The Glory of Christmas show at the Crystal Cathedra was amazing. Someone mentioned the flying angels, and my father in law commented (quite loudly) "it looks like they are flying like a bat out of hay." Oh my. If I could have sunk into the floor I would have. I seem to remember they had live animals in the show as well. I was so sorry to see the Crystal Cathedral having financial difficulties and it seems like the family was somewhat divided after Robert Schuller passed away. Anyway, thanks as always for the wonderful video.
Although I'm Catholic I would watch Robert Schuler on TV. Great orator and preacher. I loved born free as it went with the movie about the lions in Africa. I went to a Christmas show at the Crystal Cathedral when it was still under Schuler's ownership and it was so impressive, angels flying from the ceiling, just special. RIP to the Schuler family and all buried at the unique cemetery.
Your story telling is always interesting. So many revelations in this episode, Thurl Ravenscroft’s voice is so recognizable, thanks for pointing it out. The Crystal Cathedral is an architectural gem.
Another amazing video you guys! Rev. Schiller a good man and the cathedral is beautiful. Who hasn't seen "Born free"! Thanks Mr. Williams. Here in Georgia, Marie Callender foods are popular. I shop at Kroger and Publix and you can always find her food. Mr. Ravenscroft! Thank you my whole childhood flash before me. I have heard your voice a million times as a kid growing up in Florida and going to Disney world. When you pointed all of those voices out Jeff I couldn't help but smile. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Beautiful church campus and cemetery grounds! Seems like it is always bright and sunny in California. I like the message from Schuller that you showed. And what an amazing life that Thurl Ravenscroft lived. His voice lives on! Very neat History Hunters, Jeff! Thank you!
Everybody thought Boris Karloff sang the Grinch but he didn't. He only did the narration. Boris won a Grammy for the Grinch. Loved his voice. Who can forget one of the greatest movie characters of all time. Frankenstein. It's been said time and time again that Boris was one of the kindest, most caring men to ever walk the planet. What a Legend.
As a child, I recall visiting the Crystal Cathedral for a Christmas concert and dramatization of the birth of Christ in Bethlehem. I was astonished when an actor portraying an angel came flying over my head, attached to a theatrical fly system. As a young kid, that really stuck with me. The venue is very impressive. I didn't know about the famous graves there, however. What a surprise to learn that Ravenscroft, Callender, Crean, Williams and others are also there! How fascinating! Thank you for this, Jeff and Sarah!
It's a beautiful place. Roger Williams was a favorite of mine. I went to see him in 1972 at the John Wayne Theater, in Knotts Berry Farm. As great a Showman, as he was a Pianist. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for visiting Garden Grove and the Crystal Cathedral . I remember all this when I lived in Long Beach , CA in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a minister with expensive tastes.
Shonuff, Jeff: it's that single image at 4:11!...although technically not 'L.A.' (Garden Grove is in Orange County, 'next door' to El Ay), a drive-in movie theatre as a church venue takes SoCal Car Culture to a whole 'nother level. I'm in my 68th year; I remember those cars; but I never heard of this Schuller enterprise until now. Thanks! You've enlightened ME! :D @@jbenziggy
Everybody needs a hero! Robert H. Schuller was mine. After graduating NTC boot camp at Sandiego in 89, I took a bus early in the a.m. to Orange County. When I arrived you could see the Tower of Hope cross lit up! I attended Church that Sunday for the first time in person being from Albany. His oldest son was preaching, giving a solid message of hope. I spent the day just being on that property. I returned one other time for the Glory of Christmas in 97’. So Awesome! The most beautiful place I’ve ever been to still to this day by far. God Bless Robert Schuller and his entire family. Thank you for the great video!
Thank you Jeff. You have a knack for keeping things bright and positive. You may not be aware that there are currently people upset that their relatives are now buried in a Roman Catholic cemetery, and some of them are making provisions to have their loved ones disinterred. Rev. Schuler was a one-of-a kind gifted dynamic preacher. That point was certainly proven not long after he left this world. Even though I have spent part of my life as an Orange County, California resident, and have seen the towers of the (former) Crystal Cathedral from a few blocks away, I have never been on the campus. Thank you for taking me there today!
Once again, I appreciate so much all your research and presentation, Jeff. Sunday mornings are always anticipated to see what you've done for us. I especially loved learning about the voice we've all heard throughout the years.
I know I have Yelled this Several times.... and I will Again... ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING CONTENT! I Love these Vids.... All the Research and knowledge you provide is Outstanding and massively Appreciated. Thankyou JEFF!
That cathedral is stunning! So beautiful! I buy many of Marie Callender frozen meals. Like home cooking. Tony Tiger and the Grinch. Voices you can’t forget. My grandparents always watched Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. Great to see you and Sarah again! Hope you both had a great 4th of July holiday.
Wow what an interesting place, to think that man's voice can still be heard after he's gone is amazing. Being from the east we didn't have Marie calendars but I still like her chicken pot pies. Thanks for sharing Jeff and Sarah.
I had never heard of a drive-in theatre before now and WOW 😮 that Crystal Cathedral Church and surrounds look like a millionaire’s resort. Thanks Jeff and Sarah. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
Disneyland and the crystal cathedral! This is some of my favorite 80s memories. Thank you so much! Robert Schuler is a little controversial these days and his reputation is not 100% clean however his positivity gospel really helped me get through some tough times as a depressed teenager in the 80s before therapy and medicine were really available for me. It worked for me, probably saved my life and for that I’m very grateful.
This is one of your most interesting shows I've watched. GOOD WORK!!! The networks could take a lesson from you on story telling. You actually give the viewer time to understand what you are talking about.
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for sharing memories of the Crystal Cathedral. I used to work at Hour of Power in 1975. I was in the elevator with Reverend Robert Schuler, what a great memory. I agree with Sarah about Marie Callenders products now. Mr and Mrs Knott also contributed to the church also!
The last time I saw Dr. Schuller he had come to Butte to officiate at Evel Knieval's funeral @ the Civic Center. He stood the entire time even though he was elderly. He had baptized Evel @ the Crystal Cathedral. Evel would only allow his given name of Robert to be used not his stage name. Pardoning the pun...it was a very moving service. Excellent job on this video! Thanks from Montana 🙂
Jeff, you never cease to surprise me of how your brain thinks and it brought back so many memories you and Sarah are the best! Your number one fan LOU MARTELL P.S I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS HAVE A NICE DAY GOD BLESS!
Crystal Cathedral. Wow! Always wondered what happened to Robert. Such a shame about the huge debt. Born free One of my favorites growing up, as a matter of fact i sang or hummed that song all the way out west. Thanks again for the memories. Well, This truly is the day that the Lord has made. Y'all be blessed by the Best!
Your shows are of broadcast quality... and you're accomplish ing all that with that lil cam and your wonderful soothing narration. KEEP IT GOING JEFF...
Loved this! Learned a lot too. I grew up watching Dr. Robert Schuller on television. I had no way to go to church, so I would watch him. I thought it was interesting that they filed bankruptcy. Never knew that. What a beautiful cemetery.
When my daughter was little, we took our van to the car church, and she could play with her toys and we could attend church. I remember we used to honk the horn at the end of messages. I loved when he had a star on to talk about their walk with God. It was always so interesting!
That sounded like an ideal situation for you and your daughter, being able to hear the gospel and your daughter not having to be so restricted like in an enclosed church! ❤❤😊
That was so interesting. The opulence of the place is amazing. Who would guess it's a cemetery? I really appreciate the backstories of some of the residents, who in a few cases, are somewhat familiar. Thank you so much for the video, research, and legwork, Jeff and Sarah.🛣🤠👏👏
Very interesting stuff... Learned a lot from this video. My favorite part of this episode was Marie Callender's... but still enjoyed watching the entire video. Thank you for sharing. Take care Jeff and Sarah. 🇺🇲

