I wonder how many people are able to cultivate their intuitive, spontaneous ways of creating by observing someone like you Kathryn, sharing your creative process. Letting go of a strict plan and predetermined outcome makes so many people feel insecure. I hope lots of people gain a sense of confidence in their own creative expression through you and others who are so sharing.
Life may not be perfect, but you do sound better and that makes my heart happy. My grandmother used to say that if you could hear a clock tick in the house, it meant there was love there. I think it was her way of saying that everybody was not yelling, and there was a quietness in the house. We still have Denny’s and I live in the north east of United States. And for me breakfast is pretty much savory unless it’s a holiday then it tends to be on the sweet side wishing you were beautiful day.
A lovely peaceful morning stitching. So happy FredFred came home. He has been staying at home while you and Stella had all the adventures. He is now having his own adventures. Thank you for sharing another wonderful sewing session. Have a glorious day ❤
When I was a child my favorite color was yellow, but at some point I realized I no longer have a favorite color. I liked yellow because it’s the color I associated with sunlight which suffuses the world with a lively, vibrant cheerfulness, but it can only do that when the other colors are present too. A pleasure for me is when the “ugly” fabrics and scraps that come to me are transformed by juxtaposition into something beautiful.
Lovely way to begin my busy Monday here in the states, drinking my morning tea and being inspired to delve into my scraps this week to see what color will jump out at me to stitch with. Thank you, Kathryn, for these moments of peace.
Hiya K3n,and all, important things first- chocolate is it's own food group!and snack size is for wimps! "Life is short, get as much chocolate as you can!"😊Napping on the setee comes under the heading of "power naps"according to my teenage grandees;Miss6 informs me that lm not old and wrinkled, just crinkly- like when shes been in the bath too long!Rhubarb and apple crumble demands custard, and theres nothing better than rice pudding with sultanas for brekkie- or crunchy bacon butties with soft runny eggs. Full breakfasts need fried soda bread or soda farls! As to the poem about growing old disgracefully, lsaw it in an article and cross- stitched it and framed it,many moons ago& it was commandeered by a friend as a swap for conserving water in times of Aussie drought that she'd embroidered for her bathroom!😊😅 lts nice to be able to eat as one feels like& pursue an activity that gives one pleasure, before one gets too old or infirm;- the simple joys!Just as listening to your "wittering" is comeforting too. Thanks for your lovely companionship and all your hard work in producing the episodes, look forward to them, espically wonky Wednesdays. Stay safe, well and contented always. Julia, Brisbane, Australia ❤ 🇦🇺 😀 🪃 hugs😊
Snack size is for wimps 😂 I also don't know if I respect people who can eat one square of a bar of chocolate and save the rest or if I think that is just way too much self control 🤔😁 lots of love ❤️
You mentioned you want to do a rooftop curtain. This quote from Loretta Pettway Bennett from Gees Bend spoke to me and may to you. “My mother, her mother and my aunts have sewn the foundation. All I have to do is thread the needle.”
Ah, the chiming clocks and echoing bells of our lives! It's the simple things that trigger happy memories and feelings of just being in the right place. What a lovely way to start another darn week at work, thank you ❤ My heart feels lighter 😊😊😊
Really enjoyed the stitching today - so restful. Very pleased that FredFred returned safely and has learned how to work your cd player. I love a ticking clock but always found it interesting that the deafening part is when it stops. • Fun sized chocolate - agreed, NOT fun, although the 'regular' sized bars are so small now, it's hard to tell the difference. • Sweet breakfasts? Of course! When I was 14 I went on our school's French Exchange and the family that I lived with in a village outside Caen had gingerbread with a slab of very dark chocolate and a bowl of sweet frothy coffee for breakfast. Heaven! Thank you for the meusli in crumble tip which I will try. • Eggs? Sunny side up but carefully basted (not stitched) around the yolk to avoid the dreaded snotty white problem. Your dad was right. And yes, fried in a full English. But NO tinned tomatoes...too watery, kills the fried vibe. • Pancakes separately? I like it all together. Maple syrup on bacon is to die for. Favourite breakfast item in an hotel? Grapefruit...already segmented...I eat bowls of them (+ the full English of course) but I never think to have grapefruit at home - even though I could buy it tinned...why? Unexpected item combos that work: • Strawberries with black pepper. • Garlic bread leftovers (rare 😂) - next morning, toast them and spread with marmalade. You're welcome. • Runny brie, fried bacon and redcurrant jelly sandwiches (on good bread). Try them at christmas. Mary x 💟 Sorry for the wittering comment. I need to get out more 😂
Strawberries and black pepper, yes. A dessert spoon of good cocoa powder in chilli. Garlic bread and marmalade? Not sure... Agree about tinned tomato on breakfast though, yucky! Not keen on grapefruit unless sprinkled thickly with brown sugar and flashed under a hot grill 😁 have a lovely week ❤️
My pull was red. I had just enough variety to make my collage pleasing so far. :-) And Re: your marvelous wittering: It's called crumble here in my part of Canada, and having heard you mention it, I might have to make one this week. My partner will thank you. 🙂 I hope you get to see Stella's twin again; fun stuff. Also, one of the things I really like about aging is that I also care so very little what people think of me now; if I'm kind and wrinkly, that's not a bad combination. Cheers for a good week!
tick.. Tick.. Ticking away, the soft pitter patter of the lovely rain, the clangingof the gong chiming the minutes and the soothing witting along with your stitching are all loverly and charming and cuddly.
