@Harlo86 I personally wouldn't go putting a th400 in that big of a truck, maybe an nv4500 or something similar, but the 400 would most likely explode with first use especially with the weight he puts on it. As for an engine, I think a 7.0 would work.

You might want to reconsider using a 1960 Ford f-600 dump truck for drivers ed!
If there is one thing I learned as a shade tree mechanic. If it's carbureted and won't start after 4 or 5 time, hold it to the floor. If it's fuel injected, holding it to the floor will shut off the injectors to clear the flood.

@@KDlGG not really, just need to learn how to drive an old truck without much power. The older it is the more you need to use the gearing and momentum to your advantage not rely just on the power. Watching it, Danny was trying to learn double clutching and the shifting which can be a handful in it's self then add hills, the weight, and not your rig. Ryno threw him right to the wolves on that first trip 🤣

That’s a tired gasser regardless of how you spin it, he’s doing low rpm low speed hauling heavy rock, gravel, wet dirt etc. sure can he survive with a gasser sure, but diesels don’t make peak power at high rpm like gas which is exactly what this truck would be at high speed, most of these f600s top speed was about 40-45 mph. All his low rpm work done would be perfect for the power curve of a diesel
@@ryanc8188 as I said to the other guy sure he can get away with a diesel but even from the start he’s said this thing struggles, and he’s not wrong it’s a tired gasser. Diesel is just easier because of all his low rpm work, it would make things so much easier for him

You should dig that pip deeper then dig a sediment pond type deal so it can pool up and collect the sediments. Kinda like a colvert. Idk how much work a buddy wants to do.

You need boat load of gravel but at least you'd almost never get issues with the road, unless you enjoy tinkering with the road

On the 2 speed rear you can float from low to high by letting off the gas just like floating the trans gears
Purchase a land plane grader, way better for fine grading. Box blade for moving dirt I will say having top and tilt on your 3pt is badass does make box blade perform much better.

I think most box blades you can hang like tractor weights on them. That's how my papa's was that I used to use to maintain our roads in and out of our property and to flatten out the arena my cousin and sister use to practice barrel racing in. There was a spot across the top of the box on each side of where you hook up at that you could hang I think 5 of the big weights a side. I think we only ever had 2 or 3 a side on it and we never took them off. Actually now that I'm thinking about it my papa had me tackle those weights on there because my cousin bounced them off like 3 times in a matter of like 2 hours and he was getting passed having to put them heavy ass weights back on the box lol.
time to get an upgrade to the work truck for that heavy stuff

Your PTO wasn't engaging fully for some reason. You dont necessarily have to be in gear when you engage your PTO, but we do it w/ our trucks. Keeps gears aligned when you do. Also, float gears in your truck, quit double clutching, and you'll avoid burning up the clutch as easy and take off in 1st when loaded, you wont have to ride the clutch as long, keeps wear and tear down.
I think it's time to do a Cummins swap or something. It wou like d be Kool to buy so e kinda 550 650 ect to do a frame swap with just throw the old cab and bed on something new and maybe a new hydraulic system and reinforce the bed. It would be a new truck basically and do everything you want it to do and more with out a complaint and honestly wouldn't cost very much at all.
Too bad you live in cali, you could find an old diesel dump truck with a better motor and a bigger bed for a pretty good deal here in idaho. Im a farmer and we got three of them just cause of good deals lol. I understand fully though about utilizing the f600 for sure.

Why isn't there any trees???All I see is brush.I think you buddy needs to stick with just an ATV,driving anything bigger is over his pay grade.You need a tractor steering knob on your steering wheel,makes turning alot easier. Weld yourself some 2 inch pipe about 2ft long to the side of your dump bed,then you can drop your shovel handle threw the pipe for holders.You want to carry at least 2 square shovels on the dump at all times.Tow rope???Fire extinguisher???Jumper cables???A cheap tool box with the basics.
Imagine paying insane Cali taxes and then having to spends days & thousands of dollars to maintain the public roads going to your house.
Do we know for sure this is a public road? Often times the back roads like this are private and were put in by someone trying to gain access to their property. Remember this is not the primary road to the ranch.
