Even people who spend time bashing the Switch more than others really love the Pro Controller, and it's just $5 dollars more than a PS4 controller (a new Dualshock controller is actually $64.99, I went to Best Buy and saw it.) I say if you're a hardcore type of gamer, go for it. Also, it has more battery life.

Not fair to say the Pro Controller is the less expensive option for playing with friends considering a pair of Joycons will actually allow for 2 additional players in many games. Knowing that, the Joycon price really is not too surprising. It really comes down to the game you're playing, the number of friends you typically play with, and the comfort of each option for the individual.
Keith Fernandes download chrome. Download refresh. Have the page refresh every second. Until something pops up. Checking NowinStock.com helps if None of it works just wait and try to get it early in launch if you're lucky
I've been considering getting one. It's very expensive, worth the price of a game, really. I've heard that it's one of the best controllers out there now, how it feels, the gyro, it can use amiibo, and the battery is very good. But it's just so expensive. I'll probably end up getting one, most likely for Christmas.
Coming from playing a PS4 dualshock 4 controller with 7-8 hours of battery 40 is significant to me. I totally do not need 80 hours though. I don't play that much. Plus I'd rather have my battery cut for a more premium build, gyro , HD rumble, and NFC
I have to say, I finally got a hold of a Pro controller and it's a game changer. I don't know what Gabe is talking about here. I'm sure there was personal preference and/or stubborness involved, but there's no excuse not to want a Pro controller other than you can't find one or can't justify the price. As far as people complaining about the directional pad, they've gotta be off their rockers. I've tested it out with multiple games and it works extremely well. My scores went up and games became 10x more enjoyable.
I was really hoping you'd mention the directional pad difference in the pro controller and the single joycon joystick or even the two joycon on the grip. I love playing platformers and metroidvanias and I'm worried about the lack of a directional pad, that alone is making me think about getting a pro controller. I'm also hoping Nintendo releases a joycon with directional pads instead of the joystick down the line, I really think that will sell.
Everybody complaining about the pricetag of the pro controller.... They are aware of how much PS4 controllers retail price is right? And Let's not even mention Xbox One's Elite controllers. It's also worth noting that the PS4 was priced at $400 at launch and XBone was $500 right? And these same people went out and bought those by the metric butt-tonne. So Switch being under $300 is "less" than that right? Or is my math not working? :-|
Walboro lol.. the elites controller isn't a comparison.. and Xbox and Ps4 are more powerful and once you buy all the accessories and extra controllers for the switch I costs more than Xbox and Ps4
Walboro Compared to the Dualshock 4 and Switch Pro Controller, the pro controller wins, but not by much. The dualshock 4 loses because the battery power sucks.
ImThatKid actually, yes it is a comparison. The Elite controller is ridiculous. Also, son I think your brain broke buddy if you think there's any kind of gap between PS4/Xbone and Switch. Did you eat chinese paint when you were younger?
The steep price of the controller is completely justified. A chord for the switch is 20 dollars. Gyro costs at least 20 dollars. I would argue that it is actually a bargain.
shigeru miyamoto It's the difference between Wii U Pro controllers and the GCN controller, more ergonomic, can't really describe it better without having it in hand sadly. Hope I helped.
shigeru miyamoto, I would suggest trying it yourself at game stop or Best Buy. Everyone has differently shaped hands, so there's no real way to tell for everyone.
I have my pro controller ordered and it's set to get here a few days after the switch itself. So I'll have a few days to get feel for the joy con alone and in their grip before I compare them to the pro controller. Though I will say, you two are the first two people I've heard prefer the joy con grip... So I'm interested to see which I end up preferring.
Quentin Kaalekahi I agree completely, however luckily in my case I got my own gaming chair and small gaming set up with a long headphone cord so I’m good
when you are defending procontroller there is literally no logic, its just being super nintendo fanboy, not sure this is how you should approach this subject. I love my pro-controller but it is over-priced and is equal or even less valued than 3-4 year old xbox or ps4 controller.
my GOD!!! listening to the bitching about a controller that people used less than 10 hours or most haven't even tried it. after a few hundred hours i'm sure the discussion won't be the same. You think the R&D and testing was done with 10 min trial xD
I'm so fed up with everybody claiming gyro is the way to go with splatoon. I don't use gyro at all and am Always in the top 2 players every single match so nope gyro isn't' the way to go with splatoon.
