    Great reaction, thanks!
And great song and version choice. This is the iconic and perfect version everyone wants to see.
This is what we call a Su-metal's solo song. She has four on their two first albums: "Akatsuki", "Rondo of Nightmare", "No Rain , No Rainbow" and "Amore".
Yui and Moa were underneath the stage taking a well deserved break (or doing their homework since they were still 14 at the time and had to go to school, lol).
They also have four songs as a duo (without Su) known as Black BABYMETAL: "Onedari Daisakusen", "Yon no uta" (Song of 4), "GJ!" and "Sis. Anger".
Yes, I also think that part with the effects on Su's voice is in a backing track since it sounds exactly the same in other shows.
But I'm sure she's capable of doing this live and more... I learned my lesson a while ago. 😅
The instrumental intro song is called "Mischiefs of the Metal Gods". And it's great because every Kami Band member has their turn to shine... just to summon Su-metal who finally emerges from the depths ... well, at least from under the stage. 😁
"Rondo of Nightmare" is probably their darkest song lyrically. It's about Su being trapped into an endless nightmare, without any chance to escape, where she's chased by a dark entity as she tries to run away and hide. Finally she asks the entity to reveal its real nature before giving up.
This was just the second time they performed it live (the first one was just the previous night at the same venue) and Su-metal, being 16 at the time, was standing by herself on a relatively small and elevated platform, without any safety and probably not being able so see a thing due to the spotlight. This is so freaking metal!
Here are some Black BABYMETAL and another of Su's amazing solo songs:
"Onedari Daisakusen" (Live at Budokan Black Night): ruclips.net/video/ju63cJtodS0/видео.html
"Akatsuki" (Live at Budokan Black Night): ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html

Nice reaction. This is one of four Su-metal solos, two on each of the first two albums. Yui and Moa would get a break while Su performed those.
There are also 4 songs without Su performed by Yui and Moa as a duo known as Black BABYMETAL.
The Kami Band intro here is called 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods'. In order of solos - Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums).
There can't be many 16 year old girls who could follow that intro and then just take over the whole stage and arena the way Su did.
Su can get the effect on that quiet part by pressing the mic to her nose and singing across it (I saw a singer explaining the technique in a reaction a long time ago), so she may well have been singing it live, it may have been on track. Personally I like to think she sang this one live and in some later performances it was on track but OTFGK.🦊🙊
This is one of their darkest songs lyrically (pity you turned the subtitles on late and missed that, but Su is so good at expressing the emotion and meaning so it wasn't the worst thing you could have done). I understand rondo is a musical term denoting a repeated theme - something like that anyway. I believe they borrowed the term for the title of this song as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness by something she can't see. Eventually she hides, but it is still coming closer. Knowing there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least reveal itself to her.
This was only the second time Su had performed this song live - the first time was the night before.
This was early March 2014. They played two nights at the Budokan in Tokyo (think the equivalent of Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden - it is the place all Japanese and many foreign artists aspire to play), Red Night and Black Night, becoming the youngest average age female band ever to headline there (Su was 16 and a couple of months, Yui and Moa still only 14). They had just released their first album - they sold out both nights. 🤘🦊🤘

