Is the rider actually good at dealing damage? In the first game most of your damage came from the monstie and the rider is mostly there to buff and heal.
One good tip that I noticed involving combat. The type that an enemy starts with, technical for example, will be the one that is most effective when they become enraged. At least so far as I've gotten into it
Its not always. You could get a good guess by seeing the monster you fighting. I have seen a lot of tech monsters, go to power option when enraged. But i also see some of them go for speed. Hell there is one tech monsters that blocks your power attacks when enraged and keeps using tech skills.
65 hours in and have been using exactly the opposite of all of these weapon choices ahah Greatsword I personally found more fun than SnS just because of the charge mechanics and the ability to do insane unga-bunga, big number finishers. Similar thoughts surrounding the hammer but with the added benefit of it nabbing you some of those extra parts from breakages and getting retreat rates up for some monsters. Gunlance is incredible for it's ability to completely refill your kinship gauge immediately by winning a HtH with all of your shells filled. This sometimes allows you to perform your kinship finisher, win a HtH and then immediately perform the kinship skill again or get off your wyvern's fire. This has been big for getting me through an entire 3-turn buff from my opponent and only actually having to think during one of those 3 turns. ALSO it's good for quickly charging the kinship gauge for an under-levelled monster that you've just gotten because you want to see its animation ASAP. Informative video though, will be trying the other weapons off the back of this for sure!
I personally think that one of each monstie type its ok, but two of each its the true perfect combination to enable 100% head to head favorable matching without spending kinship.
Both the gunlance and bow require two turns to unleash their “special” skills. That being said, the significant defense buff plus the wyrmstake just make it the better option since status is easy to apply with the easily craftable throwing knives.
That and it's super easy to spam kinship attacks with gunlance using reload and kin up skills. Every other turn you can pretty much fill the gauge from 0 to 100
Thanks fo talking about the Nutrients! I actually restarted my game on the Trial because theres a way to farm them and I just wanted a nice jumpstart before release.
I build up kinship like its a joke, I have the charm and the armor (Bulldrome) so I never have a problem building it up. Honestly, I use skills to buff/heal either way (bosses), though I've never ran into a need for the bar(bubble) to be built up quickly.
First tip, and I’m already excited! It’s been a few years since I played Stories 1, but I remember nutriments being perma-buffs, so I’ve been hoarding them in the demo. 11 more hours to go! (Assuming it drops midnight in our appropriate timezone)
I think GunLance vs. Bow is a wash, really. Yes, Bow hits harder with charge and some status. Gunlance gives you defense and builds Kinship like mad. It also gives you another defensive option later on in the form of, effectively, a taunt. IE, I think the damage *over the fight* is about on par when you include the extra kinship buildup and the utility it provides is comparable to, just in a different form than, the bow.
Gunlance in this game is good for kinship spam on monsties or a 2 turn ride on, bow is bow. Hammer is good for abusing status afflicting monsties or yourself with the bow for bonus damage, hunting horn is overall safe pick for utility and damage if done right. Greatsword with instantaneous damage hits harder when doing true slash attack after one charge, regardless of crit, while Sw&Sh can be abused with high crit chance for better DPS overall. Honestly its just playstyle at this point. I wonder if they are gonna add DB, lance, and bowguns in the future
I haven’t used it yet, but does the hammer’s status chaser moves give it any viability when paired with a mon or bow that does that specific status? Just asking cause I’m interested, but I’m also terrible and using hunting horn😖
My favorite thing is using a Sleepseal Chase Hammer with Nerscylla. A lot of sleep status, and getting the double attack also fills gauge. Stellar performance, and I can make Nerscylla use Sleep Chaser if I don't have 2 bars yet
There is an app for android that tells you almost all the Info on monster and monsties for mhs2. That being said I had no idea you could stack/upgrade same genes on monsties. I was level 40ish before I learned that from a friend.
