- Maintenance is the key to keeping your pool clean. Today I am inspecting and diagnosing why my pool UV light is no longer working.

Side note- This DIY is not intended as instructional content. It is merely entertainment for you to do what you wish with. I’m just a guy with an awesome beard playing in his yard.
Good thing I always find videos on how to do repairs for pool equipment. Thanks I’m doing this repair tomorrow for one of my clients.
Good luck! Thanks for watching.
On my way to do my first one, damn I love RUclips University. Thank you, Professor!!
Right on. Good luck with the install.
Thanks for the video. The Manuel does list a life of 2 1/2 years though, quite difftcrom the 6mos. to 1 year you mentioned. I did see that the quartz tube is supposed to be maintenanced every 6 months.
I may have misread that. Thanks for noticing!
I think the 6 months to a year would be accurate for Florida residents and other southern states where the pools never get closed but up in New England where pools are closed for half the year if not longer, the 2.5 years makes sense in comparison.
@@jodiadams9404 That does make sense. I'm in Arizona where pools run all year long.
Thanks for the video! I watched my pool guy do this a couple years ago leading me to believe that that I could do it the next time. Your video was a great reminder of the steps... and also the checks on the wiring and balast. thanks!!
Awesome. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the video! Just took mine apart to see if it was dirty, followed the procedure to clean it and my wife saw the bulbs and said 'that's broken'. Your video makes it clear. Since I had just taken mine apart I noticed the clip step missed :)
That’s great. Glad you were able to take it on.
Thank so much, very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. I noticed my UVs out tonight and found your video while doing research. Thanks for showing how to verify electrical current as well as bulb replacement. My system went live about 3 years ago so I'm guessing the bulbs burning out shouldn't be a surprise.
Yeah, they have a pretty short life expectancy. Hope you get it running and back to pool time.
Great! Thank you.
You are welcome!
Very helpful. The "O" rings on the bulbs were tight, kept grabbing fingertip of nitrile glove as I tried to roll it up. I used small flathead screwdriver to get the o-ring to roll up on the insulator. I also did NOT get a new base ring, my old one was rather dry and UV damaged (surprise) but was able to get it off with some liquid detergent and water to lubricate....
Nice work.
Great Video, extremely helpful.👍
Getting ready to tackle this myself.
Thanks so much! 😃
Good luck! Thanks for watching.
Thanks!
Wow thank you!
Fixing to order my new bulbs now. Hope mine is as easy
Best of luck, you've got it!
Thanks for the video! This helps
Awesome.
Thanks for making this very easy to understand!
Glad it helped!
Very informative.
Glad you think so!
So thankful for this video.
😊
Thank you for the concise tutorial!
You bet. Thanks!
Great video and great detail I will be doing this project next week and your video will be of great help
Glad it helped
Great video. Thanks for the walk thru!
Happy it helped!
Thank you so much for this video! I knew this wasn't rocket science, but having a video tutorial always increases my level of confidence. Do you really keep two extra bulbs on hand at any given time? I was surprised to see that these bulbs go for nearly $400 for the pair!
I know it seems weird, but I'm a Realtor and see problems with houses all the time due to lack of maintenance. This has taught me to be very proactive and I tend to have consumables on hand. That being said I haven't reordered yet. When I bought this set they were under $200. $400 is a bit much to have an "extra" these days. Glad the video was helpful.
Great video - I did catch the missed ring - but that part was not so clear as to where exactly that goes. At least to me.
Glad it helped!
You just saved me some $$$$. Thanks.
Great to hear!
This channel is going places
Thanks.
super cool
Thank You.
Great video! Is that an ozone system I see? Do you have a video about those? I have the same UV light and would like to add an ozonator but I'm not sure where to start
It is an ozonator. They are an easy addition. Once power is set you connect the vacuum line to the from of the pump housing (where the vacuum is built to pull water in) and adjust the regulator at the housing.
Worked great! 👍
Great to hear!
Hi! Thanks so much for this video. We have to replace our bulbs this year!
By chance have you replaced the quartz tube before as well? If so, would love a video too!
I have not yet.
@ 5:25 Paramount wants the large glass tube removed, checked and cleaned with tub and tile cleaner when servicing unit.
Thats a really good catch. I overlooked that since I had done that the last time I had to replace the bulbs. That coupled with filming and it completely left my head. Thanks for the reminder. 😀
I saw that 😊
Good catch! I get going a little to fast sometimes.
Hey buddy. Can u put a video up when you change your Clear 03 Ozone bulb
Will do.
@@DrivingForwardBuilds thanks for videos!
There's one corollary to buying bulbs in advance. Remember where you put them! I bought a replacement bulb for my previous pool UV light and can't for the life of me find it. Luckily, that thing self-destructed and I bought this Paramount unit instead. By the way, do you winterize yours in Phoenix, or just ignore it?
We don't winterize here. Most of our plumbing is outside and we only experience low 30* temps for a brief moment on the rare occasion. The pool water stays in the mid 50's to low 60's in the winter and the pump is running which keeps anything from freezing.
Do you have a preferred vendor for the replacement lamps?
I'm not sure I would say "preferred" but I have ordered my last few bulbs from www.paramountpoolstore.com/ultra-uv-uv2-lamp-replacement-kit-2-lamp/ They have arrived safely and worked.
Is that an Ozanator in the background? How do you like it?
It is. We really haven’t noticed a difference with it in. Other than aerating my pump.
Six months to a year replacement? LOL. That's $250 to $550 A YEAR for a two bulb unit??!! My Ultra UV2 tank started leaking out of the top GLUED-IN fitting after less than 3 years.
I didn’t say that was right, just that it was recommended. The bulb efficacy wanes pretty quickly.
How do you verify that the ballast is working before checking the bulbs?
Actually I’ve replaced the ballast in the past. I verify incoming voltage to the ballast. Then check continuity of the ballast if incoming voltage is good. It will have resistance or be an open circuit 99% of the time. If there is no voltage you would then check your pressure switch. It’s in line before the ballast.
@Driving Forward Builds thanks for prompt response. I do have voltage from the pressure switch. So if i understood you correctly, if the ballast is good, then i shouldn't have continuity between the nutral (white) and any of the yellow, red, or blue cables.
@@hanyabouelseaoud2755 if I recall correctly you’re checking on the bulb side of the ballast. Power off and preferably disconnected. You want resistance/continuity across each plug to the bulbs. Each one is a circuit. If there is an open circuit then it failed internally. What’s interesting is the instructions from Paramount say if there is power, the pressure switch is good and the bulbs aren’t damaged then replace the ballast. I was researching ballast and came across this way to test it.
Does anyone have a link to the UV lights?
These are the bulbs I use.. www.paramountpoolstore.com/ultra-uv-uv2-lamp-replacement-kit-2-lamp/
@@DrivingForwardBuilds thank you!
Replacing those bulbs at $200+ a pop every six months to a year is a damn joke. I'll just run mine until the ozone bulb dies and rip the unit out.
It’s certainly an expensive proposition.
using 90% less chlorine due to this UV system makes up for the bulb cost. but you do you bud.
