In my opinion, they both look great, just in different ways. The FN is like a Lamborghini Countach- designed almost 30 years ago but still looks futuristic. Ruger is like a muscle car- classic, traditional, and timeless. Both are sexy in different ways.

I am team FN all the way. That said, I am thrilled that Ruger finally jumped in the 5.7 arena. I hope many more follow and cause such a demand for 5.7x28 that more manufacturers will start to produce it and drive the cost down. That way we have more of a choice than FN brand, or FN brand reloaded by Federal.

Same. Just bought a Five-seveN and haven't fired it yet.. but I like the guns. Haven't owned many pistols until recently, so the safety placement being different doesn't bother me. I can see how it would be annoying to someone like a tactical shooter or someone who has spent years training in with a more common safety position. And they are super lightweight, which is pleasant. They are light, and mostly polymer, but they aren't cheap. The parts that need to be metal are metal. FN knows how to make guns.
The only major downsides (actual ones, not opinions, like the aesthetics or the feel) are the price of the gun/ammo, and the lack of customization options, and then there are some small things I don't think would be a dealbreaker for many people.
That being said, I feel like I'd have to recommend the Ruger to people. Seems like the better buy, from an unbiased standpoint. It's just gonna be more familiar, and cheaper. It's got some out of the box features that give it a bit of an advantage to the FsN. But I'd tell them I like the FsN more. I like the way it works for me, and I'm a big fan of FN, and it's a fun gun for me to shoot, and it may find itself being carried in a vehicle or something like that.

The safety is up front on the FN because your trigger finger is meant to be out of the trigger guard and extended it will be touching the safety. Flick it off on your way into the trigger guard. Support hand thumb is counter intuitive because during the draw your finger should be on the frame touching it.

I'm not having any problems finding ammo for it (American Eagle and FN Herstal), although it is pricey. My long term use of the R57 has let some aspects float to the top that put the FSN ahead of it, IMO. At least until the Rock 57 from PSA comes out. The Ruger has slimmer magazines (metal), but there are quite a few instances of Ruger having to replace the magazines because they don't feed, or allow users to load to capacity. Magazine release mechanism was poorly designed, and sits too far forward. PSA went with a modified R57 magazine, but moved the release catch to the side of the mag, and enlarged and brought the button in a much better position. Ruger nitrides the barrel, but not the slide, and surface rusts very easily. Internal components just don't seem overbuilt (robust) as the FSN. I prefer the safety up front, but that's YMMV.

The MK3 comes ready to mount a red dot, light weight, and very accurate. Personally, it’s a huge improvement over the previous generation that I was looking at a couple years ago. Ammo was never a problem sourcing for my PS90 so I don’t know why that always comes up when discussing 5.7x28mm. From this day forward all fanboys on this channel will be referred to as Andy’s. We just had a guy rage quit our channel because Coch who owns both of these guns and Myles who has never shot either both kind of favored the Ruger over the FN 57. I’ve heard other channels talk about upsetting fanboys but wow.
I also own both of these guns. I don’t care about either one of them to have much of an opinion. But for you Andy’s out there here it is anyway. The FN is a boutique ahead of its time concept gun that has a very unique feel to it. The Ruger has more of a traditional feel to include ergonomics/ manual of arms. Which is all Coch was really saying. Myles being a guy who spends more free time and personal resources on shooting guns than anyone I’ve ever met, which is saying a lot. Probably initially preferred the Ruger due to the fact that it felt more familiar to him.
This video is not intended to be an in-depth review or analysis of these pistols. It was a snapshot opinion piece coming from a firearms subject matter expert who owns both pistols and a guy who was never shot either.
Oh and that goes for all you Andy‘s out there as well. You can refer to yourselves and each other as Andy’s. It’s not meant to be derogatory, it’s more of a badge of honor for this guy. Not that he will ever know because like I said he rage quit the channel.

I HATE the 10-rounders but there's not much I can do about that (for the time being) but in any case, the gun was accurate out of the box!! Recoil was next to nothing, the point was easy, the sights (tritium) were spot on, the mags dropped freely from the well, and even with a full one, the gun is incredibly light!!!The trigger is wide, which I like very much. Out the door, I paid $1,374 (thank you, Midway USA). It arrived at my local gun store about four days later, went down, DROS'ed it up, waited my 10 days (grrrr) picked her up and brought her home!       I finally got my hands on some 27 grain and holy moly, you are right. The point of impact at 15 yards with the 27 grain is almost 7 inches higher than the 40 grain. While it is expensive, I tried to look at it in another perspective and that helped me feel better about blasting a hundred rounds at a time;
      As of now, 5.7X28 is about $0.96/rd where I live. 44mag is $2.20/rd, .357 is $0.84/rd, .45 auto is $0.72/rd, .380 auto is $0.60/rd, 5.56 is $0.80/rd, and .308 is $2-4/rd.
It is considerably more expensive than 9mm, but not really what I would consider "prohibitively expensive". Sometimes it is cheaper than .223 and people blast that stuff 500rds at a time. Hopefully the change in perspective will ease the pain of shooting a box of 5.7x28
Of course I wish it were cheaper, but I think the biggest problem with it is the availability, or the lack thereof.

