You know, this is kind of a shame because G2 Megatron was already a tank, and that upgrade was orchestrated in the comics by COBRA. This could have been the big purple and green love machine Megs and would have probably worked a lot better, but they went with G1 Buckethead and a HISS tank for brand recognition.

Speaking of brand recognition, the already green military vehicle turns into Bumblebee... Like not Hound, or even Beachcomber. No... It just HAD to be ANOTHER Bumblebee.

@@andrewbaker2144 shame might be a strong word, but like throw fans a bone. A GI Joe fan can appreciate a transforming vehicle without having to be treated like they've never heard of another franchise. The cuddly yellow buddy doesn't have to be retooled to be a military vehicle when they have one that is already either a military vehicle or a buggy that can just be made green. It could be a whole comic arc detailing Beachcomber going from pacifist to front lines because of some incident.

Or just have it be a tie in with G2 Megs, i am still getting the HISS tank because it will be Megatron with Cobra Commander on his back manning a turret. Baroness is probably going in a bin...

@@DiggitySlice It's definitely one of them, though. Half of the tank is just sort of hanging off the robot mode because they very clearly couldn't figure out any other way to reconcile it with G1 Megatron's design, beyond just having it form a sort of shell to hide all his gray in vehicle mode. They _almost certainly_ wouldn't have had to do any of this if they'd gone with a unique design for his robot mode that actually incorporated the kibble.

This thing reminds me of old Prime Wars Leaders, like Powermaster Optimus. Good altmode, but a robot mode that’s basically a cool-looking brick that has *just* enough articulation to be considered passable, and more hollowness than you can shake a stick at. Plus a big pet peeve of mine is when they incorporate the thigh rotation into the same part as the hip articulation so whenever you rotate the thigh you expose the mushroom peg and all the hollowness. It also limits articulation somewhat.

  • @VulpisFoxfire

The weird thing about this is...I don't remember Megatron ever turning into a HISS. In the GI Joe/TF crossovers I know of, he either became a more 'standard' tank (G2), stayed his normal self, or was frozen in his gun mode (Devil's Due). Optimus Prime, on the other hand, *did* end up as a Hiss in the Dreamwave comics, a red one--I'm trying to remember if someone's done that already, even a third party. (Of course, my favorite gag from the Devil's Due run was that while Cobra Commander has a form-locked Megatron as a sidearm, his *ride* was Starscream, turned into a Rattler (along with the other Seekers). Talk about walking to yourself... :-) )

    • @makutateridax584
      @makutateridax584 2 года назад

@@DoinItforNewCommTech Exactly. Where is the budget going on this? Is it all going to Baroness? Its definitely not going to the engineering because the figure transforms badly and has so much kibble hanging off the back and the articulation is worse than a deluxe figure. This set is still super easy to find at Australian retail (for several months now) & it looks to be shelf warming. Too bad they half-arsed this because it's probably the only crossover that really makes sense/works. This was never going to be great because it needed to cost twice as much for proper engineering to be implemented into the design.
The only good thing(s) is that you get a H.I.S.S. Tank with nice tampos (instead of the usual ugly/shiny stickers), and the retro O-Ring style Baroness. But as a Joe fan I already have a H.I.S.S. and OG Baroness, so all that's left is a hideous Megatron & some novelty.... no thanks, Hasbro.

The stinginess of the tooling is a bit much. The raw materials don't actually contribute much to the cost of a toy like this, if the bulk prices of plastic pellets are anything to go by, so Hasbro could easily have made it a $125 toy instead of a $120 toy and released a vastly superior product. Some hollowness is forgiveable when you need to make room for transformation and articulation joints to operate, but not when you're hollowing out the inside of the fists to save ten cents of plastic.

Now that's the price of a voyager figure they brand as leader class because Hasbro don't make full sized leader class figures for affordable prices anymore. Thank you for sharing!
I didn't want another H.I.S.S. but when this Megatron was first revealed I was very interested. That interest really dropped in the last couple months and I cancelled my pre order, though.
Lot of great points you brought up here.
The Baroness figure made the packaged less interesting to me. Having a G.I.Joe scale Transformer was the biggest appeal to me, especially being able to use figures interactively with it. The Real American Hero figures were always getting better sculpts as the line progressed from 1982-1994 and Hasbro should have pushed from that point versus just stamping out an "almost" just like the original. Again.
As A Real American Hero collector the H.I.S.S. vehicle is cool but kind of sucks in the 21st century. A "new" Megatron should have been more original in design and less angled to try and replicate the exact same regurgitated 1982-1985 years nostalgic stuff produced over the last 20-some years. The "double diablo" cannon should have simply been swapped for a special new turret entirely at best. Unless Cobra had a reason to hide Megatron among a series of H.I.S.S. tanks, stuff as much of the "classic" H.I.S.S. into form makes no sense. Even from the "storytelling" Hasbro reasoning thing, is Megatron an captured Cobra weapon here or what?
The G2 Megatron in the Marvel comics is mentioned throughout the comments here (and elsewhere) and I would have been much more interested if that story could have been expanded on in toy form.
Something more original that could update or advance A Real American Hero was needed but as nice as this is I just can't add this my collection right now just like I can't add another Duke or Snake Eyes.

