I'm glad they left the possibility open for him to come back in later seasons. Ackles is such a good actor and I would love to see him in the show again
Definitely an excellent season, a big improvement over season 2. I like that giving the Boys a way to kill Homelander didn't make Homelander any less scary because while they gave the Boys these ways to potentially kill him they also made HL much less limited and more threatening in other ways.
@@nileshkumaraswamy2711 Not to mention, all these ways of "killing him" were almost as dangerous is Homelander himself. Sure, Soldier Boy was strong enough to compete with and potentially depowered him, but he's also a PTSD ridden blackout prone drug addict with (Until just before the ending) a complete inability to self reflect. Temp V gives cool powers, but we can also figure out waaaaay before the proper reveal that it has some serious health effects. Meanwhile all the while all the things that gave them the edge in season 2 are crumbling away. Maeve's allegiance, Homelander's need to be seen as heroic to be loved, even Ryan, all gone. It leaves them with only the rockiest bridges to cross to get to him, and means they actually have to be really damn smart to keep a step ahead of him.

It was really interesting seeing Thor without Loki for the first time. Realizing how important their relationship was and now seeing how weird it is without Loki around. There is definitely a void there. This movie definitely had it’s highs and lows. My favorite bits were when Thor went full badass God of Thunder. Hopefully we see more of serious Thor because this comedic mid life crisis Thor is entertaining, but he doesn’t give chills like he does when he rains lightning down on his foes
The movie's ONLY highs were Christian Bale's performance and that black and white sequence, which was primarily elevated because of Bale's aforementioned acting. Other than that, the film was abhorrent.
I liked the second half of the film, yeah the first half wasn't so great but when the main plot kids kicks in though there were some funny jokes for me like the axe being jealous of mjolnir
I agree with the Natalie Portman bit. She didn’t really play the “awkward new hero” role that well and imo it would’ve been better if she had been a more serious character especially with her having cancer. My favorite part was the shadow realm fight tho. Also loved season 3 of the boys and I’m glad u do too
Idk. In my experience with people with cancer, they tend to act extra energetic or jokeybecause when you have cancer that kinda brings the mood down. Not to say that inherently all cancer patients act this way; it's just my personal experience, but to say the peppy positive attitude is uncharacteristic of a cancer patient is just wrong.
She should've been a very confident and capable thor. In the movie she seems like she doesn't know what she's doing, but she still uses mjolnir better that thor. It just doesn't make sense
I thought she was mostly good. I actually liked her energy. She seemed like she was being overly positive in order to cover up the cancer. She's sad but doing everything possible to hide it.
Season 3 was actually surprisingly good. Yes, I do think that some parts of the finale kinda fall short and weren't nearly as good as they could have been, but this season has a lot of good shit to offer and is an easy 9/10 for me
@@Briaaanz The big criticism most general audiences had with Ragnarok was that it was too funny. He toned it down in this movie because of that which really sucks.
@@Chris-ks4sw i think he did the opposite personally but maybe its because of how widely conflicting the tones were with janes cancer and gors character paired in a movie with this many jokes. There was no REALLY serious things to tackle in ragnarok by comparison.
@@phil4909 I might actually be wrong, I think it could also be that I was just laughing a lot less at some of the jokes and thought there were actually less jokes.
One things I didn't like is not really expressing how racist SB is. Like it clearly stayed by a few characters that he was a racist and horrible guy. But it never really backed up. We see him being mysogimsitc and homophobic but not racist. He even talks highly of Bill Cosby. I just wished they could of made him fit the 1930s vibe.
They’re 100% the humanity of the show. They’ve done horrible things but dream of a more idealistic future that they probably can’t have have. One of my favorite relationships in anything in quite some time.
"There's a really enjoyable movie here, under all the layers of Marvel formula they poured on" Hit the nail on the head. It was better than I thought it was going to be, and I didn't hate Natalie Portman; good things. *Everything* about this movie gets better in the finale/third act, which is unfortunate cuz I think this had the potential to be an easy top 10 in the MCU
It was the opposite for me. Not all the jokes landed, but I still liked a lot of the humour in the first half (including the screaming goats), and I felt like it was definitely still Taika Waititi's humour, and not just generic Marvel humour (I didn't enjoy the humour nearly as much in Infinity War and Endgame). And then in the end, I felt it reverted to a generic final battle with a big scary villain, who had a 'sympathetic' backstory crammed in at the beginning. But that's probably just difference in preference of humour. I like real stupid stuff like goats screaming every scene, and Zeus flipping a lightning bolt for thirty seconds straight. For context, it was an 8/10 for me.
