Since the first All-Star Game in 1933, there have been 12 players who didn't make the AS team, but ended up with MVP honors. Most recent was Bryce Harper in 2021.
That is wonderful news. Congratulations on the new assignment and thanks for all of the great content, Samantha and Ashley. Always think of the great quote from John Sterling when talking about the unpredictability of baseball, 'that's baseball, Suzyn.'⚾
I agree with Ashely on the Lindor MVP campaign & the Bret Baty situation. if the Mets don't resign Pete for w/e moronic reason, then I would say put Baty at third base for the entire year with no interruptions (unless he gets injured) & let him figure it out. No call downs, no nothing because let's be honest some ball players works better if they know they were given a proper chance without interruptions. If he doesn't have it, then he doesn't have it, he would either stay in triple A for the rest of his career or the Mets move on from him & get something in return. Great show discussion as always ladies. #LFGM #STOPHATINGONSMILES
Citi Field is my #2 next to PNC in Pittsburgh. Much of this is the food choices - it's super quality with local vendors. I have been to Milwaukee County, Arlington Stadium, Kingdome, T-Mobile, Mile High, Big A, Petco, Rogers, and Stade Olympique.
Agree with intern Dan. The management of the pitching staff has been bad all year - both starters and relievers. Mendoza has made some mistakes on offense, but repeated and year long errors with pitching decisions will cost Heff his job after the season. Stearns shares in the blame too.
Mets catch a break. Austin Riley's MRI revealed a right hand fracture and he's expected to miss 6-8 weeks. The MRI on Nimmo's right shoulder came back clean Monday, and he's considered day-to-day, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Fans are starting to complain coaches aren't doing a good enough job when our pitching is not great and or scoring runs aren't to expectations. Should fans hold players or the coaches accountable for the teams lack of consistency or even their energy levels at times looking kinda lifeless? Should they have someone making these observations to determine who plays and who rests? During the Ruku broadcast Anthony Recker made a comment about Alvy when he was quickly put into the game and him not being ready to play when he couldn't prevent the stolen base and just didn't seem ready throughout the rest of the game. I mention it because 1 of my main frustrations with this group is when a game first starts, our hitters don't take competitive at bats, often several innings or more before they finally look awake. We often struggle to get a win when I notice this.
it's not now or never, but they need to play like it is. Also, when I told my wife that Anthony Recker was in the booth, she asked "the hot guy with the butt?"
McNeil is supposed to be a professional baseball player and also supposed to be a team player. It is his job, in that situation, to lay down a proper bunt and advance the runners. Had he done that, Lindor‘s 400 foot fly ball ties the game. That is the game of baseball as it was meant to be played and it’s his job to get it done. He’s too selfish. A team player would have gotten it done to help the team.
The reason you Don't Bunt McNeil is because MLB players today don't know how to Bunt! As Keith says, Fundies!! And today's players don't have them. McNeil looked like a kid in little league trying to Bunt for the first time ever. And Garret stinks. Faces 4 batters and walks 3 vs Marlins. See Ya!! DFA this guy.
That's what they're flirting with right now. With these almost wins that end up with really hurting losses. The bullpen in that last game with the Marlins. That just can't happen with guys like Huascar and Garrett. Just no. Their stuff is too good and too powerful for them to be trying to be so fine with their pitches. After Huascar threw that wild pitch, all of a sudden he threw a 100 mph fast ball right to the lower outside corner for a strike. That blows my head. With both him and Garrett, my message to them is, THROW YOUR DARN FASTBALL. They both have that high velocity heat in the arsenal but don't use it like they should. Then that atbat with McNeil with NO Outs with 2 MEN on base. That was just ridiculous. Just a way to stink up the inning. I thought they were going to win it. He's like the best guy to do it with. Instead he puts away his bat to try and bunt smh. I almost knew right there that they were going to ruin it. I also thought he was going to show bunt and bring it back to hit 1 of those very hittable pitches that were thrown at him. He could have easily poked 1 of those pitches for a game tying hit but no. I was not a fan of sacrificing an out there for a bunt. That's McNeil. He could've worked a walk or the count to a good place to get himself a good pitch. Then Lindor after that then I had a for certain sense that it was over. I almost knew that Vientos might strike out. I tell you girls. I think out of every game I watched this season, this is the one that really enraged me. I couldn't help myself. It was automatic. I wish I would have had a heavy bag. I was in fumes. They let this slow tossing pitcher stifle their offense like that. Common now. I'm only up to 2:35 in this video and I stopped to vent this.
I hate when a soft tossing pitcher like that just stifles the entire lineup like that. The Mets allow for him to get into their heads instead of the Mets just having him figured out from the beginning. They have to be more relaxed and patient to wait more and not try todo too much with the pitch. They can destroy that pitcher but instead they make him look like Tim Wakefield or some all star pitcher. The Mets lineup could be so much more dangerous if they humble themselves and all do less rather than trying todo more. When you are trying todo more you will have so much more of a chance todo less or nothing. If only the entire lineup could get on board with each other to NOT try to hit homeruns and just make leveled ajustable contact with where and how the balls are pitched to them.
I'm not surprised at all, the Mets just can't dominate the crappy teams. It's been like this the last decade or so. Doesn't matter who's on the team, or whose managing. Could it be a scouting problem? I think Stearns mentioned he's revamping the scouting department. You just can't be facing these rookie, triple A pitchers with era's in the 5's and 6's and look like you've never seen a baseball before. I understand facing a new pitcher isn't easy to time, but other teams are pummeling them. It's just unacceptable....and don't expect them to win the White Sox series. That team may end up the worst ever in baseball, it's only fitting they will sweep the Mets. Whenever the Mets are under pressure to dominate, they usually fail to deliver. I wouldn't be surprised though if they beat San Diego, and Arizona. They'll be in it until the very last series. I think Nunez is the most important piece. If he can stay healthy, and continue to pitch like he has, they'll compete. Does anyone know the Mets record since he's been down? I agree with Dan, I think Mendoza will start using Butto now like a regular reliever, and not wasting his innings.
The BROZABAN wild pitch could have been prevented if TORRENS had blocked the ball with his body instead of taking a swipe at it with his mitt. McNEIL made a perfect throw from leftfield and ALVAREZ couldn't hold on to the ball but if he or the pitcher had gone after the ball and tagged the runner he could have been called out because he didn't touch the plate.
Sunday's loss to the MARLINS was pitiful, disgusting and poorly managed by MENDOZA in the ninth inning. Once McNEIL failed to bunt the first time, he should have let him swinf away because he has been hitting pretty well lately.

You are undefeated

Yup. That's definitely the feeling right now because it's true to say the least. And now I will go on to listen to you 2 ladies.
Love hearing this
Congrats on the new job!

Yes the food at Citi is unmatched. PNC is our #1 also

Spot on James. Totally agree.
Samantha. - Much Success on your new role.
Ashley - Don't bunt with players who can't bunt.

NO BUNTING

Always prefer GKR of course but honestly thought the Roku broadcast with Recker was decent
👍

And Austin Adams hurt his arm and now on the IL. Karma

You girls are sweet talking about baseball and the team I happen to root for.

I think there were firings in the scouting department just this week so you may be on to something. Agreed that they need Nunez back desperately
Gibson won the MVP in 1988 with the Dodgers and was not on the All Star game. Strawberry should have won it he got robbed