Hi Grington, in relation to the radio effect segment where Abs questions whether that Su was singing live or if she was miming to track, while both are possible, I feel she Su is singing 'over' track. Let me explain my thoughts.
First, the video you refer to about a singer explaining the vocal technique that Su used would most likely have been by Elizabeth Zharoff from The Charismatic Voice Channel on RUclips. Elizabeth is a Grammy award winning artist and a world-acclaimed opera singer. Elizabeth reacted to and analysed Babymetal's Rondo of nightmare and went over that section a couple of times to hear what was going on and she landed on it being a vocal technique very similar to what you described. At the time, Elizabeth felt it was a live vocal technique. I will paste a direct lift from Elizabeth's bio from The Charismatic Voice's channel directly below to help you to evaluate her capabilities and her credibility within the wider music industry:
"Our operatic founder and vocal guru, Elizabeth Zharoff, has multiple degrees in music and voice from the Curtis Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, and Berklee College of Music. She's also a voice science nerd. Mrs. Zharoff has performed in 18 languages, throughout major venues in Europe, Asia, and North America. She has a uniquely modern career which bridges the gap between voice and technology, and aims to demystify singing for all."
Fast forward a goodly while and I watched a live stream (I think from Dicodec, or maybe Gaigin Guys [same thing really]) where this song was put through a software analysis program that separated all the instrumentals, the track and Su's vocals and this showed that there is a radio effect on the vocal line in question on the backing track, but it also showed that Su was singing along into a hot mic. This would suggest a couple of possible scenarios: A). Su is miming - I think we can eliminate that one because her voice was recorded singing in that section as shown in the analysis software. B). Su was singing the section live with a filter on her voice without backing track - Again the software analysis showed that there was track in that section, so we know it was there. However, did Su sing as well, and C). That Su sang over pre-recorded track in that section. This is where those that evaluated the software analysis landed, and I am pretty comfortable with that. This makes sense, again, let me include my thoughts on why. (A side note here is that Elizabeth, or her production team, has removed any reference to the radio effect segment from Rondo of Nightmare from her published reaction video to the song, interesting).
We already know that Su often has some of her own vocals pre-recorded into Babymetal backtracks, as does Moa and Momo, and Yui before her. This is often done to harmonise with their own live vocals, or to provide support if they start to run short of breath, or simply to make their vocals sound thicker, after all, these girls are pretty active on stage. Grington, I am sure you are familiar with some reactors doing the 'gotcha' moments where they 'catch' Babymetal 'miming'. Most of these gotchas are a result of the girls sometimes singing over backtracks of their own vocals, in spaces where they might be short of breath due to their routines, or, as Abs suggested, sucking in some air to ready themselves for the next vocal or dance stanza.

This was one of the Su solo songs. They used to do that in the Yui era when the concerts were longer. Yui and Moa used to have their songs without Su as well, and they were referred to as Black Babymetal. Apart from giving a little variety to the albums (the first two), this also allowed all three to take a break during the longer concerts. Also, the choreography used to be more energetic back then (they were younger).
The part you wondered whether Su was singing is most probably backtracked. They left that part sounding different for effect. The live version of this song sounds much better than the studio version (although that is very good too).
The shaking of the camera was done on purpose for effect. Every member of the Babymetal group, including the camerapersons, are so professional.
You should check out some Black Babymetal. I would recommend Onedari Daisakusen or Sis Anger (for the latter, unfortunately, you probably will only find compilation videos, but they're good anyway).

Great reaction! I'm sure others have mentioned that this was 1 of 4 Su-metal solos, just as Yui & Moa had "Black Babymetal" Duets without Su. Rondo of Nightmare is probably one of my absolute favorites, and Su-metal delivers a hauntingly beautiful performance of this dark and ominous song. The visuals of this performance are incredible as well. WIth the Kami Band almost appears as the "Rond of Nightmare" that Su is trapped in, as they deliver that dirty, heavy, and dark music.
I quite like the camera shake as well. It's obviously an added effect to increase intensity, but it feels so real. I just came back from their DC show yesterday, and while this song hasn't been performed in years, during their breakdowns of other songs, it truly felt like my "vision" was shaking as the entire audience was jumping and headbanging, lol.

Yeah well spotted - the megaphone effect broken doll section is playback (as is the piano), probably as the switchover to the main vocals would have been too tight due to the way the song is composed (don't want the effect kicking in/out in either section and not possible for SU-METAL to control that from up there)
Before we lost YUIMETAL, during a concert we used to get SU-METAL solo songs and "Black BABYMETAL" songs - which were MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL songs alone on stage without SU-METAL
We have lost this aspect of the live performances.. and I'm hoping now we have MOMOMETAL in the band we can bring back this style of stage show in the future. We used to get a bit longer setlists due to it as Queen Su and MoiMoi (Yui+Moa) could take breaks while the other was performing

Love your reactions always, thank you! About whether Su-Metal was singing the stylized stanza near the end, I asked the same a long time ago in a forum and someone said she did - that she had the mic pressed up to her nose to create the effect and had learned to sing in a specific style just for that. I have no way of knowing what/how true it is, but someone posted cool info about it so I am sharing that bit; partially in hopes that the more knowledgeable viewers might expand on it? I am genuinely curious about the specifics there myself.