It all depends on the person and also on TIME. For example, I hated the Xbox 360 controller when I first played Xbox 360, but when it was time for me to buy a new controller for my gaming PC, I ended up buying the Xbox 360 controller and to this day, I do not want any other controller for PC gaming. And even though I don't use it all that much because I use keyboard and mouse, for the games that I do like using a controller for, I love having the Xbox 360 controller. I guess my point is that at first you might not like it but before you know it, you might be telling everyone that it is one of the best, if not the best, controllers you've ever used. I already pre-ordered my Switch Pro controller and I hope it is as great as I think it can be, but I have to give it a real try first.
Hypervenom941 and the Switch controller lasts almost 2 full days, has gyro controls which is perfect 👌 for splatoon (best way to play) , NFC reader for amiibo, HD rumble, and the fact that it *comes with a USB C cable that charges the Pro controller and can charge the switch too*
I've got big old hands and while the joy cons are just fine, I'm glad I got a pro controller. is like a combination of the ps4 controller with is length and an Xbox controller with its lay out and grips. is a basic pick up and play controller with gyro controls. It's great. Not sure about the digital triggers though.
Best Buy is the only place that I could find them available for pre order. Every other retailer seems to have sold out of their launch stock, likely holding a few for in store purchases on launch day as well.. But I was able to grab one today from the Best Buy website.
I think any complaint about how the controller "feels" is mostly directed at the fact that since it is translucent, it is making you actively think about the fact that it is plastic. The usual opaque look of a controller doesn't make you think about its materials. Even if the pro controller is made of more solid plastic than the PS4 or XBone controllers, people who don't typically think about controller construction are going to think it looks cheap.
have to go with joy cons, mainly because in the winter I'll be able to play games with my hands in a zip up hoodie AND I don't have to bring a whole controller with me on travel. I will be getting a pro controller at launch too, but mainly for player 2 or for Splatoon
My only complaint about the Switch Pro Controller is the color. I'm not a fan of black consoles/controllers due to dust and fingerprint issues. But I'm definitely going to buy one. But not right away. I won't be able to afford it until April.
I've played NES equipment since I worked for them in 1988-89. When Zelda came out. Both the NES Advantage and the NES Super Advantage controllers are the frame of reference I see this new Pro controller from. I'm thinkin this pro version you've shown is likely the closest to their original "Pro" controllers of that era we're gonna see. The controllers shown coming with the system look like they're made for little kids only, to me as an adult.
I'm in this NintendoSwitch group on Facebook and quite a few people have used the pro controller and don't like it and like the joycons. I'll probably get the pro controller sometime because I like controllers like that when I play mario kart. But I'll try the joycons and just see which I like more.
I dont see myself doing tabletop mode alone much. Handheld the switch is with you and wont fall, and you don't need a charging grip cause you can just charge the switch. I might use tabletop for MK8 and stuff, but thats about it.
I will be getting one day 1... but for later games down the road. Games like Splatoon 2, Skyrim, and any games that would require a more traditional controller. I will not be opening it day 1, as I want to give the joycon grip a chance for Zelda and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (when that is released in April). It will be nice to have in case I want to use it. If I can deal with the joncon grip when I use it with Zelda, MK8, and the Splatoon 2 test fire, I may sell the pro controller to someone who will use it.
I don't have my Switch yet, should be here within the next month or so Stock permitting, and I have the Pro Controller Splatoon version ready and waiting to be used along with some Nuglas screen protectors, after watching youtube vids about the screen getting scratched. Looking forward to getting the Switch.
I started out thinking the pro controller was essential, but lately I've been thinking getting a second pair of joy cons, for games like arms and mario kart 8, may make more sense.
Personally I want one, but I also want to wait and see if I really need one... I haven't had the opportunity to play the Switch yet so I haven't been able to use any control set-up and for all I know the Grip/handheld set-up could be more than satisfactory...I never bothered getting the Wii U Pro controller (mainly because the Gamepad was required for most games)...If I ever find myself needing another controller then the Pro controller will definitely be the go to choice... If there's a sale or price drop then I might go ahead and pick one up as is...