My sister is a Kathryn so it seems the right way to me, ask I am a JaYne. Guess my parents like Y’s! When I see the name Jane, it doesn’t really register to me as my name. Thanks for another great project, I so admire that you are continuing on considering the amount of emotional and physical stress you are likely experiencing.Creativity heals!❤
So lovely listening to you and looking up to see what you’re doing as I stitch away on a piece reminiscing lazy days of childhood summers. Love the way you let the fabrics guide you. Glad FredFred is settling in well. I like watching or listening to Wendy too. And we have crumble here in Australia. I make mine with some oats too which is probably some kind of sacrilege😆 And now you’re confessing to your breakfast crumble and I am guffawing as I have done that too. As to confession worthy breakfast things, I love a huge dollop of Brandy Christmas cream in my coffee the morning after Christmas Day. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
I have eaten cheesecake occasionally for breakfast, my logic is that it has eggs and cream cheese, anyway so many breakfast foods have sugar so who gets to make the decisions on if it is a breakfast food or not. So glad Fred Fred returned home safely!❤
Breakfast: small bowl of berries, bowl of muesli with lots of nuts and seeds and a bit of dried fruit, usually a fig with soy milk and a very large strong coffee. :) In the states we make Crisp, which is fruit with essentially granola on top.
It’s Spring here in Australia and I chose green. “Spring fills trees with joy and relief, out pop love letters leaf after leaf.” From a poem by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater. Many thanks 💜Cath
This slow stitch community is so delightful. Everyone is happy to take part in all of Kathryn's lovely 'cloth tales' and care very much in how she is doing in her new home and also her beautiful Stella and FredFred. I'm so looking forward to her next 'Park (Home) Life video and maybe watching FredFred use the cat flap.🥰
Enjoyed the stitching and talk. You do have a calming voice...Love the colours and I like weaving with the cloth. Many thanks for the Fredfred update...glad he is settling in and Stella is making friends. I do have cake for breakfast every now and then...why not. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to Friday's video. x Blessings x Mariana UK xx
Wonderful, those colours matching together, it looks very nice. I enjoyed hearing you talking about the little things in your new life, and maybe I will make an apple crumble too. Best wishes to you, Stella and FredFred ❤
And by the way, I start eating at 12.00 and even eat soup or vegetables with my crackers and cheese, I finish with bread, butter and chocolate sprinkles, we call it hagelslag 😂
Once again, thank you for another lovely episode. Here in the US we do have crumble sometimes also referred to as crisp as in apple crisp. I often add oatmeal to my crumble mixture. I am not above some crisp or better yet, a piece of pie for breakfast - fruit and pastry. Your comment about being an over-thinker makes me smile. I'm glad I'm in such good company.
How lovely 🌹🌹 all the news.. the falling rain.. Fredfreds story.. and yes anything you do or make we want to share ..you sound so great ...much love 💞💞💞💞
You continue to bring up happy memories in your stories. My family makes Apple "Crisp" which sounds just like your crumble only with oatmeal added. Christmas morning - there's chocolate in our stockings (and adults have stockings too) and the chocolate is eaten whenever you want!
So glad to hear that Fred Fred is getting used to his new home and surroundings 😸 And glad to hear about your progress in turning your house into your very own home. It is so important to have a home where you fell safe and relaxed in🙂 Wishing you all the best 🌞
Hi Kathryn, so glad Fred Fred returned home safely. When hubby and I go to a market town near us for a day out we always go for an English breakfast, I like mine with a nice runny yoke but not everyone seems to manage it! Lol my hubby likes scrambled with his. Last week our Granddaughter called around with home made apple crumble and custard it was delicious, my husband’s favourite. We need to make the most of the things that bring us joy so go ahead and enjoy your sweet breakfast. Lots of love Bella xx
Funny you discussed apples. My latest craving is homemade chunky applesauce. Love it with the skins on . Add a touch of water and cinnamon and cook stovetop until soft. Then I make a delicious dessert with sugar free whip cream and walnuts.
Napping on the sofa is a sign that you're truly at home ❤ I love the sound of the rain and it's been lovely in Cambridgeshire too the last couple of days. I'm glad to have another go at a weaving piece as I've learned a lot about what's pleasing to me since week one 😊 Looking forward to park home life updates and hope you're doing well xx
Hi Kathryn, I loved this video, love them all really, but I was so engrossed with what you were saying that I was upset when you said bye bye. It was like a good friend saying goodbye after visiting me. You are so interesting and funny. I love all the stories about the new doggies that you and Stella have made friends with and all about Frefreds antics. I love overnight oats for breakfast, and love the sweetness of it, so yes I agree you can enjoy sweet things of a morning. And apple crumble in the morning is so allowed yum yum. What a gem you are, Diane x
When I was backpacking in NZ some years back we used to go out for breakfast and most cafes had bacon and banana pancakes on the menu. I love sweet and Sally combinations so tried it and really enjoyed it. Now if we go out for breakfast I usually order a bacon roll and put my own banana on it. Most people think it's weird until they try it (if they try it!). So delicious 😋 Thank you for another lovely stitching video. I love both the stitching and the wittering. The witterings take me to different times and places throughout my life! X
I love this so much!! purple is definitely one of my favorites! And I didn't jump and spit out my tea , but I was absolutely delighted that you noticed me and my love of your way of couching 💚💚💚! Thank you!!! I'm so glad things are going as well as they are with your home and FredFred and Stella and lovely neighbors!
