    This is the DATEx2.
    The DATEx2 device allows you to safely connect more than one eBike battery to your bike at the same time! Safely use up to three batteries in parallel with the DateX to boost your range, power, and lifecycles. Better range. Prolong and protect your eBike battery.
    With the DATEx2 device, you can combine any battery, for example, 52V with 48V or even 36V, regardless of their chemistry, voltage, state of charge, or capacity as long as the controller supports the voltage and the hard-limits are not exceeded.

    I purchased affordable hoverboard batteries equipped with built-in Battery Management Systems (BMS) that match the voltage of the original battery, almost a fraction of the stock battery's cost. When the main battery's charge depletes, I switch off the main battery and connect my secondary battery. This method effectively doubles the travel distance. I've been utilizing both batteries for over 1000 miles without any issues. Therefore, I don't understand the need to consider a battery with a different voltage. Additionally, using a blender doesn't seem like a practical option, as it would be challenging to monitor both batteries while pedaling.

    Great video! My question is, if I have 3 batteries each have 20A output, will I get 60A output? Because most say it will lean on one battery until they are all equal, then they run together. I understand that the AH's are combined, but I am also in need of the total Amp continuous out and multiplied. Thanks for the help.

    • @RandyRides
      @RandyRides  Год назад +1

      I would go with the 90A to be safe

    • @ytnax
      @ytnax Год назад

      @Randy Rides Yeah I was thinking that. But, my question still is will this combine all 60 amps out. You see, if I build one big battery 52v, 14s, 6p, then I get all the continuous output amps. But with 3 x 52v, 14s, 2p each pack has 20 amps continuous out. See what I mean. I just want to make sure I still get my 60 amps out continuous.

    • @ericklein5097
      @ericklein5097 10 месяцев назад

      @@ytnaxmy guess with how the device works is NO you will not get the paralleled amperage output of both batteries while one is higher. To me it sounds like this is using diodes in a way to prevent the lower one from being charged by the higher battery. So I can’t see how the lower battery would be providing any output current if there is something isolating the lower voltage battery
      I don’t really understand the purpose of this device. How many people are deciding halfway through a charge they want to add a full battery? Why not just charge up your 50% battery and parallel them at 100% like any normal person would?
      Most batteries can be charged at 0.5C no problem ie 2 hours or so. If you’re at 50% then you should have no problem charging to 100% in under 2 hours (probably 1.5 hours since CC CV dictates the last 10% or 20% of charging slows down)
      If you’re in a rush use a power resistor or series some automotive bulbs to discharge your full battery while charging your 50% battery. Your discharger probably won’t be as powerful as your charger but you could still likely equalize them within an hour easily if there’s a time crunch.
      If you’re paralleling batteries you really shouldn’t be randomly pulling them apart and using them as a single battery while one sits. Ideally you’d like to keep their charge cycles identical so that degradation is the same. Paralleling batteries with different cells is also not a good practice unless they happen to be identical specs like LG MJ1 and Sanyo NCR18650GA or LG MH1 paired with another 3200mAh 10A cell like the Panasonic 18650BD. You want IR and capacity to be the same so there is an equal draw from each pack and you want them to degrade at the same rate. Pairing a high IR pack with a low IR pack means the low IR pack will provide more of the current but the batteries are in parallel so they will balance each other out at the same voltage. In my mind I think that’s going to cause issues when you are on the throttle vs off the throttle. This difference in IR could also exist in the build quality. Identical cells in each pack but one uses pure nickel and the other uses nickel plated steel. The pack made with pure nickel strips is going to have significantly lower IR, the same would happen if one had a series connection for every cell in parallel but the other pack had 1 series connection for every 2 cells in parallel. One pack using multiple 10AWG wires soldered to a beefed up main positive and negative is going to have much lower IR than a pack that just has 1 12AWG wire soldered to the main pos and neg without any additional beefing up of the nickel on those terminals.
      There’s so many variables that could cause problems down the road. Paralleling batteries is something that shouldn’t be done unless you do it from day 1 and use two identical batteries.
      These seat of your pants style mods are likely the reason why so many e-bike batteries end up in the second life storage market. These mods cause uneven wear on batteries and eventually a couple groups go wildly out of balance and the user has no clue why their battery now dies after 3 miles without even checking the voltages of each group.
      In a way this device encourages a bad practice instead of helping people understand why you should parallel batteries that are new and identical if you want to get a full life out of them.

When charging with the port, must you use a specific charger being one battery is 48v 10AH and the other is a 52v 14AH battery? Little confused because I thought you need to use the specific charger for the specific battery voltage and AH? Hopefully you understand my question. Thanks!

    • @RandyRides
      @RandyRides  2 года назад +5

      Response from Gareth:
      Inside the battery is a BMS, battery management system.
      You can charge a 48v battery with a 52v charger and when that battery is full it will simply stop taking a charge.
      So when you charge two batteries, 48v and 52v then when the 48v reaches 54.5v it will stop charging but the 52v will continue charging until its full at 58v.
      Ah is full tank size. 14Ah for example is 5 gallon fuel tank. 35 Ah is 15 gallon fuel tank.

    Seems like a hassle and more complications to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe this will give you any more power (torque) or top speed. Wouldn't it be simpler if you just carried the 2nd battery with you and swap batteries when the first one died?

      Not if you want to add a bigger battery than the style that comes on your bike. It’s also more efficient in the way that it works. You can pretty much have any sized battery you want with this setup. Of course it’s “easier” to just swap batteries, but this has a different purpose, especially if you want to add more than 2. Plus people like options. You can do it the way you want, but someone else might be interested in this way. I wouldn’t make the video if it was just a waste of money.

      @@RandyRides Your point is understood but in my case the main reason I would like to be able to have an extra battery would be to get me back to my point of origin if I went so far as to deplete one battery completely. Even though these eBikes can be operated as typical manual bicycles, very often the geometry and additional weight of an eBike make pedaling more difficult than a regular bike. Three batteries to me would serve no purpose. A typical eBike battery weighs in the range of 10 lbs and to have 30 lbs of batteries isn't something I'd like to carry around with me.

      @@ozzie444 Some people use their bikes for Uber Eats and DoorDash and make more money when they don’t have to charge as much. Everyone’s purpose with an ebike is different. I would rather carry enough juice with me then to get stranded. It’s happened to me, and you’re right, it sucked to pedal for 4-5 miles. When I did the PAS2 test on the Rideal, that’s what happened to me. Once I hit about 50 miles, I had to pedal manually, just because at the end of my ride I went to PAS5 to get home faster. Definitely a mistake I won’t make again. 😉

      It gives you a LOT more power, RANGE and a bit more speed
      The voltage SAG is cut in half!
      And no need to swap batteries

      @@DATEx2 I'm a believer now. I've got a 52Vx17.5Ah battery for my Himiway Cruiser. I recently just got another 52Vx20Ah rectangular battery that I'm going to mount on my rear rack. Right now I'm waiting on delivery of the battery blender and the adapter cables to go from the Himiway type connections to the battery blender and new battery's XT60 connections. Hopefully this will cure me of my "range anxiety".....lol.....🤣
