wow, Grant County West Virginia has never gone democrat in over 100 years
Jimmy Carter, 1980.
Bill Clinton, 1996.
@Jalapao76 nope, look GRANT COUNTY it always goes red no matter what
@Jalapao76 it's the county that is dark red in 96 election
@@peled1 Oh!!! I thought you were talking about the state as a whole, my bad!
Grant County was founded in 1866, and has NEVER voted Democratic in a presidential election. Only time it wasn't won by a Republican was when Teddy Roosevelt ran a 3rd party campaign in 1912 and won the county. Furthermore, since at least 1880 (possibly before but I can't find county-level data), it has received been the most Republican county (by percentage of the vote) in WV in every election except 1912. Even in 1912 it was the least Democratic county in WV, with Wilson getting just 20.42% of the vote.
These songs sound like an awful weird al version of famous songs, but Weird al is super political for some reason
That one red county would not budge lol
Grant County
Grant County, as you saw in the video, was a major outlier in West Virginian politics. In much of the Deep South, the randomly deep red counties you see in elections from post-Reconstruction until the 1960s (early 21st century for WV) are due to Civil War loyalties. In the South's case, these counties were ones that had few slaves (due to poor farming conditions) and thus were less predisposed to support secession. While Democrats in the South would largely back the Confederacy, these unionist counties felt alienated and opted to strongly support the Republicans. After the Civil War, this unionist sentiment remained as voting GOP became an ancestral tradition. In the case of Grant County, WV, this county was founded by Union veterans and Republicans immediately following the Civil War. As such, they held a strong Republican bent that still stands today.
@@KingKraftedWow that’s cool
There were three of them. Ritchie county, Grant county, and Morgan county all were red throughout the video. Those along with Tyler county were the four red ones in 1964.
West Virginia most underrated country states out there I love love it here
Awesome channel. Please do one for every state. Its interesting how West Virginia wouod always vote to the left of the nation until the year 2000. Then it went right off a cliff
After 7:52 vote shift dramatic for Democrats
These songs are ridiculous 😂
I think 1972 song for Richard Nixon is the best in terms of music.Greetings from Malaysia
It feels so good to know that people actually care about WV, so it is refreshing to see this
What
It has the most interesting electoral geography in the US for me
@@Ballot_Beat Facts though, we went from being a mostly democratic state to having every single county be a republican
Given time, I'm hopeful you'll make a video like this for every state.
you can be sure I'll do it, it just takes a while because in addition to the delay in producing the videos, I have to go to school
Oh primer video de este nuevo canal, amigo te deseo mucha suerte con tu nuevo canal
Love West Virginia from Mn!
I always felt that Hillary had a good idea. Working in the coal mines is a death sentence. Why don't we take all the miners out of the mines, retrain them at government expense and put them in a higher paying job. Apparently suggesting they get out of the coal mines was the worst insult she could throw at them. I hope all of those guys are happy today
Who gonna mine coal then
@bighillraft Coal has been the least efficient fuel for like 100 years.
Why not start in 1865 or post reconstruction?
I don't think most people are interested in results so old from the 19th century
Yes we are

O Condado de Grant na Virgínia ocidental é um dos poucos condados dos EUA que nunca ganhou os candidatos democratas lá
Si es cierto pero igual no es un condado necesario para ganar el estado
Is it really necessary to give every single election 45 seconds?
I think so
@@Ballot_Beat ok. I mean it’s your decision in the end but I honestly think half that time would make way more sense
Bom vídeo!
Lo curioso es que virginia Virginia Occidental de 1924 a 1996 voto como yo hubiera votado en esas elecciones
Ganhou mais 1 inscrito
Can you do Washington it’s my home state ( I am ironically a conservative)
The 1920s had absolute banger songs
John Davis era da Virgínia ocidental
Ele nasceu e cresceu na West Virginia
Al no ganar su propio estado ahi te das cuenta lo impopular que era
Davis didn't win WV yikes
Now do one for every state
I'm doing one of Indiana
Good idea! I'm down for this.
@@Ballot_BeatAll I ask is replace the comma in the percentages with a decimal. In the long run it doesn't matter, but it's my ocd in overdrive that's messing with me. Thanks for doing this. Looking forward to Indiana.
@@Ballot_Beat do one for DC

No he was definitely a Democrat unless you were thinking of Theodore Roosevelt who was a republican
Bro graduated from Hamburger Helper University

I'll do, but the next is Indiana
@@Ballot_Beat good enough for me lol, very good stuff
West Virginians wised up starting in 2000
West Virginia used to care about labor until then
George W. Bush sucked.