I was going to sign off to go to bed and your video popped up so I'm awake and now, here rummaging thru my scrappy stuff to play along. I blame you for bringing joy in my late nights still stitching, actually both You and Ms Marion😂🥰😘, Love the colours. Your Park Life Video's are also a joy to us, love seeing what you do with your New Home. Apple or Peach crumble is one of our favorites with Custard in NZ along with Lemon Marange Pie with lashings of cream lol. Love you Ms Kathrine, Fred Fred and Stella xxx
Hahaha I'm just watching this video and come to the part where you were saying about your favourite number '5 million' of something. Did we have favourite numbers? Mine has always been 50,000. To the grandchildren,'I've told you 50,000 times'. 😂 Ive caught my 10 year old grandson saying it now. And yes we often make rhubarb or apple crumble because we grow the fruit in the orchard. 😊 Love your videos❤
Thanks for using Purple, Love purple, love how you wing it and just go.. Your awsome, why do you second guess your self so much. Your so great at what you do...
Yes we have crumble here in Australia. It's one of the first recipes that I cooked as a child. I often make a version that includes rolled oats, ground almonds and chopped macadamias. And yes I agree, crumble, rice pudding or bread and butter pudding make a delicious brekky!!
I’m really looking forward to doing the fabric weave again, I really loved doing this in the first episode. It’s not only fun and relaxing to do the overall effect is so charming. I watch the unexpected gypsie too. I loved the purples of this piece. It’s always been my favourite colour along with turquoise, but they don’t go together well do they! 😂 I was born in Canada and brought up in New England, so maple syrup with waffles or pancakes and bacon is amazing! I do like a sweet and salty combo, but I recall the bacon was sweet, maple cured anyway a lot of the time. And I’ve always had crumpets salty, butter and a touch of salt, and yes I’ve had marmite too. I’m not that great a fan of sweet. I used to leave most of my sweets as a child. My mum said she’d find the treat night sweets in my drawer still wrapped up. My husband has a big sweet tooth. I enjoy making puddings but not eating them! 😂 unless they’re fruity!
1st off, I love chocolate, anytime. 😂 Try strawberry short cake for breakfast. Yum We do have pie, cobbler and crumbles here in the U S. You wont offend us. We are all friends here❤ glad Fredfred is home and settling in
I also love Wendy and her Waffles - she is a delight. Also, I am definitely in the crumble for breakfast club. Peach, apple, blueberry, strawberry-rhubarb - any crumble will do. I add oats in mine which also makes it breakfast. 😂😂😂❤
Hi Kathrine, I really enjoyed your videos, so thank you for sharing. Your memory of your Dad and the eggs made me think of my Dad and he would say do you want a sunny day or a foggy day, referring to how he would fry the egg. I always chose a slightly foggy day so the yolk was still a bit runny but no raw white. Thank you for that lovely memory jog. Xx
Brown Betty (flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, butter) topping for fruit and yes I will eat leftovers for breakfast😁. My number is variations of 8 as in 80, 800, 8,000, 8 million. Love the weaving. Glad to hear fredfred is settling into the new home. TFS Kathryn.
I’m 73, and have such happy memories of myself and my little sister staying with my beloved grandmother and having cups of sweet tea and chocolate covered cow biscuits for breakfast. Makes my oats, fruit and yogurt breakfast seem quite boring now!
I’m American and I don’t like my sweets and savories to touch either! Pancakes always separate! But my husband likes all the flavors mixed. Ew. If I had to choose only one for breakfast, it would savory! Buttered Toast and very crunchy bacon is a favorite! So happy to hear the lightness and “jokiness” back in your voice. ❤️
Thanks for another great stitching project, my Mother- in- law was born in Lincolnshire she made the most delicious rhubarb and strawberry crumble. We have crumble home made.
Love your wittering. I haven’t been well and today was the first time I pulled stitching out. I hated it. Also in Australia there is a Red Hat Club they wear red and purple. They have outings and dress in their red and purple. I saw a group of them in Perth a week ago and it brings joy to my heart whenever I see them. Take care ❤🇦🇺🦘🧵Margaret
Hello K3N, I do so enjoy listenting to your whittering, I wanted to comment on a couple of things today. #1 Over Easy eggs and sunnyside up are tricky to make #2 I like sweet and savory for breakfast, an example would be, scrabbled egg ,with bacon and toast and jam😊 yes I am from the USA. And#3 there is nothing wrong with pie for breakfast😂 during the fall and winter holidays when theres a huge feast and you have no room left for pie so you eat it for breakfast! When you were talking about FredFred coming back there was joy in your voice. I have an older cat that used to go outside more than she does now and there were times when she wouldnt come home for a couple of days and I remember feeling really like a little miracle occured when she would appear out of nowhere and come sit in my lap and purr. Thankyou for sharing and stitching with us...I wondered why I kept all these scraps from quilting, now I know😊
Oh yes, I know what you mean, I was so delighted to see him, I greeted him like a returning hero. And yes to the breakfast but fry up first, followed by toast and jam on a separate plate. And a cup of tea. 😁❤️
The sound of the ticking clock reminds me of being at our Nanna's house. That clock also used to strike the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. Nanna's sofa seemed to have a soporific effect on her son (our dad) as he often dozed off there when we visited. My sofa at home here has the same effect on me whatever the time of day. That's why I sit at the dining table - or one of the reasons: the light is better, and I can see the birds in the garden; none of that would be any good if I were asleep! I had to do the week one weaving with paper as I had no cloth (or thought I didn't) so I plan to use cloth for the monochrome, which I think will have to be blue as I deliberately keep a small stock of cloth. I am looking forward to it. I'm glad you have friends who are close enough to visit. Also that there are people around where you live, but that it is still mostly quiet and peaceful. But I wonder if the otherness of it all suddenly washes over you from time to time, and I think that might be rather hard and sad for you. Sending love.