@@prodigion1 Same here. Zeus flipping that Bolt around like an asshole had me in tears. And when the fighting started with the big bad villain and the huge intergalactic power and cringy dialogue with Jane I nearly fell asleep.
@@prodigion1 kinda feel the same way. I don't understand how someone can see the comedic bits as "generic marvel" when a lot of the humor is pretty typical Waiti absurdist stuff. The movie doesn't doesn't even try to hide it. Like has anyone saying this ever *seen* a Waiti film before? I guess I'm just confused how Marcus can clearly see and appreciate what a film like Doctor Strange is meant to be and largely accomplishes (kinda campy/silly and not taking itself *too* seriously) then just be so far off base on a movie like this that's literally doing the same thing in a different way. Imo this is the better movie of the two because it does sprinkle some genuinely heartfelt stuff around too.
@@prodigion1 It was the opposite opposite for me... just kidding the whole movie was just cringe to me. You could argue any movie could be an easy top 10 in the MCU (this is more directed at the original comment obviously) but I do still see what you guys mean. This movie had a ton of potential with an AMAZING first scene and villain overall. It just sucks how badly they ruined him later in the movie because of all of the jokes. There honestly should have been more of him in the first half of the movie and I feel like it would have been a better movie overall. Show him do literally anything other than kidnap a bunch of children to bait Thor into fighting him on his own territory like a little *****. Gorr should have been much more powerful and been easily able to beat Thor without having to resort to kidnapping. We were told earlier in the movie that he was killing tons of gods! Yet we weren't shown jack.
For me, I feel as if Thor: Love and Thunder needed to utilize showing and not telling for Gorr. I think it would've been nice and effective to see him kill gods.
Gorr shouldn't have been the villain for this movie, he deserved a higher rating and a *lot* more development His arc in the comics was amazing and Christian Bale could've been perfect for that role
Part of his intrigue was that we DIDNT see him do too much and we didn't know what he was capable of or what his powers were. I was happy to discover it and be frightened by him right there with Thor
Jesus Christ is Lord. Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. It is an important key most miss. I was exactly the same as you: I had no sense of urgency to watch The Boys S3, but I was surprised by how many touching character moments they fit in. A great season.
I really felt Gorr was underused. I always had a feeling, based off of the cool things I've heard about him from the comics, what we got in this movie made me feel underwhelmed. Not because of the actor or his performance but of how much time was spent making jokes instead of making Gorr a more present character. I would've loved to feel fear and an overall feeling of uneasiness when he's being the God Butcher. My point is, it would've been cool to see him really killing Gods, showing their strength but are unmatched by Gorr. It's kinda hard to take him seriously when his only threat is that he stole a bunch of kids in which we all know aren't going to have a tragic end in a family friendly movie
I feel like Gorr should’ve gotten a 5 minute scene of him going sicko mode on Sif and and Falligar. That had more potential to motivate Thor than the trapped kids did, who never seemed like they were in any real danger.
Gorr deserved a better movie. His fantastic design and Christian Bale's over-the-top performance made what could be another lifeless space demon into one of the MCU's best villains, with so much stage presence. Again, I have mixed feelings on Thor 4 as a whole, but the scenes with Gorr carried the film
oh no i agree, it's criminal how they didn't used gorr more, i enjoy how they make him scary by making even zeus afraid of him, but maybe gorr going on a killing spree on gods in the city would be great to add to the threat
I think the Boys season 3 is the best thus far. So much happens in each episode. The characters are more fleshed out and interesting than their comic book counterparts. Can’t wait for season 4
This was a fluff season. Temp v makes no sense, just get a bunch of people to take it and kill homelander. It should have been more rare, like there was only a few in existence.
@@dasboom7133 I think the fact that it kills u is exactly the kind of thing that would nullify your complaint? Making it rare/making it unusable bc it kills you essentially scratches the same itch. Meanwhile, I was rather underwhelmed by her at the scene were she's sitting over her dying father and emoting very little. The movie so desperately did not want the audience to feel sad at all, and frankly, I wish it would have committed to a more serious execution of certain scenes.

