The Glory Of Christmas - Crystal Cathedral - full length

- Live performance of The Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral, filmed for television in 1992. This is the Christmas story as it was meant to be told, with wonderful performances, ballet, and many fine singers (singing virtually every sacred Christmas carol). Fyi, the first near-4 minutes are a rather dull intro which can be skipped, especially if playing this for children. In fact if you want to go straight to the Christmas carols, start at about the 22nd minute - but you will be missing some great scenes such as when the angel appears to Mary. When I used to attend these performances at the Crystal Cathedral, people of all faiths attended. I hope people of all faiths will enjoy the video too.
Btw the only difference in the performances I attended in the late 90s from this 1992 performance was that in the two 'crescendo' scenes where the angels fly across the auditorium, in the later years the number of angels were increased to eight - a thrilling sight to see them darting and swooping overhead!
PS - As of July 2023 this video should be ad-free. Please notify me if you are seeing ads. Thanks!
I played a shepherd boy, while my sister was one of the flying angels for a few years. The grass outside the Cathedral was trampled, and muddy during the weeks the play went on because of all the animals used. They were a good church, sharing life-relevant, positive messages through hope in Jesus. Thanks for posting this; it brought back good childhood memories.
I use to go to that school back in the day as well as attend to performances
crazy how they went bankrupt, good times right here
My mom was in it every year, she loved it. It was a wonderful time seeing her enjoy herself so much.
We probably know each other! My sis and I were Shepherd children, dancers... oh and my friend Stephanie and I were wives of King Harod. I was angel when I was old enough in 90 and 91. I remember going to to the where the animals were. Even have a photo of me on a camel 🐪 And relent the dinners downstairs?! Lol Good days!
Really a grand nativity play! Is there a good friday & easter play too?
@@focm888 There was! It was called "The Glory of Easter, " but I was never in it.
WOW INDEED MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS ,HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS
Its not Christmas until this is watched. I remember my grandma who's in Heaven now, taking us to watch this EVERY year it was in production. And I still remember as a child how mesmerizing this was. REALLY SHOULD BRING IT BACK. If not there, at least somewhere where people can attend a production as amazing as this and see the true meaning of Christmas again.
I went to this several times. I didn't attend the church but went with a family that did. We always had fantastic seats. I am not religious but this show started my love of theater. It was really well done. I remember the atmosphere always being so sooo well done and all the sounds and smells. It really was just awesome.
From 1984 to 1992 I was in this production and the Glory of Easter. I was an angel twice... such beautiful memories. Watching this takes me back to childhood, family traditions. How time passes so quickly. Glad I could see it here and reminisce. Merry Christmas 🎄 My friend Stephanie Gorman was in this with me - miss you Stephanie!!
Were you one of the angels flying around in the sky? Went a few different years as a kid, definitely at some point between 90-92. Was quite a show in a beautiful building.
This was my first Glory of Christmas show, I was supposed yo play the scribe but it went to Robbie instead.
@@dagonn3 yes I was 😀 And I was an Angel in 90 and 91. Maybe you saw me flying!
@@kellykirk9042 hey! I know Robbie!!
@@koolaid772 after Mike McClanahan died robbie took over his job in charge of the Roman's, I would sometimes suit up in the costume a play a soldier, but out of all the people who played Thomas in the Easter show he was still the best, Eddie was the best blind man much better then the guy in the Easter video, but he was a little intense back stage when he was playing judas, while I was playing Simon the disciple, watching the movie versions take me back all those years ago
I had the pleasure of awe to attend at least one performance... and then it was gone - sad to say. It has been missed - and I'm Jewish - as was Jesus. Soooo grateful for finding this video.
My Nana took me to see this and the Easter one. Loved them both. So they don't do this performance anymore, huh? How sad.
My family and I watched this at least once every December from 1993 to the early 2000's. There truly hasn't been anything like since. I miss it so much, but at least we can see it here. Thank you so much for posting.
It was so POWERFUL I HAD TO SEE IT TWICE
I am Wiccan and I find this absolutely beautiful... No matter what Faith you are you can find the beauty and glory in every corner of life... I recorded this in the late 90's for my children... We sat and watched this wonderful show as a family... Blessed be to you... ♡
I was stationed in Long Beach on the USS Ogden (LPD-5) from 1986 to 1990. My friend Mike and I attended the Christmas Service at Crystal Cathedral around 1987. I was flabbergasted and overcome by the brilliance and size of the place and the pageant. I thought it was going to be overbearing and "Hollywood-ish," It wasn't at all. It was beautiful, majestic and dead serious about Christ's birth. I was absorbed into the story and all I could think of was what Jesus had done for us and how humble it made me feel, forgive my selfishness. I'm not afraid to admit I had tears streaming down my face thinking about Jesus. The pageant became kind of hazy in the background and my thoughts were on the immensity of Christ's sacrifice. I felt an overwhelming need to hit my knees and pray. The spirit there was that strong. It was far more magnificent than Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Special. I miss pastor Schuller.
My name is Elvira Bernabe and I had the privilege of being a Cast member for both the Christmas and Easter plays at the original Crystal Cathedral for many years so watching these videos brings back many happy memories!
Is this show still running there?
My sister and I would go as kids as our Christian school would take us every year as a field trip.
I was in it too! From 84-92 😃So many memories ! Watching it takes me back - I could recall the dinners and everything behind the scenes. Missing those years!
My grandma had this taped on a VHS. I watched it with her every Christmas as a kid. Great memories! 😊❤️
I had the privilege of being a member of the cast in this production of the Glory of Christmas...as well as the Easter play......what joy it was.....
What years? I was in both too. My mom was one of the head ushers and my dad was part of traffic and then some years he was an usher. Time goes by so fast!
My family attended this program every year, from 1987 to about 2003.. seeing it reminds me of my dear mother, who now rests, sleeping until His return.
Thank you for uploading this! I watched this every Christmas with my grandma on an old recorded VHS tape. Brings back so many memories! ❤️❤️
What an amazing show. I was blessed enough to see this show and The Glory of Easter a few times. What a tragedy that there’s nothing like it today.
i miss this show, i went every year, it was tradition
I thought I would never see this again as my tape copy was fading away. I'm happy to be able to share this with family again every Christmas.
This video brought so many happy memories from Christmas past.
I loved this beautiful nativity play. I have seen a live one since they did this every year in 2003 or something. My dad got the tape and dvd and we would watch this every year on Christmas Evening as a tradition. I will carry this tradition when I live on my own.
im so so sorry that the GOC and GOE are no longer running. I grew up as a dancer in these shows...14 years, 7 of those as the male soloist. Dr Schuller, RIP "God Loves you and so do I!" Thanks Dorrie
What is GOC and GOE?

