      @@gameswithbrains I second what Herr Marx said, and I also second your riposte. I don't think I have ever watched more than 2 or 3 tutorials in a series before on any game, yet here I am about to start episode 10 of yours. Very very well done, sir.

    Do you think you would be able to do a tutorial on the features in each of the dlcs at some point and how to use them?

    These tutorials are easily the most informative and interesting way to learn this complex game. I really was pretty much clueless as to the mechanics of the game in episode one....now I am almost ready to win the war!
    Fantastic series and deserves more subs.

    Best HOI4 tutorial that is out here! Thanks

    • @gameswithbrains

      Wow, thanks! It's important to me, that anyone who gave me a chance with these videos, such as yourself, comes away knowing how to play the game, but also gets something out of it along the way, a little bit of entertainment value or whatever they call it...
      I realise a tutorial series is a big ask, so it matters to me that it's worth it. The HOI4 game has gradually gotton more complicated over the years, bit by bit, and getting over that first hurdle is kinda tough, and I'd like to think any english speaking member of the audience would come away from my videos knowing how to play.
      I realise it won't be for everyone, those who prefer watching a ton of shorts edited to the max, will definitely not appreciate my little series!
      Cheers

    i got this game several years ago and found the learning curve to be brutal. but i played it through a couple of times without consulting any advice, teaching, or tip videos, and got destroyed even on the easy setting. i'm only up to video 9 of your series and i see that i was doing a million things wrong! lol. thanks so much for making this series. i wont lie, i'll probably have to watch these video over a couple more times before i'll be brave enough to try the game again, but i can clearly see that the game is awesome and will be worth the effort. i'm already making plans to try it as a less conventional country, but it makes sense from a tutorial perspective to use Germany for teaching purposes. thanks again.

    1:27:00 you talk about the factors influencing your Army Experience gain, namely Rommel fighting in Spain. But Rommel's volunteering does not affect your Army Experience gain. Only the training and your Chief of Army: Franz Halder. If Rommel would affect the score too, it would be much higher at that point.

    • @gameswithbrains
      @gameswithbrains  4 месяца назад +1

      You raise a **good point** I should have made more clearly...
      Army XP v. Generals XP
      1) OVERALL ARMY XP. This figure is always at the top of your screen in green (just after command power). It's primarily achieved (in early game) by having Chief of Army assigned - as you point out. There is a smaller amount of Army XP generated by having divisions in training. There is also an amount generated by having divisions fighting, which includes whichever General is sent to fight in Spain with the Panzers...
      You're right - It is NOT the sending of the General (Rommel or otherwise) that generates XP, but the actual fighting itself. The more divisions that fight, and the longer they fight = the more Army XP is generated. I'm not currently with my game, but there's a screen/page somewhere you can see a detailed breakdown of where Army XP is coming from.
      Army XP is required for 3 main things:
      - Creating/editing division template design
      - Unlocking Land doctrines
      - Customizing vehicle attributes in production menu
      2) Generals XP. Generals gain XP through fighting also. Germany (and most nations central to the war) start with some very good generals. This experience is entirely different from overall Army XP. One can think of this like "I have been commanding guys in battle for a long time, and I learn what works, what doesn't, so I get better and better."
      As generals gain XP (some players refer to this as grinding) they get both improved abilities in the 4 key areas ATTACK, DEFENCE, PLANNING & LOGISTICS. Every point here is worth 2.5% so a general with level 4 attack for eg gets a 10% boost for divisions he commands.
      Generals also gain TRAITS with prolonged fighting in certain conditions, places or with certain unit types. For example a general with mostly infantry will unlock the infantry leader trait.
      I realise you may have already known some (or all) of this, but at risk of not leaving anything out, I wanted to make a complete answer.
      note: this comment applies to ARMY only. The airforce / navy also has its own XP system that operates mostly in a similar way.

    I don't think the two air wings you assigned to Rommel in Spain are actually assigned or doing anything.

    • @TheJuicyfairy
      @TheJuicyfairy 8 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know if it's been said in another video, but for the air to do anything in Spain you need to activate "Waking the Tiger DLC." Otherwise it just sits in Germany, even if it is attached to Rommel. With that DLC active you can right click National Spain and send 2 volunteer airwings.

    Love your tutorials! They're very thorough and easy to follow. Though the game still feels like a beast to tackle, I'm less overwhelmed by it all so thank you.
    Also, I found it quite ironic that Rommel got wounded a few days after I set the execution of plans on Carefully! I guess the reckless trait makes Carefull not so carefull :)

    Up to this point with you now. Why is your air force xp only at 12? I've been keeping an eye on it.. mine is 78. When i volunteered my forces for the SCW, there was a check box to assign upto 2 air wings with the panzers/divisions... i had already assigned them as per the tutorial, but you didn't have the same check box. I checked mine, and can see german plane animations in Spain.. but none with yours? I did wonder why your fuel supply was quite a bit higher than mine too.

      The ability to volunteer air forces was added with Waking the Tiger, and I think is only possible with that DLC enabled. He's doing this with no DLC, so he did not have the option.

    • @gameswithbrains

      Good question - So in an ideal "perfect play through" I would manually override what the general (in this case Rommel) is doing, anytime something like this presents more than "a few days". Quick reminder to everyone - if you manually give an order to a division, under the command of a general, the division will ALWAYS carry out your order first, and when it's complete, the General will assume direct control again secondly...
      Because the panzer divisions are currently under the control of Rommel (and I agree with you, he is a little loose with them) - at some point I switch his aggression down a notch.
      In coming episode, we do see Rommel pulling units back (retreat) as and when, but also there is also at least 1 upcoming example when he makes a grave mistake which requires our direct intervention.