Knowing what made something successful is a hugely overlooked skill set. Most people don’t have a clue why they were able to achieve success, often attributing it to things they deep down want to be the reason. Apparently James Cameron took time to analyze what made Avatar successful, and he’s tried to replicate it…. But might be hard, since that has a lot to do with the temporarily 3D fad. That’s one example.
I feel like the MCU wants what the boys has, but they’re expecting to get it through quantity not quality. What made the MCU special was its core characters and its buildup in a way that was comparable to a tv show. Now both of those are gone, because it is spread very thin. The boys has both, thanks to the very nature of its IP. The boys was built as a critique of the genre, which the MCU has become- bloated, tame, and afraid to challenge its audience. The boys is not afraid, and it’s smarter than it’s competition. Rather than focus on every hero’s overly generic story, the creators of the boys focus their creativity on the core story and it’s core cast, which elevates its potential power to tell a unique story. It shocks us by exploring things we’ve never seen from the genre, and has a very clear end goal, delivered by the absolute best of the budget. The MCU needs to regain this, and consolidate so that it can deliver at the highest level. To put it simply, we don’t need 8 different 4/10 shows, it won’t work for us. One 10/10 show will keep us hooked forever. These Disney+ shows should combine rather than divide. Less is more, Disney.
You are comparing two wildly different takes on filmmaking here and its almost embarassing. The reason the boys works is because its a deconstruction of the marvel movies that populated the entirety of the 2010s. It makes all of it heroes shitty, its dark, has serious tones and the comedy usually comes from brutality if there is any comedy at all. Taika Waititi has and always will be the complete opposite of that. He makes movies that have no serious moments in them whatsoever. They are lighthearted, absurd and competently directed comedy movies deconstructing horrible situations. Hunt for the wilderpeople is about grief and acceptance while being lost in the wilderness for months. Jojo rabbit is a movie about a boy in nazi germany having to deal with having a jewish girl hidden in his house. Thor ragnarok is thor having his entire home and people destroyed. Thor love and thunder is about a maniacal god killer threatening every god in the universe and dealing with vengeance. All of these movies take these horrible things and use them as periphery to tell jokes and thats what makes them great. Not every movie has to be serious. Not everything wants or needs to be The Boys.
@@NamaJeff no one said anything about shows having to be identical to the boys in order for them to be good. The critique on marvel is that they sacrifice quality for quantity. You sorely missed the point. That's embarassing. The rest of your reply is incoherent.
@@nihilodiem9591 You can still have weight in a story, it just doesn't need to be emotional weight. There are stakes in Thor L&T, characters grow, characters die and gorr does present a threat to the gods in the movie. Just because emotional beats weren't completely serious doesn't mean they don't have weight.
I feel like a lot of Thor was rushed editing wise. The whole sequence they had in black and white was really amazing and I wish they'd taken a little more time with it. I feel like there's a lot of scenes missing out of the film in general (we didn't even get to see Jane BECOME Mighty Thor!) and yes the jokes were just too much. It was nice that Korg was back but honestly they could've left him out altogether and the movie would've been better, Sadly Waika Taiti LOVES the sound of his own voice. 😒
I get all of these but u thought the black and white scene needed more time used on it? If you mean you wanted more time there I agree sure but if your saying it needed more work on the visuals? Nah no way it was easily the best visual sequence of the movie
"Sadly Waika Taiti LOVES the sound of his own voice." So true, all this fame has gone to his head. He needs to chill and not shoe horn himself into everything.
Love and Thunder feeling like a SNL episode with an awkward celebrity host is SPOT ON. It’s like Natalie took the role to try to earn cool points with her kids.
Christian Bale also only took the role to earn cool points with his kids, though. He didn't want to be in a superhero movie again, but his kids convinced him to.
boys S3 gave Mother's Milk one of the most compelling and emotional storylines you can have on a superhero show - all without ever giving him powers. highlight of the season for me
My roommate suffers from OCD brought on by Childhood Trauma and Yeah it's... it's quite disruptive to ones life and this show managed to find a way to both explain it, and show how difficult it is to live with without in any way making fun of it, or light of it and I appreciated that.
