rushed, but the puppy we want is available just this week. The breeder says they start potty training at 6 weeks. The puppy is 10 weeks old this week. We're just scared we're not gonna be able to train the pup up for our hectic teaching lives and all consistency will fly out the window. Advice? Great channel and community, thanks!
#4 - ‘Positive R.’....When our BT comes back inside I enjoy getting her all excited by saying “GO TELL MOMMY YOU WENT POTTY!!” She goes NUTS running in circles around the house all excited that she did something good. BTW, I once read, ‘Dogs know Human language, you need to learn Dog language.’ When your dog shows signs he/she wants to go potty (walking around sniffing or sitting by the door) it’s their way of talking to you. Learn their language. 😁
I need some advice ASAP ...I'm bringing home a 7 week old BT baby soon and I'm not sure exactly how to handle the sleeping at night thing !! How do I cut down on the night time crying , barking etc those first few nights? Should I put the crate in my room or another room, should I put her in bed with us, and how do I get any sleep while my sweetheart baby is breaking my heart with all the crying etc? Do I take her out every hour or two ? How long will it take for her to sleep longer at night? How do I get her to sleep at all the first couple of nights. I'm so excited about having her in my life but worried I won't be able to sleep at all if she's so pitifully crying. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!
I have a two year old rescue Boston. He is almost there...I have been leaving him out of his crate at night as of late and the part he has always had issues with is the first in the morning going out to go do his business. I don't think he was ever housetrained and I have been following all these steps. At first I would leave him in his crate at night and he never goes there but as I said I have been leaving him out lately at night and he always has an accident in the morning. I guess my question is what time or how long should I wait before letting him out in the morning? I can wake up earlier to do so I was just wondering how long he can hold it etc. How many hours? Fyi I do take him out right before he goes to sleep.
Where should I look to buy a Boston Terrier? I search Google and see what appears to be AKC type puppies. Is this a good avenue to pursue? Where did you get Bella?
Do you have a video of potty training a 8 week old boston? I can’t take mines out yet because of the required vaccines. Ive been using training pads for a week now, is there a better way to potty train them. Thanks
Thanks for the always great advice & not boring your audience with what you had for breakfast & other what not!! Do you recommend a certain type of halter or collar?
Any recommendations on how to transition from every hour to a regular routine like yours when you have to go back to work? I am working from home for at least the next 8 months or so and want to make sure I’m consistent with my new puppies.
I would start trying to put your Boston on your work schedule. So if you know you'll be leaving for work at 6:30 take your Boston out as if you are leaving for work. Then again at lunch time if you come home for lunch. Basically start acting like you're at work weeks before you go back so your Boston can get used to that schedule.
Hi there. We have a new boston puppy, female. We named her Shiloh. Do we put a leash on her before taking her put the door...or do we pick her up and take her to the potty area? We feel , how dies she correlate the door...to going outside?
I am not sure I’ll follow up in a timely manner but, I want to train the Boston’s and our Frenchton to use a inside toilet. I’d also like to teach them to do more for themselves: open and shut doors, picking up and putting away their toys, communicating more clearly for their needs, and to listen at prompts to do simple things. One of our Boston’s stalls, not exactly sure why, when prompted to do things. Also , I’d like to teach them not to bark needlessly- like to come back inside from their secured dog yard after 22 seconds…with a bark to alert me and every 30 secs or so she will bark as a prompt to me. It doesn’t bother me thst she is giving her little alert to come in. It’s that I don’t want her to repeat her demand so frequently. Re: housebreaking: they are very easy to potty train as is our frenchton and our chewie had a short prior when she had more accidents. But now no problem. The Boston’s absolutely need consistently: our notions are in a schedule they know and live by. It can switch up depending on the weather but overall they know where and when to do what. Got to give credit to my rn mother- nurses are disciplined Tim structures and no nonsense on and off the clock. Anyway, regarding the treats to go outside. Yes my Boston will walk me ne up at 2 am to get s cookie to go outside and will stand by the door rather then urinating etc just to get the cookie. Sometimes she does it se we times a night. Mostly they don’t abuse it though.
my boston is a year and 4 months and she still not fully potty train and i crate train her. i think it depends on the boston. my older boston learned fully in a year
Thank you so much for this video! I was just about to request that you put a video on about potty training because I’m having trouble. I know now why I’m having difficulty. And, I will try some of your tips and hopefully this will help with the puppy training process!