I love ❤️ this video it’s so beautiful
A magnificent one-of-a-kind living Nativity. I was an volunteer usher on this production for years and never got tired of seeing the performance. We had folks from all over the world come to see it and they all left amazed and moved. No other theatre venue quite like the all-glass Crystal Cathedral and the fabulous music backed up with the 17,000 pipe Hazel Wright Organ.
My mom Deborah worked with the ushers! Miss this place and miss these productions. Merry Christmas!
I participated in this play numerous times as well as the Easter.
I played both a shepherd and a hotel owner's wife in the 1995-1996 production runs, and loved leading a baby camel and baby donkey on stage, and befriending them.
I saw the production of this between 2001 and 2003. With both my moms (biological and adopted), my dad (adopted), my sister, and grandparents. It was really amazing.
Yes i really enjoyed it never understood why went it was being done why they kept raising up the tickets
Just so beautiful
You should post the late Thrul Ravencroft doing One Solitary Life from this one it's own video...
I remastered my own I’m a director my biblekids travel in time they experience about the true meaning of Christmas
This is a beautiful performance for Christmas!!!🤗💗🎄👍
Thank you for this!! I had taped it years ago when DirecTV had it on. We don't own a VCR anymore and I have really missed watching this.
You are so welcome 🥰 Beautiful memories of Christmas past.
This is a Tops Play ---
I was so very privileged to see three times ---
Also the joy of meeting all of the Schuller 's themselves and taken photos with them...❤️