Thank you Nina, funnily enough you are absolutely right about the otherness, I talk about it a little bit in today's Park Home Life video. How lovely of you to be so perceptive ❤️
Crumble is lovely. I've just got the last of the gooseberry crop out of the freezer I was going to make a pie but you are right Kathryn crumble is much better. I got an amazing crop off just 1 busy in a big pot. Enjoy your Apple crumble.🐾🐾❤
I totally agree about crumble for breakfast. No excuses needed. Those purples are glorious. My colour for this piece is green, though I have very few fabrics in that. Loads of green embroidery floss stash, though.
To be honest….i could have Apple crumble (or the Dutch equivalent ‘Appel kruimel vlaai’) for breakfast, lunch And dinner. I don’t but i could😊 And another thing: my first love was absolutely paper, ever since i was a child. I had only just started stitching a little bit and then you came along. And that was it! Now I still love paper very much but I can not do without stitching. It has become a bit of a necessity for me in many ways so I really miss it and hope I can get back to it soon. Thanks for another lovely video Kathryn, so happy to hear you sound like you again.💖❤️🍀
From Canada... We made fruit crisp... flour, oats, a bit of sugar, butter, pinch of baking soda, salt and some cinnamon. Rub all together sprinkle it on the fruit dot with a bit of butter and bake until golden brown.😋
Oats in a crumble is something I do. I also have it for breakfast with Greek yoghurt. I am looking forward to doing this week. I’m still on the house week so have catching up to do.
Every times you say ‘look up’ I think of the Friendly Giant (puppet kid show in Canada and probably the US). The actor always say ‘look up, look way up’ (he was a giant and the puppet were normal size).
Loved this video. Thank you Kathryn. You help me to relax. Returning to the crumpets with Marmite theme again, I always throughout most of my life would have agreed with you that they go with sweet things. I then, more recently, noticed someone putting Marmite on their crumpets so I tried it. It was surprisingly good. I did check the ingredients of crumpets last night to see if they are sweet or not. They only contain a little sugar. The internet said they are usually eaten with a spread of butter or/and with sweet or savoury toppings. I do recommend that you try it if you like Marmite on toast or bread!! Please keep on making these wonderful videos Kathryn. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into making them.
I loved today's video (I love them all, and it's a wonderful way to start the week!) For me, anything with fruit in it is a breakfast food, and apple crumble (made with an oaty topping as I'm gf) or bread and apple pudding are tops in autumn and winter. My sister just gave me a box of foraged apples, so I know what I'll be making later. And my daughter is Tanith Kathryn, as it's my preferred spelling too 🙂 Fred Fred has no doubt been exploring his new domain, venturing further each time and meeting his feline neighbours, but he clearly knows where (and who) home is. Some cats are so bonded to their person that they can be let out as soon as the dust settles and you know they'll be back. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your work hanging on your walls.
My breakfast is always an English Muffin with strawberry rhubarb homemade jam. I loved your cloth weaving and I will try it again, hopefully mine will be better than the one i did for Week 1!😊 I used to be in a Red Hat Group, so fun!
Hi Kathryn yes we have crumble in New Zealand. When my five grandsons come to stay with me we have either fruit crumble or chocolate self-saucing pudding for dessert with ice cream and the boys always have the leftovers for breakfast including the ice cream. Definitely chocolates before breakfast at Christmas.
Chocolate comes from a plant.....therefore it can be considered salad! I make an apple crisp, using oatmeal as the crumble...so it is indeed breakfast food. Also....pancakes on the side...no syrup on my eggs, bacon, or potatoes. You sound fabulous and happy to know the three of you are settling in. huggs
Kathryn, you always have so many wonderful stories to share while creating these pieces of beauty. In Canada, we tend to call a crumble a 'crisp'. Or perhaps just my family. What is commercial cereal with added fruit, if not a crumble imposter! Have no qualms over eating same for breakfast. Muesli or your own mix of seeds and grains is a good addition. I always include oats. Many years ago, I vowed to live the purple dress and red hat life when aged. At 83, I am shamed to say I still worry over my appearance and practice useless dieting. This must change!!
I don't mind doing fabric weaving again as it's enjoyable to do. It's fun choosing the colours and stitching it all together. 💜 I'm glad to hear you are settling into your new home and new life. ❤
We have apple crumble in Australia, I sometimes add oats to mine, and always use brown sugar. I like bacon, fried banana and strawberries on my pancakes, with a dash of maple syrup, I enjoy sweet and savoury together. Think I will have to make a crumble soon, my husband will enjoy it.
My grandmother was Kathryn spelled correctly!! I think sometimes I block my sewing/creating because of things going on around me, I couldn't stitch when my husband was so sick because sewing makes me happy and it seemed unfair that I could be happy at a time when my husband was near the end. I very much enjoy stitching along with you!!!
