my parents divorced when I was nine because my dad was a drug addict so I didn't get to see him very often but when I did see him he like subconsciously tried to impart as much wisdom as he could and if you boil down everything he ever tried to tell me it basically comes down to. This , "live in the moment because you can't change the past and future is out of your hands" and it's been pretty good advice definitely helps with stress. He has been to rehab and I got to spend two weeks with him recently he's doing very well and I'm super proud of him. He's been clean for almost a year. :3

My father passed away 6 years ago. I always respected him for wanting me to do so many things when I was in school. He got me a dog, and kept a great relationship with my mom even though they were divorced. When he passed away my dads side of my family took everything he owned and the only thing I got from his passing was a pillow he slept on and a dog that passed away 2 years later. But recently I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter what they take away from me or what they have of his. I have my memories of him and I love him tons. Happy Fathers Day Dad.

Man I wish I knew what you guys felt, my dad died when I was like 12 and when he was alive he was mostly abroad. The time we were together was really great but I never really got to spend like idk some proper dad-son time, he felt more like a close friend.
I wish I spent more time with him. His death affected a lot of people cause he was a very nice and extremely successful guy and practically gave more than half of his friends their jobs. His death literally tore my family apart to the point that it feels like I don't have one anymore, really the only thing keeping me going is my girlfriend and some of my friends. Many people, including me, really don't learn to appreciate family until it's gone.
Idk where I'm going with this, just wanted to share ig. If you read this far, I'm sorry for taking your time and thanks a lot for reading.

Ever since the release of The Last of Us 2 I’ve been seeing so many reviews talking about how bad of a character Joel was. How Ellie outshined every moment with them both and how Joel was a bad father. They labeled Joel as a “sad dad” which I looked up and it meant (from my memory) a depressed father who is outshined by their child in almost every scenario.
It breaks my heart to see these people absolutely shit on Joel. Joel is one of the best fathers not just in gaming, but in media.
When Ellie kills David and she’s hacking away at him with a machete, Joel runs into the room and immediately grasps her in his arms, calming her down and telling her he’s there for her. This was the moment where he first called her “baby girl” which was something he only called Sarah. That is such a powerful moment. That’s what being a dad is all about. No matter what, comforting and supporting your family.
Joel is my definitive dad.

I don't have a dad, cause the man who was given that title the day I was born decided to walk out on my family. It wasnt easy coping with that but video games helped. It is like you said, they kind of acted like that pseudo parental figure throughout my life while my badass mom supported me. When youre being all heartfelt and earnest you sound almost identically to John Krasinski, then with some subdued epiglottal flexin the Chris Pratt voice comes out and youre off on a roll.
I wanna nominate Kiryu Kazuma as a top tier depth daddy. While he might not officially be a dad, he is essentially Haruka's guardian and might as well be a dad to the kids at the orphanage. I also wanna reccomend Yakuza 6 as a fantastic game about parenting, especially being a dad. You even get to babysit your grandson for a bit!

kiryu's basically everyone's dad, always ready to put his life on the line for the people he holds dear AND always ready to teach life lessons after beating the shit out of some thick-skulled boys (daigo/rikiya/shinji) :D
Kiryu as an archetypal man really fits the narrative role of father well.
He also fits really well into Yakuza's overall themes of masculinity and paternity (most prominent in Y1).
It's what makes him such a good character despite not being all that complex.

This is why I lobe Jakey's videos so much. They're always so goofy and lighthearted with a script that flows smoother than a melting stick of butter down a hill, but when it comes to the real meaty bacon bits of the matter, the tone can shift so fluidly to allow for a more mellow mood and down time just so he can give you his little baby message.
Peeps like Mark Brown and Raycevick are fine and all, but they don't nearly come as close to the artisitc expertise that our Jake-boy does.
Jakey's videos are always simpler and easy to om-nom, which is why they're always fun to watch.
I'm probs just repeating myself here, but that just shows how much I love this channel.

My dad took care of me for my entire life. My birth mom made horrible choices in life, and my step mom betrayed my dad by the end of their relationship. For most of my life, my dad acted like both a dad and a mom. Even though I wish I had a mom and dad, I appreciate beyond words how much my dad took care of me. Hence why I think Dad’s don’t get enough appreciation.
My dad's amazing at all times, he taught me how to command troops from Cold War to Galactic Warfare, he's been there with me all the time.
And it's okay even if I fail a human extinction scenario, since he always manage to find me another similar mission to do.

My dad was never there for most of my childhood just some phone calls here and there because he refused to visit me bc my mom would be there too. But now that he's older and settled down his attitude, I realized that he's is a good dad after all, he tries to give me knowledge and teach me life lessons even if he has a depressing sense of humor and I'm happy to have my father figure with me these last few years.
