I think the sellling point of this isnt Megatron by himself, or even the Hiss tank. Its the form where its Megatron with a turret on his back that you can put Baroness into. That is awesome. Even if it shouldve been made with better plastics and less hollow.
It take you back to the old gi Joe vehicle used to be all hollow like that which I like you use to have to build it out
Megatron looks like he is cosplaying as the HISS tank
If its going to be cheaply made and hollow, it should not be "premium" priced. (and hasbro owns both franchises, so its not a licensing thing.)
I absolutely agree! It’s not like they pay a premium for this crossover. This guy is just really cheaply made
Lets hope the haslab hiss tank is better than this
Agreed
@@PrimeVsPrime I'm kinda hoping they do retool it into an original character and sell it as a mainline GI Joe vehicle...
Yeah at $40 this is a good deal. Hope to see it on clearance at Wal-Mart
They could've donw a better job at merging Megatron with it, like, give it his colors and actually use those panels to make a solid robot mode and not make a single plate hide his face.
I absolutely agree! The robot mode leaves a lot to be desired sadly :(
@@PrimeVsPrime If they made the HISS Tank more grey then the treads could fold into the legs, the arms could be made from chunks of the front, and we could assemble a Fusion Cannon with the turret bits.
@@PrimeVsPrime I saw a guy called the toy guy talking about yellowing and it only yellows if it's under a florsint light
You expect to much from a toy based off a cartoon
@@30secondtoyreviewsormaybel29 With all the miracles they've worked in MAINLINE TRANSFORMERS I think this could have been done better.
Ah, the elastic band, that takes me back! A few classic 3 3/4 inch action figures (GI Joe most famously, but also lines like Masters of the Universe & Visionairies) utilised them in some fashion, either in the waist or hip joints. Great retro touch.
yup, thought exactly the same it was only a shame when it would wear down if you bent them too much and basically split the figure in half.
Yeah they're referred to as "o-ring" figures. I prefer that style to the newer versions we got several years back.
Wow... hollowness, gaps, partsforming, laughable kibble management, horrible choices in articulation, horrid plastic... it looks great as a tank, but as a Transformers toy? This may be one of the worst crossovers ever made... AND IT'S ONE OF THE FEW CANON ONES!
When the highlight of a transformer toy is the extra human figure, you know it's an incredibly easy pass.
Holy bandwagoning, Batman
I like this figure. I just wished Megatron was painted with slightly darker colours, so that the robot parts blend in well with the kibble. Alternate mode looks very good, it almost looks as if it doesn't transform when in that mode.
I agree! A darker colour for the plastic would’ve been awesome!
@@PrimeVsPrime agreed plus it's about commander size and it's mostly hollow in some parts but the tank mode has to be awesome
Definitely! The Hiss tank came out much better than the Robot mode. A black scheme would have helped a LOT - Megatron has been a lot of different colors over the years (even, ahem, a black stealth fighter). If they hadn't been trying so hard to make him G-1 Megs they could have made that removable plate just rotate down onto his chest (nixing the kibble), black feet would hide better, and the robot mode would have looked a LOT more coherent.....
Hell, even black would’ve looked good. It’s not like a black paint job would make him no longer recognizable as Megatron.
@@sssspider Exactly.
Love that you've begun integrating greater testing of leg articulation into reviews. We've been seeing leader class figures and even MP trainbot figures lately have loose joints and insufficient ratcheting, especially when doing the splits.
I mean the toy looks cool, but if Megatron never listens to humans, WHO'S BRIGHT IDEA WAS TO INCLUDE A HUMAN PARTNER!!?
I mean it is the Baroness … who wouldn’t listen to her 🤣🥵
@@PrimeVsPrime me
"Boy I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder"
@@PrimeVsPrime Never heard of her
I had to laugh when you said you have never seen a rubber band for articulation of Baroness. That is the design of every 80s GI Joe.
Honestly, I think this mold would've worked a lot better as Onslaught rather then Megatron.
Oh Dear. Despite the initial wave of disappointment, I was holding fast to my preorder thinking this guy couldn't be THAT bad! I gotta say, I'm horrified. For the price, the figure is unforgivably lightweight and hollow. This is just over the price-point of a commander class figure in the main line. So, I was expecting something reasonably close the engineering and quality we have already gotten from Jetfire, Skylynx, or Rodimus. Also, I was super excited for an official GI Joe/Transformers crossover. Something that has been a loooong time coming. Now I'm torn, Do I support the concept I was soo excited for and hope dearly for better figures will come, or do I abandon ship now? Maybe 3rd party figures will come to fill this void?