I'm going to be buying a pro controller at launch but I'm going to give the joycons a try in the grip frist and if I like that I'll be returning the pro controller
I'm gonna be getting another set of joy cons when arms comes out for local multiplayer and a pro controller either near launch or when splatoon 2 comes out, whenever my budget allows.
Can you guys do a video about joycon rubber grips? I have no clue what I'm getting, as there are many designs and I want to see them before choosing between ergonomic, symmetrical styled, plain grips, or even controller extenders. Or even when the switch comes out buy 6 or so different grips and do a review video (it may seem like a lot but it would be vastly helpful to many).
The switch pro controls have HD rumble right?!? (Edit you answered my question lol...nice to see all the cool new features are universal to all switch controls)
joycons + grip pros are 1 you can play 4 player on games that support split joycon 2 you have two "wii mote and nunchuck" and can play 2 player motion games 3 any game that supports 2 player can be played. cons 1 it's $80 + 30 if you want the grip 2 if you dont by anything else you can only charge one set at a time 3 battery life is only 20 hours pro controllers pros are 1 it's only $70 no additional accessories needed 2 the dpad is not split though I think that will all come down to personal preference 3 longer battery life at 40 hours cons 1 you can't play 4 player with 1 set of joycons and a pro controller only three 2 you can't play 2 player motion controlled games that use both joycons like a wii mote and nunchuck 3 you and your friend will fight over who gets to use it
People are saying that the dpad is broken but i just bought the controller this week and it works peefectly fine. I think they fixed it (i have the classic model)
I so can't wait for the Nintendo switch just 9 more days left :D also I might just see which controller I like more but I'll definitely be using the joycons more because they come with the console no need to spend $70 :D
I personally haven't tried either of them, but to me I need the joy cons separately and gripped together to feel amazing. If I can't stand the base line controller then the console will take a big hit in me playing it. That's why the only Nintendo console I really didn't play that much, the n64, had an uncomfortable standard controller to me. The n64s games were top notch at times, but I was playing my PSx WAY more than my n64 and that's why, the controller was comfortable. The pro controller does look nice though and I'll definitely pick up one some day, but that $70 price tag is ridiculous for not having purely analog controls, I don't care what kind of fancy motion controls and 4K rumble it has (that was a joke I know it's called hd rumble). I'm not gonna pay an above average price for a controller that has cool new features, but not all the standard ones.
I ordered a pro controller along with the switch. I have always been gaming on conventional controllers, so was sceptical on how much i would like the joycons. After playing with both, I still prefer the pro controller, but the joycons are suprisingly nice even with the tiny size. Have yet to play with the joycons with the grip, wo can't say anything about that.
For the next Nintendo Console after the Nintendo Switch, I hope Nintendo goes back to their original roots of the NES & SNES days with the controllers. Both the NES & SNES had great controllers that were very comfortable in your hands. That changed when the Nintendo Wii came out. I love the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, I think its an excellent controller & I think its well worth it. Nintendo Needs to make the pro controller the main controller on their next console.
I just want to say that the Nintendo pro controller is a awesome, and everyone seems to agree with that but the analogue thumbs ticks wear out from wearing against the frame of the controller. Very similar to the dreaded dandruff on the n64 controller, for 70 bucks I'm shocked how easily the plastic on the thumb sticks wears out. Going to attempt to replace my thumb sticks with aluminum ones.
I would only get a pro controller because of the way I hold my controller. I put up 4 fingers on the triggers (one for each top button) and for the Joycons grip it seems I wouldn't be able to do that.
I did a cost/benefit analysis and determined that I'm going to go with an extra $80 set of Joycons and a $30 charging grip over the pro controller at launch. Why? Because by going this way, I will now be able to play four player games if I have buddies over(if I split the Joycons) whereas the pro controller only brings you up to 3 players.
I don't know. I think the joycon grip is plenty comfortable for me, maybe one day if I hold a pro controller and love it I might get it, but right now I don't feel like dropping $70 on something to later find out that I didn't even really need it.

Who cares about battery life? You can just get a long wire.
40hr battery life, motion control, NFC, HD rumble all things that a $49.99 controllers doesn't have totally worth the extra $20 :)
Manni Ida well,whatever you say
For me it's gonna be $100, compared to the Switch as $400 so I'm not buying it.

Subgoat how can you get one without preordering?
