    This lure has been my go to for 25 years. Baitcasting with the light lure takes some practice. But, the sucker needs a powerful hook set. Only the baicaster has that powerful hookset necessary to get that fish successfully. This was awesome, thanks.

    Very interesting and informative. In the northeast surf, I fish the 9” and 12” sluggo for striped bass. I use a 1 to 5 oz rated spinning rod with 50 lb braid and and a van staal reel. No issues, have caught bass up to 25 lbs on the sluggo. Great lure.

    Very good tips! Thanks! Slug-go.. My favorite plastic for deeper Carolina rig here at The Rock. Also use slug-go with Owner center spring screwed into nose of bait then insert a small circle hook into front loop of spring. Very light rig this way, will hardly sink. Throw as darting top water or runs slightly under the surface depending on size/weight of circle hook. Almost needless when used this way. Use a donut shape bait keeper on the circle hook to keep hook from coming out of the spring loop. Spinning reel best for this method. 6# Nano-fil braid w 2' of 6# mono leader casts a mile for clear water. Word!

    Herb Reed fished tournaments around the north east in the 80’s and when I started fishing that bait he was poring them by hand! In 1991 we both qualified for the Federation National Championship. Herb finished 2nd, I won and qualified for the 1991 BASS Masters Classic with a Slug-go!

    Great video...I've been bass fishing in S. FL since 1968 and have been using both the 4" & 6" for about 30 years. Still use to this day while fishing tournaments or fun fishing.

    Great first thing in the morning because they're so versatile.

    I have used the Slug-go for decades, I put a nail weight up front inside the lure, using a 4/0 hook which comes in right before the 2 groves, then I put a glass rattle as close to the tail end as i can get it. It's my go to weed bait, also I like the #61 blue perch color.

    In addition to live bait, spoons and spinners, I owe a debt of gratitude to the Slug-go and Flying Lure for getting me into fishing as a kid. Both had their specific applications, but with the weedless capabilities of the slug-go, there were very few lures that could compete at the time for covering heavily weeded water.

    • @harleysmith3895
      @harleysmith3895 4 года назад

      unless the bail is poorly designed or broken, it cant happen.

    • @donhunter6404
      @donhunter6404 3 года назад +1

      He didn't say the bail could pop open. He said that you possibly could pop it open while fighting the fish. If you put pressure on the bail by hand accidentally it
      could overcome the pressure the line has against it and come open. I've done that before.

    I started fishing the Slug-go around '91-'93. What a killer bait. You can fish it slow on a dead fall on slack line, a medium twitch-twitch-twitch pause and let is sink a little. Or a fast walking the dog action over the top of grass beds. And any other type of retrieve that you can think of... The design has that injured bait fish action. The 2 issues with the Slug-go is the line twist you from fishing it all day, and they are not real durable. But with 1 simple trick/hack or whatever you call it is... Fish it on Screw-Lock hooks, and both of these issues go away. Either weighted or non weighted versions. Not many fish them weighted, but I used to use small trim nails to add weight to increase sink rate and not effect the action. Now I just use a weighted Screw-Lock hook. This is a great way to fish it over any type deep water drop-offs like creek channel, rock shelfs, docks especially in the summer time ... Also using a Screw-Lock hook on a Slug-go is the added usability / durability of the Slug-go. I've fished all day catching 10-15 or more fish and never have to change the bait. With a regular hook it's basically a one fish and done bait. Get expensive real quickly. Still the best soft jerk-bait made . Ark Shiner , Rainbow Trout, and Other I can't remember the name of color but close the the Ark Shiner..

    You didn’t mention the belly weighted hooks... I caught fish that way.. is that not a good option for fishing the slug go type baits ??? ... anyone have any suggestions on using this presentation?

    • @bassresource
      @bassresource  4 года назад

      You're right, I didn't mention any weight at all, except for small nail weights. The extremely slow fall rate is a primary benefit of this bait, so adding weight to it kinda defeats the purpose. That said, you can try a light belly weight hook to see if you can get a more gliding action to it. Might have to try that one out myself!