If you must, wait for eBay to spit one out.
Can't wait to get mine and have it yellowed straight out the box. Scambro is fucking us all over.
Yes, the band that keeps the figure together was typical for GI Joe figures in the 80's, mine would break sometimes and my mom would just replace them with small, black rubber bands
Aren't those literally the "O-rings" the figures are named after?
@@DonaldWWitt Yes
@@DonaldWWitt I am pretty sure they are made out of better material(s) these days
@@MADExCLEARxMEDIA Eh, I don't think you can get much better elastic rubber...
Are we that old or is he just so young that he honestly had no clue about the bands. He must not have any older siblings, my son knows what they are from my old Joe and He-Man figures and he is only 17.
Well then. After watching this review, it seems I feel as though I made the right call to cancel my preorder for this guy. I agree that the HISS Tank was most likely the priority for the toy, but then Megatron suffers as a result and he really does come off as mediocre. I like the Human Alliance incorporation, and yet I just can't see myself spending $90+ on a mediocre release like this. What really got me was when you said he's made of the same kind of plastic prone to yellowing, which is definitely a major turnoff. I don't want to spend $90 on a half-good toy that's just going to turn all yellow and nasty later.
You're very generous in saying that the robot mode is "mediocre".
Thanks for the review! When I first saw this, I thought YES! TAKE MY MONEY! However, the more I've seen of it, the more it just looks like a really cheap attempt to cash in on the two franchises... It's not a cheap toy, the quality should be so much higher and although I'd still want this, I'll wait for it to be in the £50 region - which I don't expect to happen anyway... :(
As for the Baroness, yeah it's a spin on the 80's figure complete with the rubber band holding the figure complete BUT over time it degrades and your figures falls to bits.
Those o-rings are easy to replace. You just need to hit up a plumbing supplies place. I've fixed GI Joes, Actionmasters and other 3.75 inch figures easily that way.
Yeah I dont understand the cheapness of it. Its priced high, and both licenses are owned by Hasbro so it doesnt need massive licensing fees. This shouldve been an extremely solid figure that Hasbro was proud of instead of a cheap feeling one. So bizzare.
I agree. I am disappointed as well. I was really hoping that it would be a lot better.
It is definitely a shame as I was really looking forward to this set :( as you say, this should’ve been priced at around £50
not surprised this lived up to my poor expectations tbh. The robot mode just looks cheap and bulky and not something that you'd expect from Hasbro, especially at the price point of it. The tank mode looks great though.
It especially kinda sucks because all of the past crossover figures were really good.
I do love these crossovers even if the figs themselves are not the best. They are incredible display pieces. The Jurassic park one is definitely my favorite! 2 of my favorite franchises combined makes for a wonderful display piece. I'm not a huge fan of G.I.JOE though so I'm not feeling it here especially since this is one of worst crossover figs quality wise imo.
That "rubber band" is an o-ring and it's literally how most 3.75 inch figures were constructed in the 80s- including Actionmasters.
Why would Hasbro still use plastic that (THEY WELL KNOW) turns 'yellow' over time?
It seems to me that they don't care. Specially due to the high price we have to pay for it in the US (around $90).
They're probably still trying to work with their plastic suppliers to find out what's chemically wrong with the plastic. That shit takes time, amigo
F*ck you, you'll buy it - Hasbro
@@shashummga3477 hahaha making excuses for them as though they have the best intentions to deliver quality, nice one lols
After seeing what looks like the best set of main line transformers figure yet this crossover ( like most of them in my opinion) is yet another let down. Damn shame cause I love the idea despite never being into the GI Joe property.
The priority of the tank mode is so evident. I'm glad it can fit a 3.75 figure inside the cockpit, but I think the second compartment in the turret could have been replaced with automated machineguns that could transform (or even better, a proper tank turret that would've been the perfect way to integrate a properly sized Fusion Cannon into it).
Thanks heaps 4 this video Ben, SO glad I watched it as I was so taken in by the product shots I was going 2 buy it without doing my usual PrimevsPrime research. I was so taken in by the glorious head-sculpt and the idea of Megs sporting a leather clad dark haired chick with glasses I didn't notice the hideous arm-cannon placement, that the woman's head-sculpt was HIDEOUS and I had no idea about the disgraceful gaps and hollow parts
A HISS tank was a really weird choice for Megatron. I'm sure he would've wanted to transform into something more powerful. Cobra Commander and Starscream as a Cobra Rattler would've been much better and more iconic. At least now if you still have the GI Joe Street Fighter figures, you can have Bison or Sagat with Megatron. LOL!!
