I just bought my truck two months ago. It’s used but it’s the turbo diesel and 2019. Only 110,000 miles on it. My engine is knocking as well.

This was helpful after we figured out that's exactly what was going on with my 6.4 build after infectors killed the pistons

How many horns does that train have?

2015 f350 170k miles, same exact issue. Only thing is when I lower number 5 injector down to zero it gets significantly quiet but still has a ping. Would that change the possible diagnosis?

I try to do everything from the drivers seat first. Do a relative compression test, if cylinder 5 is more than 3% pull that injector and stick your boroscope down-take a look at the cylinder wall and piston. Look carefully at the wall for alum transfer from a siezing piston. This engine I have here showed 3% relative compression, had no perceivable misfire, hadn’t flagged a balance and showed only a slightly higher positive correction on the quantity adjustment so it can be tricky. What happens when you shut that injector down? I’m assuming you quantity adjustment is on the + side? I doubt it’s a bearing, it would have locked up or exploded parts out the block already. One thing to note on modern diesels, it has no idea if one cylinder is overfueling/overheating, other than it will likely regen more frequently ,it’s always going to go + on the quantity adjustment to try and compensate for lower average rotational velocity (on the power stroke) for that cylinder.

@@northwestlighttruckservice278 Hello I have a question Sir I have 6.4 with only 15,000 original miles and my truck started ticking by the wheel well not when cold but when is up to temp. The tick is not loud but sounds like a single tick then a double tick I know the newer diesels have this issue any ideas?

If its inconsistent, sounds like typewriter syndrome.

Do u think it was tuned? Maybe the EGT got to hot?

Far as I can tell there has never been any tune, SCR system if fully functional.

Close inspection of the other pistons shows cylinder #2 was overheating. I would replace all of them regardless. Incidentally neither a short block, long block or complete currently exists for this generation with no delivery date.. it’s been a hoot trying to keep trucks going the past 2 years while a third of the able bodied work force is sitting on their A$$