Robbie Barousse Go to a store that will sell the switch and be lucky that you will get one. If not you have to wait till April (probably)

Can you guys do a video on how to get a Nintendo switch if you haven't preordered it
Keith Fernandes Go to a shop and buy it.
VulcanBlitzWing VBW It's not that simple they're sold out
Keith Fernandes Wait until they're restocked
Theaa 47 I try to but they go in like 15 minutes I keep missing it
Keith Fernandes download chrome.
Switch Controller Pro: Lasts less than 45 hours full charge.
Wii U pro controller: lasts 80 hours on single charge
It's 40-50 hours
Dam
Who's gonna play for 45 hours straight? and did the Wii U pro controller have HD rumble?
Dis doof Are you talking about the Switch Pro Controller having 40-50 battery life or the Wii U Pro Controller having 40-50?
Yes and no, answered your question
Fierce Deity Link that's exactly what this video feels like :/
Fierce Deity Link thank yoi
Then... don't buy all the accessories?
What a stupid comment. Jesus christ.
Im happy they're actually being honest with their thoughts, rather than riding hype for the sake of it.
The steep price of the controller is completely justified. A chord for the switch is 20 dollars. Gyro costs at least 20 dollars. I would argue that it is actually a bargain.
Brynn Yoder Gosh would I love to know where those twenty bucks cases from, because I highly doubt they cost that much (except maybe the gyro).
It's a bargain if you have what's almost and emphasis on almost 100 dollars
My left joycon started having drift issues so decided to get a replacement and this
Does anyone know how comfortable the grip is compared to the pro controller? i might not get the pro for a while
shigeru miyamoto I've seen u from somewhere else...
shigeru miyamoto It's the difference between Wii U Pro controllers and the GCN controller, more ergonomic, can't really describe it better without having it in hand sadly. Hope I helped.
yeah, gamexplain, HMK, reviewtechUSA, and that other guy with 7k subs lol
shigeru miyamoto, I would suggest trying it yourself at game stop or Best Buy. Everyone has differently shaped hands, so there's no real way to tell for everyone.
Grip is better than naked, Pro Controller is better than Grip.
I have my pro controller ordered and it's set to get here a few days after the switch itself. So I'll have a few days to get feel for the joy con alone and in their grip before I compare them to the pro controller. Though I will say, you two are the first two people I've heard prefer the joy con grip... So I'm interested to see which I end up preferring.
my only complain is that it lacks a headset jack
PigonGaming -insert iPhone 7 joke-
PigonGaming the switch has one
Quentin Kaalekahi I agree completely, however luckily in my case I got my own gaming chair and small gaming set up with a long headphone cord so I’m good
The price is high but the thing is beautiful. Cant wait to try it out
"If I keep touching it and playing with it then like it will grow on me." 11:55
Hey Guys Great Video but I was just wondering what will you do after the Switch comes out? I've thought about subscribing but just wondered this
Pro controller has the d-pad, joycon lacks it. Its kinda necessary.
Raven Strahd it doesnt lack a dpad its just separate
RinkuHeroOfTime It does make a difference for 2d games, you can't get precise diagnal movement with 4 separate buttons vs dpad
Robert Wallen You can with a joystick.
I loved the way you could separate your hands with the Nunchuk + Wiimote so depending on how the joycons feel I'm probably gonna play it that way.
when you are defending procontroller there is literally no logic, its just being super nintendo fanboy, not sure this is how you should approach this subject. I love my pro-controller but it is over-priced and is equal or even less valued than 3-4 year old xbox or ps4 controller.
I dont think its overpriced imo
I just got mine from delivery and it’s awesome! I do not regret buying it at all! I really recommend it :)
my GOD!!! listening to the bitching about a controller that people used less than 10 hours or most haven't even tried it.
after a few hundred hours i'm sure the discussion won't be the same. You think the R&D and testing was done with 10 min trial xD
I'll wait until summer to see how I like the joy-cons and if I'm still fine I'll probably ask for it for christmas
I'm so fed up with everybody claiming gyro is the way to go with splatoon. I don't use gyro at all and am Always in the top 2 players every single match so nope gyro isn't' the way to go with splatoon.
billybrenders it is for a lot of other people though
billybrenders that's where you're WRONG
Monolith Gaming funny that i am if i'm always in the top 2 players every match and probably also will kick your ass without using gyro
Luis Gavidia i know but just saying that it's dumb that it is THE way to play like everybody claims wich it isn't
Monolith Gaming It's hi preface there is no right or wrong
I don't think its worth the price
the wiiu goes 80 hours on a single charge.
