    This one's a bit of an older recording, but still a fun one at that after filming the '55 Caddy not too long ago. I'm going to be making some sort of update driving vlog sometime soon just to go over some stuff that's been on my mind with RUclips recently. But for now, enjoy :D

    @ 3:30 see the two push switches in the door jamb; one was for the doam light (pretty standard stuff), but the second one was for a solenoid in the seat back that unlocked the seat when the door was open, to allow ingress and egress for rear seat passengers.

    Sensational 1974 Cadillac! The 1974-76 cars look better than the 1971-73 models, at least I think so. Also, I don't remember seeing any Cadillac having silver-faced gauges, before seeing this video. That must have been rare!

      Kevin Woodward:
      Stainless Steel for the speedo cluster cover was a I year only for the 74-76 versions. My guess is, the GM bean-counters figured black paint was cheaper than a Stainless Stamping....black paint and print was after 74. Other little subtle 1974 differences from the 1975-1976s interior.
      I've had my 1974 speed cluster apart to remedy a trip meter that did not work and fix the noisy speedo...along with cleaning and lubing cable to rid the wonky speedo needle.
      1974 fenders, and turn signal buckets are very peculiar (1 year only)....it's why back in the day (even when they were Late Model)and got in minor fender benders, body shops would just retro-fit the more common 75-76 clip with rectangle lamps....because new OEM and good used ones were difficult to acquire from the Dealer or Specialty Salvage yard..

    Besides having an 8 track player you forgot to mention the huge trunk that has an auto closing feature, plus the trunk release button in the glove compartment. My 74' Coupe I inherited from my Grandad will once again be on the road and never sold. Nothing like floating in a boat while driving down the road, plus the back seat is more than spacious for extra curricular activities. Watching this video is making me want to cruise my land yacht sooner than later, ✌️.

    I had a sedan, and getting into and sitting down always reminded me of sitting down on a nice leather couch, not a car. Had a 472 that would get upto 13 MPG if tuned. It was one of the best cars I owned in my life. Not a lot of plastic like today's cars, a lot of leather and metal.

      @@243tarqui The '71 to '76s were interesting. The interior touches were neat, even the designs on the dashboard and doors. For instance the '73 Eldorado had two rosettes on the dashboard and the '74 Eldorado had twenty. The Coupe de Ville and Calais had their own patterns. The '70s were truly a different time.

    That’s a 472 dude, 501 was the engine code. The 500 cubic inch engine would’ve come in 1975 for the devilles, the Eldorado has it since 1970

    • @243tarqui
      @243tarqui 6 лет назад

      1972-1974 could run unleaded but had no cat. They put one on in 75 and had to bump it up to 500 cu. in to make up for the power loss.

    • @gages9061
      @gages9061 6 лет назад

      saluki 83 Cadillac was planning for unleaded fuel in the mid to late 60’s. The 472/500 motors were built with a high nickel content so they could handle the crap gas. The 500 always made more power than the 472 and due to the compression drops of 71 & 74 and the addition of economy camshaft, economy timing, and leaned out carb they didn’t have a choice but to put the 500 in the 75-76 cars. When the catalytic converter came into play they needed to make a change in displacement.

    • @garydalrymple7531
      @garydalrymple7531 6 лет назад

      Yes your correct the 472 was used until 1975 Then 501 through 1976 . 1977 signified a downsize of the car and it used the 425 .

      @@johanbrand8601 73 Olds and Impala models had them. Awful early, any car that had them removed the shoulder seat belt and relied purely on a lap belt. That probably sounds stupid now and it was but this was the 70s, more than half the population still didn't buckle up so they tried selling it as more of a convenience feature. Even so, it was expensive for the time and few were sold with that system.

      G.M. only sold 10,000 units (I think that's across all makes) with this early Air Bag system. BTW, two 73 Impalas with the feature in 1992 were crash tested (one was found in a scrapyard) and the air bags still deployed. I can't say if it'll be the same nearly 28 years later but it's good to know. I also see this Cadillac still has the shoulder belts unlike what I previously stated, maybe not all G.M. cars with the bags removed the shoulder belts or maybe the idea to remove them was an early one that got into the "Introducing Air Bags" video I watched from the time period.

    There's no such animal as a Cadillac 501. That's not the engine size, it's an engine model number. The engine size is on the same sticker, located just below where it says GM 501. It would read 472 CU. IN.

    • @PetePapadakos
      @PetePapadakos 6 лет назад +2

      rogermurph101, 501, no, but there was indeed a 500. The 500 cubic inch (8.2 litre) engine, the day's largest ever production V8, was introduced in 1970 for the Eldorado, and in 1975 it replaced the 472 (7.7 litre) as the standard engine for all Cadillac models except Seville - with a fuel injection option available in '76 - until it was replaced in '77 by the 425 (7.0 litre). My Dad bought an Eldorado in '76 with a 500 and loved it. Then in '78 when he heard they were about to be downsized, he got a new Eldorado Biarritz that he kept for over 10 years. It was a real beauty - white with white leather - but I remember, at first he was disappointed to find they now had a "small" engine (?!)
      Ah, those were the days... 😏

      Doug Sale:
      Internal regulator and brushes are easy to replace.
      Pull the pulley off, remove (count #4 5/16/8 mm bolts),insert paper-clip,16 penny nail in slot to retract brushes...then replace whatever you want with 1/4 and sometimes 3/8 head socket.
      At Pick N Pull,etc.....it's basically free to pocket a New old-school GM alternator regulator....about $5.00-$10.00 online....or if you wanna get spendy...$20.00 bucks will get you new bearings,diode pack,regulator and brush assembly. Takes about 5 minutes to overhaul an old-school GM alternator once cleaned-up.
      No need to waste money on a rebuilt or new unit.

    472 ci engine! Imperial, Lincoln and Cadillac were all pretty competitive as far as what they were; luxury cars but I think that the 1974-'75 Imperial LeBaron coupe was styled nicer! And by the way, they were wheel covers! Hubcaps only covered the hubs and lugs, with the rest of the wheel exposed! They call them 'dog dish hubcaps'!
