I do love my Five-seveN. Owned it since 2013. Never had any issue with the gun, save for one instance. Stove-piped one of the rounds, but it was not the gun's fault, but the spring in the 30 round mag when you're doing rapid fire. Only happened once, and only with the 30 rounder. Had the spring re-adjusted and nothing since.
I have had my five seven for around 8 years. I take it out to the range once in a while. One thing about it is the weight. It is lighter loaded with 20 rounds then my gen 3 glock 19 is with 15, but it is also bulkier. My CZ shadow 2 is more accurate out to maybe 35 to 40 yards, but the 5.7 accuracy is better out beyond that, likely because of the speed, and lighter bullet weight. I also recently bought a CMMG upper chambered in 5.7 x 28 loving the delayed radial blow back design, and how clean it stays.
I was in a rush the other day and couldn’t find my glock so I grabbed my 5.7(which I never carry cause it’s kinda bulky) grabbed 2 mags to go with me. Got to where I was going and while I was sitting down I was thinking “Wow I have 60 rounds on me and I can’t even tell” that being said, when you can carry so many rounds at literally a fraction of the weight it’s amazing
love my fn five seven best carry pistol ever in my opinion!! No need for big bullets to take down a human especially when you can have 21 rounds with no recoil...
Just bought a Five-seveN, as I've always been fascinated by them. They are expensive, the ammo is expensive, but I think they are a totally fine cartridge for self defense, and with some advantages you won't get out of any other handgun. Mainly, the ability of the round to penetrate some light armors that would easily stop a typical low velocity handgun caliber. Haven't had a chance to really run much through mine, but I love the capacity and the feel of mine. It's light, holds more rounds than most alternatives, and I think the ballistic performance of it is just fine. It is known to reliably tumble, and the light weight of the rounds make them much less likely to overpenetrate than one would expect from such a fast round. Are they the best? No, but neither are the commonly carried 9mm and .45 ACP. And I'd rather have a .22 Short revolver than nothing, so one really doesn't need "the best". Speaking of the best, the best option is what you shoot with the best, what you are comfortable with, and what works for you, in your situation. The Five-seven is a bit too big to carry on my person, but that's no issue to keep in a vehicle. My small subcompact 9mm would be the choice if I wanted something right on me, but if I'm driving, or walking through the woods, I want something full sized. If it works for you, it's a good gun.
I think you hit the nail on the head here at 13:18. What you don't like about it is what appeals to those who buy it. This would 100% be a self-defense/offense weapon for me. The extra ammo capacity, versatility, and even the extra loud noise it makes are all pretty awesome for that job.
I’m going to share why the FN 5.7 is one of my favorite guns. 1, reliability, nothing out there in the gun world is more reliable some guns are as reliable but not more reliable. 2, depending on the ammo you’re shooting it does penetrate body armor. You can carry 4 or 5 50 round boxes of ammo in your front pocket. Try that with some of the other calibers. 4, it’s extremely lightweight, you can carry it all day long without adding to your fatigue. That said, the only drawback is the cost of ammo. I buy bulk to keep the cost down. I once purchased 8k round at a time at $14 per box of 50. I haven’t seen that price in a long while but still hoping. Thank for you video
The FN57 is more reliable than a glock, which is hard to do. Because Glocks are reliable enough under normal circumstances. FN 57 is hammer fired, so it runs quite well under water, or packed full of mud and sand! The round is only as effective as your aiming. But, it can penetrate some serious stuff and reach in to vital areas. And you can put a lot of shots on target very very fast with it! No firearm is perfect for any particular individual, if you are good with it, then it’ll be a good option! And that goes for any pistol out there!
Not sure why folks would buy a gun designed for shooting through armor and body armor & weak on "stopping power". But that is just me. Here are the prices if you want this gun: Prices: The FN Five-seveN 5.7x28 = _$1,200 to $1,350 USD_ Now we have the Ruger 57 = around _$700 USD_ Ammo 5.7x28 FMJ 50 rds. = _$21 USD_ 5.7x28 Hornady V-Max Blue SS197SR - _$26.59 USD_
Glad this is my duty sidearm ! Not gonna lie, i got huge doubts about this one when we transitionned from HiPower (FN GP Mk.3) The plastic look and futuristic look was unimpressive and looked weak... 10 years later, the pistol is scratched on the outside but internals looks pristine ! Reliability is top notch ! Never EVER had a stoppage/jam with this one ! (and we shoot a lot in dusty, sandy muddy, rainy, icy, sunny conditions) Scratched plastic make the pistol look like something i found in a back alley but the rest speaks for itself ! One very point i need to mention is that sand/dust and moist goes between the layer of plastic and the inner metal core of the pistol and it rust ! We flush it with WD when we stock them for a long time but you really need to pay attention to this ! (or take the cover and dry it completely)
Some of our best shooters are very good at hitting things at max 250m with it ! We discovered this by "mistake" when a guy transitionned to his sidearm on a long range shooting session !
Thank you for revisiting this firearm hickok45! This is my favorite handgun of all time and it's nice to see a recent video regarding it. Hopefully the Ruger57 succeeds so more people can try firing the 5.7 cartridge (and potentially make the ammo cheaper).
Longtime fan of the channel but on this we part company. I've carried an FN five SeveN for several years (7+) and have come to think of it as the perfect pistol. Recoil is nearly non-existent, magazines are high capacity, accuracy is amazing and it's incredibly lightweight. What else is there with the possible exception of some personal, subjective preference. I've carried a lightweight commander, a P229 and an HK P7. I still own them all and love each one for different reasons. But I find the five seven simply a superior handgun. Still love the channel. Mind your muzzle.
I feel the FN Five-seveN is perfect for a person who wants to carry only one 1 firearm- that 5.7mm round has a very long range with less recoil & a 20x round magazine. if you are worried about the expensive ammo, you can always buy some cheap 9mm pistol to use for target practice....
@@smok3539 I think he means just plinking at the range. I got some nice guns that I occasionally shoot but don’t want to foul up, and ammo is more $, so I bought a Glock 17 as my workhorse range tool.

