    the battery blender actually switches between the batteries, it doesnt discharge both at the same time

  • @srdjanmax
    @srdjanmax Год назад +2

    If you are charging both batteries simultaneously with one charger, that means that one battery is charged through its discharge port. Maybe I'm mistaken but I believe that charging through the discharge port bypasses the BMS, which could lead to overcharging and other issuess. The battery that is charged via the charging port will be protected. But the second battery won't.

    • @JB360_NYC
      @JB360_NYC  Год назад +3

      Not necessarily because once your packs are paralleled they act as one system. The packs itself won't allow overcharging anyways due to the limitations both BMSs have in place.

      Too much complicated for saving 30 bucks on blender. In this set up can't be charged batteries over discharge port. BMS will not control charging. I run 3 batteries w/2 blenders w/no any problems.

      Charging via discharging port does not neccesarily cause problems. It depends on the BMS. As for the jbd BMS's (which I'd recomend anyway due to the BT connection that allows configuration and Controll over the Battery) I don't even used the charging port. Interestingly I can turn off charging via software while leaving discharging on and it would not charge although the charger is connected to the discharge port.

    • @andyfumo8931
      @andyfumo8931 7 месяцев назад

      @@kiiingrook8592you're missing out on electronic theory. Say 1battery is 40amp with BMS max discharge/peak of 80 and another that's 35 amp and 75peak. Combining in parallel you are assuming that functions same as within the pack or in combination with modules, wrong. The BMS for each limits are for each individual battery respectively so combining in parallel your now 75amp continuous and 150 peak is far beyond the capabilities of the BMS to control. Now the same controller will ask for the same amps of your original battery, say the 40amps so you're just increasing range and time but when you think your amp increase from both batteries in parallel means you can upgrade your controller for 150peak...You've made a 🔥🚒. Please do not do this 🙏,

      You are correct! The battery blender will suffice if you're linking 52V to 52V or 48V without worrying about levels but once you get to the higher voltages like 72V, we've found the higher rated battery blenders almost hinder some of the torque and acceleration. Parallel connections provide a more direct connection resulting in better battery performance while the two batteries are linked.

      What actually happens is the blender reads the voltage from the batteries and switches to the highest voltage battery. As you use this battery the voltage will sag slightly and the blender will switch to the next highest voltage battery and the first battery will recover as the blender switches between the next two batteries and then switches back to the first battery, or whichever had recovered the quickest. This means that a weaker pack will take less of a beating, but you're still drawing the full amperage from one battery until it's voltage sags and the device switches to another battery and pounds on it until the voltage sags. It doesn't absorb abuse like a single larger pack will, because the abuse is spread over more cells. It just allows the smaller batteries to recover briefly in between.

      One advantage would be that you don't have to match voltages like here so it's mainly just plug and play with no volt meter required. Just note the blender does hinder the top speed a bit especially with 72V batteries. Sal and I tested parallel connection vs a 90a blender and difference was about 7 mph. If you're planning to do a 3 parallel connection, you would just need a custom harness with 3 discharge cables instead of two and just follow the same steps with all 3 batteries.

    👍 Nice... Do you know how people are getting 60 mph off 60v system while others only get 50s on 72v ? I assume its controller but is it matter of preserving lifespan of batteries? You would think people would want highest amp possible? Thanks, and love your content!!

      @@kevinduprey9326 thanks! So yes like you mentioned, it's mainly the controller and the type of BMS the battery is suited with. On the flip side, 72v batteries will always be better on the range side than 60v, since they take longer to discharge from their starting voltage.

      @@JB360_NYC . NICE, obtained some 80v green works batteries and will harvest the good ones. I was thinking about getting solder less kit because I'm not to good at it. Unfortunately I know from making vape devices that every added connection causes voltage drop. Vaping with hybrid mechanical mod with direct battery contact is noticeably stronger than devices with added connections. I can only imagine the difference in EV's using hundreds of cells.

    I put a 2000 watt kit on my x class with a second battery and y style connection to run both batteries together, both 48v.Everything runs good 38mph but the batteries drain super quick and don't seem to fully charge and experience brief sag or power delay when running, very annoying and I have no idea how to deal with it. Could be crappy y battery connectorr?

    • @JB360_NYC
      @JB360_NYC  Год назад

      I would just double check the voltage levels on both to make sure they match. If the voltages don't match then I would try to parallel them again. 2000w is pretty demanding as well especially for a 48v setup which could be the reason also for the battery drain. What kind of controller are you running?

  • @johnr2866
    @johnr2866 Год назад

    Something does not seem correct you cannot solely rely on the voltage reading from a batteries charge port it it can be possible that the charge and discharge ports are giving different readings (if in the event of a faulty BMS, the state of charge cannot be accurately measured by just checking the charge port i think it would be safer to check each cell group of each battery and technically try to balance each battery before putting them together in parallel

  • @jbar3337
    @jbar3337 Год назад

    What about when it's time to recharge do you have to do this process where the battery have to have same voltage before you connect them Again?
    Do you charge the batteries independently?
    If not is it only charging via One battery charge port and not messing up balance charge on the second battery?

    • @JB360_NYC
      @JB360_NYC  Год назад

      Once the batteries are linked and paralleled you don't need to repeat the process as you can now charge from either battery port which will charge both batteries at the same time. The awesome thing is too is if you have another extra charger, you can insert the extra charger into the second battery port and essentially speed up your charge time by half.

      it depends!!!
      I use a y splitter cable also on my charger... so I charge and discharge in parallel and in all cases the voltages stay equal BUT
      I had to add a diode in my upp pack cause my genuine pack also had one (no voltage measured on charge port)
      now both have an inline diode on charge port (roughly same voltage drop)... on charge and use both are paralleled and voltages match

    • @dg9bfc

      side note.. in the minus rail cable of the charge port a 5 Amp diode added
      yes it plays a role where you add it (if you leave the packs connected on discharge port)
