I suggest the Himi Miya gouache over the arrtx ones. Only because the Himi have more primary colors vs pastel.

I'm glad you stopped, it looks beautiful! I love the style you ended up with for this. I hear you on the gouache thing, I haven't unlocked it yet either. I think because I use watercolors a lot, I approach it in that way and it never looks good. I love how this came out though, you look like you are more comfortable with gouache than you let on.😸✌💙🎨
I keep seeing youtubers use these paints and I'm getting closer and closer to getting a set to try out for myself.
Edit: I just went into Amazon and picked up the set, why keep looking at it and taking myself out of it?

I absolutely love how your wolf came alive instantly when you added in the black pupils.
I kno you said you are a beginner but your technique is flawless. The way you layered was really nice and makes me wish i could paint. So I'll just stick with copics and pencils. :) im sure the artist block will end with draw october prompts.

Gouache is a difficult paint to use, however, once mastered you have something that can act like watercolour, giving you washes and translucent hues, upto an oil paint consistency. I've put it on canvas with a pallet knife, and it's done OK, so long as you use it in its natural state, and don't use water, and giving it a goodly amount of time to dry.
Love the wolf, one of my favourite animals after Cats of course. I've shared my life with cats, dogs, and horses. Now, through a bad back injury, leaving me disabled, my stallion Saxon is now owned by my eldest daughter, and my Mare, a Clydsdale/Shire cross, Roma, my friend has her.
Now I have an Assistance Dog Fudge, and our 6 rescue cats!
Can't live without at least a, couple of feline friends to curl up with and chat too when my partner is out.

I have these (or the same exact thing under a different name.) I loved them when I first used them. When I went to use them some weeks later, they had dried and shrunk. 30 ml - not so much once that happens.
Amazing art! (Swoon) I have Jelly gouache-to help keep it creamy and from drying out, spritz the entire palette with water before you close it as the lid is not completely airtight, also Sally is so lovely!
Every artist can relate to just sitting in their studio with your art supplies and then just having no idea what to draw.

Speaking of art motivation, I TOTALLY feel you. What you described is EXACTLY what I've been feeling for literal years. For me, part of it stems from seeing other artists make PHENOMENAL work almost effortlessly and feeling inadequate. Keep it up!

I really like the wolf and the whole piece came out very nicely. Very wise to take projects one at a time. It's way too easy to get overwhelmed if trying to do too much at once.

You are not the only person suffering right now from lack of creativity. Times are tough and I think everyone has melancholy. I know I've been hit hard with art block, and I see a lot of people also saying the same thing on social media.

That painting turned out so well. I really like it ♡. I want gouache SO BADLY and I've wanted it since I first used it nearly 20 years ago! I was in art school (I dropped out, so don't read this as a flex lol) and I had a teacher show me a technique where you take white gouache, and your watercolour set, and use white gouache to blend the watercolours from their purest pigment colour, to white. It worked SO WELL! I've never seen a more flawless blend in my life, and it was me who did it. I've since gotten really into watercolours and a day doesn't go by where I don't long for a tube of white gouache lol. I'm not sure if I'll be able to emulate what I did long ago, but I _reeeeeeally_ want to try.
Anyway, my point in all this is, you should try playing around with watercolour and gouache together and that may make you happier than just gouache on its own ^-^♡♡

As you were painting I was thinking, she should add some red and then all of a sudden you did. The red really changed it, looks great. I love how you did the green wash first. I always forget to try that. Love your videos, always look forward to them every week :)

Uuuh~ this Jelly Gouache set has some super nice colors! I have one from Himi and the colors are a bit different, but I really like them. The creaminess is just really nice. Also, I have to admit I like it that I don´t need to take my gouache from the tubes because I can just use them right away. Really love your painting!

That's so adorable! I think you're an amazing artist! Mira Byler said after a few months of sitting on her shelves the paints didn't work as well and needed to be activated to use again. I'd love to hear what your opinion is in a few month's time using the jelly cups again~!
I have heard people say art block and not liking what you create is due to skill level. It's when you're about to "level up" and make a big improvement in your art. You know what you'd like to do, or need to study to get the picture in your head to come onto the paper, but it's just not coming out. When it happened to me, I listed specifically what I'd like to improve on and studied it in a different medium (sometimes a change of pace can help!). When I went back to what I wanted to create, my skills improved and I was happier with what I was creating. This worked for me, at least. Hopefully, it can help someone else too.

I drew Kattober day one on Oct 1 and drew days two thru four today (Oct 4). Haven't posted any yet, but I would love to see a Kattober tour at the end of the month!
I bought the Miya Himi Jelly Gouache and they have more jeweled toned colours. The Arrtx sells more of the pastel tones. I might get those next instead of buying the case of 24 colours of Himi. I bought mine via Amazon where one can also get the 80ml jelly cups too. I transfer some of the colours to a half pan palette for ease of use ( when I finish what's in the half pans then I refill them with more gouache). You create such Exquisitely amazing Artwork. TY for sharing

I love gauche! I won’t lie, not super tempted to get these art supplies, mostly because my own failings as a disastrously messy human... but i love hate piece you created with it, and i also think it is great to challenge yourself with a bigger piece. I am often guilty of trapping myself in a small space mostly because i am very impatient.... very impatient and messy person ha ha ha.

If it helps, I get the same way with my writing. Writer's block just makes it so that I either cannot create anything or just don't like what I do create. Sometimes I even hate my writing! It will pass, though. This too shall pass! Besides, I think your art is amazing! So beautiful! Just take some time out and do other things you enjoy whilst coming back to art every now and then. You can do it! I believe in you!

In school we went through crash courses on all the most predominant mediums used in industry, and a lot of people who use gouache along with watercolors. Since gouache tends to crack if over layered/thickly applied. If used alone most of the time it’s going to be used to create more bold artwork than detailed, so it’s definitely a medium that takes time to understand since it’s not like watercolor nor acrylic! But I’ve seen fellow artists use all three to make a painting

I think that make was the first, but anyone can correct me if I’m wrong - be nice though! 🥴 Sally, as ever, melted my heart. My own cat Lily isn’t so laid back (rescued from awful conditions), and randomly panics and gallops 🐎 (no other word will do) away, with paws sounding like she’s wearing shoes. She has deigned to live with me for 9 years now and has kept me sane during the tough times of late. Cats are simply the best.