Even though the season finale of The Boys left me feeling underwhelmed, I would still say that it is by far and away the best superhero show on TV. Nothing Disney+ put out comes close. In my opinion, only Netflix Daredevil surpasses it, although they are quite different and don't share much other than being "superhero shows".

Especially when it undercuts serious and dramatic moments so consistently.
I have two major criticisms of The Boys season 3 [SPOILER ALERT] 1) The Soldier Boy storyline felt underused. SB as a character essentially functioned as a springboard for the development of other characters (MM's anger, Homelander's fear) and then they do away with him entirely. 2) The lack of criticism from the public for Homelander's nice guy facade slipping is bizarre. It would be like if Superman had been saving people with a smile for decades and then suddenly snapped and called himself a god that will not be controlled. People would realistically get nervous. And people were already protesting Homelander in season 2 so I expected more of that given these circumstances.
But what if superman was controlled by the government and nobody treated him as equal to other justice league members. I kind of agree but I do think its a little different
I actually liked Thor at the very beginning of the MCU. He was one of "the serious ones", character-wise but every now and then he would crack a joke. Now it feels like every superhero in the MCU shares the same comedian persona which just enhances the repetitive feeling of the movies and tv-shows.
I think Ragnarok is like a lightning in the bottle which is the most solid thor adventure. I did enjoy christian bale's performance but the film has issues. I liked how mighty thor story folds. The script could've been better, But I enjoy it. It's still the second best thor film behind Ragnarok.
I think the reason Ragnarok is infinitely better than the first 2 Thor movies is that it brought the humorous side of thor, making him more relatable and human. the reason L&T is a bit under Ragnarok is that the comedy overshines the serious parts. But i still enjoyed L&T
The thing about The Boys s3 finale is exactly what you said--it's setting up for next season, rather than serving as a great concluding point on its own. I felt like they were writing for longevity rather than quality several times, as several characters actually take a step back from the arcs they've been undergoing all season. The final confrontation had so much buildup and yet we're left with what feels like a return to the status quo. If you told someone season 1 that THIS is what the outcome of such a seismic "battle" would be, they wouldn't believe you. I know because I told my girlfriend, who had only seen season 1, about the finale, and she thought I was messing with her. That said, there are so many things to love when you put the finale in perspective. The first six episodes of s3 have to be the peak of the whole show, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy brings an incredible performance, and not EVERY character was "ruined" or "reset" by the finale as some haters would say. The parallels and contrasts between Homelander/Butcher/Hughie/Soldier Boy are amazing, and the levels of hypocrisy and irony were unreal. Still looking forward to s4!
Dude that moment was so cool though when soldier boy told homelabder you are a disappointment. And when gonelander killed noir. question is are you going to ever watch it again over ragnarok or infinity war, or even the first thor movie? if the answer is 'no,' it failed its job spectacularly.
Definitely. I feel like the whole lure thor with children he stole was really a lazy plot device considering he literally murdered gods from other planets but decided he would attack new asgard, not cause any casualties and just kidnap children and run away. The opening area in the movie with gor's God felt...weird. like a lot of that scene felt like it was from a bad TV sketch. Maybe it was the effects and costumes idk. It was just off. And yeah I was expecting thor to be more like ragnarok which was nice and had good comedic moments. But I felt it would be more serious after thors scene with the guardians considering gor was the main villain. Which never really happened til close to the end. Also the children scene at the end... I really didn't care for it. Yeah he gave them temporary powers but yet again gors shadow beasts took a beating like they were stuff animals. And it was established after that they didn't have any training in defending themselves.
@@notanimportantperson I love it but I’m kinda not familiar with the comics I have never read it but when I watched the show I appreciated what it was 👍

The gods in Omnipotent City are more concerned with an orgy than they are about gods dying, because they don't care and Gor is right.