I am sorry you felt that way Cindy but I do understand because I felt something similar when I lost my Dad. I didn't stitch for months. Then I made a lap quilt with his shirts and hankies and that was so helpful to me ❤️
Hi Kathryn, listening to you comments regarding the spelling of your name. Mine is spelt SuZan. My Dad named me, and the spelling is his. I love being different. Thank you for this stitching project. I'm doing mine in yellows 😊
Leftover dessert always makes the best breakfast! And chocolate before breakfast on Christmas Day is a happy tradition for this house too. Crumpets always deserve a sweet topping with a generous slather of butter - golden syrup or lemon honey are particularly good.
Love your chatter. Growing up in my home we could not have dessert until we finished our meal which sometimes made me too full for dessert. As an adult, I have chosen to have dessert first so in our home the sweets come before the meal. This never disturbed my children’s appetite or health or weight. And of course, we can have more dessert after if one wanted it. I believe denying yourself treats makes one overeat them. As for breakfast, it’s an anything goes. Bacon goes very well with nearly everything including ice cream. Try it 😊
Ooh love the purple woven fabrics 💜 I sometimes make crumble and i like to add some rolled oats, coconut & walnuts to it but haven't had it for breakky...hmm yet. Thank you K3n x
Good morning, I just recently found you on Instagram and am really enjoying your videos very much. I will go back and watch this series from the beginning, Kathy-I live on Lake in the Ozarks in Missouri USA
I love purple. One of my ancestors was the guy who first discovered a man made purple dye - Sir William Henry Perkin. :). I had to laugh when you said you had crumpets and honey for breakfast - I was eating exactly that 😊❤
In America, we have apple crumble. It may go by different names. I do add muesli to mine! And! I have come up with a new recipe for one person: I cook a cut up piece of fruit in a pan on the stove top. I like plums or peaches best. When it is ready, I pour it into a bowl, add to it bit of butter and then put a crushed-up graham cracker on top. A crushed-up butter cookie is also good. We ate chocolate and other goodies on Christmas morning before breakfast! The usual rules were tossed. I am one of eight children. We had to share those boxes of mixed candy. My older sister thought of a devious way to find out what was in the chocolates. She poked a tiny hole in the underside. If she did not like the filling, she could just investigate a different piece. My Mom could cook any kind of egg for her fussy children. I liked all eggs, but they had to be of a certain perfect doneness. Once, at my uncle's house, they made eggs for breakfast, and I was terrified that I would have to eat something wiggly. My Dad gave me a look, letting me know that I had to eat what put in front of me. I lived through it. I have felt worried about you as you go through these big changes. But, when I watched your video of you at the beach, I knew that you are OK. You have strength. You can live your life your own way now. Best wishes to you.
My grandfather traded a house for an apple orchard. So we had apples made in every single way you can I can image, but I still love apples. My grandmother would make an apple crisp which sounds like your apple crumble which is actually an oatmeal cookie like crumble up mix. All that delicious smell of apples, brown sugar-butter-oatmeal would make the hose smell delicious. This was southern Ohio (Appalachian foods). And we ate pie and crisp for breakfast with a cold glass of milk
Mustard with boiled eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast. Bacon, lettuce and tomato on toast with mayonnaise any time of day. Pancakes with butter and syrup together. Deceased husband liked peanut butter, sugar on his pancakes. I use crumble on pies and casseroles. Do the dump cakes it's like crumble on top. Love your purple 💜.
If it was in the house it was valid breakfast food. Chocolate cake, cold pizza, leftover Chinese food. Bacon and anything! Bacon buttertarts are a favourite!
Thankyou ! I really enjoyed listening today, so comforting x i also made apple crumble yesterday with some windfalls… ! I now feel quite justified in having a bowlful for breakfast 🤣
We call crumble a streusel in Germany, where I am originally from. Here in USA we have apple cobbler and apple crisp, uses oatmeal instead of flour. I surely have missed you since Wednesday. Glad to hear Fred-Fred found his way through the village and Stella and all her new friends. 😅💕💖🤗
Hi Kathryn, beautiful project. I will definitely try it. I have been taking naps for many years. On the couch and in my bed. I never sleep longer than a few hours🫣
In California my Mother(and her cookbook) called crumble apple betty and it always included cinnamon. I always get such fun ideas for projects from you Kathryn!
I’m relieved to hear about Fred Fred, after his foray into the wild! Intrepid little guy. I’m sure it’s been a transition and adjustment for him. Hope his “normal” continues with the cat door in place. Cats are a law into themselves, aren’t they? Dogs have owners, but cats have staff! Purple is one of my favorite colors, Royal purple and amethyst in particular. So happy you picked purple….❤
Yes the cat flap man came and measured up today. It will be a week or two but I will be glad not to have to leave the bathroom window open, heavy rain here at the moment and quite chilly ❤️
Loved the talk about breakfast. For me, its either sweet or its savoury - not both together. Like the sound of apple crumble for breakfast. Could have it with yoghurt? Eggs should be poached. No sauce on a bacon sandwich. Vegemite on a crumpet - yum! Just don't spread it too thick 😄
Hello Kathryn. Just got back from doing various errands in town. Wet, windy, chilly here in Eastern Wiltshire, (border with Hampshire). I suspect you have aimilar weather. So time for a frothy coffee and a sit down to enjoy watching your video. You're giving off happier vibes than in some of your recent videos - isn't it lovely to know that the only person in control of your life and future is yourself? I became a single parent with two small kiddies in ' 86, had to move to a small council house in.'87, couldn't get my big rectangular dining/cutting table in here (seats 8, 12 with two big end leaves out). Little time for sewing clothes, but perhaps I shall start sewing again, something like a journal, or small hand stitched craft projects, or things to give as gifts. Hand stitching is really therapeutic, the rest of the world just goes away. Take care. UK. E ❤
Thank you Eileen, yes much the same down here in Dorset. It is nice to be (somewhat) in control of my own life again indeed. I hope you enjoy stitching ❤️
Kathryn, I don't object to you mentioning our sometimes strange habits in America! That is one of the things I like about travelling and finding different customs in foods, clothing, speech, etc. What a boring world we would have if we all like the same thing. We do have something called Crumble in America but I thing the top is different ingredients from our Cobbler. Why - I don't know!! Mustard in eggs!!! Oh my - I will have to tell my grandson Joey about your son's experiment since he cooks too!!!Nice video - thank you
I do exactly the same with Musli in my crumbles. I do however prefer apple pie or stewed fruit with musli and yogurt. I’m with you … breakfast lunch and dinner/ tea
This is the one that gets right up my nose, New and Improved. 1) It is not new, it is the old one in a new smaller box/jar/bag/container. It is certainly is not an improvement and may even be inferior . There are so many more.