In Christ
This was my first goc production I was in the cast from 91 thru 2001, played just about every non principle role over that time. I was a spot op for one of the goe productions and got to fly once. My last show I played the disciple Simon for the run.
I'm so lucky to have seen The Glory of Easter when I was a kid. I miss this church from 1999-206
I had the opportunity to see the performance in the 1990's

i have been looking for this for years. I had video taped it, but had given it away.
So the Crystal Cathedral no longer puts on this show? I remember watching this show every year as a kid. Our school would take us on a field trip. This was in the 90s when my sister and I were kids
I love Nativities and this show is ultimately spectacular. very amazing show with live animals, ballets, and Angels flying over the audience. Can this show be broadcast on cable channel ?I'd love see it on TV. Send more spectacular shows like this next year if can. I love it!

Any idea where I can find sleep holy child lyrics that’s such an amazing song
Here are some links to check out, based on the John Peterman carol. The third one has several people sharing their versions. (Not sure if there are any differences!)

Nevertheless,MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY
Ok try again,MERRY CHRISTMAS
who`s singing what child is this ........nice voice
I believe that was Tara Sinclair who sang that. Lyndie Nitkin sang Silent Night and Tony Saucedo sang What Can I Give Him. Sorry for being a year late with this reply.
Is the music a sound track or is it a live orchestra?
I believe the narrator and the orchestra were a sound track, but the singers were live.
@@oliphantfiction5144 Only the narrator was a sound track, there was a live orchestra and of course the HUGE pipe organ that was used live.. I was there in 2004, saw it live.

I don't mean to contradict anyone, but there was never a live orchestra for The Glory of Christmas. There was not a single square inch of the Cathedral to place an orchestra. All the tracks were pre-recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. I was told this by the director, Paul David Dunn, in 1990. Also, the massive pipe organ was NOT used for the performance. In fact, the console (the keyboards that control the thousands of pipes) was lowered into a chamber beneath the stage to get it out of the way. The show was incredibly expensive to mount, and in fact was one of the reasons the Cathedral when bankrupt. To hire a full orchestra for the dozens of performances they did every year would be far, far too expensive. Plus, no orchestra in the world could keep up with that kind of schedule. It was performed every night for over a month. On weekends, they did THREE performances per night. There is a good video here on RUclips that explains the infrastructure of the show. It's titled "The Making of the Glory of Christmas."
who played baby jesus?
The original baby died of Sudden infant death syndrome during the production of this season. The baby was forever replaced with a doll after.
Why was this presentation so expensive for the normal person that we could not afford it
The government's criticisms echo those of some survivors and concern Francis' omission of any reference to the sexual abuse suffered by Indigenous children in the schools, as well as his original reluctance to name the Catholic Church as an institution bearing responsibility.Jul 28, 2022
My CHRISTMAS HAS BEEN RUINED,BUT IM PLANNING MY OWN NEW CHRISTMAS AND MINE ENEMIES BEST STAY AWAY
Sad to say the little baby died just after this was filmed, GofC cast members 91-01
Awww how sad. What happened to the baby?!
@@koolaid772 if I remember correctly they dedicated a performance for him, I believe his name was Brandon but I'm not sure
They used a doll from then on, it was so heartbreaking. Sweet little Angel still...I believe it was SIDS
Elizabeth was Mary's COUSIN not her sister
Yes, and "cousin" was used in the loose sense -- kinswoman.