i'm not expecting invincibubbles to fall off a cliff in terms of quality but technically we have 3 seasons of the boys and only 8 short episodes of invincible. still, those two shows are the ones I'm most excited about. Marvel (and Disney and DC) fatigue is super real
It’s because the boys and invincible have the tools that team four star did with dragon ball Z abridged but in a larger scale. They have the power of hindsight to help see what worked in the comics and what didn’t, and the boys specifically has the over saturation of superheroes to use in its satirical portrayal of the superhero corporation: Vought
I remember people were getting sick of the MCU around 2015/2016 of being formulaic but now it's borderline insufferable. We're now getting at least 10 TV shows and movies every year, which is just too much. Aside from brief parts of the Multiverse of Madness, Shang-Chi, Eternals and WandaVision, directors have very little creative freedom so all these films look and feel the same. Most of the time the storytelling isn't very ambitious either. Marvel has always had a safe pretty safe narrative but with this much oversaturation, it stands out even more now The CGI looks truly awful at times since Marvel/Disney overworks CGI artists who aren't unionized and give them ridiculous deadlines and the end product leaves *a lot* to be desired The very little subtlety left of the comedy in some of the earlier MCU projects has completely vanished as well and a lot of these films/tv shows aren't fun anymore either which is the bare minimum we expected from the MCU Hell we're now living in a timeline where DC are putting out better and more varied projects than Marvel which is absolutely insane
That's exactly what I was afraid of with Thor - too many jokes. Thor originally had a serious tone, then by Ragnarok it hit a great balance of serious and funny. I could tell by the trailer they were going to tip too far into "funny."
Did you saw the movie? Cuz Ragnarok has waaaaaaay more jokes like it's not even a competition, this one actually toned down the jokes they are less frequent than Ragnarok and this actually respects both gorr and Jane foster Thor storylines
bingo. i was just gonna say that. Like when the serious parts came out in thor Ragnarok after the seriousness has ended, it followed up with the joke. I think that's why Ragnarock is still best.
Thank god you gave The Boys 9/10. This is truly one of the best shows that have been on in a while. I feel like the writing team really works hard to make sure it ties together and makes sense. The jokes actually worked for me a lot more in this movie than I would've expected them to. I felt like there was a better separation of jokes and serious moments than in Ragnarok where the two were often one in the same. And overall I thought the movie was pretty funny I laughed a lot. I definitely think it helps that I don't really care about the "broader MCU" anymore so it didn't bother me that it didn't move the "overarching plot" forward all that much or whatever. I went into Thor without reading much into the reviews and expected a comedy. While yes, there were obviously too many jokes, I found myself laughing at the jokes simply because of how ridiculous they were. It was a fun time. Wish it was more emotional. 10/10 post-credits. 7/10 overall.
@@swedlepop7092 ridiculous in a good way, not every movie has to have a fucking plot that discusses the economic and political state of the world, and symbolism for the book of revelations or some shit dude lol. Yeah it obviously isn’t the greatest movie ever but it was still a fun time l
The meeting in the Omnipotent City almost feels reflective of the entire tone of the film: Life-threatening matters are at hand yet no one seems to take any of it seriously
My problem with Thor: Love and Thunder is that they continue to do this thing with Thor where they don't know what to do with him. Is he the main character of his own movie or are they going to pass the torch? And it feels weird because there are jokes we know Thor wouldn't do that only serve to belittle him and then there are the slightly more bigger leader roles. At this point we'll get to see another thor character in the next movie but I just wish we saw beta ray Bill.
Showing weapons have jealous emotions and pumping a screaming goat joke out 50 times instead of showing Gorr killing the gods is exactly how we needed the best thor comic run to be treated. Thanks taiki
Agreed my guy. Glad I wasn't the only one feeling this about The Boys. And damn you actually hit it on the nail for my feelings on Thor but I shamefully knew the jokes were bad but still laughed at a few.
Love and Thunder's humor works at the start of the film, when Thor is bouncing off Star-Lord's "Please stop trying to upstage me" mood. But that's it, rest of the time it falls flat except for when Thor got naked and everyone, man and woman, became faint. Because that had actually good timing and a decent punchline.
Big plus to Hemsworth. He packed on so much size. He's always been huge and his physic always fit the role, but this is the first time that he looks like an actual God, which is very important because he is playing a God.
It took me a while to finally GET the ending of the Boys, I fell into that Bandwagon that nothing really happened and the whole SB story was pointless. But after a bit of thinking, this is prolly the most that has happened emotionally and mentally to most characters. Hughie, A-train, Butcher, Homelander, Starlight all change some for the better and others for the worst. Though I still believed the ending could have been tweaked slightly, it’s still a great ending and better set up for what is undoubtedly the endgame.
