It's a great book, flawlessly narrated. What really strikes me about the story is how much courtroom drama is down to lawyers using every tactic in the book to prove their case. One lawyer is trying to prove somebody innocent, and the other is trying to prove him guilty - and so much of the action comes down to trickery, subterfuge and amateur dramatics to convince the jury one way or the other. Things like making a statement that a lawyer knows in advance will be objected to and withdrawn - but he says it anyway so that the jury will hear it before it is withdrawn - and will be affected by it even though it is illicit and quite possibly false. Things like getting a "silent witness" who will never be asked to participate, but is there to frighten a witness who knows that this silent witness knows things that could be damaging to him - but he doesn't know that this person will not be called on to testify. Whether the accused is guilty or innocent has very little to do with whether he is *_proved_* guilty or innocent. There must be a lot of innocent people in jail, and lots of bad criminals who have been tried, and are walking the streets.

This is another gripping and well-crafted tale by a top author. I grew up in the Hancock Park neighborhood, two blocks over from the murder site on Windsor Blvd. I enjoy how Connelly's books accurately describe the neighborhoods and landmarks of Los Angeles. This recording had a distracting musical interlude around time stamp 10:00 -- I had to wait patiently for the story to wrap up.
When I listen to Michael Connelly books i see Titus Welliver Lance Reddick Jamie Hector Amy Aquino Mdison Lintz Troy Evans and all the cast and the story is elevated in my imagination. Just like Ian Rankin and the Rebus books the characters stay with you and its like your walking alongside them so vivid is the story Connelly is a outstanding author and how about Bosch and Rebus doing some work together Mr Connelly cheers from Scotland

Book 3 means the third book in series. Bosch has maybe 20 books over many years. If you read the Grey Man series there are 12 or 13 books. Each can stand alone but there are references back to earlier stories. Bosch in later books story brings up health problems that go back to earlier books. Same way the daughters grow up and interlink the family. Always a good story but there is more going on.

Yeah, time gap was around 5 minutes and a bit - great story though and very well narrated