We had a cat and a grand piano. He learned that if he jumped from the top of the piano onto the keys at about 4am someone would get up and let him out. They are clever beasties and good at training humans.
I hope so Nancy, I think that is my main goal ❤️
Life may not be perfect, but you do sound better and that makes my heart happy. My grandmother used to say that if you could hear a clock tick in the house, it meant there was love there. I think it was her way of saying that everybody was not yelling, and there was a quietness in the house. We still have Denny’s and I live in the north east of United States. And for me breakfast is pretty much savory unless it’s a holiday then it tends to be on the sweet side wishing you were beautiful day.
Our Dennys closed in upstate NY. Miss it.
Thank you Jude, yes quiet enough to hear the clock ticking ❤️❤️❤️
Like Autumn leaves spin up in a whirlwind, my emotions flutter back to Earth in a many colored quilt.❤
Beautiful words Jenny ♥️
A lovely peaceful morning stitching. So happy FredFred came home. He has been staying at home while you and Stella had all the adventures. He is now having his own adventures. Thank you for sharing another wonderful sewing session. Have a glorious day ❤
Thank you Pam, you too ❤️
When I was a child my favorite color was yellow, but at some point I realized I no longer have a favorite color.
❤ enjoyed your wittering too!
Absolutely Chocolate is definitely its own food group. The more the better but not white chocolate (which isn’t really chocolate at all)
Snack size is for wimps 😂 I also don't know if I respect people who can eat one square of a bar of chocolate and save the rest or if I think that is just way too much self control 🤔😁 lots of love ❤️
Great Aussie thoughts there, seconded by a “Southerner” Could not do without your witterings Kathryn. Much love ❤
You mentioned you want to do a rooftop curtain. This quote from Loretta Pettway Bennett from Gees Bend spoke to me and may to you. “My mother, her mother and my aunts have sewn the foundation. All I have to do is thread the needle.”
🧡
That's wonderful 😊
Ah, the chiming clocks and echoing bells of our lives! It's the simple things that trigger happy memories and feelings of just being in the right place. What a lovely way to start another darn week at work, thank you ❤ My heart feels lighter 😊😊😊
I am happy to hear it, have a great week 😊
Unexpected item combos that work:
• Strawberries with black pepper.
I need to get out more 😂
❤ enjoyed your wittering
@@SandraPujari-Harrian Aaaw, thank you Sandra 💟
Me too ❤️
Strawberries and black pepper, yes.
@@k3n.clothtales Oooh, yes! Cocoa powder in chilli - gives it a wonderful rich depth 💟
Kind and wrinkly, I love that ❤️
@@k3n.clothtales 😁
tick.. Tick.. Ticking away, the soft pitter patter of the lovely rain, the clangingof the gong chiming the minutes and the soothing witting along with your stitching are all loverly and charming and cuddly.
Love the ticking clock, and chime! You have me admiring purple!
Yes it does indeed Jayne with a Y. 😁♥️
My sisters name is Jayne
I am so glad I am not the only one with the naughty breakfasts 😂♥️
I have eaten cheesecake occasionally for breakfast, my logic is that it has eggs and cream cheese, anyway so many breakfast foods have sugar so who gets to make the decisions on if it is a breakfast food or not. So glad Fred Fred returned home safely!❤
Enjoying my coffee with you this morning. Glad you are continuing your sewing. We have had similar experiences.
Hugs Donna 🤗
Park (Home) Life coming this Friday. The cat flap will be a couple of weeks yet 😁❤️
We call our sofa naps 'checking for pinholes'.
I'll ask,'Are you asleep?' No, just checking for pinhole.
Yes! My Dad used to say that 😁❤️
You continue to bring up happy memories in your stories. My family makes Apple "Crisp" which sounds just like your crumble only with oatmeal added. Christmas morning - there's chocolate in our stockings (and adults have stockings too) and the chocolate is eaten whenever you want!
So glad to hear that Fred Fred is getting used to his new home and surroundings 😸
And glad to hear about your progress in turning your house into your very own home. It is so important to have a home where you fell safe and relaxed in🙂
Wishing you all the best 🌞
Thank you Heidi ♥️
IMHO bacon and maple syrup are a sublime combination. Oh, and they fit into my favorite part of the color wheel--autumn.