I've wanted Transformers figures that can accommodate a G.I.Joe figures for so long, and this does that. Personally, I think they would have been better off just making these bots in their respective alt mods, and just decorate with Joe deco. Still, I think these are very neat for what they are.
I am willing to forgive areas where corners were cut because of what it is trying to do. I knew that because it does have the feature of a 3.75" figure being it's pilot/driver, that it was going to be a kibble nightmare.
That said, I am still looking forward to getting mine because this is a total nostalgia piece. Or rather, the nostalgia that could have been because this is long overdue.
I just hope they go in a better direction with Optimus because I am sure he's the next one after Bumblebee
Great review brother.
My heart is broken though, I was so hyped for this release.. I’ll get it still cause I have a story in mind. However I pray DNA design or someone creates something to fill those horrid gaps
Oh man, you made me feel old saying you've never seen the O-ring bands in an action figure.
From where can you get those things so EARLY?
My Amazon preorder is not due before December.
It's fun to hear someone review a classic GIJoe figure as if they have never seen one before. (I'm a long time GIJoe collector.) It's obvious concessions were made to put all the focus in to the alt mode of this figure which I'm fine with. Much is made of the back section but it's like that as a necessity to maintain the functionality between the GIJoe figure and the Transformer. If there was a joint to fold down, it would probably collapse too much when trying to keep it up so a figure can be in the turret. For the record, it appears to be nearly identical in size to the original HISS tank. Personally I love this, I ordered 2.
Yeah i couldn't help but laugh when he said he'd never seen an action figure like this. Made me feel old. My childhood was full of o-ring joes. Was cool to see his appreciation for it as a collector who had never seen one. Man he's missed out on so many amazing actionfigures. We have a while other world of joes he needs to be shown lol
"Personally I love this, I ordered 2."
Son, I am disappoint.
Great content especially the “Turbo Rush” intro song.
Always appreciate an honest review!
the Baroness figure that comes in this set is a retro vintage o ring figure much like the joe figures were back in the 80's.
How did u put the back piece on have been trying for an hour now and I still can figure it out
"I've never seen a figure with a rubber band through the torso..."
I got this recently, and I am grateful for this review. I’ll be keeping mine in its box.
I just can't bring myself to open that Baroness figure. I had no I idea she was packed just like the good ol' days on a carded bubble with the original art work. I seriously thought she would have come zip-tied to a chunk of cardboard or shoved in a plastic baggie. Is it weird that I'm more excited about her than Megs himself?
I am so glad you put this reveiw up PVP. This thing is priced at 140 Canadian plus 13% tax and it is not worth anywhere near that pricepoint. just decided to cancel my preorder, thanks for saving me a stack of cash and huge disappointment. what a massive letdown this thing turned out to be. such a shame.
That’s cool they have the o ring baroness. That’s one of the reasons why I love the vintage GI Joe figures.
Not only hollow as hell, but also full of grey plastic which WILL go yellow in no time. GG Hasbro.
Good Job Hasbro, you ruined it.
holy smokes. I want this but I was about to pass on it until you pulled the back pack with the baroness off. Truth be told if they could have found a way to make some more of his kibble become a domed front ent of the Baronesses Pod ( as seen in some G.I.Joe Cartoons) this would've been even better. I love that it's a H.I.S.S tank which was my first G.I Joe toy as a kid, and Also the way the Baroness figure has the rubber and torso is they way every G.I.Joe figure came back in the day so be careful not to see how many times you can twist her legs around for her to do a spectacular helicopter kick because you will break it..... eventually. great vid Prime
Thank you for posting this video really gave me a lot of information to take in to make an informed decision about ordering this item after seeing your video I think I'll be canceling it or waiting for it to go on sale because I can't see myself paying $90 for this thanks again
At least Megatrons head (and maybe torso to some extent) looks just perfect. I'd buy this Meg figure for custom parts if I found it for a few bucks. Unattractive Gastro Intestinal-Joe girl would go in the trashcan right away, as well as box. Comic would end up in some drawer for collector value I guess.
The last thing we needed was more of Hasbro's hubris
Man this is it's disappointing that this is the best Hasbro can do
"i've never seen an elastic band..." well, that made me feel old
Could u (for the people that wanna buy this later) give a update about the parts U're worried about? (the parts u think are gonna yellow-ish)
The rubber band holding the upper body to the waist was something they did for 80s-90s GI Joe figures.
He's so hollow, yet still awrsome for being a collab. Imma get him on sale
The rubber band at the waist is how they used to to the waists of GIJoe's back in the day.
