My PM1 with the Lumix 14mm is often my pocket camera. Mine has some grip tape on the front which also wraps around under it to keep the battery door closed. Camera was in my jacket pocket and then fell out onto a concrete floor. The camera door wedges shut but the lock broke off. The tape keeps it safe and secure. Great camera for impromptu street shots.

I have the E-PM2. The 16 MP sensor has a much better SNR compared with this 12 MP model. It's really like a mini E-M5. The problem though, is that after all these years, its rear thumb grip has disintegrated and the shutter can't always open.

The Panasonic 20mm 1.7 is a must have for anyone running an M4/3 system. I had that lens with me the last time I went to Japan... though sadly I left my charger at home, so I ran out of battery halfway through my trip, and wasn't willing to spend on an extra battery and charger for just two more days of use.
Ironically, I finished that trip shooting on a cellphone. Which was quite a challenge as my cellphone at the time wasn't a camera powerhouse in any way.
I really do want to get back into M43, but I'm on the lookout for the smallest body I can find, because I've been shooting cellphones for so long that I don't really want to go back to carrying a clunky body and an extra camera bag everywhere.

The price for the Lumix 20mm has gone through the roof in my part of the world. Secondhand is almost NZD100 more than the MRP of NZD400. Everyone seems to want one. Keeping an eye out for the 20mm which might be thrown in with a camera (and then onselling the camera).

this is one of the few videos about this camera. I had it for a few years, just sold it about 2 months ago. In well lit sunny day, it can deliver really great photos. The video quality is also really good, for a camera from more than 10 years ago, of course. I used it for the weird lenses I found in the flea market as it was super easy to adapt them without worrying too much about vignetiing.

I picked one of these up for my nephew recently to build him a starter camera kit (with the 45mm f1.8 so he isn't up in everyone's face). It's a great little piece of kit but I paid about $10 less than what I paid for the EPM2 that I have had for a couple of years.
The EPM2 is a much better camera all around. Better handling, higher rez and better iso/high iso noise (2500 to 5000) and all around IQ. The EPM2 has been my go to tiny camera since I bought it and having switched my main body a few times (EM10.3, EM5.3 and currently EM1.2) it the one camera I don't think I will ever get rid of. I currently have it sitting on my desk with the 75mm 1.8 and EVF attachment on it (bigger lens means holding both body and lens) but normally it rocks the 25mm f1.8.
I think the EPM1 is probably out performed by most smartphone cameras but I think the EPM2 consistently generates better photos than my iPhone 13 Pro. A lot of this comes down to quality glass but also the aggressive processing choices and insistence on slow shutter speeds on the iPhone lead to a lot of blurry photos or painterly looking low light shots. Low light performance and controlling shutter speed is what got me in to real camera's when we had our first child a few years back. With the EPM1/2 and most Olympus cameras you can set a low shutter limit in the flash sync low setting (I go with 160-200). This is a handy setting for camera with limited controls as you can just live in Aperture mode and fast lenses and letting your camera run to its max iso (or whatever you are comfortable with) puts our great raw files that are easy to clean up in post (DXO is my go to)

That control selection scheme of using arrows/dial is also present on the E-PL1, and easily my biggest gripe about it and any of the earlier Pen series that weren't considered "flagships" of the series. Otherwise, I really like these small little jokers for walk-around shooting. I've been keeping one of the body cap 15mm f/8 lenses on mine, but I've got all sorts of other gear (adapted and native) that I can use for more options. The nicest thing about it is that I got it for about $25 because there is imprinting in a stripe across the LCD and the IBIS is shot/gone. No big deal there since I'm so used to shooting on DSLRs without any sort of stabilization in them and don't use this for any video.
The absolute best part is that, considering my sheer lack of investment, I'm seriously not worried about damage or theft. It becomes a perfect travel companion for me if I don't need to do any serious shooting.

Some good points, both Pen Minis were great little cameras in their way, I use the Pen Mini 2 quite a bit. The Lumix GF5 was also very good. The Super Control Panel makes the control setup much more usable by the way. With the excellent Lumix 20 1.7 lens this is probably at least $200 now although you might just get the Pen Mini 1 body for under $100.

I love my E-PM1 - it has a lot in common with the design of the XZ-1 as well. I have both in white, and if it weren't for the lens on the XZ-1, I could easily grab the wrong one from the shelf.
The 20mm f1,7 Lumix lens is a great fit on the Mini, though I have been tempted to pick up the 17mm f2.8 Olympus lens or the 14mm f2.5 Lumix lens as they are both even more compact.
Several moths ago, I picked up the Olympus E-PL1 as well, and even though it's older, slightly bigger, with less ISO range and only goes to 1/2000, I prefer it over the Mini - especially for black and white photography.
But since then I got my hands on a Sony NEX 5n including lenses at a real bargain price - a very small camera for such a big sensor... Let's just say, the A 5100 and the NEX 6 have followed since then as well as the Carl Zeiss 32mm f1.8 Planar T* Touit lens and I already had an M42 to NEX lens adapter, that was sent to me by mistake several years ago (the store didn't want it returned), thus my M42 lenses have found new use too, so my Olympus Pen cameras don't see as much action at the moment as they used to.

I picked up the E-PM1 and then 3 weeks later got the E-PM2 for even less. However on both the IS has failed, I think it worked for a day or so on the E-PM1 - this is very common, if yours hasn't failed yet due to age, it probably will. However as a cheap discreet street camera with that 20mm or the 14mm Panasonic lens, these cameras are fun to use as long as with no IS, you avoid low light :-) The 16Mb E-PM2 sensor is 'better' yet for me, I get more character from the E-PM1.

So you can take camera after camera and hype forever, and this has no educational value, and not exactly a creative challenge.
Instead of 10 hype videos, you can make one that will give a systematic understanding of a particular line of cameras and what happened to it over time. You can simply sort out the line of Olympus Pen cameras, say when and in which models what changes occurred, where there are what features. This will give better understanding for an informed choice.
All this nonsense like “you need THIS camera” - adults who respect each other don’t communicate like that. It's just not good.

Have you ever considered that I just enjoy talking about older cameras? Because, I genuinely do. These are the cameras I grew up talking about but never got the chance to try out. And now I can! That's a super fun concept to me. But, if you don't enjoy that kind of thing, that's totally cool. The question is though, why are you even here? Surely you'd be better spending your time with something that brings YOU joy?

@@TomCalton agree. At least you aren’t making the 154th video on some overhyped, new Fuji camera 😀 as someone who just got a G3, Kodak 4800 and a Panasonic ZS19 (again)I appreciate those who make videos on these older cameras. Keep it up.

...and carry your 25mp phone camera in the other pocket? I bet an electronic viewfinder doubles the cost- if you can find one at all. A camera with interchangeable lenses and no viewfinder serves very little purpose. Also, if you don't use a strap on ANY camera, misery awaits you. There is a reason every camera and transistor radio going back to the 1950s has a strap or a means to attach one.

Got this one too. Came with a charger, extra battery, strap and lens which costed me €140 early last year. Takes pretty sharp pictures. Is satisfied with my purchase.