Thank you Bella, so do you still call it a full English and not a full Welsh? 🤔❤️
@@k3n.clothtales yes we call it a full English here never a full Welsh. Lol
Funny you discussed apples. My latest craving is homemade chunky applesauce. Love it with the skins on . Add a touch of water and cinnamon and cook stovetop until soft. Then I make a delicious dessert with sugar free whip cream and walnuts.
Oh yes cinnamon and apple is a perfect combination ♥️
Napping on the sofa is a sign that you're truly at home ❤
I love the sound of the rain and it's been lovely in Cambridgeshire too the last couple of days.
I'm glad to have another go at a weaving piece as I've learned a lot about what's pleasing to me since week one 😊 Looking forward to park home life updates and hope you're doing well xx
Thank you Becky, I must be home because I napped again this afternoon 😁❤️
Hi Kathryn, I loved this video, love them all really, but I was so engrossed with what you were saying that I was upset when you said bye bye. It was like a good friend saying goodbye after visiting me. You are so interesting and funny. I love all the stories about the new doggies that you and Stella have made friends with and all about Frefreds antics. I love overnight oats for breakfast, and love the sweetness of it, so yes I agree you can enjoy sweet things of a morning. And apple crumble in the morning is so allowed yum yum. What a gem you are, Diane x
Thank you so much Diane that's such a lovely thing to say ❤️
Thanks, Kathryn. I needed a night of your sewing, whittering, and ticking clock. Loved it all. Best wishes and take care. ❤
Thank you Anna, much love ♥️
When I was backpacking in NZ some years back we used to go out for breakfast and most cafes had bacon and banana pancakes on the menu. I love sweet and Sally combinations so tried it and really enjoyed it. Now if we go out for breakfast I usually order a bacon roll and put my own banana on it. Most people think it's weird until they try it (if they try it!). So delicious 😋
Thank you for another lovely stitching video. I love both the stitching and the wittering. The witterings take me to different times and places throughout my life! X
I am not sure I am adventurous enough for bacon and banana 😂❤️
I love this so much!! purple is definitely one of my favorites! And I didn't jump and spit out my tea , but I was absolutely delighted that you noticed me and my love of your way of couching 💚💚💚! Thank you!!! I'm so glad things are going as well as they are with your home and FredFred and Stella and lovely neighbors!

I was going to sign off to go to bed and your video popped up so I'm awake and now, here rummaging thru my scrappy stuff to play along. I blame you for bringing joy in my late nights
still stitching, actually both You and Ms Marion😂🥰😘, Love the colours.
Hi Jude, sorry to keep you up at night 😁♥️♥️♥️
I love apple crumble for breakfast! Also leftover rice pudding! Not strange at all 💕
I love cold left over rice pudding
I am actually rubbish at making rice pudding. It's either concrete or liquid, no in between 😂❤️
Hahaha I'm just watching this video and come to the part where you were saying about your favourite number '5 million' of something.
Thank you, I don't know, I am a strange mix of self confidence and totally unsure... ☺️♥️
Lovely watching and listening…hearing a little resilient bounce in your voice …I know resilience comes and goes in us all….but so good to hear it! xxx
Thank you Lesley, yes it comes and goes indeed but it returns which is important to remember when it's gone ❤️
LOVE that poem, it's my favourite ❤
I was born in Canada and brought up in New England, so maple syrup with waffles or pancakes and bacon is amazing!
I do like salted caramel ice-cream so perhaps I need to be more adventurous 😂❤️
1st off, I love chocolate, anytime. 😂 Try strawberry short cake for breakfast. Yum We do have pie, cobbler and crumbles here in the U S. You wont offend us. We are all friends here❤ glad Fredfred is home and settling in
Thank you Judy ☺️
I also love Wendy and her Waffles - she is a delight. Also, I am definitely in the crumble for breakfast club. Peach, apple, blueberry, strawberry-rhubarb - any crumble will do. I add oats in mine which also makes it breakfast. 😂😂😂❤
Yes! 😁❤️
Grannies are allowed to spoil their grandchildren 🥰
Katherine I do enjoy your videos also keep on wittering and also enjoy the ticking of the clock when I go to bed.😊😊
Thank you Jill ❤️
I love your color! Purples, blues and more- not yellow or orange- my fav which she get!
Hello Margaret, sorry you have been poorly, I hope you feel better. How lovely that the Red Hat Society is worldwide ❤️
Love your fabric.
I love gooseberries 🤗❤️
We have a family tradition of ice cream cake for breakfast on birthdays!
Sounds delicious 😋
I totally agree about crumble for breakfast. No excuses needed.
Those purples are glorious. My colour for this piece is green, though I have very few fabrics in that. Loads of green embroidery floss stash, though.
I had crumble for breakfast today, peach this time. It's becoming a habit. 😁❤️
Good for you!
Thank you Machteld, I thought you had said you were new to stitching but your work looks like you have been doing it for years 🥰
@@k3n.clothtales I think I will take that compliment and frame it, thank you!!!! 💖🍀💕
From Canada... We made fruit crisp... flour, oats, a bit of sugar, butter, pinch of baking soda, salt and some cinnamon. Rub all together sprinkle it on the fruit dot with a bit of butter and bake until golden brown.😋
Good news about the walls and the crate shelving unit that is firmly in place!
I don't know the Friendly Giant but he sounds lovely 😍
I had the last of the crumpets this morning, with honey. Next time I will try marmite 😁♥️
And my daughter is Tanith Kathryn, as it's my preferred spelling too 🙂
Fred Fred has no doubt been exploring his new domain, venturing further each time and meeting his feline neighbours, but he clearly knows where (and who) home is. Some cats are so bonded to their person that they can be let out as soon as the dust settles and you know they'll be back.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing your work hanging on your walls.