I enjoyed the episode! We had the opportunity to see an amazing Christmas program at the Crystal Cathedral once. Also, this History Hunters episode reminded me of the drive-in church that was in Sacramento.
Hi Jeff, It's so Amazing that you and Sarah visiting The Crystal Cathedral Magnificent, Never seen anything like that before. It's just so Beautiful. Again Thank you for a Wonderful Tour in Garden Grove California. Great Video Jeff❤️❤️❤️
Now here’s a video that brings back memories. I used to visit the Crystal Cathedral several times a year with my family. So many great memories there. Still miss those days. Sad what all happened.

My family and I attended The Crystal Cathedral for a time in the 80s. It was a very impressive structure with beautiful light shining in. I had no idea about John Crean's background. I only remembered him from the hilarious At Home on the Range. I think it was shot in his garage and the audience was seated on folding chairs, but it was so enjoyable. I watched it whenever I happened to catch it. And Thurl Ravenscroft? What can be said? He's a part of most our of fond memories, especially at Disneyland!
I wasn’t very religious and still am not, but Hour of Power still made me pay attention. There was just something about Robert Schuler’s voice that made you sit up and listen.
My Grandma watch Schuller on tv every Sunday. I remember cuddling with her as she watched it when I was little. "He is such a nice man," she would always tell me. She passed in 2006, maybe somehwere listening to him preach again.

Schuler was charismatic. Some really interesting people interred. At that Cemetery. Roger Williams was an amazing pianist. Don’t think I ever ate at a Marie Callander’s restaurant. 💯👊👍
My former landlord was friends with Thurl. Thurl also narrated the Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters. On the sale of the Crystal Cathedral I recall Chapman Univ had a higher bid than the Catholic Diocese but Schuller preferred it stay a house of God. Finally, we baked a frozen Marie Callenders Dutch apple pie over 4th of July.
Nice to hear the back story of that deep voice. My favorite part and memories of Disneyland. Really sad about Marie Callenders chain also. Always loved the design inside .Great video!
Jeff, Sarah great video as always ! Very much enjoyed the history lesson, growing up in So Cal my Grandmother always had it on when it was broadcasting. Never went there, but your memories brought back images of Grandma sitting in her chair, I thank you for that! Spent many Sundays after church eating lunch at Marie Calendar’s with my family in Modesto, awesome memories! Thanks for that Jeff! Haven’t been there in years. Again awesome video! Tom in Ceres
Thurl was the voice of my childhood. He is missed.
A great and good man. I'm glad the place didn't turn into a nightclub.
It amazes me how you find all of those old T.V. clips.