Hypervenom941 no it DOSNT IT LASTS ME 30 MIN YOU FOUL SALTY LIAR
Hypervenom941 I guess battery life had to be sacrificed for HD rumble and gyro controls but 40 hours isn't that bad
Hypervenom941 and the Switch controller lasts almost 2 full days, has gyro controls which is perfect 👌 for splatoon (best way to play) , NFC reader for amiibo, HD rumble, and the fact that it *comes with a USB C cable that charges the Pro controller and can charge the switch too*
Who is going to be playing for more than 50 hours straight though?
Are you sure it comes with a USB C charger?
I've got big old hands and while the joy cons are just fine, I'm glad I got a pro controller. is like a combination of the ps4 controller with is length and an Xbox controller with its lay out and grips. is a basic pick up and play controller with gyro controls. It's great. Not sure about the digital triggers though.
$100 in AU
fml.
Pixel_ 100$ dude that sucks
Best Buy is the only place that I could find them available for pre order. Every other retailer seems to have sold out of their launch stock, likely holding a few for in store purchases on launch day as well.. But I was able to grab one today from the Best Buy website.
68CaliberWarfare did the same moments ago
Honestly I want to give the Joycons a solid go for a bit, I'll eventually pick up a pro controller but as of now, see no reason.
Looking forward to getting the Switch.
best buy currently has the pro controller available for pre order still if anyone wants to get one
You are all talking about the pro controller and I'm like "Can I get a system preorder please!!" lol
I started out thinking the pro controller was essential, but lately I've been thinking getting a second pair of joy cons, for games like arms and mario kart 8, may make more sense.
i actually plan on getting both - additional joycons and pro.
I have played the switch and used the it... I must say that the pro controller is an essential!
Where I live dual shock 4 and Xbone controllers are still $60-$65 so $70 isnt bad for a controller with the HD rumble
joycons + grip pros are 1 you can play 4 player on games that support split joycon 2 you have two "wii mote and nunchuck" and can play 2 player motion games 3 any game that supports 2 player can be played. cons 1 it's $80 + 30 if you want the grip 2 if you dont by anything else you can only charge one set at a time 3 battery life is only 20 hours
pro controllers pros are 1 it's only $70 no additional accessories needed 2 the dpad is not split though I think that will all come down to personal preference 3 longer battery life at 40 hours
cons 1 you can't play 4 player with 1 set of joycons and a pro controller only three 2 you can't play 2 player motion controlled games that use both joycons like a wii mote and nunchuck 3 you and your friend will fight over who gets to use it
People are saying that the dpad is broken but i just bought the controller this week and it works peefectly fine.
I think they fixed it (i have the classic model)
11:57 "Maybe if I touch it, play with it more maybe it will grow on me" ... could have phrased that better.
I so can't wait for the Nintendo switch just 9 more days left :D also I might just see which controller I like more but I'll definitely be using the joycons more because they come with the console no need to spend $70 :D
Im going to see how the joycons work for me at first..but I will be getting the pro controller. Just need to give the joycons a try!
What are the chances of PC compatibility? Would make the decision easier....
The 40 hours without a charge, that's amazing I try it out
The retail price of a Dualshock 4 at my local GameStop is 65$. They are cheaper on Amazon but I saw that in my local store and thought that was crazy
Both the NES
& SNES had great controllers that were very comfortable in your hands.
It's probably more comfortable for long play sessions. I'll get it when splatoon 2 releases
I would only get a pro controller because of the way I hold my controller. I put up 4 fingers on the triggers (one for each top button) and for the Joycons grip it seems I wouldn't be able to do that.
Good vid SwitchForce. Pro-Con all the way but I will be checking out the Joy-Cons in all the different ways of playing the Switch.
I think the joycon grip is plenty comfortable for me, maybe one day if I hold a pro controller and love it I might get it, but right now I don't feel like dropping $70 on something to later find out that I didn't even really need it.
should I buy a pro controller at launch or another pair of joycon?
I will buy one but im going to wait for the inevitable different colours. Dont liek the black one. Will try and get used to joycon grip instead