Do you have a Boston Terrier health concern? You can talk to a vet 24/7. If you need advice now visit Boston Terrier Society's Ask A Veterinarian Tab... www.bostonterriersociety.com/ask-a-veterinarian/
My now 7 yo Boston was bell trained, as my pug was before him. It worked rather well for both dogs. However, he no longer uses the bell. If he needs to go out, he stands by the back door and waits and waits until I feel him staring at the back of my head. At night, he lets me sleep for a good 6-7 hour stretch before I feel him pawing at my face. He still has his "accidents", but I don't give him too hard a time, because I can see that look of guilt on his face when he peed on the floor.
How many weeks on average does it take to totally potty train a Boston puppy? I am going on a month and he still is having accidents. I think I’m not being as consistent as I should be and not watching him like a hawk. We were doing really well until my mom came to visit with her elderly dog that went around marking and peeing on things. I may need to get one of those black lights to find hidden pee pee spots and thoroughly clean with a powerful pee destroyer. .
So my struggle is that my puppy is not completely vaccinated yet. I live near woods and dog owners bring their dogs out there to potty and there are wild animals that roam there as well. So for his safety, I am potty training indoors on puppy pads until he completes his vaccinations. I just got my puppy today and he has pooped 3 times in his kennel and has torn up the puppy pads. Finding his cues is a challenge because all he has done today is sleep 😂. Any advice on indoor potty training since I can’t bring him outside yet?
Our female knows to go on indoor pads. We are having trouble teaching her to say she wants to go out (basically get our attention and go to the door outside)
Indoor pads reinforce going inside the house so I'd avoid using them at all cost. As for signs, one of ours will come get my attention but she does that all the time so it took a bit to pick up on what she was trying to tell me/us. If she wants attention, she'll come by my office chair (where I spend most of my time). At first, I thought she just wanted attention but I started paying attention to what she was doing. If she wanted attention, she'd let me pick her up or pet her but if she wanted something else, she'd back away from me trying to pet her (or pick her up). Took a couple days but I discovered that she needed (or wanted) to go out if she backed away from me. She did this at a really early age (3 months or so). Our youngest one (3.5 months now) hasn't given any clues other than running off to a different area of the house. We take her out any time she wakes from a nap, plays a bit, eats, or drinks anything. Early on, that works out to about every 20-30 minutes but if the never (or rarely) go in the house, they simply don't associate peeing or pooping in the house (it simply belongs outside).
We got Boston Terrier 3 months old puppy in December, it is too cold outside if we try to take her for potty, she was shivering not going potty, I have put Potty pads in a corner to get adjusted, she goes there once a while but most of the times it goes all around the home it is getting very difficult training, since we are not taking out we never know when she will go potty all around the home. I keep trying to tell her go potty here by taking to potty pads, but she is not following, and these she even eating potty pads. any suggestion greatly appreciated
My 8 yr old Boston loves going outside except when it's real cold and windy. He wakes me to go out and potty.Hes very smart and also does it just for a treat....He makes the rules and I follow his lead.?
I have a Boston. I take him out constantly. I have him trained him and he will poop outside. However, he will let me know if he has to pee and I take him out, he will pee but he still pees in house. I don't know how to stop this. My first Boston was easier to train and he peed and pooped outside. Any suggestions would be helpful because I do what was mentioned here. Thanks, Randy
I’ve been trying to train my Boston terrier to go outside and she refuses to use the bathroom and I take her out often I have two other dogs any tips I should know about please let me know
So We have tried all 5 of these tips with my 8 month old. I can’t do every hour, but all other tips we do consistently. I can’t see clues at all. Any other suggestions?
My boston as a pup raised only inside on potty pads im having a hard time she will pee but wont poo outside any movement out or loud noise she freaks out.....she didnt know what the ground was she would coward down and not go of course it was winter
Thanks. Honestly it was something Bella did naturally. It just happens to be one of her cues. I’m sure you can train your Boston to do this through repetition, but there is nothing we did to make her do this.
My 11 week old Boston does a good job at notifying that he needs to go #2, however, as far as going pee, we are still struggling in this area. It is also freezing outside and his walk from the crate to outside is pretty far. I have been carrying him to his potty spot because if I don't he either will go in the house on the way or I have to drag him on a leash and take a few steps and I don't want to do that because it instils fear. I am worried that by always carrying him, he is not going to catch on to it. Any advice?