Just got my hands on this today. Agreed with the complaints about Megatron. If you want to pose him, you have to remove the canopy to get him to stand up straight without a lot of work. If you want him to carry Baroness in robot mode it'll be much harder to accomplish. The cannon refuses to stay attached as well which is even more annoying.
With all these crossovers its always the vehicle modes that come out looking the best because that's the mode that gets top priority when the figures are designed.
Solid set, but I'm not a big fan of the robot mode Megatron though.
Me too!
Much as the HISS tank is one of my most favourite GI Joe vehicles, this ain't great. The hollowness and crazy amount of kibble is a bit much. Bit surprised they included the Baroness as the drive rather than a HISS driver or Destro.
I'm just buying this for the HISS Tank and Baronness O-ring figure honestly. It's very accurate to the original vehicle and there is no messy stickers, everything is nicely printed.
The ST Commander and TFC MegaTank is still the best TF & GI Joe crossover interpretation IMHO.
Great video like always! After watching this video I canceled my preorder.
Thank you for this review.. I will be canceling my preorder ASAP..
How'd you get this? Isn't it not supposed to come out for another 6 months?
If you like throwbacks, maybe you should review some of Lego's older figure lines like bionicle or hero factory. Good video there, certainly agree with all of the criticisms. Think they should have created an original character like with previous crossovers.
The head sculpt is the best thing about that Megatron mode. The H.I.S.S. does look fantastic though.
What's with the Venture Industries logo on the side of the treads?
It's a Transformers character with G.I. Joe production values, so I'd say that's your crossover. It's pretty clear that you've never held any old scg ool Joe toys, because everything about this toy screams that. From the 'hollow' plastic to the typical rubber band holding the human action figure together. There is a certain appeal to that, just as the old G1 toys have their own appeal.
That's truly the dumbest excuse I've ever seen someone give for a company cheaping out on their products. This figure is absolute dogshit and you know it.
I see your point but this costs £90?! This is the same price as commander Motormaster & doesn’t have the same level of engineering nor plastic quality
@@PrimeVsPrime oh, no, it's stupidly overpriced, that's for sure. Which is also G.I.Joe
I still can’t wait to get him!!! The empty parts kinda suck, but over all, I still love it.
It's a fine figure for those who like it. Which is okay. For me unfortunately, the hollowness of this figure reminds me of the cheap hollow Transformers you see at a Walgreens. Megatron looks like he has an outie. The H.I.S.S. tank mode looks okay though. They could have done a better job with the backpack. Especially with the plastic hatch just hanging in the back for it to so easily break. Especially if it takes an accidental tumble from the shelf or just falls backwards real hard. The price just doesn't seem worth it.
Thanks for the review!!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Great coverage! Thank you! When this was announced, I was thrilled, but the more I see if it, the less keen on it I get. Your video was the first time I've ever seen more than just front-on, and that is WAAAAAAY too much kibble. Pass.
Thanks for the review, I'm really disappointed from the robot mode, I will consider drop my pre-order for this one and Bumblebee which looks to be very similar at the end.
Thank you for this review. Based on this, I am cancelling my order. For the price, they cannot cheap out on the plastic. 3P might be able to make an upgrade kit, but I'm afraid they'd have to remake the entire figure. Please update if the plastic does quickly yellow. I had high hopes for this, but I've already been let down.
Hasbro, why do you keep doing this kind of normalcy?
This figure's main market are adult collectors. Just sell it a higher price and make it a good figure.
definitely sacrificed megs to get that nice HISS alt form. First thing that stood out for me was the stubby little arms for megatron. Then we had that monster back. But getting the baroness and having her ride the turret in bot mode really made it good for me.
I guess this is why I got a cheap one off of EBAY coming to me (unopened). Someone probably saw the reviews and ditched it to try and make some money back on their purchase, because it was way cheaper then the rest of the Ebay sellers had it for.
Wish they had done Viper as the G.I.Joe crossover character. I have too many Megatrons.
I like the concept, however they could’ve definitely done better to merge the figure. It looks like someone just put a DNA kit on him and called it a “crossover” instead of it just flowing together.
man its sad to see the compromises hasbro had to make in order to afford the pay hasbro to license GIjoe to them
Got him transformed watching this. But the back piece doesn't snap on easy like yours seemed to, it just kinda sits on there, and there's gaps between the two pieces
You really have to force it in. There are small tabs on the cylinder that make it easier.
Now that is what you call an commander class figure
All the gijoe figures had the same elastic waist when I was a kid
That’s pretty cool haha
ALL the old 1980's GI JOE used that ruber band inside to hold the torso to the lower body. This was made JUST LIKE the old JI GOEs.