Thank you Michelle, Tanith is a beautiful and unusual name. ❤️
My breakfast is always an English Muffin with strawberry rhubarb homemade jam. I loved your cloth weaving and I will try it again, hopefully mine will be better than the one i did for Week 1!😊
I used to be in a Red Hat Group, so fun!
I can just picture you Leona ❤️
Hi Kathryn yes we have crumble in New Zealand. When my five grandsons come to stay with me we have either fruit crumble or chocolate self-saucing pudding for dessert with ice cream and the boys always have the leftovers for breakfast including the ice cream.
Definitely chocolates before breakfast at Christmas.
Grannies are allowed to give their grandchildren ice cream for breakfast. That's a universal law 😁❤️
Chocolate comes from a plant.....therefore it can be considered salad! I make an apple crisp, using oatmeal as the crumble...so it is indeed breakfast food. Also....pancakes on the side...no syrup on my eggs, bacon, or potatoes. You sound fabulous and happy to know the three of you are settling in. huggs
I love that! 😁❤️
I love the sound of a chiming clock. I'm going to wind mine up so I can hear it while I stitch. Thankyou Katherine.
A few people have mentioned crisp so I think it's a 'thing'. And yes you must, stop worrying I mean. You are gorgeous. 🥰
I don't mind doing fabric weaving again as it's enjoyable to do. It's fun choosing the colours and stitching it all together. 💜 I'm glad to hear you are settling into your new home and new life. ❤
Thank you Lucille, I am glad you enjoyed it 😊
We have apple crumble in Australia, I sometimes add oats to mine, and always use brown sugar.
Apple crisp is is similar to your apple crumble. We make it with oatmeal .
Try it 😊
I am not sure about bacon and ice-cream but I like the sound of dessert first 😁❤️
Ooh love the purple woven fabrics 💜 I sometimes make crumble and i like to add some rolled oats, coconut & walnuts to it but haven't had it for breakky...hmm yet. Thank you K3n x
Good morning, I just recently found you on Instagram and am really enjoying your videos very much. I will go back and watch this series from the beginning, Kathy-I live on Lake in the Ozarks in Missouri USA
Welcome!! 😊
I love purple. One of my ancestors was the guy who first discovered a man made purple dye - Sir William Henry Perkin. :). I had to laugh when you said you had crumpets and honey for breakfast - I was eating exactly that 😊❤
I must look him up, how cool. I had crumpets and honey again for breakfast because I forgot the apple crumble in the fridge 😂
@@k3n.clothtales Apple crumble is a great breakfast! Fruit and muesli added in = perfect breakfast :) x
Thank you Barbara. For the recipe and the good wishes ❤️❤️❤️
Red Sauce!!!! Can you tell I am commenting as I am watching!! 😆
😋 yes I can, but I see your comments in reverse 😂♥️
My grandfather traded a house for an apple orchard. So we had apples made in every single way you can I can image, but I still love apples. My grandmother would make an apple crisp which sounds like your apple crumble which is actually an oatmeal cookie like crumble up mix. All that delicious smell of apples, brown sugar-butter-oatmeal would make the hose smell delicious. This was southern Ohio (Appalachian foods). And we ate pie and crisp for breakfast with a cold glass of milk
I love that, trading a house for an orchard. And yes agree about apples. If you could only have one fruit, I would choose apple 😁❤️
Mustard and eggs is a 'thing' then? I must apologise to my son..😉 now when you say crumble on casserole, is that a savoury crumble? ♥️
If it was in the house it was valid breakfast food. Chocolate cake, cold pizza, leftover Chinese food. Bacon and anything! Bacon buttertarts are a favourite!
Thankyou ! I really enjoyed listening today, so comforting x
i also made apple crumble yesterday with some windfalls… ! I now feel quite justified in having a bowlful for breakfast 🤣
Totally agree that a "Fun Size" bar of chocolate 🍫 should be bigger and not smaller 💯
Yes, it's just wrong! 😂♥️
Apple crumble sounds like what we call Apple Crisp. I’m pretty crazy about anything apple and apple crisp is wonderful 🍎 🥧
We call crumble a streusel in Germany, where I am originally from. Here in USA we have apple cobbler and apple crisp, uses oatmeal instead of flour. I surely have missed you since Wednesday. Glad to hear Fred-Fred found his way through the village and Stella and all her new friends. 😅💕💖🤗
Chocolate coins was what we were allowed before our breakfast on Christmas morning. Selection box Boxing Day .Happy days
I am going to try this today. Happy to hear Fredfred is returned.!! My exggerating number is always 58,000 ha ha.
🤣❤️❤️❤️
Oh my - I will have to tell my grandson Joey about your son's experiment since he cooks too!!!Nice video - thank you
My pleasure, I agree it's so interesting reading everyone's different breakfast habits and variations of crumble. ❤️
Yes, I think 'they' the advertising people must think we're stupid 😉❤️
We had a cat and a grand piano. He learned that if he jumped from the top of the piano onto the keys at about 4am someone would get up and let him out. They are clever beasties and good at training humans.
Oh yes!! I had a cat Ralph she the would only do naughty things when she thought I should be awake lol
If Fredfred wants attention and the TV is on, he will sit in front of the screen 😁❤️