Thanks for doing the video, I appreciate it. I already have a Tibetan Terrier, and I'm picking up my new Boston puppy at the end of the week. I have a dog door installed in the sliding door, and my other dog uses it all the time when he has to go to the bathroom, among other things. Can you tell me how you would change, or if you would change, the potty training method you described in your video? I like the idea of using a leash, but obviously training him to use the dog door at the same time complicates that. Additionally, I can't just close off the dog door because my other dog uses it. Thoughts? Thanks!
When Emily and I lived in an apartment it meant going up and down often...you will get some exercise lol. We only used puppy pads when we would leave for the day. Does that help?
If they have an accident in the home what do U recommend as good cleaning products to use. How about recommended pee pads too. Are Boston Terriers considered a brachycephalic breed? If so can you do a video about it Donnie! I was a previous subscriber to your page on another account and I enjoy your page.
So basically we’re being trained. 🙂 I’ve learned my little guy’s cues and he has very few accidents, but he takes no initiative to go to the door when he has to go (he’s 16 weeks old now).
My sweet wonderful puppy pees on outside then pees inside as soon as we got in. We stay out between 15-30minutes each time. She also doesnt like to per on the pads we have indoors but right beside them
Then my Boston terrier is broken. 😂 I got her when she was almost 7 months old. Immediately tried to teach her to go outside. She never knew what grass was before me apparently and was petrified of everything outside. Cars, other dogs, loud noises, people talking, she tucks tail and cowers. I would walk her around or as the weather allowed and she still would not relax. She will literally hold her pee and poop until we get away from the commotion which is inside. As soon as we would walk in she would drop her bottom. Of course I clapped my hands to discourage this and cleaned the area. I crate trained her, she will pee on her bedding. I had a timer on my phone for every 15 minutes we would keep trying. This is difficult going up and down three stories all day long and half the night. We persisted. The most I’ve been able to get my Boston to do is mostly avoid going to the bathroom on the carpet (she still messes up and has accidents) now goes on the tile in our kitchen but flat out will not relax enough to go outside. She’s three years old now and it’s highly frustrating that she’s not made any progress. After trying for almost two years I’ve pretty much have given up.
I just got a Male Boston named him Bentley. How much time should he spend in his Kennel? I’m a recent widow and I can not get anything done around the house because he’s not house trained yet. So I put him in his kennel.
I personally think as long as the kennel is comfortable you can do it for an hour or so when you are home. Or I think the best option would be to section off a portion of the house to make their "Quite Place" this is the spot you can put them during the day so you can get things done and they can play or rest...similar to what you would do for a toddler during nap time.
Our Boston (8-month old female) is very similar. At first, she threw up a whole bunch because she wasn't chewing her food. We soon discovered that it was due to teething, so we began to pour a little boiled water in the metal bowl to soften the kibble. That has worked pretty well ever since. The strange thing is that she only chews her hard, dry kibble if it comes in small amounts like during training, but it seems that she's grown accustomed to having a warmed, softened meal each and every time. We pamper her, so it's the norm for now. Another issue is preferred dog food. She doesn't like the taste of her Science Diet as much, but we like it because she only poops 2-3 times per day and the poop is of good consistency. She enjoys the taste of Iams more, but then she has to poop 3-4 times per day and the consistency is too soft & difficult to clean. Hope this helps!
I have a new 8 week old puppy and it is very cold here. She starts to shiver as soon as she is outside even with a jacket on. She doesn't want to stay out long enough to go potty. What can I do to get her to stay out long enough to go?
Oh my goodness, do you work from home because there’s no way I can take my BT out to potty 6x/day and I don’t mean this disrespectfully because I really want to learn how to house train my 12-week-old male puppy. I’m a nurse and now I’m wondering if I will be a good mom to this little guy.
Hi, I’m going to get a BT from a rescue. He is 1 year old. What would be your tip on getting him potty trained? We live in a house with a backyard. Thanks
As I recall with Bella we did puppy pads in her cage at that age. You could get up when you hear them wine to go potty. But I think this would be a really good question for the Boston Terrier Society Facebook Group if you are on Facebook...facebook.com/groups/bostonterriersociety
I haven’t yet. It I may need to bring someone on the channel with some experience. Emily and I crate trained Bella years ago but we haven’t done any crate training in years. I’ll put this on my list to create for you.
Do you have crate training video? Do you have what to shop for and Boston Terrier, such as food, bedding etc? Getting a pup next month! First time with this cute breed.
