  • In short, the answer is yes. You can definitely build a Hot Tub in a basement. There are however, a number of design considerations that you need to think about. In this video, we will examine what the design considerations are for putting a hot tub in a basement.
Over the last few months, I have been asked on several occasions to design a hot tub for a basement. It seems to be a “thing”. I guess it makes sense as the chances of you getting a plastic shell tub into a basement is next to none!
In general, there is just not the access. As more and more people are renovating their basements, I think this is going to become more and more popular. It is also a fantastic use of the space - there are just a few considerations you need to thing about when designing a hot tub for a basement.

I have a huge living room in my basement the point is how do you get it through the door!? They are too big and I don't want some cheap inflatable thing that could break that's just a hot tub I want a Jacuzzi with all the Jets. Otherwise I could just sit in a hot bath. LOL

Edwin thanks for the comment - this was the reason I built my own tub back in the day - couldn’t get a plastic tub into my garden because of access issues - most basement tubs are custom built - hope that helps -

Hey Andy would love to hear your thoughts on building a hot tub on the roof

Hi Brendan, needs to be a strong roof! lol. Thanks for the comment. I'm actually doing a project at the moment with a customer in Chile. He is putting one on the roof level of his appartment building so hopefully we be sending me some footage to use. That said, this one is interesting, as he wants a "non-fixed" block/cocnrete tub that is not attached to the floor so he can crane onto a new level he might build in the future. Never a straight forward project for me! - can't complain though! Cheers - Andi

Thanks for the comment - perhaps use the contour and have a deep end for your tub? Lots of different ways to achieve the same thing - I have plans and designs in my store - shop.buildahottub.com - hope that helps - Andi