    • @shma1israel
      @shma1israel 2 месяца назад +1

You can emulate the 'old radio' filtered sound by pressing the mic to your nose, kinda, but it won't sound this perfect live. Another proof is that the filtered sound is still fading out while Su's live voice comes back in, so they overlap. And finally, everyone who has the Blu-ray disc of this set of shows can actually compare this performance (from the Black Night, day two) to the performance of the same song from the previous night (Red Night), and there she holds the mic in a different way (in front of her mouth, if I remember correctly), yet the filtered passage sounds exactly the same. Q.e.d. 😉
And of course there's no problem with using tracks for short lines that are too difficult to reproduce live. Babymetal have always done that with the 'kitsune, kitsune' breakdown vocal line (the one that's using the traditional 'sakura, sakura' melody) for example, but during that Su doesn't lip sync and does some acting with the fox mask, instead.

Thanks for your reaction Abi, glad you’ve witnessed your first Su’s solo, I’m gonna tell you a little detail about the song “Akatsuki”(another Su’s solo) for when the day comes and you pick it up to react to it, there are 3 iconic versions of “Akatsuki”
    - 2013 (Unfinished version from Legend 1997) it’s a piano version just like the “one take” version of monochrome you watched, the difference is the “one take of monochrome” was on a studio with only them alone and the “unfinished version of Akatsuki” was on a live performance with the kami band.
    - 2014 version (from Budokan Black Night 2014)it’s the full instrumental version of he song and the Kami band has a shinning moment, it also has the best audio quality of the instrumentals in my opinion.
    - 2021 version (from Budokan 2021 yes the same venue 7 years later!) it’s also the full instrumental version but the instrumental quality doesn’t shine like the 2014 version, the scenario effects are bit better than 2014 version but the Kami band doesn’t have a moment to shine in this version.
I leave you those details for you to decide which version of the song you want to pick when you get to react to that song, I (and surely your other followers) would love to see you watching all of the 3 different version like you did with monochrome and the piano version, if I had to vote my vote would go for you to watch them in chronological order so you can notice the difference. And of course you don’t have to make the 3 reactions in a row like how was about to happen with Headbanger, we will love to watch to reaction no matter when you decide to make them!
One last thing I want o tell you I wouldn’t recommend you to react to any of the Yui and Moa duets (without Su) the reason is just because those songs sang by them they apply very childish voices for those songs, if you want to add them to your list I would say to put them to the very end, but If you want to watch them soon at least I let you know that detail so you can be prepared to what to expect from those songs, the one I less like is “GJ”, the other 3 songs are funny and cute. Wish you a great weekend!

Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues.
A number of famous rock music acts have played at Budokan. The Beatles were the first rock group to play there in a series of concerts held between June 30 and July 2, 1966. ABBA ended their last tour there. Their final show on March 27, 1980, was the last live concert ABBA performed together. Numerous acts have recorded live albums at Budokan, including Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Kiss, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Journey and Deep Purple.

    •Composition: Yuyoyuppe.

    Lyrics Overview:-
"Rondo Of Nightmare (悪夢の輪舞曲; Akumu No Rondo)"
    [Romaji:]
    Kaketa tsuki ga terashi dashita
    kageri no naka habikoru kyooki
    Warai-goe hibiki watari

    [English:]
The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade
    The laughter resounds around
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam
    I can’t escape from it
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but run
    through the darkness
In the woods, in the fountain
I hide myself holding my breath
but it’s still coming closer to me
A stagnant voice. An endless night
    Ah…
If I can no longer get out of here
won’t you show me your figure?
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind
A nightmare rondo is being repeated
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight
I can do nothing but fall
    into the darkness
This song Su-Metal brings you to the dark side and tells you a story thru the journey and it enticed you.