My Boston, Gracie, is 6 months old. On the weekends, when I’m home with her I take her out every hour to hour and a half. I still can’t pick up on a cue for when she has to go outside to potty. She doesn’t go by the door or bark. She is constantly sniffing the floor so it’s hard to tell when she means it. She’s fine during the week when she’s kenneled and the dog walker is taking her out after four hours.
My two 4 month old puppies like to go outside and play and then they come inside and potty in the house. How do I train them to do it outside when they are out there?
That is a good question. I don't have an answer to. When Bella was younger as I recall we had pads down for her in her kennel...I think this would be a good question in the Boston Terrier Society Facebook Group if you are a member facebook.com/groups/bostonterriersociety

So easy to house train. My Boston was potty trained and ringing a bell to go out at 12 weeks. So true about consistency
That’s impressive. How did you teach your Boston to ring a bell?

Agreed
Our Boston pup sleeps through the night at 11 weeks. We always take him out as soon as he wakes up or when we take him out of his crate.
Yeah that’s important, Ours would always pee right as he got out of the crate.
We did all things you mention with Frankie, who is now 22 months old and they worked like a charm. We also used a crate early on and kept using it for quite some time. I've never thought about using a leash in my yard to make them go potty in a specific area. Thanks for the idea! I'll get my puppy a leash soon :D
By the way, what type of good would you recommend on a puppy or just a general Boston terrier? Kibble? Store bought or special? Raw diet, good or bad? Thoughts on it? How to know if a Boston is allergic to their food? So much to cover on this topic haha
I personally use kible. Here is an article I wrote that can help. www.bostonterriersociety.com/food-needs-of-a-boston-terrier/
Just know when it comes to food each Boston is different. What works for my Bella may not work for your Boston. It is a trial and error kind of thing.
You dont need a leash, All call out words you train to the dogs ear.

The go potty tip is a good one,I've done this with my Boston's and pit bulls and after about a month they literally know exactly what I'm saying

So, on the money. My Boston was just like the steps you went through.
Would love idea's relating to apartment 'potty' training ....
Just got my Boston yesterday 😀😀😀
I can’t wait to get one
Thank you so much 😊
Our Boston learned to potty out in one day. She has a bell she rings. She has a vocabulary of about 28 words ❤️
Can you do a video on when to start leash training and when to walk your Boston?
Our Boston terrier was just bought last week
Congratulations
Thanks for this vedio
Can you tell me more about Boston and elkhound mix
Winter in Idaho was tough on both of us. Once weather changed I left the door cracked. Now if she has to go, winter is arriving. She just stands next to the door.
My partner and I have a 2 year old that we got as a puppy and we just rescued a 3 year old female that was used as a breeder. She is just so sweet and affectionate and we just love her. Problem is that she's a little harder to potty train. Do you think she could have some trauma from being a breeder. I don't think who ever had her let her inside their house or showed her any loving but we just love her and she's with us now and she's loved and safe.
Its all about from puppy pad to training to go to a location. Its a planned to make your game to get a destination. Its work but not hard.
i’m getting a boston terrier today and this is my first time potty training a dog so wish me luck :)
Good luck!
Updates?
😊
I love Bostons
😊
Thank you for the tips
Very helpful! Thank you
I need some advice ASAP ...I'm bringing home a 7 week old BT baby soon and I'm not sure exactly how to handle the sleeping at night thing !!
At what age can I expect to have my Boston terrier trained if I follow your recommendations?
What if you had gotten a puppy doing the winter months. How would I potty train 😊
Do you have a video of potty training a 8 week old boston?
I can’t take mines out yet
because of the required vaccines. Ive been using training pads for a week now, is there a better way to potty train them. Thanks
Hi Donny, i just got my new BT and these vids are so helpful ( also this probably isnt important but his name is Sox)
Donnie: "Welcome to the Boston Terrier RUclips cha..."
Bella: "Aight, I'mma head out..." 😂😂
I am getting a small 8-week puppy. Is it safe to start outdoor potty training right away and how to do it at night?
Thanks for the always great advice & not boring your audience with what you had for breakfast & other what not!! Do you recommend a certain type of halter or collar?
Lol thanks but if you must know today was pancakes 🥞, eggs 🍳, and sausage. Lol
You are the very best! Thank you for all that you share Donnie. I’m now looking for a great breeder in Massachusetts.
Hi there. We have a new boston puppy, female. We named her Shiloh.