The problem is that they didn't frame the ending as Soldier Boy wants to kill Ryan. He just smacked him around and didn't care about him. If they'd worked in some reason where he actually wants to kill him then everything with Butcher would work perfectly.
@@Horatio787 but he would've died if Soldier boy charged up, and it's not like Butcher could've moved Ryan because Ryan wouldn't leave Homelander's side.
@@outbobthelaw2248 I can understand the argument, what I'm saying is it's unclear cinematic language. I'm basically giving a producer note to make it clearer for people who don't take a second to try to answer their own question.
@@Horatio787 what do you mean? SB wants to kill Ryan as much as someone would a mosquito on them. The only reason he doesn't back down from Butcher is because he would never take a punch without fighting back. At that point, he didn't care about Ryan and instead wanted a genuine 1 on 1 fight with Butcha since he's offering one.
@@outbobthelaw2248 the thing I don't get is that before Ryan was feet away while Soldier Boy charged his beam and all Butcher did was tell him to back off. Now he's just lying unconscious. All anybodys gotta do is just grab him and move him 10 feet and if should be right as rain if their previous reaction to Ryan being in the room while SB charges his beam is any indication.
It looks like im in the minority but i still think S1 is the best season, its tight, the pacing is incredibly perfect, the plot is at its best. The next two are on par to me, like i still love the series but the cracks are starting to show imo, the S3 finale is the perfect example of what i feared the show could become. I don’t think the problem is that nothing happened, its how everything was executed, especially those last 30-25 minutes, the writing felt sloppy and you started to see a lot of plot armor and conveniences you see in a lot of shows and superhero properties.
S3 finale was bad because... characters start to become stupid and irrationalx they deviate from their original personality. Like Butcher saving HL, MM blindly seeking vengeance etc.
@@ibrahimalee23 It was always implied that Homelander wasn't that strong, or if he was really strong, he was just lazy. Maeve never knew she could go toe to toe with him, she even said that she'd only be able to buy a few seconds, but she had him for a minute. Butcher losing V24 definitely shakes things up and only having 12 - 18 months to live, Soldier Boy's back on ice, Black Noir (If he could've fought Homelander) is maybe dead, and Maeve's lost her powers too, so perhaps Season 4'll return to Season 1
i think he biggest thing that makes Thor different is that it's mostly post-irony and meta-irony. in the review he complained about the jokes and how it played with the Marvel formula, but i think the point was that it rides the line between cliche and making fun at the regular tropes. where normal irony means the opposite, post-irony is about saying something you mean in a sarcastic way and i feel like that's really the main force behind this movie. it's trying to make you feel conflicted and i guess that's because that's how Thor's feeling or something? idk, i have to think about it more the reason why i mention this, however, is because i feel like this is a more accurate representation of Taika's style than Thor Ragnarok. A lot of his movies make jokes by moving through the absurd rather than rejecting it, examples being JoJo Rabbit or Hunt for the Wilderperson, and i feel like he got so much more directorial freedom for this film. the main thing that makes me feel this way is the tension between the tone and the writing. it seemed generally pretty seriously written like any other Marvel movie, but the transitions and in-between moments and cut-aways all pulled you the opposite direction towards campy absurdity.
great explanation dude. Erik Voss from New Rockstar also said something similar, specifically about Watiti's directing style and overall humor. Ragnarok was about breaking down, Love & Thunder is about building up so it is understandable why some fans enjoy one a lot more over the other. It's a mature and thoughtful way of film-making and with that alone, I appreciate it more than 75% of the somewhat soulless MCU movie catalogue. Phase 4 MCU is branching out if it's overdone formula so it's only natural some fans are going to be turned off by this new direction. I hope it ends up panning out well overall.
A lot of people aren't going to enjoy this movie, like multiverse of madness or Wanda Vision and that's ok. Not everything is for everyone. But for the people that do enjoy it there was a lot to enjoy.
I get what your saying but if that is true he doesn't make it obvious enough for it to be perceived as intentional and it just comes off as more MCU shtick. If he was doing it ironically there has to be some sort of indicator that it is ironic but imo unless you are super familiar with his work it's not.
A friend of mine said that the reason the Thor movie was all over the place is because Thor was all over the place in regards to his emotional state. In order to enjoy the movie more, I’m gonna stick with that.