Kamiband : We're gonna blow your minds with our awesome solos!
Sumetal : Hold my matcha latte....
Love watching the drummer Hideki in this, when the camera pan to him in the beginning, he looks like he's just casually drumming and not responsible for the machine like pounding in the background with the double kicks. Most singers might get intimidated having to follow the spectacular performance by the Kamiband, but 16yr old Su just gets up there, and shows you why Babymetal was built around her. If you think it feels strange seeing only Su, wait till you get to Black Babymetal and see only Yui and Moa...onedari daisakusen is a must...Its a song about daughter using all the tricks in the book to get Dad to buy them things....Cuteness overload.🤘🦊🤘

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Kamis are amazing musicians. So, I sometimes go to see live performance by Kamis. I enjoyed a concert by BOH (Kami bassist) and Yuya (former Kami drummer) last month and a ticket to one by Isao (Kami guitarist) in December.
"Rondo of Nightmare" is the song that I am longing for the revival with Su-Metal's matured rich voice. (Of course I love this 2014 version) "Rondo" is a musical form with a recurring leading theme. I can't tell how many times I have viewed this video. It is literally a rondo of happy dream for me. Kamis' (=Gods') super solos were excellent enough as a main event in the show, but once the 16-year-old Queen (as of 2014) emerged from the underground, she colored everything differently with her penetrating voice then turned Kami Band's plays into a ritual to summon her.

Yep, that´s a Su solo, it was at the Budokan, Black Night, in 2014. Premiered the evening before. It was performed last time at the Black Fox Festival in 2017. Never again since then, which is a pity. Maybe some day we will see it being performed once again, that would be great.

When they were young the performance of the girls were, how can I put it, Harder (today you can compare how old dance moves are more on the softer side nowadays). So I believe Moa and Yui needed some time to rest and they used 4 Su's solo songs to give them some deserved rest. The same thing happened to Su when Moa and Yui would perform their songs and give her a break. When you react to Akatsuki you will really appreciate Su's vocal capabilities. And Onedari Daisakusen with Moa and Yui.

Su's personal nightmare, 1 of about 4 solos - give others a break during live, Black Babymetal have 4 duets. Shaking on Su closeups might just be the light effects, she doesn't seem to be shaking on the actually small platform when moving around. ( But I wouldn't be surprised if it was shaking even a little bit sometimes). Like to think she alters her voice at the music box refrain (but probably some effect used there). Su sings about her nightmare, a thing stalking her in the dark, she says just come out already and stop hiding ( like stop tormenting me and get it over with) or something like that.

However, there are also several song lyrics that SU doesn't sing but she sings with has voice recorder so that they become a backtrack for the song, such as, "How would you know the difference between the virtual world
      And the real world?
Maybe what you see with your eyes
Is all an illusion, I don't know whose voice it was but it sounded clear to my ears that SU did it & Help me please! Please! Save me please! Please!
Please, please, oh, please oh-majinai. it's like a soft, hoarse growl that SU recorded with has voice, but she didn't sing it live so it just became a backtrack vocal.

You are right, that is not Su- live on the quiet verse. What i don't know is whether it was live at the venue, but I suspect not. Around this time Su- explained in an interview that she had learned to do a nasal resonance mic technique. Pretty sure that is what was done in-studio. And obviously what she was showing here. But yeah, she pulls the mic away too soon in order to set up to come back in with that heavy metal waltz of a chorus. Su-metal's mic discipline is stellar but fails often when not actually singing. 😂

In fact on this song the band had several bets runing. The Band thought that it would be impossible that Su's tony voice would be able to get through this noise carpet. The, obviously never knew that this was an experiment of multiple european metal bands. And they found out that female voices build a layer above this white noise that transfered their meaning. It had nothing to do with noise but with frequency.
