Extremely informative documentary, for such a small channel the production value is very impressive. My local shopping high streets have been struck by the same plague so its nice to see such a positive outlook from the business owner.
I live in Prestwick for a few years as a kid and remember Ayr as having just about everything you needed in the shops. Things move on though. The historical stuff, Burns etc, still brings people in. However the town has a drab look about it now.
I've only been to Ayr once, about... 8 years ago or so, during a tour-cycling trip. It was lovely, really enjoyed my time there, and it was very busy! OK, so it was during a late May Bank Holiday and the weather was perfect - I'm from a seaside town myself in the NW of England, so I do appreciate how much can change in/out season. I camped at a small, very friendly and relaxed campsite in Troon, which so reminded me of my hometown, Fleetwood, that I felt right at home. I must go back there. But regardless, that whole coastal area is really lovely, with great views - I'd much rather live in such a place than some inner-city suburban sprawl. Oh, and I particularly agree with the first lady; don't rely on the Government to look after you and your town, do as much as you can yourself and have as little to do with it as you can - they will happily trap you in poverty, if you allow them to. Lovely video. Thanks
Sadly a lot of British towns are in decline. The trend is also seen in every country in Europe. Maybe we need to tax out of town shopping centres and reduce rates for business owners in our beautiful towns.
Such a shame to see Ayr looking like this, although its the same thing happening all over the UK. I think the last Labour government have a lot to answer for with the PFI deals, many councils are still paying ridiculous fees and don't have the money to invest.
Nothing to do with Brexit. The problem was the covid lock downs. Another big problem is the high level of tax that we face and so many regulations that it prohibits economic growth. Oh and the lack of basic policing so low level crime seems to be completely tolerated. No wonder many successful people are leaving the UK for places like Dubai. I hope people wake up and vote for Reform.

The one thing you are not going to knock down is the loveliness of the Scottish people.
