whats sad is people are going to remember Irabu more for this scene than his entire career

No, there's something worse that he is remembered for. The REAL Steinbrenner called Irabu a "fat pussy toad" in the papers after Irabu made a lazy blunder in spring training. That middle word has to do with a substance that you squeeze out of pimples, not slang for ladyparts. Cruel, but unfortunately pretty funny. Here in NYC, that's one of the main things we will remember. Unfortunate. We also remember the hype- he was to be the Japanese Nolan Ryan, though in the end he was about a .500 pitcher (come to think of it, Ryan's winning percentage was a bit low too).

The funny thing about this is the night this episode aired, Irabu had one of the best games of his career.
Just looked it up. Irabu brought his ERA down to a season low 1.11 that night, the 4th of 10 straight quality starts. Dang. I forgot what a great first half he had. Had it not been for the 3 bad starts right after that stretch, he probably earns a trip to Denver for the All Star Game.
Frank's Yankees beefs are the best. Couldn't care less about George.