Do we put a leash on her before taking her put the door...or do we pick her up and take her to the potty area?
We feel , how dies she correlate the door...to going outside?
I'm training a 9 week old right now. Doing great. A say out, and we go out and she pees. Then I say poop amd she goes poop lol she is so smart
Mostly they don’t abuse it though.
my boston is a year and 4 months and she still not fully potty train and i crate train her. i think it depends on the boston. my older boston learned fully in a year
Thanks for sharing! 😊
How about paper training? We live in a condo and take our dog outside but in bad weather or whatever, it would be nice to have that as a back up.
😊
@@madweazl Thank you that is very helpful advice!
What about using those pads inside the apartment? Would it be the same type of training?
I think it would be similar. We didn't specifically train Bella that way but I think it would work all the same
My 8 yr old Boston loves going outside except when it's real cold and windy. He wakes me to go out and potty.Hes very smart and also does it just for a treat....He makes the rules and I follow his lead.?
Thanks!
You're Welcome
Recently rescued a 2 year old Boston Terrier, she is very stubborn. How can I break the very stubborn habit?
Awesome video! Can I ask, how did you get Bella to sit by the door to let her tell you that she has to go?
Thanks. Honestly it was something Bella did naturally. It just happens to be one of her cues. I’m sure you can train your Boston to do this through repetition, but there is nothing we did to make her do this.
@@BostonTerrierSociety same with our Kirby!
Thoughts? Thanks!
How do you handle potty time with a puppy if you live in an apartment building and have to take stairs/elevator to get outside?
When Emily and I lived in an apartment it meant going up and down often...you will get some exercise lol. We only used puppy pads when we would leave for the day. Does that help?
If they have an accident in the home what do U recommend as good cleaning products to use. How about recommended pee pads too. Are Boston Terriers considered a brachycephalic breed? If so can you do a video about it Donnie! I was a previous subscriber to your page on another account and I enjoy your page.
So basically we’re being trained. 🙂
I’ve learned my little guy’s cues and he has very few accidents, but he takes no initiative to go to the door when he has to go (he’s 16 weeks old now).
😊
Thanks for sharing! 😊
We have a 11 week old Boston but it keeps going potty in his kennel at night we take him out every 3 hours that what the vet said so any tips?
I just got a Male Boston named him Bentley. How much time should he spend in his Kennel? I’m a recent widow and I can not get anything done around the house because he’s not house trained yet. So I put him in his kennel.
I personally think as long as the kennel is comfortable you can do it for an hour or so when you are home. Or I think the best option would be to section off a portion of the house to make their "Quite Place" this is the spot you can put them during the day so you can get things done and they can play or rest...similar to what you would do for a toddler during nap time.
What is the best food for Boston Terriers! Mine don’t seem to like dry food. She’s 8 years old. I have been feeding her Nutro lamb and rice.
If I have a large backyard, I dont need to leash him do I?
You look like a super healthy Gary Barlow
Hi, I’m going to get a BT from a rescue. He is 1 year old. What would be your tip on getting him potty trained? We live in a house with a backyard. Thanks
I hope this helps. Congrats on your new fur baby!

What about a new puppy do I need to set an alarm to take it out to potty every three hours since he will be three months the 11th this month.
As I recall with Bella we did puppy pads in her cage at that age. You could get up when you hear them wine to go potty. But I think this would be a really good question for the Boston Terrier Society Facebook Group if you are on Facebook...facebook.com/groups/bostonterriersociety
I don’t know if you have covered this but have you crate trained Bella ?
Thanks for the video. How much would you say a Boston terrier can hold throughout the night?
That is a good question. I don't have an answer to. When Bella was younger as I recall we had pads down for her in her kennel...I think this would be a good question in the Boston Terrier Society Facebook Group if you are a member facebook.com/groups/bostonterriersociety
Would you recommend pee pads? If so, where should we put the pee pads?
Can I still train my Boston terrier at 6 months?
Hi Im a retired woman alone would love the company of. Boston Terrier puppy..Im very concerened with the proper location or who I can trust that Im Not getting a puppy from an unreliable source.. I can't afford to spend thousands of dollars but want a reputable breeder?? Can you help recommend a safe source? Thank you kindly...Joanne.
I don't have a breeder recommendation. But here is a video where I point people when they start their search for a Boston Terrier puppy...ruclips.net/video/hWw_XgRuMW4/видео.html