The O-ring rubber band waist on the GI Joe figures is how the original 1980's toys were made. I've snapped MANY a figure in half during play as a kid. The tank looks great. The Baroness looks fab. I agree, the robot mode of Megs just isn't the best. I think this figure's selling point is more for the GI Joe fans than it is for the Transformers fans.
"Elastic bands keeping the waist together. I've never seen that on an action figure. " .................... it was at this moment that I felt fucking old.
I personally don’t consider accessories to be partsforming, no matter how much they integrate into the vehicle. Of course, I probably still won’t pick this up for various reasons ranging from not really wanting another Megatron to the Baroness not lining up with my preferred scaling.
This cool video mister primevsprime
I was very eager for this and was willing to overlook a lot (weak design/low engineering/hollowness/high price point) just because of the concept. But yeah, this looks very KO quality and I'm feeling a bit insulted with the price. Cancelling my pre-order. I'll pick it up if it manages to go on sale or clearance, but I'm not willing to support this (lack of) effort at $90.
Cancelled mine too and the bumblebee awe striker which looks like it will be just as terrible as Megatron here
Great review, I think I will be canceling my pre-order on this one.
All the old 80s GI Joes has the elastic band like that.
I think I remember hearing that PvP does review QC/reject versions of the figures. So, yes PvP is kinda reviewing figures unreleased at the time through shifty means, but again they are mostly QC figures and prototypes so changes bound to happen! Hopefully good changes for this figure.
I bought this from a UK retail store - no QC rejects
@@PrimeVsPrime Oh, I see. Still if you do review QC products I think it's a good idea, if you can somehow work it with Hasbro so they can improve it for the final product.
with this, i think the yellowing would work in its favor by making it look vintage
It looks about the same height as TR Sixshot or SS86 Grimlock, maybe more size comparisons?
I look forwards to see the modders take on this megatron there are several things that can be done even by amature modders that will improve this figure by miles. I got one for a little under $100 including shipping and import so about $55
ITZ NOTHIN' LIKE "THA' ORIGINAL G-1 TRANSFORMERS","THEY ARE THA' ONES THAT ONLY MATTER"! 👁
I probably need to grab this!
I like the IDEA of this, but yeah... I would assume the hollowness and flimsiness is to offset that Megatron is scaled to GI Joe size and that it's not just a Transformer, but a Transformer WITH a fully accessorized GI Joe figure rerelease. That's a $20 figure right there nowadays. I also imagine that there was intentionality behind making Megatron keep a lot of the Hiss Tank look, with the cockpit for Baroness (why not Cobra Commander?!). You'd WANT the crossover look, not just a Megatron and a Baroness standing beside each other. Still, gonna' pass.
I am bummed. Comparing this with the classified hiss, it feels like I let down. I don’t really do 3 3/4 anymore despite being primarily a G.I.Joe collector. I will have the haslab hiss and my favorite Megatron is still
Combiner wars, so I think I am canceling my order.
Its a cool concept as i have never seen GI joe before, but the robot mode's hollowness + plastic quality + articulation problems really warn me away from it. Plus they could've come up with a new character instead of using megatron, like maybe basing the new character off transformers prime soundwave or vehicons
I don't mind the more simplistic paint since this is kind of an 80s cartoon crossover set. But that massive backpack and the extreme hollowness is... bad. I may cancel my preorder, seeing how bad this is. If I do end up getting it, I will probably just keep this one MIB since that presentation actually seems better than playing with the toy. 😞
I hope Bumblee will be better, but it's already looking disappointing in the shots.
Thanks for the comprehensive review!
I'm REALLY in the fence with this one. I love Transformers and GI Joe. They were my main franchises growing up. But I don't know if this is worth the price...especially with that Haslab Hiss tank.
Nice review!
Thank you!
Are you gonna do the Cang Toys King lion anytime soon?
Why why why would hasbro do such a poor job on this? Everything about this release says to me that the people that made it know next to nothing about transformers, the Joe crossover series, nor the standard level of quality or design of current figures. And then to charge so much money for something that they already own licenses to. This is just a blatant example of Shenanigans! Shame on hasbro!!
The Devil's Due Transformers vs. G.I. Joe actually had really cool crossover designs with many characters and Cobra vehicles that could have been used. I want the Optimus H.I.S.S. tank.
id honestly be really interested to know what happened with this thing. like was it just lazyness, or lack of actual care? lack of Funds? who knows, but obviously its extremely lacking for something that could have been a centerpiece, a bridge for 2 separate toyline collections.