Yeah, Gorr really did carry this movie. I like how his true motivation is pretty kept under wraps in the movie. Because as we watch him and see him, and we hear all the news stuff about him, we believe that when he does the big bad nobody wants him to do, he’s gonna kill all the gods. However, there are some foreshadowed bits in his screen time that hint at his true intentions.
If this was any other show I would be confident that this is the last we see of noir, because after everything being near perfect it would be weird that this is how that arc ends
I think it’s like Translucent’s death where we can suspend disbelief and confirm him dead, the entire Noir character arc this season was about him coming to terms with himself and his past and trying to reconcile his past by dealing with Soldier Boy once and for all, but he serves Homelander’s catharsis in preparation to meet his father. His death is a genius plot device because it increases the stakes of Homelander’s reunion, just for Soldier Boy to reject him and recognize the pitiful person any deeper analysis reveals. It accelerates Homelander’s fall to his own self loathing and paternity issues that converts into his fit of rage at the end of the finale.
I just finished watching the Boys S3 last night and boy that last 25 seconds of the last episode is probably the scariest thing I've seen on a TV show. Horror movies don't scare me, that shit... terrifying.
I was mad at first about the Thor review, but I do agree with that last part. The final act is the better part of the movie because they back off the constant punchlines. You need levity, but the first half of the movie had too much levity, for the sake of punchlines. When they finally tone it down it is indeed a better movie
Every new MCU movie just further emphasizes Martin Scorsese’s comment about how the movies are more akin to theme park rides rather than cinema, and I think this is the one that will make the most amount of people agree
That comment is understandable, but aren't movies supposed to attract people to a theater, not just "purist" cinema art lovers. At the end of the day money is the key for a lot of these theaters, studios, and actors not just rave reviews and awards.
Yeah, one of the things that stuck out the most about Thor for me was this feeling that it was trying way too hard to be funny. Taika Waititi is really good at interweaving comedy with genuine, heartfelt storytelling, and I feel like he went full bore into what he thought made Ragnarok work. I enjoyed it, but Marvel is going to have to change things up to keep asses in the seats imo who the fuck are we kidding, they'll still be there anyway
I think the reason Ragnarok is infinitely better than the first 2 Thor movies is that it brought the humorous side of thor, making him more relatable and human. the reason L&T is a bit under Ragnarok is that the comedy overshines the serious parts. But I still enjoyed L&T
The best lines in the movie are "Call....the.....axe..." (tightens grip) "Calltheaxe". In a movie with more jokes than a season of SNL, and one Bale scene is the best part.
The thing is, Thor: Love and Thunder did a lot of things right! I felt like they tried to remedy their saga of subpar villains by opening the film setting up Gor's motivations. I really want to like this movie, but there's just something about it that isn't quite all there.
Just the tones tbh, they want gorr to be a compelling villain, so they either needed to blend/equalize the comedic tones better and let him give more to the movie, or just make the movie a little longer and go all in on the whole "mortal vs immortal reality"
I think the third act of the movie was amazing, gorr was one of my favorite villains, but the rest was too jokey for me. I liked the movie overall, I just wished it was more serious and that we could’ve gotten more of gorr

There honestly should have been more of him in the first half of the movie and I feel like it would have been a better movie overall. Show him do literally anything other than kidnap a bunch of children to bait Thor into fighting him on his own territory like a little *****.

@@UltimateNut You guys are the real fact-checkers

Yeah, Phase 4 really seeming like a dud.
This season of the Boys was absolutely insane and even though the finale was a little eh for me I can’t wait for season 4.
I have two major criticisms of The Boys season 3 [SPOILER ALERT]
1) The Soldier Boy storyline felt underused.

And when gonelander killed noir. i'm not expecting invincibubbles to fall off a cliff in terms of quality but technically we have 3 seasons of the boys and only 8 short episodes of invincible. still, those two shows are the ones I'm most excited about.
Marvel has always had a safe pretty safe narrative but with this much oversaturation, it stands out even more now
The CGI looks truly awful at times since Marvel/Disney overworks CGI artists who aren't unionized and give them ridiculous deadlines and the end product leaves *a lot* to be desired
The very little subtlety left of the comedy in some of the earlier MCU projects has completely vanished as well and a lot of these films/tv shows aren't fun anymore either which is the bare minimum we expected from the MCU
Hell we're now living in a timeline where DC are putting out better and more varied projects than Marvel which is absolutely insane

When Gorr said "it's Gorrbin' time", the audience absolutely lost it!
