Loss of power to the hot tub during any freezing periods can also cause hot tub water to freeze since the pump and heater cannot heat or circulate the water to prevent it from freezing. If a portable hot tub is going to be unused during a winter season in cold climates, it should be drained and winterized to prevent the water inside from freezing while not in use.
