Let start out with a huge thank you for the video!! I too had the sensor break off just like the video. My '09 Passat has 110k miles and the engine is not nearly as clean (aka. no rust) as Motorcarnut's. I would recommed soaking the whole area in PB Blaster before you even start the removal process. I found that a 5/8 drill bit fit inside the hollow "cap" of the sensor. This size seemed to be just right in that it would fit in without being too big that could potentially break the plastic while in the hole. I had to use PB Blaster and picks to get all of the rust from around the sensor/hole/block and then I was able to get the cap to back out using the drill bit. There is no way that I would have accomplished this without video showing in detail what I was dealing with. Thank you again!
just replaced mine on my mk7. pretty much in the same location. was able to shimmy in there by moving that lower coolant hose out of the way instead of taking out the charge pipe. great video regardless. shows the proper way to get in there instead of being in a rush like i was. thanks!
Hai there, just wondering if the code P072600 is the crankshaft senaor are going bad cause when engine ia hot the gear stuck in Reverse and the code appear in the TCU dtc..it's VW Passat 280 TSI yeae 2017..dsg gearbox..also have P072B00 as well
Great video!!! Im getting an EPC warning light intermittently with extended cranking before the engine starts on 2010 Tiguan. Reading a 322 code and so will try changing the sensor.
Very well could be, also should make sure your valve timing is fine because they are known for timing tension issues. I have many videos on this engine and it’s problems.
Ty for the help, only video on RUclips going over this. I used a drill bit like you, a small piece of the plastic fell into the hole/block. Hopefully I'm ok.
Hi, thank you for the videos you make they are very helpful to women who are clueless lol. Would this part cause the rpm to flicker under the number 1 mark? Mines will start and run for a few seconds or maybe a minute, then start to sputter and shut off. I just had the coolant hose connector replaced on the right side of the engine also replaced 4 plugs but only one of the coils (was told the other 3 weren't bad). Could this be the issue it doesn't stay running?
I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you as well! Not really, I mean it can but extremely rare. You would normally get a code. Does your vehicle have any codes?
@@motorcarnut where is it located the knock sensor ? Is it the same as the crankshaft sensor because i have to crank for like 40 seconds each time for 3-4 times

My charge pipe had a little oil leak out when i pulled it. But currently im trying to figure out why my engine doesn't turn off when i press the strt/stop button and the dash constantly displays "ignition on" even after i hook the battery back up.
Hey ! Thank you for all the videos , you’re a life saver ! I got one casing stuck as well ! Do happen to know what size bit you used ? I don’t wanna damage the block
Thank you for the comment really appreciated! I don’t know which I used but just find one big enough to grab the inside of the broken sensor and turn it by hand not to damage the casting.
Great videos! I have a 2016 q3 CCTA engine it cranks but won’t start. I saw your video on stock tensioner. Do you know if Audi/VW made any changes to the 2016 CCTA version? And is there away to test the crankshaft sensor without having to replace it? I appreciate any help you can provide
Your particular car should have the updated version of the tensioner so you should be fine. Crankshaft sensors on these cars rarely goes but you’ll need a scope or high end scan tool to read signal unfortunately.
Hey brother! As always, great video! Could this sensor also cause a P000A and P0016? My 2010 CC runs and drives great but I have a check engine light with those two codes I listed. I know someone in a different video of yours mentioned that it could also be caused by a short in the wiring. What would you recommend?
@@motorcarnut the timing chain tensioner I installed and put the revised version. The control oil valve seemed clean and wasn’t poking out (like the one you mentioned on one of your videos). This really has me beat! I’m just glad the car is running well but these codes make me feel like the car is a liability right now.
This engine looks the same with the vw BZB 1800 TSI. Do you know if the sensor is at the same position? I am getting a P0321 fault code and cannot rev over 3000 rpm. Any ideas?
Hi. 2016 Audi A6 2.0 TDI Ultra (C7 model) owner here, engine CNHA. Code P0322 Engine Speed Sensor G28 ( Crankshaft Sensor) I can’t find any diagram or video where mine could be located. Have you worked on any?
Hi, Nice video! I have same engine. Removed and cleaned intake ports when I got to the last cylinder the right intake valve didn't close when the left one did. Ah Broken valve spring...oye. Was ready to trash the car but I took valve cover off, loosened cam bridge and with a few clever homemade gadgets I was able to replace the valve spring. All cylinders tested well (around 175 ppsi) Anyway, the engine runs fine...but, has a few second crank time and when it starts it immediately throws the P0016 code. I checked the oil solenoid looks ok (no protrusion) and solenoid actuates with 12v. My next step is to replace cam position sensor. If that doesn't do it then the crank sensor. My gut tells me that won't fix it. Anything else comes to mind? I don't believe the chain jumped at all. But if those fail, I'll have to check the valve timing...if that is good then it would have to be a loose chain...which I really don't want to change...I suppose it could be a broken tensioner as well. Anyway...is there something else I might be missing?
Thank you!, Yes, it is probably these, The cam bridge or oil control valve, if timing chain tensioner is ok. ruclips.net/video/PpLOk0EN3aU/видео.html I have videos on replacing them all too.
@@motorcarnut Thanks again! While I'm waiting for a tool to show up, I'm trying to confirm chain timing is good. I only have the top cover off. After about 18 revolutions, I have the dark chain links lined up with the cam gear marks both near the top. I see a little V in the pully on the crank. It is at about 4 o'clock. I don't see any TDC marks on the bottom cover. Is there some mark on the bottom cover...or should I take #1 plug out to make sure it's at TDC?
There is a mark on the lower steel cover in about the 4 o'clock position, very hard to see, it's a triangle. Chains don't stretch as much as the tensioners fail, so I would worry too much about that.
Have a 2016 Golf 1.8 TSI that giving me error code for this sensor. Is the location the same for my engine? I also saw your vvt check which I will.also check
You don't need to remove the intake pipe completely. Hey! I got recommended that my crankshaft sensor is faulty. My VW Beetle 2012 with this same 2.0 TSI engine fails on me on occasions when powering up. So, after I drive to university, I turn it off, take some clases 1-2 hours, and then go to power up and it works just fine. However, when i go to a fast food or a mall, for 15-20 minutes and come back to turn it on, it won’t start. It powers up but immediately shuts off. I was first told it could the immobilizer, but no immobilizer light or warning comes up, and it’s on rare occasions. Do you think I have a faulty sensor?

Hopefully im not getting ripped off & she gets fixed tomorrow. Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated. My car is a 2013 VW CC 120,000 Miles.
Even thought it’s a vw dealership hopefully the technician know these cars. The crankshaft sensor( which I have a video on how to change it yourself) rarely goes bad and just because it has that code could be the timing chain tensioner that is causing your problem or timing chain already jumped. $700 for half hour work and $50.00 part seems steep to me. Hopefully I’m wrong and it could just be that sensor but even the video I made about changing it, it wasn’t bad, I made the video to show how to do it. If you are handy it’s takes about half and hour and $50.00 for the sensor.
@@motorcarnut Yeah that's what I thought. Pretty steep in my opinion. Seems like labor should be $3-400 not $700…. I'll see what I can do.