S1 has the best shot in the whole show, so it easily wins
@@ibrahimalee23 It was always implied that Homelander wasn't that strong, or if he was really strong, he was just lazy. Maeve never knew she could go toe to toe with him, she even said that she'd only be able to buy a few seconds, but she had him for a minute. Butcher losing V24 definitely shakes things up and only having 12 - 18 months to live, Soldier Boy's back on ice, Black Noir (If he could've fought Homelander) is maybe dead, and Maeve's lost her powers too, so perhaps Season 4'll return to Season 1
i think he biggest thing that makes Thor different is that it's mostly post-irony and meta-irony. in the review he complained about the jokes and how it played with the Marvel formula, but i think the point was that it rides the line between cliche and making fun at the regular tropes.
where normal irony means the opposite, post-irony is about saying something you mean in a sarcastic way and i feel like that's really the main force behind this movie. it's trying to make you feel conflicted and i guess that's because that's how Thor's feeling or something? idk, i have to think about it more
the reason why i mention this, however, is because i feel like this is a more accurate representation of Taika's style than Thor Ragnarok.
I’m sorry if I just don’t get it but this just sounds really pretentious
A lot of people aren't going to enjoy this movie, like multiverse of madness or Wanda Vision and that's ok. Not everything is for everyone. But for the people that do enjoy it there was a lot to enjoy.
@@bigred6884 most discussion on film, or even art in general, outside of movie good movie bad is going to sound a lil pretentious.
I get what your saying but if that is true he doesn't make it obvious enough for it to be perceived as intentional and it just comes off as more MCU shtick. If he was doing it ironically there has to be some sort of indicator that it is ironic but imo unless you are super familiar with his work it's not.
the tag team w butcher and solider boy still gets me hype
A friend of mine said that the reason the Thor movie was all over the place is because Thor was all over the place in regards to his emotional state. In order to enjoy the movie more, I’m gonna stick with that.
7:02 "Jeff Goldblum": shows The Hulk
Herogasm was easily one of the best episodes in television history. 10/10 on every level of filmmaking and screenwriting
10/10 filmmaking for that episode is fucking hilarious
Yeah, Gorr really did carry this movie. I like how his true motivation is pretty kept under wraps in the movie. Because as we watch him and see him, and we hear all the news stuff about him, we believe that when he does the big bad nobody wants him to do, he’s gonna kill all the gods. However, there are some foreshadowed bits in his screen time that hint at his true intentions.
If this was any other show I would be confident that this is the last we see of noir, because after everything being near perfect it would be weird that this is how that arc ends
Homelander literally ripped his guts out of his body and threw them across the room. Noir is toast

@@TheMaestroMizerous At the very least they can have a sensible plot and characters.
Ah yes let's make a 5 year old kid watch taxi driver.
Yeah, one of the things that stuck out the most about Thor for me was this feeling that it was trying way too hard to be funny. Taika Waititi is really good at interweaving comedy with genuine, heartfelt storytelling, and I feel like he went full bore into what he thought made Ragnarok work. I enjoyed it, but Marvel is going to have to change things up to keep asses in the seats imo
who the fuck are we kidding, they'll still be there anyway
I think the reason Ragnarok is infinitely better than the first 2 Thor movies is that it brought the humorous side of thor, making him more relatable and human. the reason L&T is a bit under Ragnarok is that the comedy overshines the serious parts. But I still enjoyed L&T
The best lines in the movie are "Call....the.....axe..." (tightens grip) "Calltheaxe". In a movie with more jokes than a season of SNL, and one Bale scene is the best part.
I think The Boys needed either an hour and a half finale, or just another episode, because that was a whole lot all at once.
Homelander is one of the best villains I’ve seen in a long time in any genre of film
I think the third act of the movie was amazing, gorr was one of my favorite villains, but the rest was too jokey for me. I liked the movie overall, I just wished it was more serious and that we could’ve gotten more of gorr
Never would have thought I'd see a freaking *Thor* movie that doesn't take itself seriously enough
When Butcher said "IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!!!" I felt that.
