cutting off 2.5 inches adds probably as much as 6-8 lbs of flex, lie may change as well, a decent option is just stick handling in roller blades to add height back in
Roller blades is a good option. Not always going to be available or useful. The key here is we are trying to get close to ideal situation. Nothing is going to be perfect. 6-8 lbs of flex not a huge deal in the big picture. Much rather have that then use a stick 2 inches to long.
A suggestion which I've made to others is a 2-piece combo (aluminum or composite shaft, ABS blade) as they hold up better than a wood or composite one when off-ice.
Good tips. Suggest condensing your talking points though...the first point could have been made in about 30 seconds. After 60 seconds I had already moved on.
247 Hockey thats the thing...I think they are for me. I am your target audience. I love your content, it would just benefit from some editing. Why make 5 moves when 1 or 2 will do.
Some of my videos are longer, others are shorter. I'll try to make each video better as I go. What may seem like a point that could be edited for you, could be a point that helps it stick for someone else. Everyone learns differently. I'm more focused on making content then trying to make each video perfect. I appreciate the feedback and will keep working on making each video the best I can.
I cant help but agree that the repetitive nature takes away more than it adds--it's so EASY for us to rewind if we feel like we missed something. In this modern age, you gotta lay out your points clearly and concisely. Some of us got babies and dishes to clean lol. LOVE THE VIDEOS.....but as they say in AV production, "trim the fat" :)
I'm confused. I asked Jeremy from "how to hockey / the hockey movement" about stick length and he said it's totally fine to use the same stick off and on the ice. The difference in length wouldnt matter much because it teaches you to handle the puck in situations where things just arent perfect (distance to puck is wrong, your position to the puck is off, you are receiving a bad pass, etc...). Whats your opinion on that?
peddaz55 my opinion is that it IS totally fine. But it is NOT ideal. Go with whatever makes more sense for you. This is how I teach it and what has gotten the best results for me and the players I've coached and we've tested a lot of options. Take the advice and go test options for yourself and choose what works best. Handling the puck and shooting with wrong stick lengths does nothing to help your game.
You aren't training for "all" situations using sticks of different lengths. When in a game is the situation where you need to train for using a shorter stick, that makes no sense really. When you are training, you want your stick length to be the same length it would be if you were on skates. So, you need to make your off-ice stick shorter.
Zac, great video, I’ve always wondering about this and really never seen much on it. Trained with the same size sticks, and it is absolutely apparent; that is the feeling of the stick being too short once you get on a sheet. But I do have a question, and wanted to get your thoughts. Should the cut down length be the full amount of height difference when on skates, or somewhere in between? I ask because your legs technically get longer when you put on skates, but your arms don’t “grow.” As much awkwardness as it it to have the stick “too short” when on the ice, wouldn’t the stick being longer create a similar issue? I think the training stick should only be 1” - 1.5”, granted I only made this revelation after testing for 2 hours lol. Appreciate all the videos!
Would it work if I had a new top of the line stick that has the same flex profile as my older one? It'll have the same general feel but it is slightly different.
Ya it happens for sure. I recommend taping them up a little bit but your skin will eventually toughen up more and start to callous in those areas. You are on the right track! That means you're training like a BOSS!
Hi ! Im thinking is it good to train at home with not skates . Becouse with not skates stick is longer . So can you or somebody tell is it bad to my hockey shot?
Hope this video helps! Check out our FREE SNIPER CHALLENGE here: 247Hockey.com/sniper
i do the same with my sticks. I just buy top of the line sticks from a few years ago and they still feel awesome.

Seem to me a big win. 6-8 lbs will train muscles and it'll be easier to flex the stick on the ice
I tape picks to my training stick so it's heavy and helps in training so when I pick up my ice stick ...
Great topic. And right on with your points. Also, no need to grind that good ice stick down to a nub.

Thanks for the feedback. If you can't stick around for an extra 30 seconds my videos probably aren't for you.

Thanks! I will try!
do a bit of both maybe ;) sometimes the good length, sometimes the ice stick. Trains for all situations

Hello Coach. Great fan of your channel, keep it going 💪 Sorry quick question, what did you use for your filming backdrop please? Many thanks

I use a wraparound on my old stick and I got the same is that good it's the same size
Damn I love ur vids
Thanks Carlo! I'm keeping them coming!
247 Hockey I play midget house league and I want to make the chl what should I do to get better
That's the problem with having one stick only which is my on ice stick
Cause I broke my others
Yup, need to buy cheaper sticks so it's okay if you break them. If you only have one, your sticks are to expensive.
247 Hockey yea I'll probably just go for a wood one with the same curve
Would it work if I had a new top of the line stick that has the same flex profile as my older one? It'll have the same general feel but it is slightly different.
I would use my old one to train with and as a backup
Yup, that works.
Question Coach if you have a Shooting pad should I use my on ice stick or get a Off I've stick?
Can you use your game stick to practice on the dry land fake ice tiles?or will it ruin your blade?
They don’t ruin the stick
I'm starting to get blisters on my hands from stickhandling and shooting so much. What would you recommend to prevent it or help it?
Do you wear your hockey gloves?
Yes, they aren't bad gloves either.
Ya it happens for sure. I recommend taping them up a little bit but your skin will eventually toughen up more and start to callous in those areas. You are on the right track! That means you're training like a BOSS!
snizbone I used to get blisters to but mine was on my thumb like where the bone is
Jerimiah Lion keep training hard you are obviously putting the work in.
Hi ! Im thinking is it good to train at home with not skates . Becouse with not skates stick is longer . So can you or somebody tell is it bad to my hockey shot?
Or should i buy shorter hockey stick on home trainingm
Train with a shorter stick in tennis shoes. I cover this in the video.
Thanks