Which weapons did you test specificly. Because if the stats are not identical or at least almost, your test is off. (Unless the weaker one will still output more damage). Also did you test only the wrapon skills or also the combined hth attacks
I have questions on the Prayer Pot. What item drops the player can get when we scan amiibo at Prayer Pot? Is Monster Hunter amiibos only accepted at Prayer Pot?
You can scan any amiibo. The items you get are kinda random, but nothing really amazing. You have a chance to get a full moon bonus on the lottery from it which gives you a decent amount of items, but usually its just like 1 item. The MHS2 amiibo give you a bonus costume on first scan. MHStories 1 amiibo (any) give you the costume of the character from the 1st game. MH rise amiibo (any) gives you a sticker set. After you get the bonus they don't do anything extra. Just the daily roulette. You can do 10 a day.
If you choose to be a weapon specialist great sword, hammer and gunlance can be good. If you prioritize weakpoints then sns, horn and bow will always be better. The latter require some form of dedication to get their max payout with Gunlance having the biggest payoff. Damn that thing is annoying to fight but, the hunting horn can just wipe clean everything it does unless they are a gunlancer with an ice monstie. Skillseal + Power/Speed/Tech Seal... What a joke lol... but then you just use an item when your weapons are locked.
Dude I swear you're wrong on Greatsword. I did the math and let's say your SnS does 140-150 per turn, the Greatsword does 160-260 per turn(with the Final strike being the bulk of the damage)
Having spent most of the demo playing Greatsword and the majority of the beginning of the released game I think Greatsword has so much more damage than SnS and I still haven't used anything other than the Pukei Greatsword.
Bow is definitely better for story, but the kinship building from GL is just way too good to pass up for post game. Hell, I went through the entire game just using an Aptonoth and GL, it honestly made the game a bit TOO easy once I had the Rite of Channeling
@@18nightc322 You sure? Because their other video clearly said you can easily carry your team forward. A large part of what makes your monsties work are their genes, and genes are transferable.
That Zinogre you have at 0:57! Why didn't it change colors, like it would have in MHSt1?? Also, since it has nothing but Power genes, does it opt into using power attack more often than it would speed attacks?? I ask cause I saw its nature is still a Speed type, but has no speed genes? (Mainly asking cause I want to know if one can change the nature of the Monstie) Also, THANK YOU for actually have played the first Stories!!! I keep seeing informative vids for MHSt2 from people that haven't played the first one, and it kind of voids their advice, in my opinion.
It would be great if you said in the title if the video is spoiler free or not. Like, even just seeing monsters could be considered a spoiler... you know what I mean? I want to see beginners tip but I didn't want to know Nergigante was in the game watching a RUclips video :(
Man, I cant tell you how disappointing it is to hear there are clearly best weapon types. Like "saps my will to play" disappointing. I was hoping the types would be at least mostly balanced so it came down to personal choice, but the way you describe it is just...awful. Dammit, that ruins the game...
It’s just my opinion and my experience of using each type. It’s possible I missed something or my preference and play style is a certain way. I wouldn’t let it ruin your game, try them all out and see how you get on!
Greatsword is 10x better than SnS you should try it. Hammer unfortunately requires you to be targeted to gain Meter(or rely on sync attacks) Gunlance is OP but really has to build up that meter(Also relies on HtH and Sync).

@@gatotkacaputrabima I would say yes in both PVP and PVE. The right elemental weapon and skill can do good damage especially with crits
Maybe you can make a Egg opening video like your talisman videos? I can imagine it would be great.
Not blaming you, but I wish I saw this video before I wasted bottlecaps on the gunlance with the melynx
Can you make a video on how to have deviant monsties ???

Nergigante moves like a toad
I love this comment
An alternative Tetsucabra
But hits like a truck
still gonna use gunlance!

Glad to hear all the weapons I like are strongest lol
Thanks for the video, hyped to get to play the game tomorrow! (I preordered on PC)
Ey paradise was wondering which Monster does Crimson Qurupeco calls?
Now you’ll need to make a video discussing all the secret items if there are any, which i’m sure there’s plenty of hidden things MHS2 doesn’t tell you