My biggest gripe about this is that he should have been a generic land-based army builder like the Seekers are air-based army builders. Don't make him Megatron. Make him a grunt Decepticon and charge $80 for it and sell a bunch of them since the HISS tanks are generic cannon fodder too. Making it Megatron takes away from the army builder aesthetic and made me not want to buy it. I don't think Hasbro brand managers understand the minds of the people who buy the items.

Yeah I agree the ult mode is the best part. The robot mode doesn't do it for me with it being G1 Megatron with extra bulk. The shoulders are VERY large that it makes him look like he has tiny baby arms which doesn't do it for me visually. The backpack is a mess and I'm happy they made it detachable. The hollowness doesn't detract me as much as it should because of how it transforms, though I would have liked some panels to fold and clean up the legs. The commander class price tag of $120 CAD is a yikes from me as a fellow Canadian, but then again I have commander class Jetfire on my shelf so it's not that unreasonable. Out of the figures in the Collaborative series, this Megatron is by far the most cheap looking. The bland paint job combined with the extremely hollow limbs and giant backpack makes this figure look more like a knockoff that I’d find at the toy store in my local mall than an official Hasbro product. And it’s $90?! Jesus Christ.

If I had this I’d just leave the shoulder pads up in their “out of the way” configuration to make them point up like Core Megs and not crowd his arms

It's very nice but I already have 3 original G2 1992 green tanks Megatron's as it is!!!! And yeah once in a while for no reason at all they go off with that laser noise or that infamous: "Megatron Attack!!!" chant. Still this is rather, but I need the money more....Also I hear that the plastic count isn't the best either...

Though I much prefer Megatron as a G2 styled tank giving him a Hiss tank as alt mode is still a pretty fun idea. The human alliance aspect is neat, but unfortunately is what causes this toy to suffer the most. Looking at the other crossover TFs be it BTTF, Ghostbusters or even Jurassic Park even as pedestrian as the bot modes were there was no human alliance aspect to clutter the toy up or ridiculously upsize it. Probably would have fared better as a Voyager class with improved engineering. The hollowness of the figure even for the purpose of transformation is inexcusable for any toy at this price point.

Ah so that's the reason for the hollow parts. At least there's a reason. Not my cup of tea, but if they made a Soundwave or Shockwave version I'd consider it.

this one isn't a TransformersXgijoe toy, it's a GIJoe toy that is a transformers
it ain't worth all of the extra cash that went into making it a high-end transformers, but that's pretty much all that can be argued against him. also the hollowness

VERY cool ideas, but looks horrible to me... They should have changed the design to fit the alt mode better, and go for a more detailed look, at this scale the flat surfaces look horribly cheap. And they COMPLETELY changed Bulmblebee's design so no excuses..

This had so much potential to be AWESOME. Instead, it is a huge let down. Megatron has terrible articulation and all the gaps and lack of paint are terrible. The Baroness should have been the 25th Anniversary version from 2008 painted black, not that original mold from 1983 or 1984. That one looks terribly dated and isn't anything close to show-accurate. For the price, it should have been so much better.

I hate to be negative, but I fail to see the value in this figure. Where is the budget going on this? This figure is the same price of a Commander Class. Is it all going to Baroness? Its definitely not going to the engineering because the figure transforms badly and has so much kibble hanging off the back and the articulation is worse than a deluxe figure. Its also certainly not going to the paint or plastic because this thing is barely painted and its super hollow. Where’s the value in this figure?

This thing looked like absolute shit from the beginning. It's so low-effort it's almost funny! Gaps everywhere, the alt mode is just tacked-on despite the fact that they're both blocky 80s designs, and a mostly grey robot has an all-black alt mode. Not to mention the pathetic cannon attaching to the...hand? Terrible.
