Man my SCW started and finished early, finished in early April 1937. Guess I'll just hang tight till your game catches up. Also since I'm playing on latest version my 2 airwings did join in, so I got the 1st Doctrine unlock, went Dive Bombing.

Just leaving another comment, whoever buys HoI4 and doesnt follow your tutorial to learn to play it is a maniac. Should just be a play along in the game itself

Im on the 24th march 1937 but still haven't had the Spanish civil war trigger - if it happens incredibly late is it still worth me getting involved when i have my own wars looming?

I had them start half September one time, then reloaded and it happened end of October. I then decided to restart from june (36) and it happened half Juli. All in 1936, and it is supposed to happen in 1936.
The event is very random - one value it must obey is it cannot happen before Feb 16 (or 14). The longer it is going the more likely it will happen. An extremely small percentage can have it happen after 1946+

As I am going trough this: The game is updated to shreds, basically you can not follow along 100%. I had to ajust a lot, BUT I think this is great, because - I can learn some stuff an do some other stuff than you did and see the differences.
Thank you for your effort. You are a great teacher.

Thank you for your tutorial, I've tried to get into this game on my own for a couple of times but I got lost in the micro. I'm learning a bunch of new tips and tricks that are very helpful. Nationalist Spain is losing horribly in my playthrough, the war started early in feb '36 and I didn't get Rommel over there till a couple of months later. The Soviets beat me to it with quite a few tank divisions. I'm milking the Spanish civil war for as much experience as I can before recalling Rommel, but my playthrough is taking a different turn than yours.

Your comment about (49:00 )being penalised regardless which "ahead of time tech" you choose, the penalty could be minimised by waiting till the 29th day before selecting it.

Thank so much for your supportive comment. So far (26/Feb) I've got 12 episodes out, and will see if I have time to get at least 1 more done later today. Until then, I wish you good luck with your French campaign - you've certainly given yourself a challenge with that!

I noticed the first ace pilot and bomber wing we sent to Rommel in the start of the Spanish war, did not fly down to him. It does show on Romells icon that the air wings are assigned to him. Do you think Might it be a range issue? Almost like there isn't an airport for them to land to refuel to make it there.
Good vids by the way! just got this game, and you are making it very easy to learn how to play a rather complicated game.

I think one thing important that you have yet to touch on is combat width along with the different allowed combat widths of different terrain.
I know that may be later but leaving the original units as is and using your command points to build better units preparing for war may give better results.
Also one thing I have started doing in preparation stages is keeping the original cheaper to build infantry templates more as defense forces and building better templates/units as my assault/attack forces.
I also take new infantry and panzer units and like you do the air units I assign the new units all to the same general which does the training and as the units complete their training then transfer them to their permanent general.
This way I only have one unit taking attrition on the supplies and equipment.
Also at what time during the early pre war game do you normally switch from concentrating on all civilian factories and start concentrating on your military factory buildup?

    • @gameswithbrains
      @gameswithbrains  9 месяцев назад +6

Combat Width is HUGELY important - well noticed. I have purposefully left this aspect out of the series so far, because I will dedicate some time to it, once our campaign in Poland starts. My tutorial playthrough HAS to be a "less than perfect play" because I need to demonstrate certain things, and combat width is one such thing.
Regarding the varying infantry templates, depending on what they will be used for (defensive purposes etc) is a concept I will touch on in the future - you're absolutely right to make use of the benefits had by modifying them.
I really like your 3rd idea there, and use it myself. As we now (I'm on ep 12) we're sat on a big chunk of military XP, so it's fast approaching the time where I will show new players how to adopt this technique you have been using. Until now (the first 24 months or so) I felt it more important to have everyone training for the XP - but as we approach war, the equipment/attrition as you rightly highlighted will become the overriding factor.... I think I will incorporate this into ep13.
As to your last GREAT question, my opinion is to make a GRADUAL transition from Civ to Mil. I'm not someone who thinks "build Civ until such a date, or to such an amount, then switch". I know there are some people why play HOI4 over and over, and enjoy the mathematical challenge of coming up with the perfect Build Order, and every new update, they refine their BO - I'm not such a player. Because Civ Factories start at FULL capacity (ie 15 civ factories working on something is always the same - until we upgrade tech). Military factories are very different, in they start off very slowly, and slowly gain Production Efficiency/bonus over time. For this reason I find the gradual transition helpful in ramping up equipment in stockpile, despite it not being the way to get the most amount of factories in total.

I am where you are insofar as date and most everything else, but way off insofar as performance in Spain. Thought I would load your save to continue, but see it is broken. Will wait until word new are available (have notification set) before I continue. In the mean time, I have been looking at your other (non-campaign) vids and learning a great deal. When the road has cleared, a few more specialized focus vids would be a great assist in learning. The tutorial on width provided great insight. Thanks for your thought and energy. BTW, (as a retired uni professor) you have a great teaching style.

Thanks for the walkthrough. This really helped understand the reasoning behind choices more.
One question I have - is there a way to further slow down the Spanish Civil War?
It started really early in my game and I got there a bit late because of this. By 9th June 1937 the fighting only has about 2-3 provinces left along the entire east coastline.

Been watching your series and just wanted to say man with your intellect and your soothing voice I hope you are doing more with your talents than just making RUclips gaming videos. But I guess in this modern age that if you’re successful and profiting enough in this endeavor then kudos to you. Better than working for the man & whatever makes you happy. 😀

To my mind, the way trade and resources work in HOI4 is pseudo-representative of the control the state has over these. If industry is producing more than the state consumes, it's free to sell it to whoever wants it. The state is only concerned with its own demands and whether they can be met by its internal market or whether it has to source more from a foreign market. When a country is conquered and additional resources are secured, it's not the state that excavates/mines these, it's industry, and again, if there's an excess, this belongs to the company that brought those resources out of the ground, not the state. The state can't tell industry to sit on stockpiles, because it prevents those businesses from profiting. It's not the perfect representation, but as far as a game mechanic goes, it's actually quite smart.