I love this man so much. Always take care Hickok45 and Jon! I've been watching your videos a waaaaaaaaay long time ago using diff accounts and I'm still here! Greetings from the Philippines. Big fan!
In my experience people who love the gun are in one of two camps. They either love the P90(or Ps90) and since the Five Seven was made as the companion pistol it fits right with the P90 in their mind. Or someone is a huge fan of the Splinter Cell games, since it was the main characters favorite gun. There is also the third camp which is just a combination of the prior two, which is where I am
I like the idea and the engineering behind this firearm. I'm less concerned about the price (it's not cheap but it's also not out of the ballpark once I added up all the minor mods to my standard Glock 17), although MRSP of four figures continues to be a sticking point for many consumers. However, the central issues remain - non-standard (and relatively expensive) ammo, magazines that are automatic targets for state-level capacity limitations and the non-standard safety position (requiring serious training to establish basic muscle memory, and intensive training to obtain proficiency under stress). After-market parts (threaded barrels, various sights, etc.) are also very limited. It's a collector piece and fun to shoot, but you're better off spending the money on good training with a less sexy pistol. Thanks for the video! Stay healthy. 🖖
@@tekxmcfly6159 As more companies have produced pistols and carbines chambered for 5.7mm, the price for non-FN firearms has come down and the after-market product availability has risen. The cost of the Five seven wasn't my main concern, but rather the safety mechanism. Ruger & PSA responded to the commercial market concerns and incorporated standard safety levers or trigger-based safeties into their pistol frames while FN doubled-down with their unique approach for the new MRD. "Whatever someone wants" is an impractical and unprofessional perspective regarding a pistol that is severely handicapped by the training threshold required to compensate for its non-standard safety.
Just wanted to thank you pappy for all your hard work to entertain us! We learn many new things from you every day..👍 Must love hickok45... 💯🙏Pls stay safe🙏💯
This was my first gun. I bought it in 2012 and I love it. I call it a "pocket AR" because with the extended mag option it can hold 30 STANAG rounds. It's highly accurate and inflicts minimal recoil. My only criticism is the gun is large (thankfully I have a larger hand) and the ammo can be expensive depending on brand/type/time.
5.7 pistol was designed to give field medics a weapon capable of defeating battlefield armor that was smaller than the m4, which often got tossed to the side while medics went into action.
@@my9thaccount140 yeah, and it was supposed to win, it went up against MP7. But Germany vetoed the vote and every NATO country went fuck it we get what we want then. No standardization in this case.

First exposure to the gun, and the round, was when this model came to Maine... I had the pleasure of putting a few mags through it, alongside my CZ 52, and 1911. I found the recoil to be light, especially for how snappy the round is, and in soft targets... Pumpkins, cucumbers, basically whatever my friend brought out, that was fit for the compost pile... I'm soft targets, it was devastating. Cans and boards, it neatly pierced... 15 years later, I still would love to have one!