I have never seen anyone say "I chose the Ruger because it was half the cost." At least be honest. The FN is remarkably expensive and there is absolutely no shame in choosing the Ruger due to budget limitations. I am happy if you did get it because of financial restrictions because that at least tells me you are financially responsible enough to not break the bank and still get a 5.7x28. I owned a FN for years as I love the caliber and for a while it was the only option. The fn is a first gen 5.7 pistol that is 30 years old at this point. They are ok for what they are but to buy one nowadays knowing they don't come optic ready, are known for terrible stock triggers, basic tier sights, and low capacity compared to literally every other option not to mention ZERO aftermarket support means you're paying for brand loyalty and that is it. You shouldn't have to drop hundreds of dollars into a brand new 1500 pistol just to modernize it so it has features that come stock on even the cheapest pot metal HiPoints these days.
Having owned both as well as a PSA rock I have to say I sold my fn because everything about that gun is proprietary and fn aren't exactly actively supporting any aftermarket parts or modding so you are stuck with it as is which is unacceptable for the price tag imo.

@@davidabest7195Terrible stock triggers? Those come with personal preference and training. Low capacity? 20 rounds is a very large amount of ammunition for a pistol. Why is basic tier sights a bad thing? Zero aftermarket support? What? You can find threaded barrels and other things online.
Yeah the price is absurd but I like the looks of it and if someone wants to pay for that, let them. Stop being elitists, it’s repulsive.

I can imagine how much the FN would've came out too. Maybe like 950ish or a lil more with taxes. Don't be offensive bro. Keep it cool you'll be fine. I appreciate the Ruger commercial; but the FN is no toy in the right hands. FN stands for quality and reliability. Ruger makes excellent weapons. I am fortunate to own more Rugers than FNs as my pocketbook empties quickly on the FN side of the equation. You should not buy the FN unless you can afford the P90 too. The 5.7 round is a great John Wick to the head and neck round. Having been in law enforcement for twenty years more than that time ago, I do not shoot center of mass. I shoot the head, neck, and legs. I will defeat body armor. The cops today that empty their magazines should be fired. Always charge the peril, assess while doing, address and attract the objectives attention by engaging him or her with verbal acuity, while taking control of the threat(s’) environment. Time is critical and lives depend on you. Those cops in TX need to resign. Kids died while they did nothing. If you are afraid, then find another job. What a disgrace. The review was fine and I enjoy your videos; but it seems to me you were negative before the camera turned on. Good gravy - I do not mean to give advice to two guys way more knowledgeable than I; but since it was a new round for both of you …, maybe start at five or seven yard range first before imputing your skill level abilities onto the unknown. I still enjoyed your efforts.

It is that people are buying their local and not foreign ones. Patak is very good. It should be designed in Kalashan but should be made in every assault rifle. People will also get this bore in their favorite gun. The company will also do good business.

Fun to shoot, low recoil, high capacity. The ruger is more reliable across more ammo if the mags work, finish is weak. Overall the round doesn't make much sense, especially in a short pistol barrel. Even the 'most potent' variants of 5.7x28mm ammo that civilians can't buy was not able to penetrate the older russian armour P90. There is a 'Nato PDW trials' test together with the MP7 and it's ammo, both didn't do the job they were meant for. With pistols it's less velocity and velocity is what they need. If one is hiking a lot and wants to take lots of ammo with them, that might be a niche for it. No pistol caliber reaches velocities needed for rifle like terminal ballistics (~2300fps).

Bruh, it malfunctioned in the video. It hasnt even had 5 minutes of screentime and it already malfunctioned. "Ruger is more reliable, except when it's not". As far as effectiveness, there is unfortunately a real-world example of a man going on a killing spree using an FN five-seven. Every single person that was hit center mass succumbed to the injury. Every one of them. The only survivors where people hit in the extremities. Look up the man who shot up Fort Hood to see what I mean.
Also, quit trying to compare rifle ballistics to pistols. "9mm out of a PCC is more effective, so whats the point of a 9mm handgun?" See how stupid that sounds?

I swear the preference is all on you as the shooter. If you prefer the ruger I would say you already went into it wanting to like it better than the fn for your own choices. I have 1911 experience but I don’t see an issue with the fn safety. It works well with a thumbs forward grip. The ruger is not better in my opinion but maybe the Psa rock will be.

I like how ruger feels. But after hearing their comments I regards to abolishing the ATF... sorry I’ll go the expensive route.

I hate the sights, I hate the feel, I hate the polymer coating, I hate the trigger, I hate the safety... Slight edge to the Ruger!

Bro you’re just too broke to afford the FN so u come up with bs to justify buying that cheap trash ass ruger 😂

It's not often I'd say this but if you're going to pay for the price of 5.7, why are you cheaping out and buying a knockoff 5.7 instead of paying a few hundred more for the real FN 5.7? You shouldn't care what other people think of your guns and all but noones ever been excited to see a Ruger57 at the range, but oh how they'll fawn over an FN. Cool points are worth the extra money to get the real deal.
