This 2-part documentary is extremely well made and covers the project's work, as well as a great deal of information already known about Stonehenge. Live performance of The Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral, filmed for television in 1992. This is the Christmas story as it was meant to be told, with wonderful performances, ballet, and many fine singers (singing virtually every sacred Christmas carol). Fyi, the first near-4 minutes are a rather dull intro which can be skipped, especially if playing this for children. In fact if you ...

    You’d think that with their amazing capabilities of working with Stone, Wood and Rope. That their ‘Tailoring’ would’ve be better than a manky loincloth. I’m sure they would’ve been better dressed and a hellava lot cleaner than portrayed.

    RUclips once had copies of the first Playhouse 90 episode "Forbidden Area", with Charlton Heston, Tab Hunter, Diana Lynn, Vincent Price, and Victor Jory as the stars of the play. RUclips kept deleting that show because of content from Sony Pictures. What did Sony Pictures have to do with the episode being deleted from RUclips? Please respond to to my question here.

    • @oliphantfiction5144
      @oliphantfiction5144 3 месяца назад

      Good news - Forbidden Area is available on Internet Archive along with several more Playhouse 90s, including others also directed by John Frankenheimer. Here is a link to the search results using the keywords playhouse 90: archive.org/search?query=playhouse+90&and%5B%5D=mediatype%3A%22movies%22 People might want to make a backup copy, either using the download option on the page or by screen capture. Just fyi, screen capturing of full-length 2-hour+ videos is not easy - the free apps often flake out if the video is more than 10 minutes. After reviewing several paid apps a couple of years ago I bought a lifetime license for Screen Recorder Pro (aka ApowerRec screen recorder) from Apowersoft.com for $59.95 and have been very happy with it - lots of options and excellent quality. (If interested in buying something similar, google "best screen capturing apps" to compare products and reviews.)

    I was stationed in Long Beach on the USS Ogden (LPD-5) from 1986 to 1990. My friend Mike and I attended the Christmas Service at Crystal Cathedral around 1987. I was flabbergasted and overcome by the brilliance and size of the place and the pageant. I thought it was going to be overbearing and "Hollywood-ish," It wasn't at all. It was beautiful, majestic and dead serious about Christ's birth. I was absorbed into the story and all I could think of was what Jesus had done for us and how humble it made me feel, forgive my selfishness. I'm not afraid to admit I had tears streaming down my face thinking about Jesus. The pageant became kind of hazy in the background and my thoughts were on the immensity of Christ's sacrifice. I felt an overwhelming need to hit my knees and pray. The spirit there was that strong. It was far more magnificent than Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Special. I miss pastor Schuller.

      Unfortunately no. Internet Archive has several Playhouse 90s, though not that one, which were the personal copies of John Frankenheimer (I believe). It is possible the current owner of the Frankenheimer videos might post more later, but the Last Clear Chance had a different director. Note, there is a Studio One with Lee Remick: The Death and Life of Larry Benson. I found it by searching IA on Lee Remick, then clicked on Movies.

Unfortunately none of the 6 episodes of Robert Montgomery Presents and 6 episodes of Kraft theatre television in which Lee appeared are available anywhere online

      I don't mean to contradict anyone, but there was never a live orchestra for The Glory of Christmas. There was not a single square inch of the Cathedral to place an orchestra. All the tracks were pre-recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. I was told this by the director, Paul David Dunn, in 1990. Also, the massive pipe organ was NOT used for the performance. In fact, the console (the keyboards that control the thousands of pipes) was lowered into a chamber beneath the stage to get it out of the way. The show was incredibly expensive to mount, and in fact was one of the reasons the Cathedral when bankrupt. To hire a full orchestra for the dozens of performances they did every year would be far, far too expensive. Plus, no orchestra in the world could keep up with that kind of schedule. It was performed every night for over a month. On weekends, they did THREE performances per night. There is a good video here on RUclips that explains the infrastructure of the show. It's titled "The Making of the Glory of Christmas."