In this video he says it felt like a Hi-Point, which is also a riot hahaha

@@juliannunez8430 yes, both are excellent, I love the mag capacity. FN ergonomics feel better than Ruger's, but Ruger stil excellent and I love velocity and penetration in my carry piece. What still makes me take a step behind truly is my annoyance with the price of the ammo. I can't afford, I went with a P30 in 9mm for carry and the G42 in 380 because of the size and the excellent potential for plinking, which I love.
@@juliannunez8430 Cheaper, yes, and I'm glad another manufacturer has made a firearm that uses the 5.7x28. It is an excellent round. It is better than 9mm in almost every way, only the price kills it. Personally, I find the FN Fiveseven way more aesthetically appealing than Ruger 5.7.
This video actually made the case for me not buying one. The cost of the pistol and the cost of the ammo are the main reasons to not buy one. The lack of stopping power for me is the other reason. Keep up the great videos.

Got to where I was going and while I was sitting down I was thinking “Wow I have 60 rounds on me and I can’t even tell” that being said, when you can carry so many rounds at literally a fraction of the weight it’s amazing
Couldnt find your glock?

Never thought I’d hear Hickok say “Too many guns”
:22 definitely hit the 2 liter and the metal plate behind it
Blaspheme.
I think you hit the nail on the head here at 13:18. What you don't like about it is what appeals to those who buy it. This would 100% be a self-defense/offense weapon for me. The extra ammo capacity, versatility, and even the extra loud noise it makes are all pretty awesome for that job.

I have 2 FN's one my everyday carry. It's a great weapon.

Here are the prices if you want this gun:
Prices:
The FN Five-seveN 5.7x28 = _$1,200 to $1,350 USD_
Now we have the Ruger 57 = around _$700 USD_

Glad this is my duty sidearm !
Not gonna lie, i got huge doubts about this one when we transitionned from HiPower (FN GP Mk.3)
The plastic look and futuristic look was unimpressive and looked weak...
10 years later, the pistol is scratched on the outside but internals looks pristine ! Reliability is top notch ! Never EVER had a stoppage/jam with this one ! (and we shoot a lot in dusty, sandy muddy, rainy, icy, sunny conditions)
Scratched plastic make the pistol look like something i found in a back alley but the rest speaks for itself !
One very point i need to mention is that sand/dust and moist goes between the layer of plastic and the inner metal core of the pistol and it rust ! We flush it with WD when we stock them for a long time but you really need to pay attention to this ! (or take the cover and dry it completely)
For spliting the gun apart, one quick tip we use to teach : but the RED DOT on the "R" of "Herstal", R for Remove

Meanwhile 5.7 is the same price as 9mm currently :/
Yea right a box of fn ammo right now goes for 89 dollars 9mm not even close to that
Why practice with a nine and carry a 57. You definitely should practice with any gun your going to edc or carry
@@smok3539 I think he means just plinking at the range. I got some nice guns that I occasionally shoot but don’t want to foul up, and ammo is more $, so I bought a Glock 17 as my workhorse range tool.

People complain about the price...n go out n buy a Stacatto or a Gucci Race Glock for "lower recoil" and "better ergos" Its whatever someone wants.

I think Hickock really can’t get used to it cause he is a rage caliber shooter! He’s just old school
Love the round, just can't stand plastic looking and feeling guns personally.
I thought it was made as a package with the P90 for a NATO contract that wanted a PDW and a pistol to go with it.
@@my9thaccount140 it was lol, idk what this dude talking about medics

What I'd give to have Hickocks backyard. Pretty awsome imo

Hello from Argentina !!!!!! Very good demonstration of the FN FIVE SEVEN. Greetings to Hickok45.
If there's one word I would use to describe the 5-7 it's "neat" the 5-7 to me is just a really neat firearm, it's a pistol chambered in a minute rifle cartridge and is kind of just the best of both worlds.
I love the FN 5x7!!! My only complaint is over penetration as a carry weapon. I guarantee if you practice, you can hit 300 meter targets with it.
Good video man. My python should be back in today for the second time from colt... I’ll keep you updated on how it goes. Not sure if you remember me or not, I met you once at the Somerset Gun Show in Somerset Kentucky.

It's one of my dream guns I wish I carried. But the damn thing is so expensive and so is the ammo I had to stick with the idea of a 9mm and 380.
For now, that's a smart decision. 9mm is way cheaper, and they're everywhere. The FN FiveseveN is one of my dream guns, but the cons outweighs the pros at this moment.
You're not missing much. It's slightly better at penetrating a couple types of cheap flexible kevlar. But otherwise you're better off with the 9.
The Ruger 5.7 is cheaper alternative
