100% should've been. Vince hated the English and was never going to allow an English world champion, though. Always said it, and it always held true. Regal and Barrett should've both won the belt, and I have never, ever bought that BS rumor that Regal was gonna win the title off of winning KOTR. Nothing about that run suggested anything of the sort. He never treated Regal as anything but undercard fodder.
Plus, his quick little involvement with Drew McIntyre awhile back during his feud with Punk was a nice touch. Absolutely love when WWE do little moments like that to remind people how the wrestlers behind the scenes are friends. Like when Big Show was attacking William Regal to get to Sheamus as they had a close friendship too.
When you go back to that time, it’s amazing how they fumbled. Could you imagine if they put the heavyweight title on him around the same time they gave it to Punk, then had them both hold it for a couple years till they were ready to unify the title. Two dudes with multi year long reign as a world champion and then they also have history they could tell with both being former Nexus leaders.
Wade is what Drew McIntyre has turned out to be. Imo, If WWE had the same patience and given Wade (during Bad news run) the push Drew got i think Wade would've succeeded and become a big player in the company..
Wade Barrett was already made. He didn’t need his Bad News run. If all they did was make him a credible opponent to John Cena (like Edge and CM Punk), Barrett could have had a Hall of Fame run.
@ you could really say that about a lot of the decisions Vince made last minute. Still on the topic of mitb imagine he actually went with Aleister Black/Ali instead of Otis/Brock
He should have won the briefcase in 2013 instead of Sandow, Cena was champion at the time it would be interesting to see Barrett get revenge on Cena for the Nexus
Sandow never been booked properly as well, always treated as a comic relief instead of an actual intelectual guy, that's not how you build a top heel PG era side effects
Wade makes a great point about Money In The Bank. Made me think. Why have they never done a Money In The Bank story, where the holder is a babyface and the Champion is a heel with a faction. Every week, the faction assault the money in the bank holder every week, so stop him cashing in. Which kinda forces them to announce the cash in ahead of time like RVD did. If done right, you'd have an underdog babyface with overwhelming support.
wade barrett shouldve been wwe champ damn near 15 years ago. shit is actually ridiculous how underrated this dude is. he had the same aura as a cena or orton. he felt big time.
I don't care what anyone says while criticizing him, I want Barrett back in wrestling again. Just give him an amazing brutual Signature and Brutual Finisher Manuer. Send him as a full-blown heel, redo Nexus, make everyone be strongly booked in matches in incredible storylines, and finally Wade Barrett becomes your NEEEEWWWW WWE CHAMPION!
It's crazy too imagine how such an amazing match between Taker and Hunter, that continues the story of Taker and Shawn for a third year, wasn't the original idea. But when Wade talks about the build up it totally makes sense. Insane.
Nexus interfering in the Buried Alive match was pointless if it wasn't going to lead to anything. Vince didn't want Taker to lose clean to Kane for a third match in a row so probably that's why they interfered
The funniest part of this to me is that I was looking for T-shirts from my favorite eras of WWE and saw a Corre shirt online and said "Oh yeah I remember that" and bought one. Once I went back and watched some of their matches........
What I gathered from this is that even backstage these guys were treated like jobbers at first when they should’ve been trying to make the next generation of wrestlers. I feel so bad for him because he could’ve been a main eventer twice and both times they messed it up. I love drew as a Scot but I’d been happy with wade as a uk WWE champ
That could be one of the biggest "What ifs" in WWE history. What if Wade Barrett won MOTB, as originally planned? Would Barrett have gotten the singles push he needed/deserved? Would Daniel Bryan still reach mega star status and start the "YES" movement?
Wade was actually the only one out of Nexus I wanted to see thrive. I think it was that James Bond persona that I liked. Similar to how I always liked Nigel McGuiness' football punk persona.
I'll never understand how this guy wasn't one of the biggest superstars, dude had height, was built, good looking and has a voice of a supervillain. Honestly still cant believe it lol.
Are you forgetting that he was injury prone? That was what curtailed his career. There were many occasions when he got pushed but he'd get injured prematurely.
It's so funny that Money In The Bank 2011 has the feel of being one of those events WWE threw a bone at their hardcore fandom - Punk winning post-pipebomb, Bryan winning MITB, Christian winning the title back from Orton - and all those decisions I'm sure were completely consequential lmao
I like Barrett and I agree he didn’t quite hit the heights he deserved (great commentator now though) but Triple H/UT was where the money was and was a part of the HBK/UT storyline. That was an incredible four year saga.

definetly yes, his run as the bad news barrett was so good.
It’s a good thing Wade Barrett didn’t let his bad experiences with WWE ruin his relationship with the company. I like him on Commentary each week.
One of the few that gets it
He's smart, and talented enough that he could smoothly transition from wrestler to commentator.

Wade was horribly misused. What a fumble.

So much wasted potential.

That they didn't "let" Nexus change in the locker room is just such a great encapsulation of everything wrong with WWE in the 2000s and 2010s.
I didn’t know the locker room culture was toxic even back in 2010, I though things changed liked in late 2008 when it became PG
